Trump’s lawyers desire he return to testify in E.Jean Carroll sexual abuse case

Donald Trump’s lawyers said on Tuesday that the former president should have another trial and a new chance to explain to a jury why he criticized writer E.Jean Carroll accused him of sexually abusing her Five years ago.

The lawyers stated their argument again as they continued to question the $83. 3 million that Carroll was given by a Manhattan jury in January.

The amount of money that Trump has to pay Carroll has increased to $88. 3This is after another jury awarded her $5 million in May for the sexual abuse and defamation she suffered from Trump in 1996.

Judge Lewis A.Kaplan told the jury to accept what the earlier jury decided and just figure out how much money Trump needed to pay Carroll for two things he said in 2019 after parts of Carroll’s book were printed in a magazine. Carroll said that the mean things people said about her made her lose her job and made her scared for her safety because she got scary messages from people she didn’t know on the internet.

Trump didn’t go to the trial in May, but he went to the trial this year. He sat at the table for the defense and kept shaking his head and making loud grumbling noises. A prosecutor complained that the jurors could hear him.

Kaplan, who said he might not let him in the courtroom, only let the Republican frontrunner for president say a little bit. During the trial, Trump kept talking about Carroll’s claims, which gave Carroll’s lawyers more evidence to show the jurors.

“The Court made a mistake by restricting President Trump’s testimony, and that probably affected the jury’s decision. So, we need a new trial,” the lawyers said.

Trump’s lawyers said Trump should be able to say why he said what he did about Carroll.

The lawyers said that Trump had many good reasons to publicly say that Carroll’s claims were not true.

“They said it’s hard to believe that President Trump only wanted to hurt the plaintiff with his statements. They think he might have also wanted to defend himself, protect his family, and defend his presidency. ”

In 2019, Trump made fun of Carroll, saying she was completely lying to sell a book and that he had never met her, even though a photo from 1987 showed them together at a party with their spouses at the time. He said the picture was taken when he was waiting in a line. He also called Carroll crazy and said she wasn’t his type, implying she was too ugly to rape.

Carroll’s lawyer has not responded to a request for comment yet.
