Jenni Hermoso to appeal verdict in Luis Rubiales kiss scandal

Jenni Hermoso, plans to challenge the court’s decision regarding former Spain football chief Luis Rubiales. Rubiales was fined after being found guilty of kissing Hermoso without her consent during the Women’s World Cup. Her lawyer announced the appeal on February 21, 2025
“It is her intention” to appeal, lawyer Angel Chavarria said.

Rubiales said after the verdict on Thursday that he will appeal.

In a case which rocked Spain, prosecutors had sought a prison term of two-and-a-half years for Rubiales – one year for sexual assault and 18 months for coercion for having allegedly put pressure on the player to downplay the incident afterwards.

A judge at Spain’s High Court found Rubiales guilty of sexual assault over the kiss and fined him 10,800 euros (£8,900), but spared him a prison sentence.

The case between Luis Rubiales and Jenni Hermoso began after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Sydney, Australia, on August 20, 2023. Following Spain’s historic 1-0 victory over England, Rubiales, who was then the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), grabbed Jenni Hermoso by the head and kissed her on the lips during the medal presentation ceremony. The moment was caught on camera and quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage.

At first, Hermoso seemed surprised by the kiss but did not immediately speak out against it. However, in a later statement, she made it clear that the kiss was not consensual, contradicting Rubiales’ claims that she had agreed to it.

He insisted that the kiss was mutual and a natural gesture of celebration. He refused to apologize initially, later offering what many viewed as an insincere apology. He also dismissed criticism, calling it a “witch hunt.”

The incident led to massive backlash, with many accusing Rubiales of inappropriate behavior and sexism in football. The controversy quickly became a global topic, with footballers, journalists, and public figures calling for his resignation.

In response to the incident, 81 Spanish players, including all members of the World Cup-winning squad, refused to play for the national team unless Rubiales was removed from his position.

The Spanish government condemned Rubiales’ actions and called for his resignation. FIFA provisionally suspended him, and later, the Spanish Football Federation dismissed him from his role.

Court finds Luis Rubiales guilty of sexual assault against Jenni Hermoso, fined $10,434

A Spanish court has found Luis Rubiales, the former president of Spain’s football federation, guilty of sexually assaulting footballer Jenni Hermoso by kissing her without consent after the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

On Thursday, June 20, 2025, the High Court of Spain ordered Rubiales to pay a fine of over €10,000 ($10,434) for the offense. However, he was cleared of an additional charge of coercion.

Rubiales has denied any wrongdoing and told Reuters that he plans to appeal the ruling, stating: “I will continue to fight.”

The case received widespread attention because it overshadowed Spain’s victory in the Women’s World Cup and fueled discussions about gender equality and respect for women in sports.

During the trial, Rubiales insisted that Hermoso had agreed to the kiss, but the player firmly denied this. Judge Jose Manuel Fernandez-Prieto ruled in Hermoso’s favor, stating that the kiss was without consent and amounted to sexual assault.

However, the judge also noted that the act did not involve violence or intimidation and was considered less severe, so Rubiales was spared a prison sentence. Instead, he must pay the fine.

The incident has sparked global conversations about respect and fairness in women’s football, with many calling for greater protection for female athletes.

“The pecuniary penalty must be chosen, which is less serious than the custodial sentence,” he said in his ruling.

A Spanish court has cleared Luis Rubiales of coercion charges related to his attempt to downplay the kiss he gave Jenni Hermoso during the 2023 Women’s World Cup awards ceremony in Sydney.

Three other former football officials—ex-women’s team coach Jorge Vilda, men’s team sports director Albert Luque, and marketing head Ruben Rivera—were also found not guilty of coercion.

As part of the ruling, Rubiales is now banned from going within 200 meters of Hermoso or contacting her in any way for one year.

Instead of a prison sentence, the court ordered him to pay a fine of €20 per day for 18 months, adding up to a total penalty of €10,800 ($11,270).

During the trial, Hermoso said the unsolicited kiss from her boss and the commotion that followed “tainted one of the happiest days of my life,” while her teammates testified it left her overwhelmed, crying and exhausted in the following hours and days.

Hermoso’s lawyer told Reuters it was up to his client to decide if “she wants to keep up the fight” after Rubiales avoided a prison sentence.

The Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE), which was a private prosecutor in the case, said the ruling was “a significant step forward in the defence of women’s rights and in the fight for a sport free of abuse and inequality.”

“When there is no consent there is assault and that is what the judge certifies in this sentence. The victim’s word is honoured, as the law stipulates, and should not be questioned,” Ana Redondo, Equality Minister in the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, wrote on X.

Luis Rubiales to appear in court over Hermoso kiss trial

Former president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales along with three other officials, are set to appear before a judge on Tuesday over allegations related to the controversial kiss involving player Jenni Hermoso at the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

Rubiales faces charges of sexual assault, while ex-women’s national team coach Jorge Vilda, former men’s national team sports director Albert Luque, and former marketing chief Ruben Rivera are accused of coercion.

Prosecutors allege that the three attempted to pressure Hermoso into publicly backing Rubiales’ claim that the kiss was consensual.

Hermoso, however, maintains that she did not consent, while Rubiales has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, insisting the act was mutual.

The fallout from the incident led to his resignation three weeks later amid mounting criticism, and FIFA subsequently handed him a three-year ban. Rubiales has defended himself against the accusations, calling the scandal a “witch hunt” driven by “false feminists.”

During her testimony on the first day of the trial last week, Jenni Hermoso expressed feeling “disrespected” by Luis Rubiales after Spain’s World Cup victory. She stated that the kiss had “tarnished one of the happiest days of my life.”

The incident sparked widespread outrage in Spain, reigniting discussions about sexism in sports and society at large.

Prosecutors, along with Hermoso and the Spanish players’ association, are seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Rubiales, along with a €50,000 ($51,800) fine for damages and a ban from holding any sports-related position.

Meanwhile, they are calling for the other three defendants to receive one-and-a-half-year prison terms.

Jenni Hermoso’s brother says her sister was ‘forced’ to understate Luis Rubiales kiss at 2023 World Cup

Jenni Hermoso’s brother, Rafael, has told a Spanish court that the football star was pressured to downplay the kiss she received from former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales after the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

Rubiales is currently on trial in Spain, facing charges of sexual assault and coercion after he grabbed and kissed Hermoso without her consent following Spain’s victory over England.

Hermoso later stated that the kiss was not consensual and claimed she was pressured to minimize the seriousness of Rubiales’ actions. Her brother, Rafael, has now testified in court, sharing details of what Hermoso told him about the incident shortly after it happened.

The case has drawn widespread attention, sparking conversations about consent and misconduct in sports, and putting a spotlight on the need for accountability within football’s leadership.

As reported by ESPN, he told the court: “She came to us half-crying and told us that they were pressuring her to take a stance downplaying the kiss.”

Rafael added that then-national team manager Jorge Vilda, who is also on trial for coercion, spoke to him on the flight home. He said:

“We were talking about soccer and the achievement of the team and suddenly he mentioned the kiss. He said that the president wanted me to talk to Jenni to ask her to record the video together downplaying the kiss, because that would be the best thing for everyone.”

He also said that he felt Vilda had threatened his sister about not helping and that he had told the Spain boss: “I was not going to try to convince her to do something that I also don’t agree with.”

Hermoso has already appeared as a witness at the trial, revealing the death threats she received after the kiss and how the saga “stained one of the happiest days of her life”. Rubiales denies all the charges against him and is still yet to testify.
The trial is set to continue and is expected to last 10 days in total.

Prosecutors are requesting a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Luis Rubiales, along with a €50,000 (£41,000) fine as compensation for damages. They are also seeking to have him banned from holding any position as a sports official.

Luis Rubiales trial: Hermoso to appear in court to testify against ex-football federation chief

Jenni Hermoso, a key member of Spain’s World Cup-winning team, is set to testify on Monday in the trial of former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales. The case stems from the infamous kiss that sparked a national “Me Too” movement in Spain.

The 34-year-old striker is the first witness in the proceedings, which will take place at Madrid’s High Court and are expected to last at least nine days.

Rubiales, 47, faces charges of sexual assault and attempting to coerce Hermoso, with the help of three other individuals, into falsely declaring that the kiss was consensual. Rubiales denies the accusations.

The incident occurred after Spain’s victory in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, when Rubiales was seen kissing Hermoso on the lips during the post-match awards ceremony. While Rubiales maintains the gesture was consensual, Hermoso described it as an act of aggression.

