It is obvious that people are hesitant because the US has warned about how hard it will be to enter Gaza.
Here is a simplified version of the text: One example of a challenging fight in a city is the effort to remove IS from Mosul, Iraq in 2017.
I was present and I witnessed a big group of skilled Iraqi soldiers, who had received extensive training from the Americans. They were supported by the US air force, the RAF, and other western special forces. Their operation had to go from one house to another, one after another.
It took many months – and lots of regular people were killed during that time.
Israel is worried because there are hostages in Gaza right now, and that’s another reason why they are hesitant. Hamas is trying to be clever by releasing some hostages and making it seem like there is a way to get them out safely.
If Israel had acted fast, the strong force behind it might not have grown as much as it has now.
For instance, one of the top newspapers in Israel, called Haaretz, which usually criticizes the Israeli government, stated in its main article yesterday that there should be no use of military force when there are people being held captive in Gaza.
But I talked to Ehud Barak, who used to be the prime minister and leader of the Israeli army. He said that we may have to make tough decisions because we cannot allow Hamas to escape the consequences for their actions. He was basically saying that the Israelis might have to proceed.
The current Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is known for being indecisive when it comes to tough decisions, despite his strong words.
