Public Kan Radio says that Israeli air strikes are targeting Khan Younis because they think top Hamas leaders, like Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif, are hiding there. Yahya Sinwar is the leader of Hamas in Gaza and Mohammed Deif leads the military.
According to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, the fighting in Khan Younis is expected to be very difficult. The situation is complicated because there are a lot of Palestinians who had to leave their homes in the north and are now living there. There may also be Israeli hostages in the area.