The scandal not only overshadowed Spain’s historic World Cup win but also became a turning point in the fight for gender equality in Spanish football. It helped amplify efforts by female players to highlight sexism and push for equal treatment with their male counterparts.

Rubiales has requested his daughters to testify in the case. Alongside him in the dock are former women’s national team coach Jorge Vilda, ex-football federation sporting director Albert Luque, and former RFEF marketing head Ruben Rivera. The group is expected to testify after the court hears from all other witnesses, with a date set for February 12.

Prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Rubiales, though under Spanish law, individuals sentenced to less than two years may avoid jail time by paying compensation, provided they have no prior criminal record.

The fallout from the scandal led to a strike by Hermoso’s teammates and prompted major changes within the federation, including the dismissal of Rubiales’s deputy and the appointment of a female head coach for the women’s national team for the first time.

Jenni Hermoso, Alexia Putellas, others feature in new Netflix documentary on Rubiales, Jorge Vilda

Jenni Hermoso is set to be featured in an upcoming Netflix documentary alongside other Spanish players, highlighting the controversy surrounding Luis Rubiales and Jorge Vilda.

Spain’s 2023 Women’s World Cup triumph, where they defeated England 1-0 in the final, should have centred on the team’s success.

Instead, attention shifted to Rubiales, the Spanish Football Federation’s president at the time, who faced backlash after kissing Hermoso during the post-match celebrations.

FIFA later banned Rubiales, and Hermoso has testified in court that the kiss was non-consensual. Rubiales is now facing trial on charges of sexual assault and coercion.

That was not the first controversy that surrounded the Spanish federation.

A year before the World Cup began, 15 national team players (‘Las 15’) made themselves unavailable for selection “until situations that affect our emotional and personal state, our performance, and, consequently, the results of the selection and that could lead to undesirable injuries are reversed.”

Following Spain’s World Cup victory, reports of controlling behaviour by head coach Jorge Vilda surfaced in the Spanish media. Despite the controversy, Vilda remained in his position until after Spain’s World Cup win.

Now, several Spanish players are set to appear in a Netflix documentary chronicling the turbulent year, from the ‘Las 15’ protest to their World Cup triumph.

The documentary, titled #SeAcabo: Diario de las campeonas (translated as #It’sOver: A Champion’s Diary), sheds light on their journey.

Netflix Spain shared images of players like Jenni Hermoso, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati, and Irene Paredes on X when unveiling the documentary.

  • Luis Rubiales tried to divert funds to Messi, Gerard Pique during COVID pandemic – Reports

Luis Rubiales tried to divert funds to Messi, Gerard Pique during COVID pandemic – Reports

Former RFEF president Luis Rubiales allegedly attempted to allocate UEFA funds to Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique during the COVID pandemic.

According to The Objective, Rubiales engaged in video conferences with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and Barcelona stars Messi and Pique over a three-month period to explore the possibility of using broadcasting rights revenue from UEFA matches to assist players facing financial hardships due to the pandemic.

It was suggested that four percent of these rights could be diverted to aid players who had undergone pay cuts as a result of the pandemic.

Messi reportedly emphasized the importance of maintaining confidentiality during the discussions, fearing potential backlash if details were to emerge.

The global lockdown measures implemented during the pandemic led to the suspension of football activities and resulted in many players accepting salary reductions.

At the time, Messi confirmed that Barcelona players would take a 70% pay cut to support the club in mitigating financial losses caused by the pandemic.

The Objective further reveals that leaked messages and audio recordings indicate Rubiales proposed redirecting funds to players who had experienced salary cuts directly to Ceferin.

Subsequently, the four individuals engaged in a four-hour video call to deliberate on the matter and continued to exchange messages thereafter.

As reported by AS, Rubiales allegedly told Ceferin: “I say it is important for us to have Messi and the rest with us. There is no need to spend money. We just change where the funds go.”

Rubiales also suggested Pique and Messi send a signed Barcelona shirt to Ceferin “as a token of gratitude”.

The discussions between Rubiales and the Barcelona players occurred between April and May of 2020, coinciding with the Catalan club’s resumption of La Liga action in June.

Despite their return to the field, Barcelona faced significant financial challenges, as evidenced by their announcement of a €97 million (£88m/$114m) loss at the end of the financial year due to the impact of COVID.

Ultimately, Messi departed the club a year later to join PSG, as Barcelona was unable to afford a new contract for the superstar.

Rubiales arraigned to stand trial for sexual assault following Hermoso kiss

Luis Rubiales is facing trial for alleged sexual assault and coercion following an incident during the World Cup where he kissed Jenni Hermoso without her consent during the trophy presentation ceremony.

Hermoso and her teammates described the kiss as unwanted and demeaning, while Rubiales claims it was consensual and accuses others of perpetuating “false feminism.”

The incident sparked global debate over sexism in Spain, overshadowing an historic moment for the women’s team.

According to the BBC, a Spanish High Court Judge confirmed on Wednesday that Rubiales will stand trial on charges of sexual assault and coercion.

Other prominent figures implicated in the case include Jorge Vilda, the former coach of the women’s national team, Albert Luque, the team’s current sporting director; and Ruben Rivera, the federation’s head of marketing.

They are all charged with coercion for allegedly pressuring Hermoso to claim that the kiss was consensual. If convicted, each could face up to 18 months in jail.

The trial is scheduled to take place at the Audiencia Nacional in Madrid, with the exact date yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, the court has imposed a bail of €65,000 for Rubiales’s sexual assault charge, which must be paid within 24 hours to cover any potential civil liabilities. An additional bail of €65,000 has been set jointly for Rubiales, Vilda, Luque, and Rivera regarding the coercion charges.

Rubiales has already received a three-year ban from all football-related activity, and Spanish prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half year jail term for him. They also demand that he pay €100,000 in damages to Hermoso.

The outcome of the trial will have significant implications for all involved, addressing issues of consent, power dynamics, and accountability within sports governance.

  • Rubiales denies engagement in Saudi dealings amidst corruption probe

Rubiales denies engagement in Saudi dealings amidst corruption probe

Former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales has denied allegations that his decision to relocate the Spanish Supercopa to Saudi Arabia was influenced by his personal business interests.

Rubiales was detained and briefly questioned by police upon his arrival in Madrid from the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.

He is under investigation as part of a corruption probe related to a lucrative three-year deal made by the RFEF with the Saudi sports authority in 2019 to host the competition in Saudi Arabia.

“I have never had business in Saudi Arabia,” Rubiales told La Sexta TV prior to his return to Spain. “It’s a lie that I have land to build hotels in Saudi Arabia, which is what is being reported.”

Rubiales further refuted allegations of receiving illegal commissions during his tenure as the head of the Spanish Football Federation (FA).

The corruption and money laundering investigation also encompasses contracts signed by the Spanish FA for the renovation of Seville’s La Cartuja stadium. This stadium is set to host Saturday’s Copa del Rey final and serves as the venue for various other international games.

“Never [received payments],” Rubiales said. “The money in my accounts is the product of my work and my savings.”

Former Barcelona star Gerard Piqué’s sports entertainment company, Kosmos, was involved in the deal with the federation and Saudi Arabia.

“It was Kosmos that brought Saudi Arabia [offer],” Rubiales said. “We chose the better offer.

“The Qatar option was never an offer. I have not received a bribe from Piqué. He has neither offered me anything nor have I taken anything.”

In 2022, prosecutors initiated an investigation into the deal following leaked audio conversations between Rubiales and Piqué regarding potential commissions.

Recently, Spanish police conducted raids on a property owned by Rubiales in Granada, as well as the offices of the RFEF in Madrid, while Rubiales was in the Dominican Republic.

Seven individuals were arrested and subsequently released, with Rubiales identified as one of five additional individuals under investigation.

Additionally, Rubiales is facing a separate legal case. Prosecutors are seeking a 2-1/2-year jail term for Rubiales for an incident involving an unsolicited kiss on the lips of player Jenni Hermoso following Spain’s victory at the Women’s World Cup.

Rubiales, who was forced to resign in September following the scandal, has denied any wrongdoing.

Police arrest Luis Rubiales amid corruption probe

Former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales found himself under police scrutiny upon his return to Spain in connection with a corruption investigation surrounding the relocation of the Spanish Supercopa to Saudi Arabia.

Rubiales, who was abroad in the Dominican Republic on March 21 during raids on his apartment in Granada and the RFEF headquarters in Madrid, had committed to returning to Spain on April 6 as scheduled.

