18-year-old girl killed and four others hurt in car accident on A13

A collision on a dual highway close to Essex resulted in the death of a teenage girl and the injuries of four other individuals.

Following the accident on the A13, where two passengers inside the car were left fighting for their lives, police are looking for witnesses.

‘Serious’ incident occurred on the Pitsea overpass in Basildon on Saturday just before 2.30 p.m., according to Essex Police.

An 18-year-old woman who was a passenger died at the scene, while the four other people injured were taken to hospital where they remain.

Two of them are in a critical condition, the force said.

The road below the flyover had to be temporarily closed due to concerns about falling debris and the A13 remained shut until 11pm on Saturday.

Three air ambulances were called to the scene.

Det Sgt Sam Nason, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘This was a tragic collision and our thoughts are with those involved.

‘We are continuing multiple enquiries this morning including speaking with witnesses and reviewing CCTV and dashcam.

‘We believe there were a number of witnesses, many of whom helped those involved.

‘We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or have any CCTV or dashcam to get in contact.’
