Iran strikes Israel directly for the first time in military history

Iran attacked Israel’s military directly for the first time on Saturday. The Israeli army says Iran sent over 100 drones carrying bombs towards Israel. Several hours later, Iran said they had also fired even more powerful ballistic missiles.

Iran was saying they would attack Israel because Israel bombed Iran’s consulate in Syria earlier this week. Twelve people, including two important Iranian generals, were killed in the bombing.

The Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday morning that most of the missiles fired from Iran were stopped before they could reach Israel. Israel considers defending against missiles and drones very important. They have different systems to shoot down any incoming threats.

Israel and Iran have been heading toward a conflict during Israel’s six-month war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. The fighting started when Hamas and Islamic Jihad, two groups supported by Iran, launched a big attack across the border in October. 7 attacks happened in Israel. 1,200 people died and 250 people were taken by force.

The Israeli attack in Gaza has caused a lot of damage and killed more than 33,000 people, according to local health officials.

Israel says that they stopped most missiles that were sent from Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces said that Iran launched many missiles towards Israel, but most of them were stopped by Israel’s defense system and its allies before reaching Israel.

“A few hits were found, one at an IDF base in southern Israel, where only a little damage was done to the buildings,” the statement said.

The report said that many enemy airplanes and missiles from Iran were coming towards Israel, but they were stopped.

Many Israeli fighter jets are working to stop any threats coming from the sky towards Israel.
