Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised on Tuesday to send troops into the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Many Palestinians have been staying there to escape the war that has been going on for seven months.
Netanyahu said Israel will go into Rafah to destroy Hamas’ groups there, with or without an agreement. Israel and Hamas are talking about a ceasefire deal to free hostages and help the Palestinians in the area.
“We can’t consider stopping the war until we achieve all of our goals. ” We will go into Rafah and defeat the groups of fighters from Hamas, no matter what. Netanyahu said this in a meeting with families of the hostages in Gaza.
Netanyahu promised to win the war completely and is under pressure from his nationalist partners to attack Rafah, which Israel claims is a major place where Hamas is strong.
People are feeling more hopeful that an agreement could be reached to stop Israel from entering Rafah, where over half of Gaza’s 2. 3 million people are seeking shelter.
Countries around the world, including Israel’s close friend, the US, are worried about what might happen to civilians in Rafah if Israel attacks.
Netanyahu has refused to stop the war in exchange for releasing hostages. He believes that it is important to attack Rafah in order to defeat the militants who attacked Israel on Oct 7. If he agrees to a deal, his government might be in danger because some strong-minded members of his Cabinet want to attack Rafah.
