Cabinet minister Dominic LeBlanc says he is not planning to run for leader of the Liberal party if Justin Trudeau steps down as Prime Minister. He wants to stop the rumors that he is trying to take over his boss’s job.
LeBlanc, who is a government minister, said in an interview that Trudeau should definitely continue to lead the Liberal party in the next election.
“I think he should be the leader for the next election,” he said.
The Globe and Mail wrote a story last month about a former Liberal minister meeting with LeBlanc to talk about him possibly running for leader if Trudeau steps down. This made people ask questions.
The article also said that LeBlanc agreed to help start a campaign while drinking whisky and smoking cigars with a group of people.
LeBlanc told Kapelos, “I talked with a friend at a friend’s house. ” “I’m not trying to become a leader right now, I’m just excited to compete in the upcoming election. ”
“The prime minister said he will be leading the party in the next election,” he said. “I’m really happy about that. ”
LeBlanc also said he thought the retired person’s nice comment was a joke. He was talking about the “friend” who suggested he should run for the leadership.
Other famous Liberals have also been rumored to want Trudeau’s job. Many people who follow politics have thought for a long time that Mark Carney, who used to be in charge of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, is interested in that too.
Despite saying no to those questions, Carney’s two public appearances last week, which happened right after the government’s new budget came out, sparked rumors about him running for leadership.
