A bus in Italy crashed off a high street near Venice, causing the deaths of at least 20 people and injuring others, as confirmed by authorities.
The accident occurred in Mestre, which is a neighborhood near Venice.
The Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, said: ‘Something very sad and terrible happened to our community tonight. ‘ I have no words to say.
Local news sources reported that the bus fell a short distance before crashing near Mestre’s railway tracks. The bus then caught fire.
A crane helped lift a tourist bus that fell from a bridge in Venice. Sadly, at least 21 people died in the accident.
Emergency workers were at the location.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her sadness and regrets after the crash.
The bus was taking Eastern European tourists back to their hotel in Marghera, which was very close to where the crash happened.
It turns out that many of the people on the boat were Ukrainians going to a nearby place where they were staying.
The Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, said that a bus fell 30 meters and caught fire. The situation was made worse because the bus was powered by biomethane.
After the crash, forty ambulance cars were sent to the location. The Venice railway line was closed for a short time, but it is now open again.
