  • African Trade Ministers to meet over Trump’s tariffs on April 14

African Trade Ministers to meet over Trump’s tariffs on April 14

African trade ministers will convene on April 14 to deliberate on a new U.S. tariff policy introduced by President Donald Trump that threatens to reshape global trade dynamics.

The policy imposes a blanket 10 percent tariff on imports from over 100 nations a move that could place significant pressure on African exporters.

The upcoming summit will assemble a coalition of trade experts, government officials, economists, and regional blocs to examine the policy’s implications and strategize Africa’s collective response.

Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), addressing journalists from Washington, D.C., cautioned that Africa must not remain passive in the face of such sweeping trade realignments.

“This isn’t just a U.S. policy shift; it’s a signal that Africa must tighten its economic foundation,” Mene said. “We can’t afford to be caught off guard. We must respond with urgency and unity.”

The tariff, expected to affect a broad range of African exports — from agricultural products and raw materials to textiles and manufactured goods — raises concerns about the future of Africa’s trade relationships with the U.S., especially under existing frameworks like the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

Mene noted that the real challenge lies not in reacting to protectionist policies, but in preparing for them.

“We should treat this as a turning point,” he said. “Rather than depend on uncertain access to distant markets, we must create reliable trade systems among ourselves. This is a pivotal moment for AfCFTA to move beyond ambition and into full implementation.”

While the U.S. policy is likely to affect several global partners, African nations—many of which rely on export-led growth—could face the harshest consequences if timely measures are not adopted.

In anticipation of those impacts, the April 14 meeting will explore policy alternatives, trade diversification, and accelerated continental integration to ensure African economies remain resilient amid rising global protectionism.

“Africa must now define its own trade future,” Mene emphasized. “And we must do so together.”

  • Ghana hit by 10% import tax as Trump reveals new tariffs

Ghana hit by 10% import tax as Trump reveals new tariffs

United States of America (USA) President Donald Trump has announced sweeping tariff hikes, including a 10% import tax on goods from Ghana.

The new measures, which also impose a 34% levy on Chinese imports and a 20% tariff on European Union goods, mark a significant escalation in trade tensions.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, Trump framed the tariffs as a necessary response to decades of economic imbalance, declaring a national economic emergency.

“Our country has been looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered by other nations,” Trump asserted. “Taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years. But that will not happen anymore.”

Invoking the 1977 International Emergency Powers Act, Trump bypassed Congress to implement the tariffs unilaterally. Countries with large trade surpluses with the U.S., including Ghana, will face a uniform 10% import tax, a move that could disrupt supply chains and economic relations worldwide.

The announcement has already triggered turmoil in financial markets, with investors anticipating inflationary pressures and an economic slowdown. Analysts warn that higher import costs on essential goods—ranging from automobiles to textiles—could have ripple effects across industries.

Olu Sonola of Fitch Ratings cautioned that the average U.S. tariff rate will surge from 2.5% in 2024 to 22%, heightening fears of a global downturn.

“Many countries will likely fall into a recession,” Sonola warned. “If these tariff levels remain for an extended period, most economic forecasts will need to be revised drastically.”

Economists have drawn comparisons between Trump’s tariffs and the notorious Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, which deepened the Great Depression by igniting a worldwide trade war.

Trade analysts Scott Lincicome and Colin Grabow of the Cato Institute have cautioned that history could repeat itself.

“With today’s announcement, U.S. tariffs will reach levels not seen since the Smoot-Hawley Act, which contributed to the global economic downturn during the Great Depression,” they noted.

Trump’s aggressive trade strategy has sparked backlash from key trading partners, many of whom are preparing countermeasures. While Canada and Mexico remain exempt under the USMCA trade deal, China faces compounded tariffs, including a 34% general tax and a 20% penalty related to fentanyl production.

The European Union and other affected nations, including Ghana, are expected to respond with retaliatory tariffs, further fueling economic uncertainty.

Despite opposition from lawmakers—particularly those representing U.S. agricultural and industrial sectors—the White House has shown no signs of reversing course. Trump remains defiant, insisting that the tariffs will generate significant revenue and restore fairness in global trade.

As developing economies like Ghana brace for the economic fallout, concerns grow over the long-term impact of these policies on trade-dependent nations.

Ghana’s trade balance as of February 2025

Ghana’s Gross International Reserves reached $9.4 billion by the end of February 2025, aligning with the target set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), data from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) reveals.

This level of reserves was sufficient to cover 4.2 months of imports, reflecting an increase from $8.89 billion in December 2024, which covered four months.

The country recorded a trade surplus of $1.64 billion in the first two months of 2025, equivalent to 1.9% of GDP. The surplus played a crucial role in the steady buildup of foreign reserves.

Total exports experienced significant year-on-year growth of 50.0%, reaching $4.3 billion. This was largely driven by rising gold and cocoa exports, supported by increasing prices and higher production volumes.

However, crude oil exports declined due to reduced output from Ghana’s three operational oil fields. Imports also recorded a 7.3% year-on-year increase, amounting to $2.7 billion.

Ghana’s key export commodities showed mixed performances in the global market in early 2025.

  • Trump, Zelensky clash at White House over Russia-Ukraine war

Trump, Zelensky clash at White House over Russia-Ukraine war

A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House took a tense turn as the two leaders clashed over Ukraine’s approach to peace talks with Russia.

During the Oval Office discussion, Trump made it clear that continued American support was contingent on Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate. “Make a deal or we’re out,” he warned, hinting at a potential shift in U.S. policy regarding the ongoing war.

He also accused Zelensky of “gambling with World War Three” and suggested that Ukraine should show more appreciation for the aid it has received from the United States.

Zelensky, however, pushed back, maintaining that Ukraine “should not compromise” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, standing firm against any forced settlement.

The talks ended without an agreement, and Zelensky left the White House without signing a minerals deal that had been a central part of the discussions. Plans for a joint news conference with Trump were also scrapped, and Zelensky departed without addressing reporters.

Shortly after, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, writing, “He can come back when he is ready for peace.”

Vice President JD Vance also questioned whether Zelensky had demonstrated sufficient gratitude for America’s continued support throughout the war.

  • About 1,600 Capitol riot defendants pardoned by Trump

About 1,600 Capitol riot defendants pardoned by Trump

President Donald Trump has issued pardons or commuted sentences for nearly 1,600 individuals charged or convicted in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

The sweeping executive action, one of his first acts after being sworn in as the 47th president on Monday, includes blanket clemency for most defendants and commutations for key figures from far-right groups involved in the attack.

“These are the hostages, approximately 1,500 for a pardon, full pardon,” Trump announced during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office. “This is a big one. These people have been destroyed. What they’ve done to these people is outrageous. There’s rarely been anything like it in the history of our country.”

Among those granted clemency were Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, and Enrique Tarrio, former leader of the Proud Boys. Both men had been convicted of seditious conspiracy for their roles in orchestrating the violence but had not entered the Capitol themselves.

Rhodes, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison, and Tarrio, who received 22 years, were among 14 members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who had their sentences commuted. Tarrio, barred from Washington, DC, at the time of the riot, watched the events unfold from a Baltimore hotel room. His mother confirmed that he would return home to Miami on Tuesday after his release from a federal prison in Louisiana.

Trump’s order granted “full, complete, and unconditional pardons” to most of those charged, citing a desire to “end a grave national injustice” and foster “national reconciliation.” Approximately 1,583 individuals faced charges ranging from misdemeanors like trespassing to assaulting law enforcement officers with weapons such as flagpoles and fire extinguishers.

The riot, which occurred as lawmakers gathered to certify Joe Biden’s election victory, left over 140 police officers injured and five people dead, including Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed rioter fatally shot by Capitol Police.

Democrats denounced Trump’s decision, framing it as an affront to the justice system and a betrayal of law enforcement. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was among the lawmakers forced to flee the Capitol that day, called the move “an outrageous insult to our justice system and the heroes who suffered physical scars and emotional trauma as they protected the Capitol, the Congress, and the Constitution.”

Washington state Senator Patty Murray echoed the sentiment, stating, “It’s a sad day for America when a President who refused to relinquish power and incited an insurrection returns to office years later only to grant violent criminals a Presidential pardon or commutation.”

The decision surprised many observers, as Trump’s team had previously suggested case-by-case reviews of riot-related convictions. Vice-President JD Vance and Attorney General Pam Bondi had both condemned violence against law enforcement and signaled that clemency would be selective. Trump’s blanket pardon, however, marked a significant departure from those earlier statements.

Supporters of those pardoned gathered outside the DC jail and other detention centers nationwide, celebrating Trump’s action. “Freedom!” one woman shouted, referencing the president’s description of the defendants as “J6 hostages.” Families and friends of those detained awaited news of their loved ones’ release, which began hours after Trump’s signing.

Derrick Storms, chief legal counsel for Capitol riot defendants, confirmed that prisoners would begin leaving detention facilities before midnight. “We expect freedom for many by midnight,” Storms said.

While critics decried the move as rewriting history, Trump and his allies have framed the pardons as a step toward healing a deeply divided nation.

The day’s schedule is packed with tradition and symbolism. The events, beginning with a musical prelude by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combined Choirs and “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, are set to unfold indoors at the Capitol Rotunda due to Washington’s cold weather.

Klobuchar will formally open the proceedings, followed by an invocation delivered by Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, and the Rev. Franklin Graham. Christopher Macchio, a celebrated opera singer known as “America’s Tenor,” will perform Oh, America!

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh will administer the vice-presidential oath of office to JD Vance, marking another milestone in the day’s events. “America the Beautiful,” performed by country singer Carrie Underwood alongside the Armed Forces Chorus and the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club, will follow the vice-presidential swearing-in.

Chief Justice John Roberts will then lead the pivotal moment of the ceremony by administering the presidential oath to Trump. Once sworn in, Trump will address the nation in his inaugural speech.

Other highlights include the Naval Academy Glee Club’s rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic and a benediction featuring an interfaith coalition of leaders: Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, Imam Husham Al-Husainy, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, and Rev. Father Frank Mann.

The program will conclude with a stirring performance of the National Anthem by Christopher Macchio, bringing the historic day to a close.

