At the White House Easter Egg Roll, President Joseph Biden casually announced he would be seeking reelection in 2024.
Al Roker, co-host of NBC’s Today show, questioned Biden on the South Lawn on Monday morning about whether he would continue to participate in Easter Egg Rolls beyond 2024.
Biden stated, “I plan on, at least three or four more Easter Egg Rolls.”
“Maybe five.
maybe six, who cares!
Roker asked Biden to ‘help a brother out, make some news for me’.
Biden appears to confirm that he will run for presidential re-election in 2024
‘I plan on running, Al,’ Biden replied. ‘But we’re not ready to announce yet.’
It was not the first time that Biden, 80, has said he plans on launching a 2024 bid. He has said for months that he plans to pursue a second term.
He stood next to First Lady Jill Biden, who in late February had given one of the clearest indications that her husband would be running.
‘How many times does he have to say it for you to believe it?’ the first lady told AP at the time. ‘He says he’s not done. He’s not finished what he’s started. And that’s what’s important.’
She added that there was ‘pretty much’ nothing left to do but decide on a time and place for his announcement.
Top White House advisers are working on the final decisions on launching Biden’s re-election campaign, several unnamed sources told NBC News on Monday. However, Biden has reportedly been delaying his announcement past the timelines his team has set.
One longtime adviser told NBC News that Biden’s delaying preserves the option for him not to run.
Biden’s planned announcement hangs as no major Democratic challenger has emerged. In addition, his predecessor Donald Trump has been on headlines across the world with his indictment in a hush money case last week. Trump’s campaign has said they have received more than $12million in donations since his indictment.
At the Easter Egg Roll, Biden made brief remarks to more than 30,000 guests partaking in the festivities and said what he has often uttered.
‘Anything’s possible in America if we remember who we are and we do it together,’ he said.