However, he opted to return early, arriving at Madrid-Barajas airport where police awaited his arrival for questioning. Following the interrogation, he was released on the same day.

Although his arrest was not ordered by the presiding judge, Rubiales was taken into custody by the police’s Central Operational Unit department (UCO) for further questioning, according to ESPN sources.

Rubiales’ lawyer, Margrita Crespo, stated that he accompanied officers to a police station, where standard procedures such as reading his rights, fingerprinting, and searching his belongings were conducted. Despite this, Rubiales was not informed of any charges and was allowed to depart without restrictions.

Rubiales has denied any wrongdoing amid allegations that he personally benefited from the deal to take the Supercopa to the Gulf nation, telling La Sexta in an interview due to air on Wednesday that his money is “the product of my work and savings.”

The 2019 agreement to relocate the competition, facilitated by Rubiales and Gerard Piqué’s Kosmos company, initially valued at €120 million ($129.2m), has been extended until 2029.

This decision, which shifted the contest between league champions and Copa del Rey winners to a four-team format, sparked controversy among Spanish football purists.

Concerns were raised about the event’s relocation from August to January and its expansion beyond national borders.

Piqué’s involvement, given his status as an active player at the time, raised eyebrows, but both he and Rubiales asserted the legitimacy of their actions. However, leaked audio messages between the two in June 2022 prompted a Spanish court investigation into potential improper management by Rubiales.

In March, a judge authorized raids on 11 premises, including Rubiales’ property in Granada and the RFEF’s Madrid headquarters, leading to six arrests. While the RFEF suspended several staff members, Kosmos confirmed that no employees were detained or under investigation, and none of the company’s property was searched.

This incident adds to Rubiales’ legal woes following his resignation as RFEF president after a controversial incident involving midfielder Jenni Hermoso during the Women’s World Cup final in Australia.

FIFA imposed a three-year ban on Rubiales from football-related activities, while Spanish court proceedings recommended trial on charges of sexual assault and coercion, with a potential prison sentence of up to 2.5 years.

Spanish prosecutors request two-and-a-half-year jail term for Luis Rubiales over Hermoso kiss saga

Spanish prosecutors have requested a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Luis Rubiales for allegedly kissing Jenni Hermoso without her consent.

Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), kissed Hermoso after Spain’s Women’s World Cup final victory against England last year.

Despite Hermoso denying consent, Rubiales maintained his innocence and refused to step down, leading to his suspension by FIFA and eventual replacement at the helm of the RFEF.

The prosecutors’ office in Spain seeks one year in prison for sexual assault and an additional 18 months for coercion against Rubiales.

They also propose a four-year ban on contacting Hermoso or coming within 200 meters of her. Rubiales is not the only individual facing legal consequences.

RFEF directors Albert Luque and Ruben Rivera, along with former Spain women’s head coach Jorge Vilda, could also serve a year-and-a-half in prison for coercion in attempting to calm tensions surrounding Rubiales.

Additionally, Rubiales is ordered to compensate Hermoso with €50,000 for sexual assault, with an additional €50,000 for coercion from him and the other three individuals involved.

Apart from the Hermoso incident, Rubiales faces legal issues related to corruption allegations concerning a deal with Saudi Arabia, which has led to a warrant for his arrest.

Court wants Luis Rubiales to stand trial over Hermoso World Cup kiss

Spanish judge has suggested that the former president of the football federation, Luis Rubiales, be brought to trial in connection with the women’s World Cup kiss incident involving captain Jenni Hermoso.

The incident occurred during the presentation after Spain’s victory in Australia, where Mr. Rubiales grabbed Ms. Hermoso’s head and kissed her. While Ms. Hermoso stated that the kiss was “not consensual,”

Mr. Rubiales has denied this claim. The judge has determined that there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

During a hearing in Madrid, the judge described the kiss as “not consensual and… a unilateral and surprising initiative,” according to a statement from the court cited by the Reuters news agency.

Following the incident, Luis Rubiales resigned from his position as the president of Spain’s football federation. Mr. Rubiales had previously been charged by prosecutors with sexual assault and coercion in connection with the incident, and the potential penalties for such actions range from fines to four years of imprisonment.

The case has implicated several Spanish football executives, including Jenni Hermoso’s former coach, a former marketing manager, and the sports director of the men’s team. Jorge Vilda, Rubén Rivera, and Albert Luque are accused of allegedly pressuring Ms. Hermoso to publicly declare that the kiss had been consensual.

The judge in Madrid has determined that the trio should also face trial.

Legal representatives involved in the proceedings now have a 10-day window to formally request a trial before a court. Jenni Hermoso, Spain’s leading goal scorer, provided testimony before the court investigating her allegation, a process that lasted for more than two and a half hours in January.

According to Spanish media, she said the kiss was “unexpected and at no time consensual.”.

Jenni Hermoso said she “received threats” amid the controversy.

A statement issued shortly after the final that was attributed to Ms Hermoso indicated the kiss had been consensual. But she later complained of being pressured by officials of the Spanish football federation to add her name to the statement.

The kiss took place during the medal ceremony in Sydney on August 20 last year, following Spain’s win over England.

Mr Rubiales has always maintained the kiss was a “consensual peck,” but in the wake of the incident, he was forced to resign as president of the Spanish football federation.

It set off a wave of global anger at sexism at the highest levels of women’s sport.

Embattled Spain FA boss Rubiales launches NFT to ‘support real equality’ against media manipulations

On Wednesday, Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), introduced his own NFT, stating that it aimed “to support real equality.”

Rubiales is currently facing charges of sexual assault and coercion in a Madrid court related to his behaviour following the Women’s World Cup final last August.

The charges include his non-consensual kiss of Spain forward Jenni Hermoso. Testimonies have been heard from Hermoso, her teammates, Rubiales, and federation executives, and the investigating judge will now determine whether the case proceeds to trial.

Rubiales shared a statement from The Moon Labs, a South Korean company, on social media on Tuesday.

It said it had “created [a] digital campaign environment for people who support President Luis Rubiales” with “an NFT project to honour Luis Rubiales for his contributions to Spanish and global football.”

“This message is for those who support real equality and not radicalism or media manipulations,” Rubiales posted. “I am very grateful for the support of so many people and I especially want to thank The Moon Labs for their courage.”

On Wednesday, the NFT featuring Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), was launched on the online marketplace OpenSea.

The NFT showcased an image of Rubiales as a child holding a football, with the description highlighting his early years and cheerful personality. At the moment, 40 NFTs had been created, but none had been sold.

The NFT release comes amid Rubiales facing charges of sexual assault and coercion related to his actions following Spain’s Women’s World Cup final win over England in August 2023.

The controversial kiss of Spain forward Jenni Hermoso during the medal ceremony led to Rubiales’ resignation as RFEF president and a subsequent FIFA ban from football-related activities for three years.

Hermoso filed a formal complaint, initiating an ongoing criminal investigation in Madrid, while Rubiales maintains his innocence.

Hermoso told a Spanish television programme this week that the kiss and its aftermath were “one of the worst things that’s happened to me in my life and very hard to deal with.”

She also accused the former Spain manager Jorge Vilda, now coach of Morocco, of controlling behaviour during his time in charge of the national team.

Jenni Hermoso confirms to court that Rubiales kiss was ‘unexpected’

Spain’s football player, Jenni Hermoso, has testified in court that a kiss from Luis Rubiales during the Women’s World Cup in 2023 was “unexpected” and not consensual.

Hermoso provided her account of the incident in a Madrid court following Spain’s World Cup victory in August 2023.

Luis Rubiales, then the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), kissed Hermoso, who informed the judge that the act was non-consensual.

Following the incident, Spanish prosecutors initiated a criminal investigation, and a judge will determine whether Rubiales will face charges of sexual assault and coercion.

Hermoso told the court the kiss was “unexpected and in no way consensual.” The World Cup winner also said she believed she had been a “victim of assault.”.

Hermoso refused to say any more after leaving the court, telling reporters only: “All is in the hands of justice; that’s all I can say.”

Rubiales has refuted the accusations and declined to apologise, asserting that the kiss was a “mutual” act.

Despite his denial, he was compelled to resign from his position as the president of the RFEF and received a three-year ban from football imposed by FIFA in light of the controversy.

If found guilty of sexual assault, Rubiales may be subject to a four- or five-year prison sentence, as reported by the Guardian.

Hermoso has acknowledged the challenging nature of life following the scandal, revealing that she has sought the assistance of a psychologist due to receiving threats.

