Russian attack on Ukrainian hotel kills two-month-old baby boy

A baby boy who was two months old died and his mother got hurt when a missile from Russia hit a hotel in the north-eastern part of Ukraine, according to officials.

The baby was rescued from the collapsed building in Zolochiv village, according to the governor of Kharkiv region, Oleh Synehubov.

Two more women got hurt when Russia launched two S-300 missiles. The missiles hit the hotel and buildings close by.

The area of Kharkiv has been facing more and more attacks since the end of 2023.

Zolochiv is only 20km (12 miles) from the Russian border, and Ukraine’s air defenses can’t protect it very well because it’s too close to Russia.

The missiles that hit the hotel on Tuesday were made to defend Russia’s air space, but were changed to target Ukraine on the ground. They are thought to be less expensive than better-targeted cruise missiles.

In the city of Kharkiv, a hotel was hit by missiles. Many people, including journalists, were hurt. It happened last month.

Ukrainian soldiers fought back against Russia’s attack in late December by launching a deadly assault on the city of Belgorod, which is only a short drive from the border.

In another news, Ukraine’s security service, SBU, has arrested five people suspected of being part of a Russian spy group.

The SBU said that five people, who are currently or used to work for the main intelligence and foreign intelligence agencies, were involved. They are accused of giving information to Russia’s FSB about the military, energy plants, and where US-made rockets are located.

Russia has been fighting a big war in Ukraine for almost two years, but they haven’t been winning much on the battlefield after the first few weeks.

Russian soldiers are trying really hard to take control of the town of Avdiivka in the east. They want to get to the city of Donetsk, which is controlled by Russia.

The town is almost empty and most of its buildings are destroyed.

Ukraine didn’t gain much land in their counter-attack last summer. President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is thinking about replacing some of the leaders of the country.

Many people think that he is going to remove the very liked leader of the armed forces, Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who said in November that the war was stuck and not moving forward.

If we want to be successful, we all need to be leaders and work together to achieve victory. The president told Rai TV that we must not lose hope or give up in despair.

The US government wants to give Ukraine $60 billion in aid, but some members of Congress are stopping it from happening. They are doing this because they are also trying to make a law for border security, and they have connected the two issues together.

The European Union agreed to give Ukraine 50 billion euros (about 43 billion pounds) in aid over the next four years. Josep Borrell, who is in charge of the EU’s foreign policy, visited Kyiv on Tuesday to show that the EU strongly supports Kyiv as the war approaches its third year.
