Israel floods Gaza’s hospital with bomb strikes

People in Gaza were happy on Saturday morning because Hamas shot many rockets at Israel and also attacked across the border, which killed people.

The next day, things looked completely different.

After the Israelis kept firing bombs, the people stayed inside their homes. There were more explosions on Sunday.

The noise was really scary. Buildings in the Gaza Strip were covered in thick, black smoke.

The military of Israel claims to have attacked more than 1,000 places in Gaza. These targets are places like military bases, houses where Hamas leaders live, and banks that are controlled by the militant group.

On Sunday morning, Israel carried out a notable attack on the Watan Tower in Gaza. This tower is an important place where internet providers are based.
Palestinian health officials are saying that over 400 people have died in Israeli air strikes on Gaza as a form of retaliation.

Many places don’t have electricity because Israel stopped giving Gaza power. Gaza’s supplier can only give 20% of the electricity they need.

On Sunday morning, while driving through the city center of Gaza, I noticed that roads were blocked by piles of debris. Stores were not open, except for a couple of bakeries where there were lines of people waiting.

The situation in Gaza has gotten even worse because of the increase in tension or conflict, which has made the already bad humanitarian conditions even more difficult.

The hospitals that don’t have enough resources are struggling to provide healthcare to a population of over two million people. They are desperately asking for people to donate blood.

Mahmoud Shalabi, who works for a charity called Medical Aid for Palestinians, called the main hospital in Gaza a “slaughterhouse”.

He said that a lot of people were lying on the ground in the emergency department. Shalabi said that there were a lot of dead bodies in the morgue and the medical staff were overwhelmed with the large number of injured people they were getting.
Later on Sunday, people in a certain area of Gaza City got text messages from the Israeli army telling them to go to a safe place before there would be attacks.

Over 20,000 people went to United Nations locations in the area, a UN spokesperson informed the BBC.

Hamas has been in charge of Gaza for the last 17 years. They are aware of what happens when they attack Israel, so they must have been prepared for the strong response from Israel.

The group supported by Iran has clearly stated that it is ready to fight against Israel. Hamas claims that it has been secretly bringing in weapons, even though there is a blockade by Israel and Egypt, and that it has been building up its own collection of weapons.

The group has promised to keep doing what they call “counter attacks”. After a break on Saturday night, it stated that it had shot 100 rockets at the southern Israeli town of Sderot.

People who live in Gaza have different feelings about this big conflict that has never happened before. Some people think that Hamas’ rocket attacks are a reason to be happy, but many are afraid that the fighting will go on for a very long time.