  • Russia denies Trump told Putin to restrain Ukraine war efforts

Russia denies Trump told Putin to restrain Ukraine war efforts

The Kremlin has rejected media reports suggesting that US President-elect Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in which he allegedly warned Putin about escalating the war in Ukraine.

The call, which was first reported by the Washington Post on Sunday, was said to have occurred on Thursday.

During the reported conversation, Trump is believed to have mentioned the significant military presence of the US in Europe.

However, the Kremlin swiftly denied the existence of such a conversation, labeling the claims as “pure fiction.”

Trump’s team, when contacted by the BBC, declined to comment on the matter, with communications director Steven Cheung stating, “We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders.”

He did, however, confirm that leaders have started reaching out to the president-elect.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, reiterated the denial, describing the reports as “completely untrue” and “false information.”

“This is completely untrue, it is pure fiction. That is, this is simply false information. There was no conversation,” Peskov said.

While Trump has repeatedly stated his commitment to ending the conflict in Ukraine, he has not yet outlined a clear strategy.

Bryan Lanza, a former adviser to Trump’s campaign, suggested over the weekend that the incoming administration would focus on achieving peace in Ukraine, rather than solely aiming to reclaim occupied territories.

A spokesperson for Trump distanced the president-elect from these remarks, clarifying that Lanza “does not speak for him.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned against any territorial concessions to Russia, stressing that without US support, Ukraine would be unable to win the war.

On the other hand, Dmitry Peskov spoke of “positive” signals from the new US administration. In contrast, other international figures, including British Defence Secretary John Healey, are confident that the US will continue to support Ukraine.

“This is a warning for the ones who say, this war has to end, so let’s finish it as soon as possible no matter how. How matters,” he said.

Healey expressed his expectation that the US would stay alongside its allies, particularly the UK, “for as long as it takes to prevail over Putin’s invasion.”

During a visit to Ukraine, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell cautioned that any peace settlement must be sustainable. He warned against those pushing for an immediate end to the war without considering the long-term implications, emphasizing that “how” peace is achieved matters.

In Washington, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan indicated that President Joe Biden would stress to Trump that walking away from Ukraine would lead to increased instability in Europe.

In Germany, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock raised concerns that Putin could exploit the US transition period to gain an upper hand in Ukraine. She urged European Union members to boost their support for Ukraine immediately, asserting, “We don’t have time to wait until spring.”

The war continues to escalate, with Russia and Ukraine launching their largest drone attacks since the conflict began. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed it intercepted 84 Ukrainian drones over six regions, including some approaching Moscow, leading to airport diversions. Ukraine’s air force reported shooting down most of the 145 Russian drones launched on Saturday night.

On Monday, Russia’s airstrikes killed at least six people and injured 21 others in Ukraine. Zelensky condemned the strikes, criticizing Russia for targeting civilians and calling for stronger global support to counter the aggression.

Russian forces have also made territorial advances. Moscow’s Ministry of Defence reported capturing the village of Kolisnykivka in the Kharkiv region. According to an analysis by the Institute for the Study of War, Russian territorial gains in October were the largest since March 2022.

Adin Ross wins $1.6m on Trump election bet after public endorsement

American streamer and social media influencer Adin Ross scored a substantial $1.6 million payout after betting on Donald Trump to win the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

Ross revealed on his social media that he had placed a $1 million bet on Trump on October 20, 2024, shortly before Election Day.

In the weeks leading up to the election, Ross hosted Trump in a highly-watched livestream, where he openly endorsed the former president. Ross continued to express his support for the Republican candidate in a series of his livestreams.

Back in August, Ross visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, going live on Kick with the now 47th U.S. President. During the visit, Ross presented Trump with a Tesla Cybertruck wrapped in a famous photo taken after a failed assassination attempt on Trump in July, along with a Rolex watch as an additional gift.

Reacting to the Cybertruck, Trump referenced Tesla CEO Elon Musk, saying: “Wow. That’s an Elon. That is beautiful. I think it’s incredible.”

Ross tweeted on 6 November that he is looking forward to “hosting Trump in the White House soon.”

    Trump’s US election win

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed victory in the 2024 presidential race, defeating Kamala Harris to reclaim the White House.

The election, held on November 5, 2024, shows Trump projected as the leading candidate, with major media outlets, including CNN, Fox News, and the BBC, announcing him as the frontrunner as the majority of results are counted.

According to the BBC’s projections, Trump holds 266 electoral votes compared to Harris’s 194, with around 11 states yet to report their final tallies.

CNN similarly projects 266 electoral votes for Trump, with Harris trailing at 188. In the popular vote, Trump currently has over 68 million votes, while Harris has slightly more than 63 million.

The elephant party will win 2024 elections just like its ‘sister party’ in the US – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended hearty congratulations to its “sister party,” the United States Republican Party, following Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. President.

In an official statement, the NPP praised Trump and his Vice President-elect, J.D. Vance, on their electoral victory, calling it an “emphatic endorsement” of the Republican Party’s ideals by the American people.

The NPP highlighted the peaceful and transparent nature of the U.S. elections, commending the United States for yet again demonstrating a resilient democratic process. With Ghana’s general election slated for December 7, 2024, the NPP expressed hope that Ghanaians would draw valuable lessons from the U.S. example as they approach their own democratic exercise.

As fellow members of the International Democrat Union, the NPP and the Republican Party share a center-right political orientation, symbolized by their common “elephant” logo. This shared identity, the NPP noted, is a testament to their mutual ideologies, including policies that prioritize economic growth and national security.

Emphasizing the close ties between the two parties, the NPP expressed optimism that Ghana’s “elephant party” would replicate the Republican victory in December.

The NPP statement reflected the party’s alignment with Trump and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s “bold solutions” aimed at securing national prosperity. The NPP’s message echoed a sentiment of shared resilience, asserting that “the ELEPHANT is the WINNING SYMBOL” and that victory is within reach, “by the grace of God.”

As Donald Trump declared victory at his Florida headquarters, he celebrated a “new golden age for America.” This success came after Republican wins in key swing states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia, with networks like CBS projecting additional victories in states including Nevada and Wisconsin.

Notably, Trump was joined at his campaign headquarters by mega-donor Elon Musk, whose support boosted morale among Republicans as the results rolled in. This narrow but significant win over Kamala Harris has brought the Republican Party back to the White House, reinforcing the NPP’s belief in the global resurgence of center-right principles.

“History’s greatest comeback” – Renowned personalities congratulate Trump

Following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, prominent figures from around the globe have shared their congratulations, with some referring to the result as a historic comeback.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has had a strained relationship with outgoing President Joe Biden, hailed Trump’s return as “history’s greatest comeback,” emphasizing it as a “new beginning for America” and a reinforcement of the “great alliance between Israel and America.”

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also extended his congratulations, expressing eagerness to work alongside Trump, remarking, “From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a close Trump ally, celebrated the election as a “much-needed victory for the world.” He praised Trump’s success as “the biggest comeback in US political history!” and reaffirmed his support, noting he was the only EU leader to back Trump’s initial bid in 2016.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico described Trump’s victory as a “defeat of liberal and progressive ideas,” advising that it served as a reminder to “never trust the media and polls.” French President Emmanuel Macron expressed readiness to work with Trump “with respect and ambition” and held discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about defending Europe’s interests in the evolving global landscape.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also acknowledged the longstanding US-Germany partnership, emphasizing collaboration for “prosperity and freedom on both sides of the Atlantic.” NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte highlighted the importance of Trump’s leadership for alliance cohesion, saying he looked forward to advancing “peace through strength.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky conveyed his support for Trump’s “peace through strength” doctrine, hopeful it could pave the way for a “just peace” in Ukraine. However, there are concerns within Ukraine about Trump’s plans to press for a settlement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, potentially compromising Ukrainian territory.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni underscored the “unshakable alliance” between Italy and the US, voicing optimism for strengthened bilateral ties. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris each pledged dedication to the “strategic” relationships with the US.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen extended warm wishes, emphasizing the enduring partnership between the EU and the US, while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his eagerness to work with Trump for “more opportunity, prosperity, and security.”

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, despite previously supporting Trump’s opponent, wished him “luck and success,” calling for “dialogue and joint work for peace.” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov took a reserved stance, saying Russia would judge Trump’s presidency “based on concrete steps and concrete words,” while Iran’s government noted that their nation’s livelihood would remain unaffected.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Trump a “friend,” expressing his enthusiasm to renew collaborative efforts for the “betterment of our people.” Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan also called Trump a friend, hoping for enhanced cooperation on global and regional crises.

Argentina’s President Javier Milei congratulated Trump, echoing his campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” while Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese committed to strengthening US-Australia cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made a neutral statement, respecting the American people’s choice, while Taiwan’s National Security Bureau Chief Tsai Ming-yen said they expected continued US support.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. commended Americans for their “triumph,” noting that the election showcased the “strength of American values.” Analysts speculate that North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, who held three historic summits with Trump, is closely watching the outcome, as it could open potential channels for renewed dialogue.

African leaders also congratulated Trump, with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressing his desire to “continue the close and mutually beneficial partnership” between the US and Africa. Trump’s prior term saw minimal engagement with the continent, a point of criticism among African nations.

Trump declares himself winner in US election

Donald Trump has declared victory over Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential election, edging close to an unprecedented political comeback.

The former president told cheering supporters at a Florida campaign event that they were on the verge of ushering in “a new golden age for America.”

Needing only one more state to secure the required 270 electoral college votes, Trump appears poised to return to the White House, marking the first such return for a former president in over 130 years. CBS projections indicate his party is also on track to gain control of the Senate.

Addressing his supporters in West Palm Beach on Wednesday morning, Trump said, “This will truly be the golden age of America — that’s what we have to have. This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again.”

Elon Musk, the billionaire and a major Trump supporter, was present as results rolled in, with Trump appearing to achieve a near sweep of the critical swing states, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. Additionally, he holds strong leads in Nevada and Michigan, while Wisconsin is leaning Republican according to CBS projections. The final results, however, remain pending.

Harris, who had been expected to speak to supporters at Howard University, canceled her appearance after midnight, as her campaign faced diminishing support. Exit polls suggest she may have underperformed with female voters compared to Joe Biden’s support levels in 2020, as well as slightly lower support among Black and Latino voters.

