At least 10 persons allegedly dead as trains collide in southeast India

Reuters reports that on Sunday, two trains crashed in southeast India, resulting in the death of at least 10 individuals and causing injuries to 27 others.

A train was stopped because of a problem with an overhead cable. Another train hit it while coming towards it. This happened in the Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, according to a senior railway official.

The crash caused two train cars to come off the tracks. The cars had more than 90 people inside. This information was given by an official to Reuters.

Initial investigation indicates that the stationary train caused the collision due to a mistake made by the operator who went beyond the designated signal. This statement was made by the railway ministry of the country.

On Sunday, two trains crashed into each other. This happened only four months after another train accident in Odisha, where three trains collided. That accident caused the death of 275 people and injured over 1,000 others.

Rescue teams are currently helping at the place where the accident happened, and all of the hurt people have been taken to hospitals, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on X.

The Office of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh said on X that they have asked officials to take fast actions to help injured people get quick medical care. They also advised nearby districts to send emergency responders to the place.

The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, talked to Vaishnaw about the accident, as announced by his office on Sunday.

The government is helping the people who were affected as much as they can, as stated in the post on X. “The Prime Minister sends his sympathies to the families who have lost loved ones and hopes for a quick recovery for those who were hurt. ”
