Baby girl pulled alive from Gaza rubble after Israeli air strike

In a remarkable rescue operation in Rafah, southern Gaza, rescuers pulled a baby girl named Mariam Abu Akel alive from the rubble following an Israeli air strike.

People on the scene used their hands to free Mariam from the debris, and a rescuer swiftly transported her to a nearby hospital, where doctors attended to her cuts.

Tragically, Mariam had been sheltering in a house with her family during the air strike, which claimed the lives of her mother and sister. Fortunately, her father and young brother survived the incident.

The same air strike resulted in the death of 20 people and left 55 others injured, according to a spokesperson from the Hamas-run health ministry.

The ongoing conflict has led to more than 21,500 casualties, predominantly children and women, in Israeli retaliatory attacks on Gaza.

Many are still believed to be trapped under the wreckage of buildings destroyed by air and artillery strikes.

Israel initiated its military campaign in Gaza in response to a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, causing widespread casualties and hostage situations.