In Congress, Republicans are projected to take the Senate, reclaiming seats in West Virginia and Ohio, while both parties remain neck-and-neck for control of the House.

Amid high stakes and heightened security, early voting saw 86 million Americans casting ballots in one of the most turbulent election seasons in recent history. Both campaigns have lawyers prepared for potential legal challenges, though voting remained peaceful nationwide despite scattered bomb hoaxes on Election Day.

Kamala vs Trump: Millions set to vote in US election

Polling stations across the United States have begun to open, marking the start of Election Day as millions of voters decide between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris for the nation’s top office.

Polls began at 5:00 a.m. ET (10:00 GMT), following an early voting period in which more than 82 million Americans cast their ballots.

Harris has campaigned on expanding abortion rights and has pledged to make food and housing more affordable for working families. Trump, on the other hand, has focused on sealing the U.S. border and has proposed trillions of dollars in tax cuts.

The candidates closed their campaigns in key battleground states: Trump in Michigan, a state with 15 critical electoral votes, and Harris in Pennsylvania, which holds 19 electoral votes. Both states are pivotal in the race, with Pennsylvania remaining highly competitive after Biden, who hails from the state, narrowly secured it in 2020. Michigan, traditionally a Democratic stronghold, was won by Trump in 2016 but flipped back to Biden in the last election.

Recent data from the BBC suggests narrow leads for Trump in states like Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, and Arizona, while Harris appears to hold slight leads in Michigan and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania remains highly contested, with both candidates showing neck-and-neck support.

  • Think before you choose; go for the lesser evil – Pope Francis to Catholics on Trump, Kamala Harris

Think before you choose; go for the lesser evil – Pope Francis to Catholics on Trump, Kamala Harris

Pope Francis has urged members of the Catholic Church to view the upcoming U.S. presidential election as a decision between the lesser of two evils.

While flying back to Rome on Friday, the Pope expressed his concerns about the two leading candidates—former President Donald Trump of the Republican Party and Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party—without naming them directly.

He highlighted that both candidates, in different ways, hold positions that he believes are “against life.”

“You must choose the lesser evil,” he stated. “Who is the lesser evil? That lady or that gentleman? I don’t know. Everyone, in conscience, [has to] think and do this.”

Abortion and immigration remain key determinants in American politics, and according to the Pope, refusing to welcome immigrants is a “grave” sin, and abortion is akin to an “assassination.” Hence, the electorate must choose between the lesser of two evils.

He, however, emphasised the need for citizens to exercise their franchise, noting that “not voting is ugly.

“It is not good. You must vote,” he stated.

Throughout its history, the Catholic Church has firmly opposed abortion while advocating for more compassionate immigration policies.

The Biden-Harris administration has positioned itself as pro-choice, implementing policies that support women’s right to make decisions regarding abortion.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has maintained a hardline stance on immigration and has outlined plans to introduce stricter immigration policies if he wins the presidency in November.

With just 50 days until the November 5 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump are the main contenders in the race for the White House.

Celine Dion goes after Trump over unlawful usage of her song for campaign

On Saturday, singer Celine Dion released a statement condemning former President Donald Trump’s campaign for using her music without permission at a recent rally, while also humorously critiquing the choice of song.

The Trump campaign has featured Dion’s hit “My Heart Will Go On” at various rallies throughout 2023 and 2024.

However, Dion’s statement revealed that she and her management team had only recently discovered its use, particularly highlighting its playback at Trump’s rally in Bozeman, Montana, on Friday.

“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” Dion said in a statement posted to her X and Instagram accounts.

“In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use. … And really, THAT song?”

“My Heart Will Go On” is a romantic ballad that served as the theme song to James Cameron’s “Titanic.” Released in 1997, it is one of the best-selling singles of all time.

CNN has contacted the Trump campaign to inquire if they plan to stop using the song at upcoming events.

Previously, artists such as Rihanna, the Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, and the estate of George Harrison have also protested against Donald Trump’s use of their music during his presidential campaigns, dating back to his initial run in 2016.

Celine Dion recently made news for her dramatic return to the stage with a performance of Edith Piaf’s “L’Hymne à l’amour” at the Olympics opening ceremony.

It was her first concert performance since revealing that she is living with stiff person syndrome, “a rare, progressive syndrome that affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord,” according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

  • Biden drops out of 2024 presidential election

Biden drops out of 2024 presidential election

President Joe Biden has announced his decision to end his candidacy for re-election, citing the best interests of his party and the country.

This announcement, made just four months before Americans head to the polls, significantly alters the landscape of the presidential race.

The decision follows weeks of mounting pressure from fellow Democrats after Biden’s lackluster performance in a debate against Republican Donald Trump at the end of June. Critics pointed to Biden’s occasional incoherence and weakened voice during the debate, which his party attributed to a cold.

In a heartfelt letter posted to his social media account on Sunday evening, Biden expressed his honor in serving as president and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote.

Biden took the opportunity to thank Kamala Harris, calling her an “extraordinary partner,” and extended his gratitude to the American people for their faith and trust in him.

He reiterated his belief in the unity and potential of the United States, saying, “I believe today and always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”

The president, who was diagnosed with Covid last week and has been recuperating at his home in Delaware, indicated on Friday that he was eager to return to the campaign trail.

However, this latest development marks a significant shift in his plans. Biden, who had previously stated that only the “Lord Almighty” could make him withdraw from the race, acknowledged that he would consider stepping down if faced with a health condition.

President Biden’s statement concluded with an announcement that he would address the nation on this matter next week, signaling a new chapter in the 2024 presidential race.

What Akufo-Addo said about Trump’s assassination attempt

President Akufo-Addo has strongly denounced the recent assassination attempt targeting Donald Trump, former President of the United States and current Republican nominee for the upcoming 2024 elections.

In a statement released on social media on July 15, 2024, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that such acts of political violence have no place in any democratic society.

He also conveyed his best wishes for Trump’s recovery and prayed for his swift return to health.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I condemn in the strongest terms the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. Such acts of politically-motivated violence have no place in our world, and undermine the principles of democracy and peace that we all hold dear.

“We send our heartfelt best wishes to President Trump and the American people during this difficult time, and we pray for his swift and complete recovery,” parts of Akufo-Addo’s statement read.

During a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024, former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt.

As he addressed a sizable crowd of supporters, gunfire erupted, sparking panic and disorder. Quick to react, Secret Service agents shielded Trump and safely removed him from the stage.

Reports indicated that Trump sustained a gunshot wound to the ear. The assailant, firing from an elevated position outside the venue, was swiftly neutralized by Secret Service agents.

Regrettably, one bystander lost their life, and two others sustained critical injuries in the chaotic incident.

Following the incident, Donald Trump was reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical treatment at a local facility.

The FBI has taken charge of the investigation, classifying the incident as an assassination attempt.

The shooter has been preliminarily identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old who fired from a rooftop adjacent to the rally venue.

Authorities are actively investigating the motives behind the attack and any possible links the shooter may have had.

  • Flashback: Apostle Amoako Attah’s prophecy on Trump’s assassination attempt

Flashback: Apostle Amoako Attah’s prophecy on Trump’s assassination attempt

A prophecy by the leader of Parliament Chapel International, Apostle Francis Amoako Attah, has caused a stir on social media following an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In a widely shared video, Apostle Francis Amoako Attah recounts two prophetic visions involving Trump.

He claims that on September 24, 2023, he dreamt of Trump in Jerusalem and warned him about a threat to his life.

“I told him that if he does not take care, he would be assassinated by October 15,” the apostle stated in the footage.

The prophecy continued with another dream set in Ephesus, where Amoako Attah warned Trump of dangers extending into August 2024, urging him to reconsider his path.

On January 15, 2024, the apostle reiterated his prophecy, foreseeing either assassination or imprisonment for Trump.

The prophecy seemed to come true on July 13, 2024, when chaos erupted at Trump’s rally in Butler. During his speech, a shootout occurred, resulting in casualties and injuries among attendees.

Trump himself was injured, with visible blood stains, before being swiftly secured by Secret Service agents.

Assassination attempts on U.S. Presidents: From Lincoln to Trump

From as early as the 19th century, there have been numerous assassination attempts and plots targeting presidents of the United States of America, a trend that continues to this day.

Donald Trump, the former president of the US, became the latest victim of such attempts on Saturday, July 13, 2024. He narrowly escaped death when a bullet grazed his right ear while delivering a speech at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Reports indicate that the former president is now out of danger, thanks in part to the swift actions of the Secret Service in apprehending the shooter.

Conversations have already begun regarding gun ownership in a nation where the constitution guarantees citizens the right to bear arms.

In response to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, this report explores the extensive history of such incidents involving US presidents dating back to the 19th century.

The following excerpt is drawn from the Wikipedia page titled “List of United States presidential assassination attempts and plots.”

    Presidents assassinated

    Abraham Lincoln

The assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, occurred on Good Friday, April 14, 1865, at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., around 10:15 PM. The assassin, John Wilkes Booth, a well-known actor and Confederate sympathizer from Maryland, planned initially to kidnap Lincoln but later decided to assassinate him after attending one of Lincoln’s speeches on April 11, 1865, advocating for voting rights for Black people.

Booth and his co-conspirators planned to attack Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre, as well as Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William H. Seward at their homes.

On the night of April 14, Lincoln attended the play “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theatre with his wife Mary and guests Major Henry Rathbone and Clara Harris. Booth entered the president’s state box and shot Lincoln with a .44-caliber Derringer pistol, fatally injuring him.

Despite a brief struggle in which Booth stabbed Major Rathbone, Booth managed to escape. Lincoln, unconscious, was quickly taken to the Petersen House across the street. Despite the efforts of doctors, Lincoln succumbed to his injuries at 7:22 AM on April 15, 1865, after remaining in a coma for nine hours.

As Abraham Lincoln passed away, accounts describe his breathing growing quieter and his face becoming serene. According to some reports, as he drew his last breath the morning after the assassination, he even smiled broadly before peacefully expiring. Historians, like author Lee Davis, have highlighted Lincoln’s tranquil demeanor at the moment of his death, noting it was a rare peaceful expression after years of turmoil.

