Ex-partner of Meloni loses TV show due to vulgar comments

Andrea Giambruno, who was once in a relationship with Georgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, has been removed as the host of a national TV show because offensive comments he made were secretly recorded and shown on another program.

TV company Mediaset announced that they would keep their role in controlling the content of the show.

Last week, Ms Meloni said that she and her partner are breaking up because a funny TV show played a recording.

The family of Silvio Berlusconi, who was a former prime minister, owns Mediaset.

Last week, Striscia La Notizia, a TV show, aired a secret recording of Giambruno talking to female coworkers about a romantic relationship he was involved in. He also seemed to suggest involving multiple people in a sexual encounter.

Mediaset said Giambruno apologized for causing embarrassment and discomfort with his behavior. They also mentioned that he agreed to step down from his position on the Diario del giorno show on Mediaset’s channel Rete4.

The statement said that the ex-host will not be punished.

For now, journalist Manuela Boselli is taking over the presenting role from Gambruno.

Italian news sources have suggested that the disputes caused by Giambruno’s leaked comments are adding to the conflicts within the Meloni administration. Forza Italia, a party started by Berlusconi, is one of three parties in Meloni’s right-leaning group. Pier Silvio Berlusconi, the oldest son of the former prime minister, is in charge of Mediaset.

Both the family and Forza Italia say they are not involved in leaking the remarks, which have made Georgia Meloni feel embarrassed. She became the leader in October last year.

Antonio Tajani, the Deputy Prime Minister who took over as party leader after Silvio Berlusconi’s death last June, has stated that the Berlusconi family was shocked and regretful about what happened after the report was shown on Mediaset. However, he emphasized that the people responsible for the incident are not related to the family.

Last week, Ms Meloni said that she and Giambruno, who is 41 years old, broke up after being together for almost 10 years. The couple got together in 2015 and now have a daughter named Ginevra, who is seven years old.

The leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party, who is the prime minister of Italy, strongly believes in traditional Catholic family values. In the past, she has expressed the opinion that a child should have both a mother and a father.

Antonio Ricci, the person in charge of Striscia La Notizia, said to Ansa news agency before that Ms Meloni will eventually realize that he has done something good for her.

According to Ansa, Giambruno’s coworkers said he liked to make jokes about his relationship with the prime minister. The agency said more embarrassing recordings might come out.
