Rapper MoneySign Suede was slain after being stabbed in a California prison’s shower.
Nicholas Rosenberg, the musician’s attorney, announced on Thursday that the 22-year-old, whose true name was Jaime Brugada Valdez, had passed away in the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad.
They reported that a neck stabbing occurred. According to Rosenberg, they claimed to be looking into it.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a statement that Valdez was found shortly before 10pm on Tuesday in the shower area, according to AP.
Officials added Valdez was found ‘with injuries consistent with a homicide’ and said that an investigation was underway by the prison’s Investigative Services Unit and the Monterey County district attorney’s office.
TMZ reported that prison personnel attempted to administer emergency aid but were unsuccessful.
The alarm was first raised when Valdez was absent from a headcount check at around 9.55pm, the outlet added.
Valdez was serving a 32-month sentence on two charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun in Riverside County.
He was also facing further gun charges in Los Angeles County.
Valdez signed to Atlantic Records in 2021, which is also the record label home to Ed Sheeran and Led Zeppelin.
His songs included Back to the Bag, No Love, Whole Time and I’m Back.