Eyewitnesses, such as journalist Noah Brooks, observed that Lincoln’s passing was devoid of suffering or struggle, describing it as a gentle cessation of breathing. John Hay, Lincoln’s secretary, remarked on the peacefulness that settled upon Lincoln’s features.

Despite the tragic loss of Lincoln, the broader conspiracy failed in its goals: Secretary of State William H. Seward survived his wounds, and Vice President Andrew Johnson was spared an attack.

John Wilkes Booth, the assassin, evaded capture for twelve days before Union soldiers found him on April 26, 1865, at a farm in Virginia.

Refusing to surrender, Booth was fatally shot by Union cavalryman Boston Corbett. Additionally, four other conspirators involved in the plot were later hanged for their roles.

    James A. Garfield

The assassination of James A. Garfield, the 20th president of the United States, unfolded at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, D.C., on July 2, 1881, less than four months into his presidency. As Garfield arrived at the station, Charles J. Guiteau, a writer and lawyer, fired two shots from a .442 Webley British Bull Dog revolver. One bullet grazed Garfield’s shoulder while the other penetrated his back.

Despite the medical care Garfield received, which included relentless probing of his wound with unsterilized instruments, he endured suffering for eleven weeks before succumbing on September 19, 1881, at 10:35 PM.

His death resulted from complications caused by iatrogenic infections.

Guiteau was promptly arrested and stood trial from November 1881 to January 1882. Found guilty, he was sentenced to death and executed by hanging on June 30, 1882, in the District of Columbia, just two days before the first anniversary of the assassination attempt.

Guiteau was assessed as mentally unstable or suffering from neurosyphilis during his trial and autopsy.

He claimed his motive for the assassination was disappointment at not being appointed Ambassador to France and believed Garfield’s election victory was due to a speech he had written in support of him.

    William McKinley

The assassination of President William McKinley occurred on September 6, 1901, at 4:07 PM, during his visit to the Pan-American Exposition at the Temple of Music in Buffalo, New York. Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist, shot McKinley twice in the abdomen at close range with a concealed .32-caliber revolver. The first bullet was deflected by a button or medal on McKinley’s jacket, lodging in his sleeve, while the second bullet pierced his stomach. Initially showing signs of recovery, McKinley’s condition deteriorated due to gangrene, leading to his death on September 14, 1901, at 2:15 AM.

James Benjamin Parker and others in the crowd subdued Czolgosz after the shooting. Despite being beaten severely following his capture, Czolgosz survived and was swiftly convicted after a brief trial where he refused to mount a defense. He was sentenced to death and executed via electric chair at Auburn Prison on October 29, 1901. Czolgosz’s motives were politically driven, although his specific goals remain unclear.

In response to McKinley’s assassination, Congress mandated that the Secret Service provide protection to the president of the United States.

    John F. Kennedy

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated at 12:30 PM on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, during a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. Accompanied by his wife Jacqueline, Texas Governor John Connally, and Connally’s wife Nellie, Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, a former U.S. Marine and American defector, from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. Kennedy suffered wounds to his back and head, with Governor Connally also seriously injured and a bystander, James Tague, receiving a minor facial injury from bullet fragments.

The motorcade rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where President Kennedy was pronounced dead at 1:00 PM. Oswald was swiftly apprehended and charged by the Dallas Police Department not only for Kennedy’s assassination but also for the murder of Dallas policeman J. D. Tippit, who Oswald shot dead in the Oak Cliff neighborhood later that day.

On Sunday, November 24, while being transferred between jails, Oswald was fatally shot in the basement of Dallas Police Department Headquarters by Jack Ruby, a local nightclub owner.

Ruby was convicted of Oswald’s murder, but his conviction was overturned on appeal. He died in prison in 1967 while awaiting a new trial.

In September 1964, the Warren Commission concluded that Oswald acted alone in both the assassination of Kennedy and the murder of Officer Tippit, and that Ruby acted alone in killing Oswald.

Despite this official finding, public opinion polls from 1966 to 2004 revealed that up to 80% of Americans suspected there was a plot or cover-up regarding Kennedy’s assassination. Conspiracy theories surrounding the events of that day continue to persist.

    Presidents wounded

    Theodore Roosevelt

Three and a half years after leaving office, Theodore Roosevelt entered the 1912 presidential election as a candidate for the Progressive Party. While campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 14, 1912, Roosevelt was shot in the chest by John Schrank, a saloon-keeper from New York who had been stalking him for weeks. Fortunately, the bullet was slowed by a 50-page speech folded over twice and a metal glasses case in Roosevelt’s breast pocket, preventing it from penetrating deeply. Roosevelt, showing remarkable composure, reassured the crowd and ordered that Schrank be unharmed and taken into custody.

Despite being wounded, Roosevelt declined immediate medical attention, correctly deducing that the bullet had not reached his lung as he was not coughing blood. Instead, he delivered an 84-minute speech with blood seeping into his shirt, opening with the memorable line: “Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot, but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose.” Subsequent examination showed the bullet lodged in Roosevelt’s chest muscle, where doctors decided it safer to leave it than to attempt removal.

After two weeks of recovery, Roosevelt resumed campaigning but ultimately lost the election to Democrat Woodrow Wilson. John Schrank, who claimed McKinley had appeared to him in a dream instructing him to avenge his assassination by killing Roosevelt, was found legally insane. He spent the remainder of his life institutionalized until his death in 1943.

    Ronald Reagan

On March 30, 1981, as Ronald Reagan left the Washington Hilton hotel after delivering a speech, John Hinckley Jr. attempted to assassinate him by firing six gunshots. One of the bullets ricocheted off the presidential limousine, striking Reagan in the left underarm, causing a broken rib, a punctured lung, and serious internal bleeding. Rushed to George Washington University Hospital, Reagan arrived in critical condition but was stabilized in the emergency room and underwent immediate surgery. He recovered and left the hospital on April 11. Alongside Reagan, White House press secretary James Brady, Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, and police officer Thomas Delahanty were also injured. Brady suffered brain damage and later died in 2014, with his death ruled a homicide due to complications from his injuries.

Hinckley, arrested immediately, later confessed he had intended to impress actress Jodie Foster by killing Reagan.

Found mentally ill, he was confined to psychiatric care. Released on September 10, 2016, 35 years after the incident and 12 years after Reagan’s death from pneumonia complicated by Alzheimer’s disease, Hinckley’s release drew significant attention and debate.

    Donald Trump

On July 13, 2024, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right ear inflicted by Thomas Crooks. Despite the attack, Trump displayed resilience by briefly ducking and then rising to pump his fist amid chants of “USA” from the crowd.

He was swiftly surrounded by Secret Service personnel and evacuated to safety, later receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Trump was released in stable condition and subsequently departed for New Jersey by plane. Tragically, the shooter and one attendee lost their lives, with two others critically injured.

    Assassination attempts and plots
    Andrew Jackson

On January 30, 1835, near the Capitol Building, a house painter named Richard Lawrence attempted to assassinate President Andrew Jackson using two pistols, both of which misfired. Interestingly, later tests showed the pistols were functional. Jackson responded by striking Lawrence with his cane until he was subdued. Lawrence was later deemed not guilty by reason of insanity and spent the remainder of his life in a mental institution, passing away in 1861.

    Abraham Lincoln

In February 1861, as President-elect Abraham Lincoln traveled through Baltimore amid threats of the alleged Baltimore Plot—an attempt by Confederate sympathizers to assassinate him en route to his inauguration—his security was managed by Allan Pinkerton’s National Detective Agency. Despite debate among scholars about the plot’s validity, Lincoln and his advisors took precautions to ensure his safe passage through the city.

In August 1864, an unknown sniper narrowly missed Lincoln’s head by inches with a lone rifle shot while he traveled unguarded from the White House to the Soldiers’ Home in Washington, D.C. Lincoln continued his journey, stating to his friend and bodyguard, Ward Lamon, that “it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose.”

    William Howard Taft

In 1909, President William Howard Taft and Mexican President Porfirio Díaz planned a historic summit in El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Amid serious security concerns, including assassination threats related to the disputed Chamizal strip, a substantial security detail ensured their safety during the event.

In 1910, while visiting his aunt in Massachusetts, Taft’s family reported a stranger who allegedly overheard an assassination plot in Boston. The incident was reported to local police and the Secret Service, though the identity of the stranger was never determined.

    Herbert Hoover

During a goodwill tour of Central and South America in 1928, President-elect Herbert Hoover narrowly escaped an assassination plot by Argentine anarchists. The plotters planned to bomb his train, but were intercepted before they could carry out the attack.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt

In February 1933, Giuseppe Zangara fired shots at President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in Miami, Florida. While Roosevelt was unharmed, Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak was fatally wounded in the attack. Zangara was executed for Cermak’s murder.

    Harry S. Truman

In November 1950, Puerto Rican pro-independence activists attempted to assassinate President Harry S. Truman at the Blair House in Washington, D.C., where he was residing during renovations at the White House. The attempt resulted in the death of one White House policeman, while Truman himself escaped unscathed.

    John F. Kennedy

In December 1960, Richard Paul Pavlick, driven by anti-Catholic sentiments, planned to assassinate President-elect John F. Kennedy in Palm Beach, Florida. Pavlick was arrested before he could carry out his plan and was later committed to a mental hospital.

    Richard Nixon

In April 1972, Arthur Bremer attempted to shoot President Richard Nixon during a motorcade in Ottawa, Canada, but was unsuccessful due to the fast-moving nature of the event. Bremer later shot and seriously wounded Governor George Wallace of Alabama.

In February 1974, Samuel Byck attempted to hijack a commercial airliner with the intention of crashing it into the White House to kill Nixon. Byck’s attempt failed, and he ultimately committed suicide during the incident.

These rewritten accounts provide a concise overview of the various assassination attempts and plots involving U.S. presidents throughout history.

    Gerald Ford

In mid-August 1974, Muharem Kurbegovic, known as The Alphabet Bomber, threatened to throw a nerve gas bomb at President Gerald Ford in Washington, D.C., just ten days into his presidency. The CIA, U.S. Secret Service, and other agencies swiftly identified and arrested Kurbegovic within a day using voice analysis and court records. His Yugoslav origins were pivotal in his identification and subsequent apprehension.

