Father of 12-year-old child murdered while crossing M62 admits manslaughter

The father of a 12-year-old disabled boy who died after being hit by a car on the M62 has admitted to causing his death.

Callum Rycroft got hit by a Toyota on the side of the road going east on August 5th.

He was trying to get from the middle of the road to the side of the road when he got hit on the part of the road between junctions 25 and 26, close to Bradford.

A person who speaks for the Crown Prosecution Service said that Callum’s father, Martin Rycroft, had been drinking all day while visiting his parents in Huddersfield.

Rycroft’s parents told him not to drive, but he didn’t listen and went away in his car with his son, according to the spokesperson.

They said: ‘His parents called him and asked him to stop driving, but he ignored them. ‘

Callum was overheard saying, “Dad. won’t quit” in the distance. They also followed him, but Rycroft didn’t pay attention to them. His Audi was seen driving badly in Huddersfield and then got onto the M62 at junction 25.

He was able to get off the highway at Hartshead Moor services, but he crashed into a curb and the vehicle flipped over because he couldn’t navigate a sharp turn.

The CPS said the two people started walking towards the main road. They said that Callum called his mom and dialed 999, but Rycroft told him to hang up the call.

‘They were observed crossing the highway towards the middle area, and then for some unknown reason attempted to run back. ‘

Callum died right away when a car hit him, and his body was discovered on the side of the road where cars were traveling towards the west.

Today, Rycroft admitted to causing someone’s death and driving dangerously in a court in Leeds.

He also admitted that he did not give a breath sample at Leeds General Infirmary after the event.

In a message from the police in West Yorkshire, Callum’s mom said: “Callum was a lovely, cheerful person who was one-of-a-kind, really fun, and had a big personality. ” He made the room bright, happy, and loud.

‘Callum greatly affected everyone he met. ‘ The house is very silent when he is not here.

We are extremely upset about what happened and we kindly ask that people give us space and time to deal with this difficult situation.

‘We appreciate the support and nice comments we have received. ‘

Tom Neofytou from the CPS said that Callum’s father acted carelessly and criminally, causing Callum to suffer greatly. Now, the rest of Callum’s family is left to grieve for his loss.

We feel very sorry for them.

Rycroft will stay in jail until a sentencing date, which won’t happen before September 19.
