Lockdown at Eurotunnel as bomb squad summoned over ‘suspicious vehicle’

Following the closure of the Eurotunnel, a specialized explosive team has been summoned to investigate an unusual vehicle.

The police have caught a potential criminal and they have blocked off the area to keep it secure. The incident is not related to the current search for the suspected terrorist Daniel Khalife.

A representative from Kent Police said that on Friday 8 September 2023, a strange car was stopped at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Cheriton around 10:30 am.

The British Army has sent experts in explosives to the location. For the safety of the public, an area has been blocked off. This is currently affecting traffic going towards the terminal.
A man has been captured in relation to the event, and investigations are still happening.

The police haven’t given any more information about the suspect yet. Kent Police says they are still investigating.

The incident has led to very long lines on the way to the terminal, and services are currently not running in Folkestone.

Shuttle services are temporarily stopped while emergency services handle the situation.

A person who speaks for Eurotunnel, which is now called LeShuttle, has said that travel will be greatly affected and suggested that customers should check their website for more information.

The spokesperson said that a suspicious car was stopped at the Channel Tunnel Terminal in Folkestone during a regular security check.

The police in Kent are handling the situation with the help of specialized officers. Access to the Folkestone terminal is currently stopped because the police are dealing with a situation.

Some people who were traveling have been moved to boat services in the nearby town of Dover. Right now, the shuttles that are coming are running on schedule and the Eurostar train services from Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam are not being affected.
