In a significant move by Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s new government to address what it deems politicized media outlets, Polish state TV channel TVP Info was taken off air.
Journalist Adrian Borecki interrupted programming to inform the audience that Polish media had been ‘taken over.’
The Parliament in Warsaw supported a resolution on Tuesday night, advocating for independence, objectivity, and pluralism in public TV and radio.
As part of these changes, the new culture minister has dismissed the heads of TVP, Polish Radio, and the Polish Press Agency.
Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki accused the new government of violating its “supposed care for the rule of law… at every step”.
