US opposes demands for cease-fire between Israel and Hamas

The US has said no to the idea of stopping the fighting between Israel and Hamas, even though other countries want it. They believe it’s not the best choice at the moment.

National Security spokesperson John Kirby spoke on Monday and suggested that aid be delivered to Gaza by taking breaks from fighting.

Currently, there isn’t enough food, water, fuel, and medicines for the 2. 2 million people living in Gaza. This lack of supplies is putting them in a dangerous situation.

But Israel has promised that there will not be an end to the fighting until Hamas is taken apart.

Calls for a ceasefire mean asking Israel to give up to Hamas, to give in to terrorism. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that this will not occur.

Mr Kirby spoke at a meeting with the press and said that he believes more trucks carrying aid will be able to go into Gaza through Egypt.

He said the US talked to the Israeli government about allowing more trucks to cross the border each day, up to about 100.

On Sunday, around 45 trucks went into Gaza through Egypt’s Rafah Crossing, Mr Kirby mentioned. However, he admitted that additional resources would be necessary.

“He told the press briefing that although we recognize that even with significant improvement, it still won’t be sufficient. ”

Philippe Lazzarini from UNRWA said that before the war, around 500 trucks would go into Gaza every day.

Israel has been attacking Gaza since October 7th in response to the Hamas attacks that caused the death of 1,400 people in Israel and the kidnapping of 229 people by Hamas.

Over 8,300 people in Gaza have died since Israel started bombing in response, says the health ministry run by Hamas.

Yinam Cohen, Israel’s consul general to the Midwest, said on Monday that one woman kept captive by Hamas, Natalie Raanan, had come back home to Chicago.
Last week, the UN General Assembly strongly urged Israel and Hamas to temporarily stop fighting for humanitarian reasons. Israel rejected this request with anger.

Mr Lazzarini said on Monday that the system to give aid will not work unless there is a strong desire from politicians to ensure that the supplies being given are helpful and meet the extremely high humanitarian needs.

Israel started the next part of their plan to defeat Hamas on Monday. They sent soldiers to go into Gaza after bombing it for three weeks.
