Philippe Lazzarini, who runs UNRWA (the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency), recently held a meeting with journalists. He talked about what is happening in Gaza and how important it is to allow more help to reach the area.
“Right now, people in Gaza are losing their lives and important services are falling apart,” he informs the journalists in attendance. He says that there is not enough food and water left, and the streets are now filled with sewage.
“Gaza is facing a serious health crisis and there is a high chance of diseases spreading,” warns Lazzarini.
A few days ago, I said that if we don’t get fuel, we won’t be able to keep helping people in need. I am still warning you.
He explains that in the past few days, UNWRA has greatly reduced the amount of fuel it is using.
However, there was a price to pay for this. Our team had to make difficult choices that no humanitarian workers should have to make.
