Four children were killed and at least three others were hurt as a guy in Brazil “climbed the walls” of a nursery while carrying a hatchet.
The fatalities in Blumenau, a city in southern Brazil, were confirmed by the governor of Santa Catarina state, Jorginho Mello.
He tweeted that the murderer had been apprehended.
Firefighters also reported that the man used a hatchet to attack the kids, and that three kids from a nursery school were rushed to the hospital.
Police and terrified pupils at the school in Blumenau, southern Brazil where the attack happened.
Photos and video showed weeping parents outside of the private daycare centre, named Cantinho do Bom Pastor.
Local media reported the attacker scaled a wall to enter the nursery wielding a hatchet.
It has been reported that the killer, said to be Luiz de Lima, 25, handed himself into police after the attack.
According to O Municipio Blumenau, de Lima was a Bolsonaro supporter who attacked the children in the car park of the nursery.
School attacks in Brazil had been uncommon but have begun happening with greater frequency in recent years.
Last week, a student in Sao Paulo stabbed a teacher, killing her, and also wounded several others in the city.
Mr Mello wrote on Twitter: ‘May God comfort the hearts of all families in this moment of deep pain.’
Blumenau, a city of 366,000 people, is famous for its annual Oktoberfest festival.
