Teenage mother to face death penalty for placing son in trash

A young person who threw her recently born baby into a machine that crushes trash after giving birth in secret is now being charged with murder and could be sentenced to death.

Jakayla Williams, who is 18 years old, told the detectives that she didn’t want a baby because it would be expensive, according to Police Chief Will Benny from Dothan, Alabama.

She explained that her family found out she had a baby only last week. So, a worried family member went with her to a nearby hospital. She told them that she left the baby with a staff member there.

The employees at the Southeast Health Medical Center contacted the police because the security cameras did not show any evidence of her being there.

The head of the police said they found out that she had given birth to a baby a week ago, on August 13th around 7:30 in the morning.

‘Around 10am or 11am, she went to a building with many apartments on the west side of Dothan and put a live baby in a machine that crushes trash,’ he said.

She said the police found the dead baby in the dumpster at a landfill. The baby was wrapped in a mattress protector and placed in a zipped bag.

She is now being accused of committing a serious crime called capital murder.

After calming down, Mr. Benny said, “I’ve never heard of something so terrible before. ” This is very surprising, and it deeply affects your thoughts and feelings.

‘I don’t really know what more to say about it. ‘

Sadly, he said that if Williams had gone to the hospital, they would have taken the baby without asking any questions based on the state’s policy.

Alabama is one of around twenty-four states where laws against abortion have been made, or where it has been made more difficult to access. In Alabama, there are people who are being punished for only helping pregnant women move from one state to another.

Russ Goodman, who is in charge of legal matters in Dothan, said that the decision about whether to ask for the death penalty is still being talked about.
