The NHS investigation has discovered three additional suspicious deaths at the hospital where a nurse was apprehended on suspicion of poisoning a baby.
A review of Birmingham Children’s Hospital was initiated due to concerns from hospital staff over a child’s deteriorating health on May 18th of the previous year.
A nurse, who is believed to be either 28 or 29 years old, was arrested the next day for suspected giving someone poison in order to harm them.
The hospital’s officials said the baby passed away on the same day.
She was let go while they checked if she did something wrong. However, she couldn’t go back to work.
The Sunday Times reported that she is still being investigated this weekend. She is not allowed to work and the regulator has also suspended her, which means she cannot work as a nurse anywhere else.
According to official records, the newspaper states that three children passed away with out warning or explanation.
The NHS trust told the police about the results and also told the families of the dead people.
A doctor from the trust said that a child in the intensive care unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital got worse very quickly and without warning in May 2022.
Because of the worsening situation, the trust took prompt action.
A staff member was sent home from work and later taken into custody by the police. Unfortunately, the child passed away and we are thinking of the family during this difficult time.
She said: ‘The trust followed the usual safety procedures for when a child dies unexpectedly, and the West Midlands Police were informed on the same day.
Doctors at the hospital have carefully studied and reviewed cases of children who have died or suddenly got worse while in the pediatric intensive care unit.
‘Other experts checked their findings and gave them to the police. ’
