Biden in the spotlight over his age

It was a big report about politics that caused a lot of controversy.

The fireworks came out on Thursday when special counsel Robert Hur revealed his investigation findings about how Joe Biden handled secret documents after he stopped being vice president in 2017.

The main finding was that the president won’t be charged with a crime even though there’s proof that he knowingly kept and shared secret information. when he was not working for the government.

The end result was worse. Hur decided not to take the 81-year-old president to court because he thought a jury would feel sorry for him. They might see him as a kind old man with a bad memory.

Concerns about Joe Biden’s age and ability to serve another four years as president have been around for as long as he has been in the White House. This new discovery will give the Republican party more reasons to criticize him and will also worry some Democrats who think he may not be capable of doing the job.

Chris Borick, the director of the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion, said that the Biden campaign is really trying hard to deal with this story.

“Repeated polling shows that many voters believe he is too old to run, which could be his biggest problem in this election,” he says.

So, the Hur report made the White House very angry. The president had a sudden press conference to say that his memory is still good.

Additionally, the special counsel showed proof to support this claim. He said that in two days of interviews, Mr. Biden often couldn’t remember important details related to the investigation. Mr Hur also said that he had a hard time remembering when he was vice-president and when his oldest son, Beau Biden, passed away from cancer.

The president got mad during his press conference on Thursday evening because of this claim.

The press conference could make the attacks on Mr. Biden stronger This is because the president made a mistake and called the Egyptian President the president of Mexico when he was asked about the Gaza War.

That mistake, like other mistakes Mr. Biden has made recently, shows how hard it will be for him to win re-election. The president can show that he is still energetic and capable by working really hard during his campaign and being seen by the public more often. But trying to solve the problem might make it worse.

The White House has tried other ways to make the Hur report less powerful. Joe Biden’s lawyer, Richard Sauber, asked the special counsel to remove any mention of Biden’s mental sharpness and mistakes because he believed it was not true or suitable.

Mr Biden said he talked to the special lawyer for two days shortly after the 7 October attack by Hamas on Israel, even though he was busy with an international crisis at the time.

Other people who support Biden are questioning if Mr. Hur can be fair because he was chosen for his job by Donald Trump in 2017. Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland chose Mr Hur to be the special counsel.

The Biden team has been fast to criticize the mistakes Donald Trump makes when he speaks. The old president got mixed up and thought his main competitor Nikki Haley was actually former Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He also mistakenly thought Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was the leader of Turkey.

The White House may be lucky that this problem happened in February, nine months before the election.

Larry Sabato, who leads the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, says people are worried about how old Mr. Biden is, but it won’t ruin his chances of winning. The report is bad, but not too terrible.

He says people will see it and raise one eyebrow, not both. “Because people already kind of knew this. He says that even if you only watch a little bit of his speech, you can still understand what he is talking about.

When American voters finally vote, they will care more about the economy and abortion than the special report that said Mr. Biden didn’t do anything wrong.