Despite the difficulties, the 33-year-old has made a comeback to the Spain squad, registering a goal in her first game back against Italy.

Additionally, she recently concluded a transfer from Pachuca to Tigres.

  • Rubiales claims Spain players targeted him for revenge after he refused to dismiss Coach Vilda

Rubiales claims Spain players targeted him for revenge after he refused to dismiss Coach Vilda

Former Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales
has accused Spain’s women’s players of seeking “revenge” against him after he refused to dismiss manager Jorge Vilda.

Rubiales alleges that the players requested the dismissal of national team coach Jorge Vilda, a request he denied.

The 46-year-old claims that his subsequent dismissal and the initiation of a criminal investigation into his conduct were part of a revenge plot against him.

Rubiales faced backlash when he kissed Spain striker Jenni Hermoso, reportedly without consent, during the trophy presentation after Spain defeated England in the Women’s World Cup final.

Following three weeks of widespread condemnation, Rubiales resigned from his position as RFEF president.

Spain’s public prosecutor launched an investigation into his conduct after Hermoso claimed that Rubiales pressured her not to complain about the kiss.

In a YouTube interview with Alvise Perez, Rubiales said: “We have been very alone due to the blackmail that we have suffered from certain footballers, who told me to kick out [Jorge] Vilda. Whoever said that they did not ask for Vilda’s head, they asked me directly in a conversation.

“They wanted his head and since I didn’t give it to them, and with Jorge [Vilda], we have been world champions, because they saw the sky open with the opportunity and said, With this theatre, we took down Vilda and Rubiales; it was revenge.”

Rubiales went on to accuse Hermoso of lying in regard to his conduct after the kiss.

He said, “Jenni lies about the fact that I put pressure on her after the kiss, and she knows she is lying.”

In October, Jorge Vilda was named the head coach of the Morocco women’s team, despite facing allegations of inappropriate conduct.

Jenni Hermoso, who continues to represent Spain and plays for the Mexican Liga MX Femenil side CF Pachuca, accused Luis Rubiales of inappropriate behaviour.

Rubiales, banned from all football activities for three years by FIFA, is currently under investigation for charges of ‘sexual assault and coercion’.

FIFA slaps embattled Luis Rubiales with three-year football ban after Jenni Hermoso kiss scandal

Former RFEF boss Luis Rubiales, who faced disgrace for an incident involving an unauthorised kiss with Spain’s Jenni Hermoso, has been handed a three-year ban from football.

FIFA’s disciplinary committee determined that Rubiales, the former president of Spain’s Football Association (RFEF), had violated Article 13 of the FIFA disciplinary code with his behaviour following the Women’s World Cup final.

This ban encompasses all football-related activities for three years.

The incident occurred when the 46-year-old kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips as she received her winner’s medal following Spain’s victory over England in Sydney.

Hermoso later confirmed that she had not consented to the kiss, leading to a series of events, including a mass walkout by Spanish players and support staff.

Despite the controversy, Rubiales had persistently denied any wrongdoing, even when resigning from his position as RFEF president.

In August, FIFA imposed a provisional 90-day suspension, and now they have issued a three-year ban, which will keep him away from football until 2026.

It’s important to note that there is still a right to appeal available in this case.

FIFA’s statement explained: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has banned Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), from all football-related activities at national and international levels for three years, having found that he acted in breach of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

“This case relates to the events that occurred during the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on August 20, 2023, for which Mr Rubiales had been provisionally suspended for an initial period of 90 days.

“Mr Rubiales has been notified of the terms of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision today.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, he has ten days in which to request a motivated decision. The decision remains subject to a possible appeal before the FIFA Appeal Committee.

“FIFA reiterates its absolute commitment to respecting and protecting the integrity of all people and ensuring that the basic rules of decent conduct are upheld.”
In addition to his FIFA ban, Luis Rubiales is currently facing a criminal investigation in Spain. This legal process began after prosecutors received Jenni Hermoso’s initial complaint of sexual assault, which was filed with a court in Madrid.

A second complaint of coercion was later added, relating to alleged pressure on Hermoso to support Rubiales against the backlash resulting from his actions.

Rubiales recently appeared in court, where he denied both charges. However, he was issued a restraining order that prohibits him from coming within 200 metres of Hermoso.

Former Spain head coach Jorge Vilda, who had publicly supported Rubiales during a controversial speech in which the former president claimed he was being unfairly targeted by “false feminism,” is also under investigation in connection with the coercion allegation. Vilda has denied any wrongdoing.

Vilda was dismissed from his role last month following a series of issues during his tenure. Controversially, he has already secured a new position as the head coach of Morocco’s women’s national team.

Jenni Hermoso mulls legal action over leaked testimony – Reports

Spain international Jenni Hermoso is considering taking legal action after her videotaped testimony in the investigation of Luis Rubiales over his unsolicited kiss was leaked to the media, sources have told ESPN.

Hermoso gave evidence to a Spanish state prosecutor before lodging a criminal complaint on Sept. 6 against then-Spain Football Federation (RFEF) president Rubiales.

Rubiales is accused of sexual assault and coercion after kissing Hermoso on the lips without her consent during the awards ceremony following the Women’s World Cup final in August.

Sources told ESPN that Hermoso is disappointed and stunned that excerpts from her testimony were shown on Spanish TV and is now exploring potential legal responses.

Rubiales, who eventually resigned from his post after the scandal, testified on Oct. 4 before a judge in Madrid and his testimony was also leaked to the media.

Francisco de Jorge, the judge presiding over the case, announced he will open an investigation into the leaked testimonies to the media, as the disclosure of secrets constitutes serious crimes.

Moreover, he has restricted the use of cameras during hearings.

Former Spain women’s coach Jorge Vilda and RFEF marketing director Ruben Ribera, who were added to the investigation, testified on Tuesday.

Hermoso was honoured at the International Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday evening at a ceremony in Pachuca, and the Spain international gave an emotional speech reflecting on her team’s Women’s World Cup triumph.

“We became world champions because it was the only way we had left to be heard, respected and valued,” Hermoso said. “My national team changed the way many people see women’s soccer. I am sure that millions of girls around the world have felt identified and protected by this group of brave, committed and honest players who, in every step they have taken, have always thought about their future.

“Many things have happened since then; perhaps we sacrificed some joys and some celebrations, and, without deserving it, we suffered more than necessary in a historic moment for us. It is clear that we have an enormous responsibility towards the new generations…”We win on the field and off it to ensure an inclusive sport and society that protects us all. And to everyone, I want to say: It’s over! I am Jenni Hermoso; I am a soccer player and I am that girl who managed to become a World Champion.”

  • Luis Rubiales accuses Hermoso of “being untrue”, after her denial of consenting to ‘a peck’

Former Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has accused Jenni Hermoso of lying about the kiss he gave her after the Women’s World Cup final.

Rubiales has insisted to Spain’s National Court that the Spanish striker gave him consent to kiss her during the medal ceremony. The 46-year-old sparked controversy when he kissed Hermoso on the lips following Spain’s 2-1 defeat of England in the World Cup final on August 20. Hermoso claimed that the kiss was non-consensual, and Rubiales resigned from his position three weeks after the incident.

“She knows perfectly well that she is being untrue,” Rubiales told prosecutors, as reported by El Espanol.

“At the medal ceremony, I was hugging the players and the coach when she passed by. She comes to me to give me a hug. We hug, she lifts me up and I make a gesture so as not to fall. All this with a conversation in which I remind her—because she had missed a penalty—to cheer her up a little and say that without her, we couldn’t have won the World Cup.

“She tells me I’m a crack [an endearing slang term in Spanish]. Thank you very much. And then I ask her, ‘can I give you a little kiss, a little peck?’ And she tells me that it’s okay.”

Prosecutors asked Rubiales why he grabbed Hermoso around the head and if she had given her consent to be kissed.

“Well, out of joy,” he replied. “She grabs me wherever she can; I grab her too and that’s it. Two or three minutes later, they all grabbed me and pulled me up, swinging me.

“And at that moment, I’m not going to say that they shouldn’t touch me; excuse me, my butt, my knees or my shoulder. We have won a World Cup and the tremendous euphoria and joy there are indescribable.

“It happened that way because when you win the lottery, a war ends, the war in Ukraine ends or you win a World Cup, well, that effusiveness, that spontaneity…”

Also, Rubiales asserted that he and Hermoso spoke briefly about the possible consequences of the kiss.

“Hey, Jenni, why don’t we both go out? Let’s end this, because this is going to hurt me a lot,” Rubiales claimed to have said.

