Former student-sexting teacher is now employed by a university

At the University of Bristol, a teacher who was barred from the profession after sending sexually explicit texts to a youngster at a boys’ grammar school is currently employed.

After sharing images of meeting Prince William and Princess Kate during the royals’ official visit to the Islands of Scilly, Lindsey Bauer, 46, is now pursuing a Doctorate and working as a part-time university instructor.

Ms. Bauer was judged to have “abused her teaching position” while working at Colyton Grammar School in Exeter, according to the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA).

The allegations took place between 2018 and 2022 and included ‘making inappropriate advances, suggesting face-to-face meetings and communicating with the student without good reason on matters that did not relate to the curriculum’.

A teacher banned from the profession after sending sexual texts to a student at a boys' grammar school in Exeter is now working at the University of Bristol. Lindsey Bauer, who once shared pictures of meeting Prince William and Princess Kate in 2016 during an official visit by the royals to the Isles of Scilly is now studying for a PhD and teaching part-time at the university. The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), which investigates complaints against teachers in schools, found that Ms Bauer had abused her teaching position during private communications with a student while at Colyton Grammar School in Exeter.

The TRA found that ‘Mrs Bauer was guilty of unacceptable professional conduct and conduct that may bring the profession into disrepute’.

The panel found that her communications with the student were ‘sexually motivated’.

Ms Bauer denied the actions were sexually motivated, but the panel stated the allegations were proven and recommended an ‘indefinite ban’.

In May last year, she was banned from teaching for at least five years by the TRA, but the report and outcome was only released on March 1 this year.

The ban does not cover work at universities.

A spokesperson for the University of Bristol said: ‘We can confirm that Lindsey Bauer has discussed the misconduct panel outcome with us.

‘She is a PhD student here and, as is common practice for postgraduate students, she also has a part-time teaching assistant role within the university.’

It was reported that Ms Bauer, an Oxford graduate, had successfully put a court order in place preventing certain information from being published, but that this was later overturned.

Colyton Grammar said that the investigation had been started by the school and that a former employee had received a prohibition order from the TRA.
