45 killed in Israeli attack on Rafah tent camp, sparking international outrage

The tent camp in Gaza city was hit by an Israeli bombing, resulting in a large fire that resulted in the deaths of 45 people. This made leaders from around the world angry and they are asking for a World Court decision to stop Israel’s attack.

Families in Palestine are going to the hospital to get their dead ready for burial after a strike set their tents on fire. This has been happening for eight months since the war started.

“Bassam, who lives in Rafah, said on a chat app that Israel is burning down Rafah and no one is trying to stop it. ”

Israeli tanks kept shooting at the eastern and central parts of the city in southern Gaza on Monday. Eight people were killed, according to local health officials.

Israel’s military said that they carried out an air attack on Sunday and they were confident that they hit the leader of the militant group Hamas in the West Bank, as well as another official responsible for attacking Israelis.

On Sunday, it was reported that eight rockets were stopped from hitting their target after being launched from the Rafah area. A minister said that we still need to keep fighting against Hamas.

Israel’s main military lawyer said the air strike was very serious and they are looking into it.

“The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) feels sorry for any innocent people who were hurt during the war,” stated Major-General Yifat Tomer Yerushalmi at a conference on Monday.

The attack happened in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood where many people were staying safe because Israeli soldiers started a ground attack in the east of Rafah over two weeks ago.

Health officials in Gaza, which is run by Hamas, said that more than half of the people who died were women, children, and old people. They also said that more people might die because they are critically ill with severe burns from the fire.

Israel keeps attacking Rafah even though the top UN court told them to stop. They say the court’s ruling allows them to still use military force there.

French President Emmanuel Macron said he was very angry about Israel’s recent attacks. Stop these operations. “There are no safe places in Rafah for Palestinian people,” he said on X.

Germany’s foreign minister Annalena Baerbock and the EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that the decision of the International Court of Justice must be followed and honored. “International rules for helping people in need apply to everyone, including Israel’s actions during the war,” Baerbock said.

No place that is safe.

During the day, the camp looked like a mess with burnt tents and twisted metal.

Abed Mohammed Al-Attar said Israel lied about keeping people safe in Rafah’s western areas while sitting next to his relatives’ bodies. His brother, his brother’s wife, and many other family members died in the fire.

The army tells lies. Gaza is not safe. No one is safe, not even kids, old people, or women. “He’s with his wife, they were murdered,” he said.

“Why did this happen to them. Their kids have no parents now. ”

Rafah hospitals and the Red Cross hospital were full, so some injured people were taken to hospitals in Khan Younis for help.

The organization that helps Palestinian refugees at the United Nations said the situation was really terrible. Gaza is a very difficult place to live. Pictures from last night show once again that this is true,” UNRWA wrote on X.

Israel has killed more than 36,000 Palestinians in their attack, according to Gaza’s health ministry. Israel started the operation because militants from Hamas attacked some towns in southern Israel on Oct 7. About 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 were taken hostage, according to Israel.

Israel wants to find and remove Hamas fighters hiding in Rafah and save people who are being kept as hostages in the area.

But it is criticized worldwide for not protecting innocent people.

“Ireland’s Foreign Minister Micheal Martin said it was very cruel to see the lack of food and refusal to allow enough help, on top of the hunger and starvation. ”

Egypt criticized the Israeli military for purposely bombing the shelters of displaced people. They said it breaks international law.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar both criticized the Israeli attack. Qatar also said that the attack might make it harder to reach a ceasefire and exchange hostages.

Israeli tanks have been moving close to the edge of Rafah, near the crossing from Gaza to Egypt, since May 6. They have also gone into some of the eastern parts of Rafah.