Rubiales said that Hermoso replied, “No, look, President Rubi, I’ll pass. I want to enjoy the World Cup. I’m not going to make any more statements.”

According to El Confidencial, Rubiales pressured an RFEF employee to testify that Hermoso gave her consent to the kiss. Rubiales is banned from contacting Hermoso and from being within 200 metres of her.

After the World Cup, many Spanish players signed a statement stating their intention to boycott playing for the national team until significant structural changes had been made.

Their stance did not initially change after Rubiales’ resignation, but many reported for duty at the end of September for fear of the legal repercussions of not doing so.

  • Putellas, Paredes, Rodríguez to testify as witnesses in the ongoing Rubiales case on October 2nd

Putellas, Paredes, Rodríguez to testify as witnesses in the ongoing Rubiales case on October 2nd

Spain players Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes, and Misa Rodríguez have been summoned as witnesses in the case involving former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales, as confirmed by judicial sources to EFE.

Barcelona’s Putellas and Paredes, along with Real Madrid goalkeeper Rodríguez, will provide their testimonies via video link on the upcoming Monday.

Rubiales is facing charges of sexual assault and coercion, accused of forcibly kissing forward Jenni Hermoso without consent after Spain’s 1-0 victory over England in the Women’s World Cup final on August 20.

Prosecutors allege that he subsequently pressured Hermoso and her family to publicly defend his actions when criticism arose regarding his behavior.

Earlier this week, Hermoso’s brother, Rafael, and one of her close friends testified against Rubiales.

During his initial hearing on September 15 in Madrid, Rubiales denied any wrongdoing and was issued a restraining order preventing him from approaching Hermoso within 200 meters.

The fallout from the incident following Spain’s World Cup win has had a significant impact on Spanish football. Despite Rubiales’ resignation and the dismissal of coach Jorge Vilda, most players initially refused to return to national team duty until further structural changes were made within the RFEF.

The Spain National Sports Council (CSD) intervened, and after a meeting last Tuesday, several changes were agreed upon, leading the players to commit to participating in this month’s UEFA Nations League matches, beginning with a 3-2 victory against Sweden on Friday.

As Spain prepared to face Switzerland in Cordoba on Tuesday, their first home game since becoming world champions, midfielder Aitana Bonmatí noted that improvements had started to take place.

“The first few days of this camp were difficult,” the Barça midfielder said in a news conference on Monday. “We could not sleep or rest enough, we had anxiety, but as the days passed things have calmed down.

“We want to return to normality, knowing that there are still a lot of things to improve, which we have spoken about. We are committed to all these improvements and want to leave a good legacy for the generations that come next.

“And not just on a sporting level, but on a societal level as well. We want an egalitarian society in which men and women have the same rights.”

Bonmati’s club and international teammate Mariona Caldentey thanked captains Putellas and Paredes for their role in last week’s meetings with the RFEF and the CSD.

“Those two have taken the brunt of the wear and tear,” she said. “Above all in the days before [the Sweden game] with all the meetings.

“We weren’t as involved as those two, who have been under the most demands. What those two have done is to be praised and we are grateful.

“After [the Switzerland] match, we hope things keep advancing and improving and we will keep fighting for that. We hope that what happened during this international break is never repeated again.

“We want to come back again in October and win again. We want to qualify for the Olympic Games [through the Nations League]. We want to come back with the conditions we deserve.

“The RFEF, CSD and players are committed to these changes to keep making advances. We hope everything is complied with and we can keep enjoying our football.”

Meanwhile, new Spain coach Montse Tomé, who was previously Vilda’s assistant, knocked back reports the players had demanded her dismissal.

“I never felt that was something that had been asked,” she said. “Results will dictate my job in the end, I know that, but I never felt that one of the changes needed was for me to go.

“During the first days of this camp there was a strange atmosphere that had to be fixed. We have spoken, looked each other in the eyes and been honest to take steps forward.

“The players are professionals 100% and since beating Sweden you can see how happy they are. They enjoy playing football. The following days have been calmer and we are looking forward to the game on Tuesday.”

  • Rubiales and his father reportedly exerted pressure on a Spain press officer to provide false testimony

Rubiales and his father reportedly exerted pressure on a Spain press officer to provide false testimony

Luis Rubiales reportedly exerted pressure on a press officer of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to claim that Jenni Hermoso had authorised statements absolving him of wrongdoing.

Following the controversial kiss Rubiales gave Hermoso after Spain’s Women’s World Cup final victory against England, the RFEF released a statement asserting that the star player had given her consent to the then-RFEF president.

According to El Confidencial, Rubiales and his father allegedly pressured the head of the Spain women’s team’s press office to provide written confirmation that Hermoso had indeed authorised the release of the statements that downplayed the controversy.

It is claimed that this testimony from Patricia Perez, who heads the communications department, was subsequently used by the RFEF’s Integrity Department to issue a favourable ruling for Rubiales.

Rubiales initially resisted calls to resign from his position and was suspended by FIFA for 90 days before eventually stepping down.

Perez was reportedly summoned to a meeting that included Rubiales, his father, and other members of the RFEF and its Integrity Department.

She is reported to have said that “since the press was asking about the kiss, it was proposed by the Communication Department to release some statements about it, and once approved by [Hermoso], they were sent to the media”.

However, Hermoso had said on an Instagram Live after the final that she did not like Rubiales’ actions and later clarified in a statement of her own: “I feel obliged to report that Mr. Rubiales’ words explaining the unfortunate incident are categorically false and part of the manipulative culture that he himself has generated. The kiss was never consensual.”

She criticised the RFEF once more, as well as the new coach, Montse Tome, for maintaining that they are safeguarding her by not including the star player in the national team’s lineup for this month.

  • Jenni Hermoso upset over Spain squad announcement, says ‘nothing has changed’

Jenni Hermoso upset over Spain squad announcement, says ‘nothing has changed’

Jenni Hermoso, aged 33, expressed her belief that the decision to include players who are participating in the Spanish women’s team boycott is evidence that “nothing has changed” within the country’s football federation (RFEF), even after the resignation of its president due to the Women’s World Cup kiss controversy.

Despite the majority of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad being named on the roster for upcoming matches, the players have announced their intention to maintain their boycott.

This boycott was initiated following an incident where Luis Rubiales, the former RFEF president, kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the trophy presentation ceremony in Australia.

If the players decline the call-up, they could potentially face fines of up to 30,000 euros and the suspension of their federation licence for a duration ranging from two to 15 years under Spain’s Sports Act.

The RFEF did not provide an immediate response to a request for comment outside of regular business hours.

In a statement released earlier on Monday, the federation expressed its belief in the necessity of “structural changes” and emphasized the need to identify those accountable for the behavior highlighted by the players.

Montse Tome, who has taken over as the coach of the national team, indicated that Jenni Hermoso was omitted from the squad due to the significant media scrutiny she had endured over the past month.

“We stand with Jenni. We believe that the best way to protect her is like this, but we are counting on Jenni,” Tome said.

Hermoso asked who she needed protection from.

“A claim was made today stating that the environment within the federation would be safe for my colleagues to rejoin yet at the press conference it was announced that they were not calling me as a means to protect me,” she said.

“Protect me from what? And from whom?”

  • Luis Rubiales insists he wouldn’t apologise to Jenni Hermoso

Luis Rubiales insists he wouldn’t apologise to Jenni Hermoso

Luis Rubiales has refused to apologise and is adamant that the “truth will come out” after kissing Jenni Hermoso on the lips following Spain’s World Cup victory.

Following weeks of rising criticism and requests for his resignation, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) resigned on Sunday and gave an explanation for his decision in an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Following the kiss incident, which Spanish forward Hermoso said was not consensual, Rubiales acknowledged he was unable to continue his work following the nation’s 1-0 victory over England in the Women’s World Cup final on August 20.

However, in the full interview on TalkTV, the 46-year-old insisted the kiss was “mutual” and said he was not concerned about potentially facing criminal charges, with the ex-RFEF president being summoned to appear before a court in Spain after prosecutors opened a case against him for “the crimes of sexual assault and coercion”.

When asked if he would personally apologise to Hermoso, Rubiales said: “So what happened is bad for everyone. We had Jenni lifting me.

“We had the fleeting kiss of two tenths of a second, but what was created from that is crazy. So what’s left for me is to defend my dignity. So it’s not about that, Piers; it’s about humility.”

