Police claim that a one-year-old girl was shot and killed by her elder sibling.
A three-year-old toddler discovered the unlocked firearm at a home in Fallbrook, a county north of San Diego, at 7.30am local time yesterday, according to US authorities.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, when deputies arrived, they discovered the youngster suffering from a “head injury” and took her immediately to Palomar Hospital.
Sadly, the girl could not be saved and died an hour later.
Further details about the shooting are currently scant.
It is not yet known who reported the shooting or where the children’s parents were at the time.
The girl’s name has also not been released by the homicide unit who have launched an investigation.
