A mother from Aberdeen and her little son passed away in a fire accident in India.
Dr Glory Valthaty, who is 43 years old, and Joshua, who is eight years old, were visiting their family when a fire started in an apartment in Mumbai on Monday morning.
Dr Valthaty’s husband and daughter were believed to have been on the vacation too.
Joshua was a student at Kaimhill School in Aberdeen. His headteacher, Susie Webster, said he was well-liked by his classmates.
Ms Webster said: “We are very sad that the Kaimhill School and the wider community have learned the shocking news that Joshua and his mom, Glory, have passed away.
Joshua started at Kaimhill Nursery in September 2020 and made friends with everyone in his class. He was liked by all the teachers and students in the school.
We are thinking about his family and praying for them during this tough time.
Mumbai is a city in India.
She said, “We also remember Joshua’s friends as they go back to school on Monday and want to let everyone know that we will continue to help them. ”
Dr Valthaty was the director of a company called Faith Project Consultants Ltd. The company is registered in Dundee.
The family is thought to have been living in an apartment owned by Dr. Valthaty’s brother, who used to play cricket in the Indian Premier League, named Paul Valthaty.
A spokesperson from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said: “We are helping the family of two British people who passed away in Mumbai. ”
Dr Valthaty worked with NHS Grampian while learning about giving anesthesia at first, and he stopped working there in 2018.
One of my friends wrote on social media: “Glory was a really good friend to me and a great daughter, sister, wife, mother, and doctor. ”
Another post mentioned that people were grieving the sudden death of the mother and her son.
“The post stated that you, Glory, will forever be remembered for your bright and happy smile. ”