On September 5, 1975, at the northern grounds of the California State Capitol, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, a follower of Charles Manson, aimed a Colt M1911 .45-caliber pistol at Ford. The pistol malfunctioned, as it had no cartridge in the firing chamber, and Secret Service agent Larry Buendorf swiftly apprehended her. Fromme was sentenced to life in prison and released on parole in 2009, after Ford’s death in 2006.

Just 17 days later, on September 22, 1975, in San Francisco, Sara Jane Moore fired a revolver at Ford from a distance of 40 feet (12 m). Her shot missed, hitting a building wall and slightly injuring a bystander. Oliver Sipple, another bystander, intervened and subdued Moore. She received a life sentence but was paroled in 2007, after serving over 30 years in prison.

    Jimmy Carter

On May 5, 1979, Raymond Lee Harvey was arrested by the Secret Service in Los Angeles, carrying a starter pistol with blank rounds just before President Jimmy Carter was scheduled to give a speech. Harvey claimed involvement in a plot to assassinate Carter and fired blank rounds from a hotel roof the previous night as a test. He was later released due to insufficient evidence, and charges against him and his associate, Osvaldo Espinoza Ortiz, were dropped.

    George H. W. Bush

On April 13, 1993, Kuwaiti authorities claimed to have foiled an alleged plot to assassinate former President George H. W. Bush with a car bomb during his visit to Kuwait University. Fourteen Kuwaiti and Iraqi men, suspected of working for Saddam Hussein, were arrested. The plot, believed to be directed by the Iraqi Intelligence Service, led to a cruise missile attack on an Iraqi intelligence building in Baghdad by then-President Bill Clinton. Later assessments suggested the plot might have been fabricated by Kuwaiti authorities to justify actions against Iraq.

This revision provides a concise summary of the attempted assassinations involving Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and George H. W. Bush.

    Bill Clinton

January 21, 1994: Ronald Gene Barbour, a retired military officer and freelance writer, planned an assassination attempt on President Clinton while he was jogging. Barbour, who was in Florida during Clinton’s state visit to Russia, did not carry out the attack. He was later sentenced to five years in prison and released in 1998.

October 29, 1994: Francisco Martin Duran fired at least 29 shots from a semi-automatic rifle at the White House, aiming at figures he mistook for President Clinton among men in dark suits on the North Lawn. Tourists Harry Rakosky, Ken Davis, and Robert Haines subdued Duran, who had a suicide note. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

November 1994: Osama bin Laden enlisted Ramzi Yousef, known for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, to target President Clinton. Yousef opted not to proceed, citing formidable security, and instead planned an attack on Pope John Paul II.

November 24, 1996: During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Manila, President Clinton’s motorcade was redirected due to intercepted intelligence indicating an imminent attack. Secret Service Director Lewis Merletti ordered the change, leading to the discovery of a bomb under a bridge. U.S. investigators later linked the plot to Saudi terrorist Osama bin Laden, residing in Afghanistan at the time.

October 2018: A pipe bomb addressed to Hillary Clinton was intercepted at their home in Chappaqua, New York, during a wave of similar packages sent to Democratic leaders including Barack Obama. Bill Clinton was present in Chappaqua when the package was discovered, while Hillary was campaigning in Florida. Fingerprint DNA identified the sender as Florida resident Cesar Sayoc, who was apprehended two days later. Sayoc received a 20-year prison sentence after prosecutors sought life imprisonment.

    George W. Bush

May 10, 2005: During a speech in Freedom Square, Tbilisi, Georgia, President Bush narrowly escaped harm when Vladimir Arutyunian threw a live Soviet-made hand grenade toward the podium. The grenade’s explosion was prevented by a tightly wrapped red tartan handkerchief, which blocked the safety lever. Arutyunian was arrested in July 2005 after a subsequent incident in which he killed an Interior Ministry agent during his apprehension. He received a life sentence in January 2006.

On May 24, 2022, Shihab Ahmed Shihab Shihab, an Iraqi resident of Columbus, Ohio, was arrested for his involvement in a plot to assassinate President George W. Bush. The arrest followed conversations he had with undercover FBI informants, during which he discussed illegal immigration activities and plans to smuggle Iraqi nationals into the U.S. from Mexico to aid in the plot. Shihab also claimed connections to former ISIS members, including Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, and sought to launder money from a former ISIS financial chief into the U.S. through a car dealership in Columbus.

In February of that year, Shihab and an informant conducted surveillance on Bush’s residence in Dallas, Texas, and the George W. Bush Institute. Shihab had entered the country illegally in September 2020 using false identification. He admitted to collaborating with Iraqi terrorists during the Iraq War, targeting American servicemen from 2003 to 2006, citing anger over the conflict as motivation for the assassination plot.

    Barack Obama

December 2008: Kody Brittingham, a U.S. Marine, plotted to assassinate President-elect Obama, whom he labeled a “domestic enemy”. Found with white supremacist material, Brittingham was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison.

April 2009: A Syrian man with forged press credentials planned to assassinate Obama with a knife at an Istanbul summit. He confessed, implicating three accomplices.

November 2011: Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez fired shots at the White House due to fringe beliefs, receiving a 25-year prison sentence.

2011–2012: The far-right group FEAR plotted attacks including Obama’s assassination, foiled by arrests.

October 2012: A ricin-laced letter aimed at Obama was intercepted.

June 2013: White supremacists planned to use a homemade “radiation gun” against Obama, among others.

October 2018: A pipe bomb sent to Obama’s D.C. home was intercepted.

    Donald Trump

September 6, 2017: Gregory Lee Leingang attempted to use a forklift to attack Trump’s motorcade in North Dakota, sentenced to 20 years.

November 2017: An ISIL-affiliated man was arrested in the Philippines for planning to assassinate Trump.

July 13, 2024: Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at Trump during a rally near Butler, PA, resulting in injuries and fatalities before being killed by Secret Service agents.

    Joe Biden

May 23, 2023: Sai Varshith Kandula attempted to breach the White House grounds with intent to “kill the president”, arrested with Nazi paraphernalia.

    Deaths Rumored as Assassinations

    Zachary Taylor

July 9, 1850: President Zachary Taylor’s death was initially rumored to be from poisoning due to political motives, but modern analyses found no evidence to support this theory.

    Warren G. Harding

August 2, 1923: President Warren G. Harding’s sudden death led to speculation of poisoning, but it was officially attributed to a stroke. His wife’s refusal of an autopsy fueled conspiracy theories, although medical experts later concluded he likely suffered a heart attack.

Trump campaign shooting: Details about the suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks

The Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, is grappling with shock following the FBI’s identification of Thomas Matthew Crooks as the individual who shot at Donald Trump during a campaign rally, causing nationwide alarm.

Investigators believe Crooks, armed with an AR-style rifle, fired at the former president while he addressed a crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, resulting in the death of one audience member and critical injuries to two others.

The 20-year-old kitchen worker was promptly neutralized at the scene by a Secret Service sniper, according to officials.

In his quiet and affluent hometown, neighbors are struggling to comprehend how a seemingly quiet young man could be implicated in such a violent act.

The FBI has confirmed Crooks’ involvement in the assassination attempt on the former president and is actively investigating the incident. Due to the absence of identification, investigators used DNA to ascertain his identity.

Crooks hailed from Bethel Park, approximately 43 miles from the site of the attempted assassination, and graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022, where he was recognized for his achievements in mathematics and science.

He worked at a local nursing home kitchen near his residence, according to reports.

Public records indicate Crooks was a registered Republican, although he reportedly made a donation to the liberal campaign group ActBlue in 2021.

Reports indicate Crooks was wearing a T-shirt from Demolition Ranch, a popular YouTube channel known for its firearms and demolition content.

Law enforcement officials believe the weapon used in the shooting was purchased by Crooks’ father, as reported by the Associated Press.

Following the incident, law enforcement discovered suspicious devices in Crooks’ vehicle, prompting a bomb investigation at his residence, according to CBS.

“We do not currently have an identified motive,” said Kevin Rojek, FBI Pittsburgh special agent in charge, at a briefing on Saturday night.

Authorities continue to investigate Crooks’ motive, with no clear motive identified thus far, according to FBI Pittsburgh special agent in charge Kevin Rojek.

Crooks’ father, Matthew Crooks, expressed bewilderment and stated he would wait to speak with law enforcement before commenting further.

“what the hell is going on” but would “wait until I talk to law enforcement” before speaking about his son.

According to CBS News, police cordoned off the road leading to Crooks’s parental home.

A neighbor informed CBS that officers evacuated her in the middle of the night without prior notice.

Bethel Park Police have initiated a bomb investigation centered around Crooks’s residence, leading to strict control of the area with police vehicles blocking access. Only residents are permitted entry or exit.

According to sources from law enforcement speaking to CBS, there is a belief that some level of planning occurred prior to the shooting. The extent of this planning remains under active investigation.

Authorities maintain the belief that Crooks acted alone but are ongoing in their investigation into whether he had any companions at the rally.

    Who was Thomas Matthew Crooks?

Thus far, a complex and occasionally contradictory portrayal of Crooks has emerged.

According to interviews with local news outlet KDKA, some former classmates described him as a loner who faced bullying and occasionally wore “hunting outfits” to school.

However, Summer Barkley, another former classmate, presented a contrasting view to the BBC, highlighting his academic excellence and deep passion for history, noting that he consistently performed well on tests.

“always getting good grades on tests” and was “very passionate about history”.

“Anything on government and history he seemed to know about,” he said. “But it was nothing out of the ordinary….he was always nice.”
Others simply remembered him as quiet.

“He was there but I can’t think of anyone who knew him well,” one former classmate, who asked to remain nameless, told the BBC. “He’s just not a guy I really think about. But he seemed fine.

Jameson Myers, a former member of the Bethel Park High School varsity rifle team who graduated alongside Crooks in 2022, told CBS that he did not make the team.

“He did not even make the junior varsity team after trying out,” Mr Myers added.

“He never returned to try-outs for the remainder of high school.”

