Biden to unveil plans for temporary relief port on Gaza’s shore

The U.S. military, according to the Biden administration, will create a temporary port on Gaza’s coast. This is part of an international effort to bring food and other help to Palestinian people who are in need. They can’t get help because of the war and Israeli rules that make it hard for humanitarian aid to get through.

The statement shows that the United States is getting more involved in something. President Joe Biden is under pressure to do more to help the 2. 3 million people in Gaza who are facing near-famine conditions because of the fighting in the region.

The government tried to find a different way to help Gaza after asking Israel for a long time to let trucks bring humanitarian supplies into the area.

Currently, hopes for a ceasefire before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan seem to have stopped. Ramadan is starting soon. Hamas said its group had left Cairo where they were having meetings. The plan for the ceasefire would have included giving a lot of help to the people in Gaza.

The UN says that the people of Gaza are in a big crisis because they don’t have enough food. This is because of the war and because Israeli aid trucks can’t bring enough food to the people. Doctors in northern Gaza said that 15 children have died from not having enough food, and six more children are very close to dying. At a meeting, the U. Surged the Israel Ambassador, Michael Herzog, to allow more aid trucks to access and provide security in the country. Samantha Power, who is in charge of helping other countries, said that Gaza is in danger of not having enough food to eat.

Israel says that Hamas took control of some of the aid that was supposed to be delivered.

The United States Government workers, who did not want to be named, talked about Biden’s plan before his speech. They said that the operation will not need troops to go to Cyprus and build a pier. The pier will help bring more food, medicine, and other important things to the country. They didn’t give many details right away, including how many people were involved. soldiers would be involved.

America Authorities stated that it will probably be a few weeks before the pier is ready to use.

One idea being looked at is for the military to use a floating pier called a JLOTS, or Joint Logistics-Over-the-Shore. An official who didn’t want to give their name said that they wanted to talk about the choices before a decision is made. The big pier that floats allows supplies to be brought without needing a fixed dock, which means troops don’t have to be on the shore. Boats can sail to the pier and use anchors to stay in place.

The person who speaks for the Defense Department, Major General. Pat Ryder said on Thursday in a statement that the U.S Government workers and other countries were considering using private companies and workers to help with the delivery.

Government officials from the United States, Europe, Israel, and the Middle East have been talking about and getting ready to possibly open a sea route.

Charity groups are having a hard time getting essential supplies to Gaza because it’s tough to work with the Israeli military, there’s still fighting, and the situation is out of control. It is very hard to get help to the remote north.

The United Arab Emirates is working with a chef named Jose Andres and his organization, World Central Kitchen, to send food by sea. They are finalizing all the details and the timing for the deliveries.

officials said on Monday Egypt had blocked the humanitarian convoy in the beginning in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. The officials said Egypt had agreed to let the convoy enter but only if it was inspected in a crossing point in the northern Sinai. The official said a high State Department official had asked the Egyptian government to weigh humanitarian needs and let the convoy pass. Administration officials said that Biden has instructed them to provide humanitarian aid to Israelis without waiting.

Sigrid Kaag, a UN leader for helping Gaza, said that sending supplies by air and sea is not enough. It is important to also have more ways to get supplies on the land, which is the best solution.

The Biden administration is finding new ways to get aid into Gaza without using Israel. They are using airdrops to deliver the aid, which started last week.

Biden has been a very important supporter of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attack on Hamas in October. There were 7 attacks in Israel. This means giving bombs and other weapons to Israel and stopping any attempts to criticize Israel at the United Nations for the increasing number of deaths of innocent people in Gaza.

Administration officials are annoyed with Netanyahu because they feel like he is not taking much notice of the U. SIsrael is being asked to do more to stop civilians from getting hurt and to let in humanitarian aid.

The World Food Program says that in February, only 99 aid trucks entered Gaza each day, which is one-fifth of the amount needed.

Brian Finucane, who used to work for the State Department and now works for the International Crisis Group, said that this is a costly and not very effective way to fix a problem that has simpler solutions. An announcement about a temporary port and a sea route for wartime.

“It’s another sign that the way the war in Gaza is being handled is not good. ” The Biden administration doesn’t want to use U. SFinucane said that Netanyahu is trying to use power, either on his own or with others, to control how the war is carried out.

The Biden administration faced more pressure last week after reports of over 100 people being killed during an aid delivery in isolated north Gaza. Israel’s soldiers shot warnings when people in the crowd started to approach them. People who saw what happened and medical workers told The Associated Press that most of the people who got hurt were shot by Israeli forces when they fired into the crowds of hungry people.

International helpers wanted to make things better by stopping fighting for six weeks. During this time, they wanted Hamas to let go of some Israeli hostages, Israel to let go of some Palestinian prisoners, and aid groups to give help to Gaza.

It is believed that Palestinian fighters have about 100 people they have captured and are keeping as prisoners. They also have the bodies of 30 other people who were captured during a Hamas attack in October.

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said in November that aid could be sent to the Palestinian area from Cyprus using the port in Larnaca, which is 230 miles away.

Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Union Commission, was going to Larnaca on Friday to look at some buildings.

Cyprus asked leaders from Israel and the U. Sto come early. Cypriot agents are checking all shipments to make sure Hamas can’t use them against Israel, and they want other European countries to help.
