Canada rejects permit for arms export to Israel

Canada has not given permission to sell weapons to Israel since January. “Ottawa has to make sure the weapons are used correctly before the freeze can end,” Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said on Wednesday.

Export permissions that were given before January are no longer valid. 8 things are still happening, she said in an email.

The minority Liberal government needs help from the left-leaning New Democrats to stay in power. The New Democrats want the government to take a stronger stand against Israel for the conflict in Gaza.

“Canada has very strict rules for allowing products to be shipped out of the country. ” Joly said there are no permits to send dangerous things to Israel.

From January onwards. The government has not allowed any new weapon exports to Israel. This will continue until we can make sure that they are following our rules for exports.

The law in Canada does not allow the export of weapons if they could be used to hurt or harm women, children, or break international rules about how wars should be fought.

Canada’s government agreed on Monday to stop selling weapons to Israel as a way to help with the conflict in Gaza.

Canada, which doesn’t supply a lot of weapons to Israel, stopped sending non-lethal military equipment in January because of the quickly changing situation there.

Earlier this month, some people who support Palestine and human rights filed a lawsuit to stop Ottawa from sending weapons and technology to Israel.

After the serious Hamas attacks on Oct 7, Canada has given permission for at least $28. 5 million worth of new things to be done, which is more than what was allowed in the previous year.