Mr Myers remembers Crooks as seemingly a “normal boy” who was “not particularly popular but never got picked on or anything.”

“He was a nice kid who never talked poorly of anyone and I never have thought him capable of anything I’ve seen him do in the last few days.”
Other community members said simply that they were shocked that the alleged perpetrator of the shooting could have come from the quiet, green streets of Bethel Park.

Jason Mackey, a 27-year-old local resident who lives near the Crooks’ home and worked at his school, expressed disbelief despite not knowing Crooks personally.

“It’s shocking. You never expect something like this to happen so close to home,” Mackey said. “It’s just a surreal situation.”

As for casualties, one person was killed and two others were injured during the shooting at the campaign rally, according to CBS News. All three victims were adult men who were part of the audience.

At a press conference, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro identified the deceased as Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old volunteer fire chief who heroically shielded his family during the attack.

A GoFundMe page, initiated by the Trump campaign’s national finance director Meredith O’Rourke, has raised over $340,000 (£267,000) to support the injured victims’ families.

In a social media post on his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump described being hit by a bullet that grazed his right ear, causing him to feel the bullet “ripping through the skin.” Blood was visible on his ear and face as security personnel swiftly moved him to safety.

Trump’s statement on the Republican National Committee (RNC) website indicates that he is recovering well and appreciative of law enforcement’s swift response.

Regarding the shooting incident itself, eyewitnesses reported seeing a man, believed to be Crooks, on a nearby rooftop with a rifle before the shooting occurred.

Video footage obtained by TMZ captured the moment the shooting began, showing the assailant using an AR-style rifle.

How far was the suspected gunman from Donald Trump?

Law enforcement sources informed CBS that the gunman was initially flagged as suspicious by a bystander and police, though officers lost track of him before the shooting began.

The FBI, however, has not yet confirmed details about the type of firearm used or the number of shots fired.

Ultimately, a Secret Service sniper returned fire and neutralized the gunman, with subsequent footage showing law enforcement approaching the gunman’s body on the rooftop.

  • Biden misidentifies Kamala Harris, calls her Trump

Biden misidentifies Kamala Harris, calls her Trump

In a surprising moment during a high-stakes press conference on Thursday, President Joe Biden inadvertently referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.”

The slip occurred while Biden was addressing the qualifications of his vice president.

“Look, I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if she was not qualified to be president. So start there,” Biden said, quickly correcting himself to clarify that he was referring to Kamala Harris.

President Biden emphasized that he selected Kamala Harris as his vice president because she is eminently qualified to be president. He highlighted her extensive career as a senator and prosecutor before assuming the vice presidency. In response to a reporter’s question, Biden praised Harris’s performance, particularly her advocacy for women’s reproductive freedoms over the past four years.

“She is qualified to be president,” Biden affirmed. “That’s why I picked her.”

Despite the verbal gaffe, Biden’s remarks reinforced his belief in Harris’s qualifications and her role in advancing key policy issues.

The incident quickly garnered attention, with political commentators and social media users reacting to the mix-up.

  • It is ‘dangerous’ and ‘irresponsible’ to contest Trump’s guilty decisions – Biden

It is ‘dangerous’ and ‘irresponsible’ to contest Trump’s guilty decisions – Biden

On Friday, President Joe Biden said firmly that Donald Trump was found guilty by a group of people, and he criticized Trump’s efforts to say the case against him was politically motivated. Biden called it “reckless,” “dangerous,” and “irresponsible. ”

Biden said that the result of Trump’s criminal trial shows that everyone must follow the law, no matter who they are.

He said the jury listened to evidence for five weeks before making a decision. Trump can also appeal the decision, like anyone else who is found guilty of a crime in America. The president said Trump is trying to make it seem like the case against him is only because of politics, which is not true.

“It’s not okay for someone to say the decision is unfair just because they don’t agree with it,” said Biden. He said, “We should respect the justice system and not let anyone destroy it. ”

Biden was at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Del. , remembering his son Beau who died in 2015 from brain cancer, when the jury decided on their verdicts. He didn’t say anything about the trial then. But he came back to Washington on Friday for a gathering at the White House with the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Super Bowl. He talked to reporters about what’s happening in the Middle East and then answered questions about Trump’s situation.

Biden didn’t respond to more questions shouted at him, like what he thought about Trump blaming him, or if Trump’s name should still be on the ballot.

The president said this soon after Trump talked to reporters at his building in New York on Friday. Trump wanted to inspire his followers. He talked about being a victim and said that if it could happen to him, it could happen to anyone.

“I’m ready to do anything to protect our country and our Constitution. ” “I don’t care,” Trump said.

Biden had been trying to stay out of Trump’s legal problems and not give him more reasons to say that he’s being unfairly targeted for political reasons. However, when the trial in New York finished, Biden’s campaign started to talk about it more.

His campaign made suggestive comments about the trial to criticize Trump’s policies. Then Biden joked in a video that he heard Trump was “free on Wednesdays” when agreeing to debate him.

During the closing arguments on Tuesday, Biden’s campaign had actor Robert De Niro and two former police officers outside the Manhattan courthouse. They wanted to draw attention to the former president’s involvement in the Jan 6, 2021 US Capitol insurrection and refocus the presidential race. The campaign decided this because they thought people weren’t paying attention to their message about the election because they were too focused on the trial.

Soon after the decision on Thursday, Biden’s campaign for reelection wanted to make sure people were thinking about the options for voters in November and what would happen if Trump was president for a second time.

“A second term for Trump would bring chaos and take away American’s freedoms, causing political violence. The American people will reject this in November,” said Biden’s spokesperson, Michael Tyler.

  • Republican lawmakers respond to Trump’s verdict with rage

Republican lawmakers respond to Trump’s verdict with rage

Republican politicians were very angry when a jury in New York found Donald Trump guilty of falsifying business records to affect the 2016 election. They all seemed to agree that they didn’t think the trial was fair.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said it was a very bad day in American history and the charges were only because of politics. Ohio Sen JD Vance said the verdict was a disgrace to the judicial system. And Louisiana Rep Steve Scalise, the No 2 House Republican, said that the decision was a loss for Americans who believe in the important idea that justice is fair to everyone.

Shortly after the verdict was announced, Republicans who were previously not all in agreement with their chosen GOP presidential candidate, joined together to criticize the judge, the jury, and President Joe Biden without giving many details. This happened even though the conviction was on state charges in a Manhattan court. As the highest-ranking federal official in the country, Biden cannot control what happens in the New York City courtroom.

The jury decided that Trump lied about some documents to try to win the election by giving money to a porn actress who claimed she had sex with him. The Republicans reacted the same way Trump did. Trump said the trial was rigged and disgraceful and he will appeal quickly.

The anger and loud complaints were very strong, and this time, politicians didn’t hold back from criticizing judges and juries like they usually do. A single Republican, former Maryland Governor. Larry Hogan said before the decision that people should “follow the decision and the legal process. ”

“At this very divided time in our history, all leaders – no matter their party – should not make things worse with more angry arguing,” said Hogan, who is running for Senate in Maryland, before the verdict was given. “We need to remind ourselves of what has made this country great: following the laws. ”

There is no proof that the trial was fixed. However, Trump’s lawyers have raised concerns about a $15 donation that Judge Juan Manuel Merchan made to Biden in 2020 and his daughter’s job as a consultant for the Democratic party. The judge said no to Trump’s lawyers’ request to step down. He said he is sure he can be fair and neutral.

However, Republicans have focused on Trump’s criticisms of the judge and the legal process in the New York trial and three other cases in Atlanta and Washington. These cases accuse him of trying to overturn the 2020 election and illegally keeping top-secret records after his presidency. Several Republican lawmakers, including Johnson, have gone to the courthouse to show their support for him.

South Carolina Sen Lindsey Graham said that the verdict shows more about the system than the accusations. He has been a strong supporter of Trump.

Trump became the first ex-president to be found guilty of serious crimes by a court. Almost all Republican lawmakers in Congress are strongly supporting him in this year’s election.

“Great job, progressives,” announced Sen. Mike Lee from Utah. “You just made sure that Trump will win the election. ”

Republicans criticized Congress while they were on a break using social media, press releases, and appearing on television. Not only Trump’s friends but also some of his critics were upset.

Texas Senator John Cornyn, who had separated himself from the former president after the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack by Donald Trump’s supporters, said “this decision is shameful, and this trial should not have taken place. ”

“Now is the time to support @realdonaldtrump, win the White House and Senate, and make our country better,” said Cornyn, who is running to take over as Senate Republican Leader from Mitch McConnell after the November election. “The actual decision will be made on Election Day. ”

South Dakota Senator John Thune, who is the number 2 Republican in the Senate and running for leader, and has been critical of Trump, said the case was started for political reasons, and today’s decision doesn’t change that.

Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, a member of the Republican party, voted against Trump in his second trial after the Capitol attack. He said he disagreed with the decision, but wasn’t surprised because of the way the trial was conducted.

McConnell didn’t say anything about the verdict. He and Trump haven’t been getting along, but he recently supported Trump’s campaign for 2024.

As predicted, Democrats were happy and tried to lessen the GOP criticisms of the process.

“Trump supporters are planning to criticize the jury and the court because they want to weaken our democracy and they need people to think the justice system is unfair,” wrote Sen Chris Murphy, D-Conn. “It is not. ” Donald Trump did something against the law. He was caught. He was found guilty. “That’s how the law works. “

  • Trump becomes first former US president to be found guilty of felony

Trump becomes first former US president to be found guilty of felony

Donald Trump was found guilty of breaking the law by a New York jury, after he tried to influence the 2016 election unfairly by making an illegal payment to a porn actor. This makes him the first former American president to be convicted of a serious crime.

Trump looked serious as the decision was read. People outside were cheering and their voices could be heard in the hallway of the courthouse’s 15th floor. It took more than nine hours for the decision to be made.

“This trial was unfair and shameful,” said Trump angrily to the reporters after he left the courtroom. “The final decision will be made by the people on November 5th. ” They know what happened, and everyone knows what happened here. = They are aware of what happened, and everyone knows what took place here.