When asked three more times if he would apologise to Hermoso, he continued: “So what we had is a spontaneous act, a mutual act, an act that both consented to, which was driven by the emotion of the moment, the happiness, so I maintain that that is the truth of what happened.”

Rubiales was seen kissing a number of Spain’s World Cup winning side on the cheek when they collected their winners’ medals and lifting some up in the air, too.

“He also put Athenea del Castillo on his shoulders before carrying her, holding the back of her thighs.

When asked if he would have acted the same way towards the men’s team, Rubiales replied: “No doubt about it, 100 percent… When I was a player, there were many moments where we avoided relegation or we got promotion, where we gave what we call pecks on the lips.”

Rubiales will have to testify as a defendant on Friday as part of the lawsuit against him, however, he struck a confident and relaxed tone when asked about the situation.

He said: “I am a lawyer; I am a Spanish citizen; I have been through many processes, criminal as well, and nothing has ever stuck. Again, I have full faith that the truth will come out and everything will be fine. Take a look at my face, I am a good guy. Look at my face, look at me in the eyes.”

  • Spain’s Women coach sacked as Luis Rubiales kissing Jenni Hermoso scandal wage on

Spain’s Women coach sacked as Luis Rubiales kissing Jenni Hermoso scandal wage on

Coach who led Spain to a World Cup victory, Jorge Vilda, has been dismissed as part of significant changes implemented by the RFEF following the Luis Rubiales scandal.

Vilda guided Spain to a World Cup triumph last month with a 1-0 victory over England in the final, despite facing a player mutiny a year earlier when a majority of the squad called for his removal.

In response to the mutiny, 15 players vowed not to play for the team as long as Vilda remained in charge. However, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) continued to support Vilda, with President Luis Rubiales strongly endorsing him.

Rubiales even pledged to offer Vilda a new contract after Spain’s World Cup win.

However, FIFA’s decision to suspend Rubiales from all football activities for 90 days following his inappropriate behaviour of grabbing and kissing captain Jenni Hermoso after the final rocked the president’s position.

Despite refusing to resign in a remarkable press conference, FIFA’s suspension temporarily removed him from the RFEF, with Pedro Rocha taking on the role of interim chief.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the RFEF announced Vilda’s dismissal just hours after issuing a lengthy letter in which they apologised for Rubiales’ “unacceptable” conduct.

“The Royal Spanish Football Federation, in one of the first renewal measures announced by president Pedro Rocha, has decided to dispense with the services of Jorge Vilda as sports director and women’s national coach,” read the statement.

“The RFEF appreciates his work at the head of the National Team and in his functions as the head of sports for the women’s teams, as well as the successes achieved during his time, crowned with the recent achievement of the World Cup.

We value his impeccable personal and sporting conduct, as a key piece in the notable growth of women’s football in Spain.

“Since his arrival at the Federation, Jorge Vilda has given a notable boost that is reflected in the great results obtained. As a coach, he won the U-17 European Championship twice and also won the U-19 European Championship, with winning the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand being the greatest of his achievements. When he took over the National Team bench in 2015, the national team was far from elite and currently occupies second place in the FIFA ranking.

“As sports director, Spain has won the U-17 World Cup twice (2018 and 2022) and also won the trophy in the U-20 category (2022). In addition, their record includes two U-19 European Championships and two U-17 European Championships, with the national youth team currently being the most successful.

“The RFEF would like to express its gratitude to Jorge Vilda for the services provided, for his professionalism and dedication during all these years, wishing him the best successes in the future. The RFEF is left with an extraordinary sporting legacy thanks to the implementation of a recognised game model and a methodology that has been an engine of growth for all the women’s categories of the national team.”

Shortly after announcing Vilda’s departure, the RFEF confirmed that Monte Tome would be replacing him in the hot seat. The former Levante and Barcelona player has been promoted from her role as assistant manager and is the first female head coach of the Spain senior team.

  • Women’s World Cup-winning coach fired amid Luis Rubiales kiss saga

Women’s World Cup-winning coach fired amid Luis Rubiales kiss saga

Jorge Vilda, the head coach of Spain’s Women’s World Cup-winning team, has been dismissed from his position amid the Luis Rubiales scandal that has engulfed Spanish football.

Spain’s Women’s World Cup victory was marred by controversy when the president of the country’s football federation, Luis Rubiales, was seen kissing forward Jenni Hermoso, a gesture she later stated was not consensual.

Following the incident, most of Vilda’s coaching staff resigned, and 81 players refused to represent Spain in protest.

While Luis Rubiales has resisted calls for his resignation, he has been temporarily suspended by Fifa, the global governing body of football.

In a statement, Spanish federation the RFEF did not give a specific reason for Vilda’s dismissal, saying he had been “a promoter of the values of respect and sportsmanship in football”.

Nevertheless, the RFEF has been contemplating the possibility of removing 42-year-old Vilda, who is seen as a close associate of Rubiales, since the previous week.

The RFEF described this action as “one of the initial renewal measures” announced by interim president Pedro Rocha, who has assumed the role during Rubiales’ suspension by Fifa.

It’s worth noting that Vilda had previously applauded Rubiales at the RFEF’s extraordinary general assembly in August, during which Rubiales reiterated his refusal to step down and indicated his intention to extend Vilda’s contract. However, Vilda has since criticized Rubiales’ conduct.

“The RFEF appreciates [Vilda’s] work at the head of the national team and in his functions as the head of sports for the women’s teams, as well as the successes achieved during his time crowned with the recent achievement of the World Cup,” said the RFEF.

“We value his impeccable personal and sporting conduct, being a key piece in the notable growth of women’s football in Spain.”

Vilda, who had been in charge of the national team since 2015, survived a player ‘revolt’ in September 2022, when the RFEF released a statement revealing 15 players had submitted identical emails saying they would not play for Vilda unless “significant” concerns over their “emotional state” and “health” were addressed.

‘Las 15’ – as the players became known – denied claims they had asked for Vilda, who has always maintained the support of Rubiales, to be sacked, but tension followed amid reports of concerns over training methods and inadequate game preparation.

Of those 15, just three ended their exile and were back in the squad as Spain beat England in the World Cup final in Sydney last month.

Vilda oversaw 108 matches as Spain coach, winning 75, and reached the European Championship quarter-finals in 2017 and 2022.

The World Cup winners are currently second in the Fifa women’s world rankings.

The RFEF’s statement added: “The RFEF would like to express its gratitude to Jorge Vilda for the services provided, for his professionalism and dedication during all these years, wishing him the best successes in the future.

“The RFEF is left with an extraordinary sporting legacy thanks to the implementation of a recognised game model and a methodology that has been an engine of growth for all the women’s categories of the national team.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Rocha apologised to the “whole of the football world” for the “totally unacceptable behaviour” of Rubiales.

Rocha said he plans to “give back the spotlight” to the women’s team after their World Cup victory was overshadowed.

A lengthy statement said: “The Royal Spanish Football Federation, through its president, Mr. Pedro Rocha, considers it is essential to present the most sincere apologies to the football institutions, the players, especially the players of the Spanish National Football Team and the English National Football Team, stakeholders involved in football and the fans around the world for the totally unacceptable behaviour of its highest institutional representative during the final of the Fifa Women’s World Cup 2023 and in the moments that followed.

“The damage caused to Spanish football, to Spanish sport, to Spanish society and the values of football and sport as a whole have been enormous.

“The RFEF wants to transmit to the whole of society and to the whole of the football world its utmost regret for what happened that has tarnished our team, our football and our society.

“We must apologise most sincerely and make a firm and absolute commitment that events like these can never happen again.”

  • Court delivers Luis Rubiales’ kiss verdict

Court delivers Luis Rubiales’ kiss verdict

The Sports Administrative Court (TAD) in Spain has issued a ruling regarding Luis Rubiales’ actions when he kissed Jennifer Hermoso, determining that it does not qualify as a “very serious offence.”

TAD conducted an investigation into Rubiales’ behaviour during the Women’s World Cup final, where he forcefully embraced and kissed Hermoso. According to Marca, a verdict has been delivered, categorising Rubiales’ actions as “serious” but not “very serious.”

FIFA had previously imposed a 90-day suspension on Rubiales, but TAD’s decision now raises the possibility of his return to his previous position as president of the Football Federation in Spain once his ban concludes.

However, it’s worth noting that TAD’s classification of the offence as “serious” could still result in a two-year suspension for Rubiales.

The investigation was conducted based on the old Law of Sport, which was established in 1990. Had the updated rules from 2022 been applied, Rubiales’ actions might have been categorised as “very serious.”

