After a fall on Skye, a ‘seasoned’ 80-year-old hillwalker passed away.
At about 3.05 pm on Wednesday, police were alerted to a report of a man falling at Coire a’ Bhasteir.
Skye Mountain Rescue team and other emergency services were contacted.
Unfortunately, the individual was declared deceased at the spot.
‘On Wednesday afternoon, the crew reacted to a report of a fallen climber in Coire a’ Bhasteir,’ the mountain rescue team wrote in a Facebook post.
“Unfortunately, the experienced male suffered fatal injuries.
Twenty mountain rescue workers, the R948 rescue helicopter from Stornoway, as well as a few onlooker climbers all helped remove the body from the mountain.
We send our condolences to the climber’s loved ones.
Police in Scotland stated that nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
‘Officers received a report of a male having fallen at Coire a’ Bhasteir on the Isle of Skye at 3.05 pm on July 26, 2023,’ they stated.
After emergency personnel arrived, an 80-year-old man was declared dead there.
“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal,” the statement reads. “There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