Judge Juan Merchan will decide the punishment on July 11. This is just a few days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The GOP leaders still strongly support him and are likely to officially choose him as their nominee at the convention.

The decision is a big legal problem for Trump and could mean he might go to jail in the city where his actions with the tabloid press helped him become famous and eventually president. As he tries to become president again in this year’s election, voters have to decide if they are okay with the way Trump acts.

Trump is likely to challenge the decision and will have a difficult situation when he goes back to campaigning because he has been found guilty. There are no scheduled campaign events right now, but he is expected to appear at Trump Tower on Friday and traveled to a fundraiser in Manhattan on Thursday. This was planned before the verdict, according to three people who know his plans but cannot speak about it publicly. Trump’s campaign raised money after the verdict. They asked for donations and said Trump was a “political prisoner. ”

The charges for faking business records can result in up to four years in prison. It’s not clear if the prosecutors want to send the person to prison, and the judge may or may not decide to do that.

Trump can still try to become president, even if he goes to jail.

Trump is being accused of three serious crimes, but the case in New York might be the only one that is finished before the November election. This makes the outcome even more important. The verdict has clear legal and historical meanings, but its impact on politics is not as clear. It might strengthen people’s existing opinions about Trump instead of changing them.

For another person running for president at a different time, having a criminal record would likely ruin their chances. But despite two impeachments, claims of sexual abuse, investigations into his connections to Russia, and trying to change the election results, Donald Trump’s political career has not been destroyed. There have also been scandalous stories about him, like when he bragged about touching women inappropriately on a recording.

Voters have known about the general accusations in the case for many years. These accusations are considered less serious than the allegations in three other cases where he is charged with harming American democracy and mishandling national security secrets.

Before the decision was made, Trump’s campaign said that whatever the jury decides, it wouldn’t change how people would vote and that the election would be determined by things like inflation.

However, the decision is expected to allow President Joe Biden and other Democrats to strengthen their arguments that Trump is not capable of being in office. The White House only made a quiet statement saying they respected the legal process. On the other hand, the decision will give the likely Republican nominee more reason to say he is unfairly treated by the legal system and that it is biased against him for political reasons.

Trump said he didn’t do anything wrong during the trial. He didn’t think the case should have been brought to court. He complained about the trial inside the courthouse and had many Republican friends supporting him. He also got in trouble for making disrespectful comments about the witnesses outside of court.

After the decision, Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche said on TV that he doesn’t think Trump got a fair trial. He also said they will appeal because the judge didn’t step down and there was too much news about the trial before it started.

Republicans are still supporting the party leader. House Speaker Mike Johnson said it was a bad day in American history and called the case a political move, not a legal one.

The trial of the former American president, Donald Trump, was a big test for the court system because he was well-known and he constantly criticized the case and the people involved in it. The decision from the 12 jurors showed that they didn’t support Trump’s attempts to make people lose trust in the trial or to try to impress them with Republican support.

Bragg said that even though this defendant is very unusual, the trial and the verdict were reached in the same way as any other case, by looking at the evidence and the law without being influenced by fear or preference.

The trial is about Trump lying about his business records to hide a secret payment to a porn actress, Stormy Daniels, who claimed to have had an affair with him in 2006.

Michael Cohen, who used to work for Trump, paid $130,000 to keep Stormy Daniels from talking about Trump during the last part of the 2016 election. This is against the law and interferes with the election. When Cohen got his money back, the payments were written down as legal costs. The prosecutors said this was not allowed and was an attempt to hide the real reason for the transaction.

Trump’s lawyers say that the payments were for legal services and were lawful. He said it didn’t happen, and his lawyers said in court that because he’s famous, people try to get money from him by threatening to tell lies about him.

Defense lawyers also said that the hush money deals to hide bad stories about Trump were done for personal reasons like protecting his family, not for political reasons. They also tried to make people doubt Cohen, the main witness for the prosecution. He admitted to breaking the law in 2018 and they say he did it because he doesn’t like Trump and just wants attention and money.

The trial had lots of interesting testimony that went over a part of Trump’s past that we already knew about. This was when his 2016 campaign was in trouble because of a recording from “Access Hollywood. ” In the recording, Trump talked about grabbing women without asking and there were also worries about other bad stories about Trump and sex coming out that would hurt his chances of winning.

Trump did not talk in court, but the people listening heard a secret recording of him talking with Cohen about a $150,000 payment to keep a Playboy model, Karen McDougal quiet about her relationship with Trump. Trump says he did not have an affair.

Daniels said herself that she had a sexual encounter with him in a hotel room in Lake Tahoe. David Pecker, the old boss of the National Enquirer, said he tried to stop bad stories about Trump from getting out. He even had his company buy McDougal’s story to keep it secret.

Jurors also listened to Keith Davidson, the lawyer who arranged the secret money payments for Daniels and McDougal. He explained the difficult talks to make sure that both women got paid for staying quiet. But he also had to deal with tough questions from a lawyer representing Trump, who pointed out that Davidson had arranged similar secret payment deals for other well-known people.

The most important witness was Cohen. He talked for days about how he was involved in the hush money scheme and how he says Trump knew all about it.

“Make sure it’s handled,” he said, quoting Trump.

He showed the jury the clearest connection between Trump and the main accusations by describing a meeting where they planned to pay Cohen back for his legal expenses in small monthly payments.

  • Key witness gave misleading testimony during hush money trial – Trump’s lawyer

Key witness gave misleading testimony during hush money trial – Trump’s lawyer

Donald Trump is on trial for paying money to keep something secret. However, Trump’s lawyer says that the person accusing Trump of doing this is lying and cannot be trusted. He is asking the jury to find Trump not guilty in this big and important trial.

The lawyers have a full day to make their last arguments to the Manhattan jury before they decide what will happen to Trump. They want to make a big impression and persuade the jury members.

“President Trump did not do anything wrong. ” “He didn’t do anything wrong, and the district attorney hasn’t proven their case,” said Todd Blanche, the defense lawyer. He thinks the evidence isn’t convincing.

Blanche said that it’s simple if there’s no evidence you heard anything in the last five weeks, there will be consequences. The person was found not guilty. That’s

After a long time of people talking in court, the jury has an important decision to make. They have to decide if the likely Republican presidential nominee is guilty of making payments to a porn actor to keep her from talking about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump during the 2016 election.

Because prosecutors have to prove their case, they will speak last.

The lawyers trying to prove that Trump is guilty say they have enough evidence, while the lawyers trying to prove him innocent are saying that they don’t believe the evidence and are trying to show that Michael Cohen isn’t a reliable witness. Trump’s ex-lawyer admitted to breaking the law and helping make secret payments. He also testified against Trump in court.

Blanche said that you can’t prove President Trump did anything wrong based on what Michael Cohen said. She also said that Cohen lied about many things.

After the lawyers finish talking, the judge will tell the jury about the rules they must follow and what they can think about when they talk and decide the final outcome.

Trump is accused of committing 34 crimes of faking business documents. He could go to prison for up to four years if found guilty. He said he did not do it and is not guilty. It’s not clear if the prosecutors will ask for jail time if the person is found guilty, or if the judge will decide to give jail time if asked.

The case is about a $130,000 payment that Cohen gave to a porn actor named Stormy Daniels. He did this just before the 2016 election to stop her from telling everyone about her story of having sex with Trump 10 years earlier in a Lake Tahoe hotel room. Trump says Daniels is lying, and his lawyer accused her of making it all up during the trial.

When Trump paid back Cohen, he said it was for legal services, but prosecutors think it was to hide the real reason for the payment to Daniels and to illegally affect the election that Trump won against Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Trump’s lawyers say the payments were for real legal work and his fame made him a target for extortion during the campaign.

Blanche showed the jurors emails and testimony proving that Cohen worked on legal issues for Trump that year during a PowerPoint presentation. Cohen said the work was not much, but Blanche disagreed.

“Cohen did not tell you the truth. ” Blanche said Cohen lied to you and he sounded more serious.

Blanche said that Trump was too busy with being president in 2017 to know about the checks that were signed to pay Cohen back.

He mentioned what a person who used to work for Trump’s company said in court. The person said they never discussed with Trump how to describe the money sent to a staff member. Blanche also said that another person who works for Trump mentioned that Trump would sign checks while talking to people or on the phone, without knowing what they were for.

Almost 20 people gave information, including Daniels, who talked in detail about her encounter with Trump. David Pecker, the former National Enquirer publisher, said he used his company to protect Trump by stopping stories that could hurt his campaign, and paying $150,000 to a former Playboy model to keep her quiet about her affair with Trump. Cohen also said Trump was involved in the discussions about paying hush money. He quoted Trump as saying, “Just pay it. ”

The lawyers will remind the jury about the papers, emails, and other evidence they saw. They will also talk about a recording of Cohen and Trump talking about a deal with a model. Trump said he did not have a relationship with McDougal.

The lawyers who are trying to help Trump in court brought in two people to testify, but neither of them were Trump. They spent a lot of time trying to make Cohen look bad by asking him about his criminal past, past lies, and how well he remembered important things.

During questioning, Cohen confessed to taking a lot of money from Trump’s company by asking to be paid back for expenses he didn’t actually have. Cohen admitted that he told a prosecutor he thought Daniels and her lawyer were forcing Trump to give them money.

Donald Trump has four criminal cases against him in New York as he tries to become president again.

The three other court cases are about the person keeping secret documents at his home in Palm Beach, Florida, and trying to change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. But it’s not clear if any of them will go to trial before the November election.

Trump holds campaign rally in New York to win over black and Latino voters

Donald Trump held a campaign rally in New York’s South Bronx neighborhood, aiming to win over black and Latino voters ahead of November’s presidential election.

Among those sharing the stage with him was Florida Republican Byron Donalds, a black congressman and rumored potential running mate.

This rally marked Trump’s first in New York in roughly eight years, as he tries to make inroads with ethnic minority voters.

A recent New York Times and Sienna poll suggests Democrat Joe Biden is losing support among this crucial voting bloc in key states.

The Bronx, a mainly Hispanic and black neighborhood, is a Democratic stronghold. Trump spoke directly to the New York audience about his impact on the city, where he built much of his fortune and fame.