Currently, Rubiales is still under scrutiny by both FIFA and the Spanish government, and it’s uncertain whether additional measures will be taken.

It’s noteworthy that the entire staff of the Spain national team, which won the World Cup, has resigned, with the exception of head coach Jorge Vilda.

His mother was also hospitalised over her refusal to eat in protest of the accusations against him and he has even had his character questioned by his uncle, who labelled him a “cowardly man”.

Luis Rubiales’ uncle questions his character, calls him ‘a cowardly man obsessed with power and women’

President of the Spanish Football Association (FA), Luis Rubiales, has faced strong criticism from his own uncle, who has described him as a “cowardly man” with an “obsession” for power, luxury, money, and women.

Rubiales has been handed a suspension by FIFA from all football-related activities due to his conduct during the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

He was captured on camera grabbing his crotch during Spain’s 1-0 victory over England.

Additionally, he was seen hugging players and kissing Barcelona striker Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the post-match medal ceremony.

Despite facing widespread backlash, Rubiales has chosen not to resign and continues to defend himself.

His mother has even resorted to a hunger strike to clear his name. However, the entire squad of 23 players from Spain’s World Cup-winning team has vowed not to represent the national team until he steps down from his position.

Furthermore, 11 members of Jorge Vilda’s coaching staff have resigned.

Rubiales has faced criticism from various notable figures in sports and government. Now, his own uncle has questioned the character of the 46-year-old FA chief.

Juan Rubiales, who served as his nephew’s chief of staff at the RFEF between 2018 and 2020 but now endures a strained relationship with a close family member, has told El Confidencial: “Dignity is to defend Jenni, understand her, and reproach the embarrassing behaviour of this president.

“He is a proud, arrogant person and his great enemy is himself. He is suffering because of his pride and arrogance. And now he does not have the slightest dignity to get out of this trance in an honourable way.

“He is a cowardly man. When he puts on the boss’ hat, of course, he feels that he is the best.

“He is a man obsessed with power, obsessed with luxury, obsessed with money, even with women. I believe that this boy needs a programme of social re-education and re-education in his relationship with women.”

UEFA has rejected calls from the RFEF for Spanish teams to be banned from European competition as a result of government interference in sporting matters, but a long-running saga appears set to drag on for some time yet.

Luis Rubiales forwards a video to FIFA showing Jenni Hermoso joking with teammates about World Cup kiss incident

President of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, has reportedly forwarded a video to FIFA that appears to depict Jenni Hermoso joking about their controversial kiss incident.

Rubiales has found himself embroiled in a significant controversy in Spain following the Women’s World Cup final, in which Spain emerged victorious with a 1-0 win.

After the triumph over England, Rubiales kissed Hermoso without her consent, sparking a backlash.

Hermoso later expressed her discomfort with the kiss, and 81 players have since declared their refusal to play for the Spanish team until Rubiales is removed from his position.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Rubiales’ mother has initiated a hunger strike, urging Hermoso to “tell the truth” about the incident.

Rubiales has consistently maintained that the kiss was “consensual”, although an ongoing investigation is examining his behaviour.

Now, fresh footage has surfaced from the Spanish team’s bus, showing Hermoso seemingly amused by social media memes arising from the kiss incident.

She displays an image of the moment juxtaposed with a picture of Iker Casillas kissing reporter Sara Carbonero after the Spanish men’s team won the 2010 World Cup.

Subsequently, Rubiales is captured boarding the bus, while the team appears to chant the word “beso,” which means “kiss” in Spanish.

While Rubiales has been suspended by FIFA, he has sent the video to the organization as part of his efforts to defend himself, as reported by El Espanol.

This ongoing saga has taken over headlines in Spain, and the response from FIFA to the video remains to be seen.

  • Spanish FA claim Jenni Hermoso lied about kiss with Luis Rubiales

Spanish FA claim Jenni Hermoso lied about kiss with Luis Rubiales

The Spanish Football Federation says Jenni Hermoso lied when she said she didn’t agree to be kissed by Luis Rubiales after the Women’s World Cup final.

Rubiales was supposed to quit as the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) because of his behavior during Spain’s win over England in the recent final. However, in a strong press conference on Friday, the 46-year-old said he will not leave his position. He believes that he is being unfairly attacked and blamed, referring to it as ‘social murder’ and ‘false feminism’.

In her statement after Rubiales’ speech, Hermoso said: ‘I want to make it clear that I never agreed to the kiss. ‘

I don’t like it when people question what I say, and it’s even worse when they make up things that I never said.

Spain’s players are choosing not to play for their national team until Rubiales is no longer in charge. They have also received a message of encouragement from the Lionesses.

But the Spanish Football Association has now put out a statement accusing Hermoso of wanting to have contact with Rubiales during the World Cup medal ceremony. They have also shared pictures that they believe prove that Rubiales has been telling the truth.

The Spanish Football Federation says they know about a statement by the Futpro union about the President of the Federation,Mr. Villar Luis Rubiales spoke during the special meeting of the RFEF.

The union’s note claims to represent Mrs. Jennifer Hermoso said some things, and they are written with quotation marks, suggesting that she said them.

The RFEF wants to let everyone know that they have been trying to reach out to Ms. [Name] to discuss the complaints she filed with them. Jennifer Hermoso has not succeeded at any time.

The RFEF says they will take legal actions to defend their President’s reputation. He clearly explained what happened that caused conflict and made people laugh. The people in society do not support or are against Mr. The leader of a country.

“The note quotes Mrs. Smith as saying I did not agree to the kiss he gave me, and I did not try to make the president notice me, as you can see in the pictures. I don’t like it when people doubt or make up things that I haven’t said.

In a society where laws are followed, as the president has mentioned, people’s opinions are supported by facts and evidence, and false statements are challenged and proven wrong in a legal setting.

The president of the RFEF has shown great respect for the players and institutions. He only decided to speak publicly when a very serious boundary was crossed.

The President’s account of what happened is confirmed in the private documents that have been accessed, and so far,Mrs. Smith has not contradicted it. Jennifer Hermoso has not answered any of the questions asked.

The text is about the first presentation of information by Mr. Smith The things the President says are completely true and he is not lying. We will now start giving proof for what he said, along with pictures.

Ms stands for “miz” and is a title used for women, similar to Mr. for men Jennifer Hermoso continues to hold onto Mr. The President has returned.  The President puts his arms on the player’s body.

We have confirmed that Mr. X’s statement is true. The president already has much taller shoes.
Ms is a title used for addressing women. Jennifer Hermoso keeps her arms still like the president’s body, while the president needs to move his arms closer to the player’s back because he picked her up and needs to stay balanced.

The slope of Mrs. Johnson’s back is very steep. Jennifer Hermoso’s strength and power when she is doing something is unquestionable.

Mr Johnson, who is an important leader in our society, was walking down the street when he suddenly stumbled and fell. After the accident, he couldn’t move his legs and was in a lot of pain. The player forcefully lifts the President’s feet off the ground.
Mrs is a title used for married women. Jennifer Hermoso is keeping her arms in the same position as the president’s body. The president has to hold on to the players to avoid falling. It is clear that the players’ bending corresponds to Mr. X’s lifting force. Dear President, you are doing a good job.

‘The feet of Mr. Johnson were painful and swollen. The President seems to float in the air because of what the player does.

The proof is very clear. Rewrite this text in simpler words: “Mr. The President did not tell a lie.

The RFEF and Mr. Villar are being investigated for corruption. They are accused of using their positions to benefit financially and of misusing funds. The allegations include fraud, embezzlement, and bribery. The authorities are looking into their actions to determine if they broke the law. The President will show examples of the lies told by someone speaking for the player or, if necessary, by the player themselves.

The RFEF and the President will take legal action because they think the press release from the Futpro Union is very serious.

The RFEF is disappointed that they can’t celebrate the amazing success of the Soccer World Championship as it should be, due to unrelated reasons that have nothing to do with the sport.

‘No matter what, the RFEF always respects the choices of players who want to play or not for the Spanish team in international matches. However, it is noted that all federated individuals are obligated to participate if they are called upon. ’

  • FIFA suspends Spanish FA’s president Luis Rubiales

FIFA suspends Spanish FA’s president Luis Rubiales

FIFA has temporarily suspended Luis Rubiales, the leader of the Spanish Football Federation, from contacting Jenni Hermoso.

Rubiales did not quit his job during a strong meeting with reporters on Friday. Instead, he said that he is being unfairly attacked and criticized for his actions during the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday.

