While their 11-year-old kid slept upstairs in their family home, a man has admitted killing his schoolteacher wife.
At Derby Crown Court, Conrad Iyayi was on trial for the murder of his wife Kathryn, also known as Katy Harris, after admitting manslaughter.
But today, on the second day of the court, the 46-year-old admitted to killing his wife by stabbing her seven times in the chest on February 6, 2013, at their house in Littleover, Derby’s Oak Crescent.
On August 18, he will get his punishment in the same court.
Mr. Iyayi’s lawyer, Amjad Malik KC, informed the court of his client’s decision and stated: “Yesterday afternoon, when court closed, I went to meet Mr. Iyayi and he indicated what he wants to do. This morning, I have gone through the process with him.
The jury has been kept waiting for a good reason because Mr. Iyayi wants to enter a guilty plea to murder.
‘It is difficult for a defendant to come to the conclusion that they have done something as massive as committing a crime as serious as murder, which you would have been told entails an intention to kill,’ the judge added after thanking the jury for their service.
It might sometimes be difficult to accept what you have done.
