South African man sentenced for killing his girlfriend

The Durban High Court sentenced a 30-year-old man for killing his 25-year-old of girlfriend in July 2019.

On 2 July 2019, the accused Khaya Mkhize (30) went to visit the mother of his child, Philile Mbongo (25) at L Section in Umlazi. On his arrival they had a heated argument and as a result Khaya stabbed the victim several timed to the body.

The victim was declared dead at the scene and the accused was arrested. A case of murder was opened at the Bhekithemba police station for investigation. The accused made several appearances at Court. On 5 December 2019, the accused appeared in the Durban High Court and was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for murder.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the investigating officer for a quality investigation which led to the accused being convicted and sentenced.
