Virgin Media’s failure leaves thousands without internet access in the UK

Following an unexpected outage, Virgin Media users across the UK are experiencing connectivity issues this morning.

There have been a growing number of reports on Twitter and the outage tracking website DownDetector.

Customers of Virgin Media who are upset claim that issues began about 2 am and that service was restored around 4 am.

But, as of 8 am, more than 28,000 people had complained that their internet was down, and it appears that the problem is still present in some areas of the nation.

The company acknowleged that there were issues ‘affecting broadband services for Virgin Media customers as well as our contact centres’ on its official Twitter account this morning.

‘Our teams are currently working to identify and fix the problem as quickly as possible and we apologise to those customers affected,’ said the tweet.

It’s unclear which areas were affected or exactly how many customers are unable to get online.

According to Downdetector reports, the majority of issues have been reported in London, followed by Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester.
