Milestone birthdays often prompt moments of self-reflection, and Prince Harry seems to be in that contemplative space as he nears his 40th birthday this weekend.
The Duke of Sussex has released a statement to the BBC ahead of turning 40 on Sunday, September 15. In it, he has said he is “excited” about the milestone and that his children have given him a “fresh perspective.”
He also told the broadcaster that his mission to “continue showing up and doing good in the world” would continue whatever his age. “I was anxious about 30, I’m excited about 40,” the BBC quotes Prince Harry as saying.
Over the past decade, Prince Harry’s life has undergone a dramatic transformation. He transitioned from his military service and royal duties to stepping away from both roles to pursue a new direction.
Now 40, married with two children, Harry shared with the BBC that fatherhood has brought him a “new perspective” and is “one of life’s greatest joys.”
Though he seeks to keep Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, away from the media glare, Harry remains active in public life outside the monarchy.
The Invictus Games, which he launched in 2014 during his time as a royal, remains central to his efforts. Additionally, he and Meghan have established Archewell, their charitable organisation with a “simple” mission to “show up, do good.”
Since moving to the U.S., Prince Harry has been in the public eye, not only for his charitable efforts but also for his personal revelations.
His memoir Spare offered a candid look at his life, while a Netflix series explored his and Meghan Markle’s departure from royal duties.
Over the past few years, Harry has also been involved in multiple legal battles, including lawsuits against British tabloids and challenging the UK Home Office over his personal security arrangements.
