US ships draw closer to Israel after Hamas attack

The US is moving a big ship, other smaller ships, and planes to a place called the eastern Mediterranean. They are also giving Israel more stuff like tools and bullets.

This means that after Hamas attacked southern Israel, President Biden said it was a very bad and shocking attack that had never happened before.

A representative from US National Security said that some Americans were killed.

Israel says that over 700 people have lost their lives, and around 100 individuals have been taken against their will.

In Gaza, over 400 people were killed because of Israeli air strikes, say Palestinian officials.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier, a type of ship that carries airplanes, along with a missile cruiser and four missile destroyers, are going towards that area. He said they would send fighter planes too.

The White House said it would send more help to Israel’s military soon. They want to make sure that Israel’s enemies cannot take advantage of the situation.

The US is sending a lot of troops because they are worried that the fight between Israel and Hamas could spread to other nearby areas.

Specifically, the United States is very interested in stopping Lebanon’s influential Hezbollah group from getting involved in the conflict. Iran supports and provides money and weapons to Hamas.

The President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, has said he supports the attack by Hamas. He believes that Israel should be punished for putting the region in danger.

Hamas claimed that Iran provided them with support to carry out their attack. Their attack included using rockets, drones, and militants on paragliders. They managed to break through Israeli border fortifications around the Gaza Strip with the help of hundreds of fighters.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said that there is no clear proof that Iran is directly involved, but they have been supporting the Gaza-based group for a long time.

Hamas relies on Iran’s support for its existence. We don’t have proof that Iran was responsible for this attack or involved in it yet. “But the help and assistance have been evident for many years,” he said during an interview on US television.

During a meeting at the United Nations Security Council, Iran said that they were not involved in the attack on Israel.
Many people are still unaccounted for. One of the people involved was a 23-year-old man named Hersh Golberg-Polin from America and Israel. He was at a music festival in the desert when a group of violent people attacked.

His mom and dad told the Jerusalem Post that they got two messages from him. One said “I love you” and the other said “I’m sorry. ”

There are now reports about other North Americans who are also missing, such as peace activist Vivian Silver.

A Canadian friend of a 75-year-old woman named Ms Silver said that she called her sister on Saturday morning. She told her sister that Palestinian militants were knocking on her door.

“He said there was a lot of noise and shouting, Vivian was fighting, and then the phone suddenly turned off. ”

Israel’s ambassador to the US, Michael Herzog, said to CBS News that he knows Americans were among the soldiers and civilians who were taken away in southern Israel, but he doesn’t know more information about it.

The United States gives a lot of money to Israel every year to help with their military. Israel is a very good friend of the United States. Since World War Two, Israel has received the most foreign aid from the United States.

The UN Security Council is going to have a meeting in New York soon to talk about the fighting happening in Israel and Gaza.
