Following the fatal stabbing of a youngster in Bath, six males and two girls between the ages of 15 and 17 have been detained on suspicion of murder.
In the northwest Weston community, the 16-year-old boy was discovered yesterday evening with deadly injuries.
Before paramedics arrived, bystanders gave the boy first assistance, but the boy died there and then.
Additionally, a 35-year-old woman was stabbed in the incident, which happened at a residence on Eastfield Avenue.
She was sent to Royal United Hospital and afterwards released.
The eight suspects were arrested on a bus on Lansdown Lane at 11.30pm – all remain in police custody.
A police cordon has been placed around Eastfield Avenue, Avon and Somerset Police said today.
An autopsy is set to take place shortly to determine the boy’s cause of death.
Chief Inspector Ronald Lungu, of the Bath Neighbourhood Team, said: ‘This is a tragic incident and our thoughts this morning are very much with the family of the boy who has died.
‘They were informed of what happened as soon as possible and are understandably devastated.’
He added: ‘We’ve identified a number of witnesses and we’ll be taking formal statements from them in due course but we’re also keen to hear from anyone who was at the address at the time who hasn’t yet spoken to police.
