US begins investigation into emergency braking system in some Honda cars

The United States Car safety officials are looking into problems with the brakes in some Honda cars. The investigation is being carried out by officials following reports of crashes and fires.

The issue affects certain Honda cars made from 2019 to 2022. This includes the Honda Insight, which is a hybrid car, and the Honda Passport SUV. About 250,712 vehicles are involved, according to the NHTSA, which is a US safety organization for cars.

The NHTSA report says that the Office of Defects Investigation got 46 complaints. Some of these complaints were about crashes, fires, and injuries.

Per reports, the auto brake system might turn on by mistake and cause a crash, which could hurt people and damage property, says the NHTSA.

Honda has been talking to the agency about this and will work with them to investigate. They will also look into it themselves.

The first step of an NHTSA investigation looks at complaints from consumers or notices from the manufacturer to see if there might be a safety problem.