The 46-year-old person said sorry for touching his private parts while celebrating the 1-0 win against England. This happened in the special section for important people beside Spain’s Queen Letizia and her 16-year-old daughter Sofia.

Hermoso has said that she did not agree to be kissed on the lips by Rubiales during the World Cup final medal ceremony. The players of Spain’s national team are now refusing to play as long as Rubiales is in charge.

The Spanish Football Federation still supports its president and claims that Hermoso is not telling the truth about her conversation with Rubiales. They have warned that they may take legal action against her, as she is a World Cup winner.

But now, FIFA has gotten involved and said that Rubiales will be suspended for 90 days.

The head of the Spanish football federation says he will not quit after receiving an unwanted kiss.

Mr X will be temporarily suspended for the next 90 days while we investigate the disciplinary charges against him. The suspension starts today. Luis Rubiales spoke on Thursday, August 24th.

In simpler terms, the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee wants to protect the rights of a female soccer player on the national team. Jennifer Hermoso and the disciplinary body have issued two additional directives. These directives, referred to as article 7 FDC, give orders to Mr. [name]They are meant to ensure that the disciplinary proceedings run smoothly and in accordance with the rules. Lionesses issue statement endorsing Spain’s women’s team despite Luis Rubiales scandal

The women’s football team from England expressed have their support for the Spanish team after the controversy involving Luis Rubiales.

Rubiales, who is in charge of Spanish football, has faced a lot of criticism for kissing Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her permission after Spain won the World Cup against England.

He was supposed to resign at a special meeting called by the RFEF on Friday, but instead, he claimed that he was a victim of ‘social murder’ and ‘false feminism’ in a shocking outburst.

The 46-year-old person said the kiss happened without planning and both people agreed to it during the trophy ceremony last Sunday. However, on Friday evening, Hermoso repeated that they did not agree to the kiss at any point.

I can’t stand it when people doubt what I say, and it’s even worse when they make up things I didn’t say.

56 players, including Hermoso and her teammates who won the World Cup, made a statement together. They demanded that Rubiales be fired and said they won’t play for their country anymore unless he is removed from his job.

Many people have shown their support for the statement. Each of the Lionesses wrote their own statement on social media.

‘The text said that a sexist and male-dominated group let unacceptable actions occur. ‘

‘Abuse is wrong and we have all seen the evidence.

We should not accept the behavior of people who believe they cannot be harmed, and we should not have to convince others to stand up against harassment.

We support you, Jenni Hermoso and all the players on the Spanish team.

Spanish FA President steps down after kissing saga- Reports

The unexpected gesture by Luis Rubiales at the FIFA Women’s World Cup final has attracted significant attention. His impromptu kiss shared with forward Jennifer Hermoso during the Spanish team’s medal ceremony has triggered a flurry of responses.

Initially, Rubiales issued an apology for the kiss in a lengthy video statement on Monday.

However, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez deemed this apology “insufficient,” and Second Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz added her voice to the calls for his resignation.

Allegedly, the 46-year-old has informed his colleagues of his decision and is now poised to reveal his resignation on Friday.

Spanish football analyst Guillem Balague shared the following on Twitter:

“Rubiales will resign tomorrow. He had lost the backing of the players, the government, FIFA, and even those local organisations that depend on the federation budget.”

The Spanish FA president, upon resignation, looks set to face further disciplinary actions.

    Rubiales to face disciplinary action
Rubiales’ action was tainted by the statement of Jenni Hermoso, the former Barcelona star, who expressed that she “did not enjoy it.”

On Wednesday, Hermoso, through the FUTPRO union, released a communication about the incident:

“My FUTPRO union, in coordination with my TMJ agency, is taking charge of defending my interests and being the communication channel on this matter.”

As per information from the BBC, FIFA will also examine whether his conduct breaches Article 13 within its disciplinary regulations, which pertains to offensive behaviour and fair play.

“Fifa reiterates its unwavering commitment to respecting the integrity of all individuals and strongly condemns any behaviour to the contrary,” the football governing body said in a statement.

According to the disciplinary code, officials are among those who must “comply with the principles of fair play, loyalty, and integrity.”

It says disciplinary measures can be brought against anyone “violating the basic rules of decent conduct”, “insulting a natural or legal person in any way, especially by using offensive gestures, signs, or language,” or “behaving in a way that brings the sport of football and/or Fifa into disrepute.”

What sanction would be meted out to the FA president, who has consistently divided opinion, remains to be seen.

    Luis Rubiales under fire

A prior article by Sports Brief highlighted the scrutiny faced by Luis Rubiales, Spain’s football federation chief, for kissing attacking midfielder Jennifer Hermoso.

Amid controversy, the 46-year-old is confronted with demands for his resignation. This comes after he embraced star player Jennifer Hermoso’s head and kissed her forcefully following Spain’s 1-0 victory over England in the final held in Australia on Sunday.

FIFA begins disciplinary actions against president of the Spanish Football Association president after ‘uncalled for kiss

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has started disciplinary actions against Luis Rubiales (age 46), who serves as the president of the Spanish Football Association.

This follows his spontaneous kiss directed at Jenni Hermoso (age 33), a champion of the Women’s World Cup. The soccer governing body made this announcement on Thursday.

The incident occurred during the medal presentation ceremony after the Spanish team’s 1-0 victory over England in the final match on Sunday.

This act caused a significant outcry both within and outside of Spain. Jenni Hermoso herself expressed her views, stating that such actions should not be allowed to pass without consequences.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee informed Luis Rubiales, President of the Spanish Football Association, today that it is opening disciplinary proceedings against him based on the events that occurred during the final of the Women’s World Cup,” it said in a statement.

“The events may constitute violations of Article 13 Paragraphs 1 and 2 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”

Article 13 in the code deals with “offensive behaviour” of players and officials, particularly “violating the basic rules of decent conduct” and “behaving in a way that brings the sport into disrepute”.

Rubiales, who initially called his critics “idiots”, issued a video apology late on Monday, but it failed to quell the uproar.

Acting Second Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz called for Rubiales’ resignation because “without any doubt (he) attacked a woman“.

Spain’s women’s football league, Liga F, called for Rubiales to be dismissed and said it had lodged a complaint with the president of the National Sports Council (CSD) over his “very serious actions and behaviour.”.

Hermoso, who said after the final that she did not enjoy Rubiales’ kiss, added on Wednesday that her union, FUTPRO, and her agency, TMJ, were defending her interests in the matter.

“We are working to ensure that acts such as those we have seen never go unpunished, that they are sanctioned and that exemplary measures are adopted to protect women footballers from actions that we believe are unacceptable,” she said.

  • Jenni Hermoso disliked kiss from FA president

Jenni Hermoso disliked kiss from FA president

Spain’s star player, Jenni Hermoso, has expressed her discomfort after being kissed on the lips by the Spanish FA president, Luis Rubiales.

This incident took place as Hermoso was making her way to the podium following Spain’s victory over England in the Women’s World Cup final, thanks to Olga Carmona’s winning goal.

After receiving her medal from FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Hermoso was hugged by Mr. Rubiales, who then lifted her off her feet. Following a brief conversation, Mr. Rubiales embraced Hermoso from behind and kissed her on the lips.

The incident quickly sparked outrage on social media, with many football fans deeming Mr. Rubiales’ actions as inappropriate.

The former England international Casey Stoney tweeted: “Would he kiss a male player like this? This is NOT ok.”

Asked about the moment, Hermoso told Spanish TV network La 1: “Eh… yeah, I did not enjoy that.”

Mr Rubiales was asked about the incident, telling Radio Marca that it was merely “two people having a minor show of affection” and that he will not take notice of “idiocy,” referencing those outraged by his behaviour.

“The kiss with Jenni? There are idiots everywhere,” he said. “When two people have a minor show of affection, we can’t listen to idiocies. We are champions and that is what stays with me”.

The World Cup victory marks another milestone in the illustrious career of 33-year-old Jenni Hermoso. She has enjoyed successful stints with clubs like Atletico Madrid and Barcelona and is presently playing for the Mexican team Pachuca.

Olga Carmona’s first-half goal perfectly epitomized Spain’s stylish brand of football and ultimately proved sufficient for Spain to narrowly defeat the Lionesses in Sydney. This win allowed Spain to avenge their loss to England in last year’s European Championships quarter-finals.

Although Hermoso had a penalty saved by England’s goalkeeper Mary Earps in the second half, the Lionesses couldn’t find an equalizer, and Jorge Vilda’s team held on for the victory.