He claimed that while the city once inspired the world, it is now spiraling into decline, citing crime and infrastructure issues.

He blamed Biden and record levels of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border for having an economic impact on minority voters.

“The biggest negative impact [of illegal immigration] is against our black population and our Hispanic population, who are losing their jobs, losing their housing, losing everything they can lose”, Mr Trump told the crowd.

Before Mr Trump’s arrival, there was concern about how he would be received in the Bronx.

“I wish he would just disappear,” one man told the New York Times ahead of the rally.

    “Nobody I know supports him.”

Police presence was heavy at Crotona Park as counter-protesters gathered outside the rally.

They were eventually removed by New York police, according to the BBC’s US media partner CBS.

But people who spoke to the BBC said they appreciate Mr Trump’s willingness to step out of his comfort zone.

“It’s a bold move right here, him coming to the Bronx,” Geoffrey Davis said. “What he’s done here is very respectful.”

Mr Davis said he supports Mr Trump because “when he was president, there were no wars. No Ukraine-Russia. No Israel-Gaza”.

Thamar Corniel, a Trump supporter who was born in the Dominican Republic, said: “He’s America first.”

Mr. Trump has been increasingly trying to make inroads with minority communities, hoping to sway crucial swing states in his favor.

The race between Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump is tight ahead of the November 5th election. In April, during a break from his criminal hush-money trial in New York, Mr. Trump visited a Harlem corner store. He also spoke at a gala for the Black Conservative Federation, an organization working to expand Republican support among black voters, and has hired a black media director, Janiyah Thomas.

However, there have been missteps. In February, he was criticized for suggesting that his four criminal indictments boosted his appeal with black Americans because they see him as a victim of discrimination.

According to a recent New York Times and Sienna poll, Mr. Trump is leading Mr. Biden in five battleground states, partly due to black and Latino voters drifting away from the Democratic Party. President Biden has taken notice, as that bloc was crucial to his win in 2020, and has spent millions of dollars on targeted advertising blitzes.

Young and non-white voters appear to be losing faith in Mr. Biden and the Democrats, growing frustrated with issues like inflation and the White House’s support for Israel.

During President Biden’s recent commencement address at Morehouse University, a historically black college, several graduates turned their backs on him in protest of his handling of the war in Gaza.

    Olive branch to Haley

After the rally, Mr Trump extended an olive branch to his Republican primaries rival Nikki Haley, calling her a “very capable person” who he expected to serve on his team “in some form”.

Earlier this week, Ms Haley said she would vote for the man who beat her in the race for the Republican presidential nomination – a race that saw the two sides trade bitter insults.

“We have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts,” commented Mr Trump, acknowledging that their slanging match had been “pretty nasty”.

She ultimately withdrew and challenged her adversary to win over the millions of voters who picked her in the contest. The Biden campaign has been looking to woo the same groups.

  • Judge in Trump’s hush money trial cleared courtroom of reporters

Judge in Trump’s hush money trial cleared courtroom of reporters

The judge in Donald Trump’s hush money trial told reporters to leave the courtroom on Monday and warned the defense’s witness that he could be kicked out of the trial for his behavior while testifying, according to a court transcript.

Judge Juan M. Merchan told Robert Costello, a person who used to work for the government as a lawyer, that his behavior was disrespectful at that moment.

Costello kept making comments and talking even after he was told to stop, which made Merchan really mad during his testimony. At one time, Costello said “jeez” when he was interrupted by an objection. He also said the whole exercise was “silly. ”

“I want to let you know that your behavior is disrespectful,” Merchan said when the press was not in the room, according to the conversation transcript. “If you keep looking at me in a mean way, I will make you leave. ”

Costello did not reply to a message asking for a comment on Monday night.

Merchan told Costello that I had to clear the courtroom because it was difficult for the court officers to do it and there was an argument between the press and their lawyers. “Sir, you’re being disrespectful at the moment. ”

When he started the press conference again, Costello kept talking and will talk more on Tuesday. The defense is trying to make Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, look less trustworthy.

Trump’s lawyers asked Merchan to end the case and dismiss the charges before the jury makes a decision, after the prosecutors finished presenting their evidence. He didn’t make a decision right away. It was the end of a long and intense day, and the main witness for the prosecution admitted to stealing a lot of money from Trump’s company.

After the jurors went home, lawyer Todd Blanche told the judge that the prosecutors did not show enough evidence for their case and it should be dismissed right away. Blanche begged the judge not to send the case to the jury based on Mr Cohen’s testimony.

The judge didn’t seem to be convinced by the argument and asked the defense lawyer if they thought the person’s testimony was so unbelievable that the jury shouldn’t even consider it as a possibility.

“The judge said that you claimed his lies cannot be proven wrong. ” “Do you really believe he can trick 12 New Yorkers into believing this lie. ”

Cohen was the final witness for now for prosecutors. They are trying to show that Trump tried to hide bad stories about himself and then changed business records to hide it, to illegally affect the 2016 election. The defence says that Cohen is a liar who is obsessed with the media and wants to get revenge on Trump.

The defence asked Costello to testify because he was a critic of Cohen after they stopped working together.

Costello said he would help Cohen when the police searched his hotel, office, and house. Cohen had to decide if he would keep fighting the investigation or work with the police to get a lighter punishment.

Costello said that Cohen told him Trump didn’t know anything about the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

“Michael Cohen said many times that President Trump didn’t know about the payments, that he did it by himself, and he said that many times,” Costello told the jurors.

Trump’s lawyer said they won’t bring in other people to testify after Costello, but they might still ask campaign-finance expert Bradley A Smith to testify a little bit. It’s not certain if Trump will testify, but it seems like he probably won’t.

Again in court for the fourth day, Cohen said on Monday that he took money from the Trump Organization because his holiday bonus was reduced from $150,000 to $50,000 in 2016.

Cohen said he spent $50,000 to a tech company to help make Trump look better in a poll on CNBC’s website about successful businessmen. Cohen gave the firm $20,000 in cash, and then asked Trump to give him back more money than that, keeping some for himself.

“Did you take things from the Trump Organization. “

“Yes, sir,” Cohen said. Cohen said he never gave the Trump Organization their money back. Cohen has never been accused of taking things from Trump’s company.

Cohen is an important witness, but he is also complicated. He said in court that he told a lot of lies in the past, and he said he did it to protect Trump. Cohen went to prison for admitting he did some bad things, like lying to Congress and a bank, and breaking campaign finance rules to pay hush money. He has earned a lot of money from writing harsh books about the ex-president, and he frequently criticizes the ex-president on social media using bad language.

But when Blanche asked him, Cohen stuck to his memory of talking with Trump about the $130,000 payment to keep Stormy Daniels quiet, which is the main focus of the case.

“Are you sure. ” Blanche asked Cohen if he remembered talking to Trump about the Daniels situation. It’s true, Cohen said.

For over a month, people talked in court about sex, money, gossip, and how Trump’s company keeps records. Soon, a group of people will decide if Trump broke the law by lying about business records. This is the first time a former US president has been on trial for a crime.

The charges come from Trump Organization records that show payments to Cohen were labeled as legal expenses. Prosecutors say these were actually payments to reimburse Daniels for keeping quiet.

Trump says he did not do it. His lawyers claim that there was nothing illegal about the Daniels deal or how Cohen was paid.

“There is no crime,” Trump said to the reporters when he got to the courthouse on Monday. “We spent money on a lawyer. ” Do you know what it’s listed as. A cost for the law.

Trump’s friends, including some who were with him at the courthouse on Monday, were quick to use Cohen’s confession on the witness stand to their advantage. Kash Patel, who used to work for Trump, said that on Monday, for the first time in six weeks of the trial, they found a crime – Cohen stole money from the Trump Organization.

“We have someone who was hurt as well. ” Patel said the victim is Donald J Trump.

Blanche asked Cohen on Monday about his first denials that Trump knew about the Daniels payment. After The Wall Street Journal said in January 2018 that Cohen had paid the porn actor over a year ago, Cohen told people that Trump didn’t know about it.

He only changed his account after the federal authorities searched Cohen’s home, office, and other places related to him in April 2018. Four months later, Cohen admitted to breaking campaign finance laws and other crimes. He told the court that Trump had told him to make the payment to Daniels.

Cohen is usually known for getting angry easily, but he has been surprisingly calm when answering questions in court, even when the defense has been tough on him about his mistakes and the accusations in the case.

The lawyer for Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, is likely to finish presenting evidence once Cohen is done speaking. But if Trump’s lawyers bring in their own witnesses, then the prosecutors could also call in more witnesses to respond. Judge Juan M Merchan said that because of other planned events, he thinks the closing arguments will happen on May 28, which is the Tuesday after Memorial Day.

Defense lawyers stated that they have not yet decided if Trump will testify or not. Trump did not answer the reporters’ questions about whether his lawyers told him not to testify. Defense lawyers usually don’t want their clients to testify in court because it can make things worse for them.

Trump’s lawyers might ask Bradley A Smith, a Republican law professor appointed by former President Bill Clinton to the Federal Election Commission, to argue against the prosecution’s claim that the hush money payments broke campaign finance laws. However, the judge has restricted what Smith can talk about.

Judge in Trump’s hush money trial threatens to eject witness from court room

The judge in the trial of Donald Trump’s hush money case made the reporters leave the courtroom and warned the defense’s witness that he might be removed from the trial because of how he behaved while testifying. This information was recorded in a court transcript.

Judge Juan M. Merchan told Robert Costello, who used to be a federal prosecutor, that his behavior was disrespectful.

Costello annoyed Merchan multiple times during his testimony by whispering comments and talking after objections were made, which made it clear to the witnesses to stop speaking. Costello said “jeez” when he was interrupted by an objection. He also said the whole thing was “silly. ”

“I want to let you know that I think your behavior is disrespectful,” Merchan said during a private conversation when the press was not around. “If you keep staring at me, I will make you leave. ”

Costello did not respond to a message asking for a comment on Monday night.

I had to remove everyone from the courtroom, including the press and their lawyers, because it was hard to do and there were arguments. This is why I had to clear the courtroom in the first place. “Sir, you are being disrespectful with your behavior. ”

When he brought the machine back in, Costello kept talking and will continue on Tuesday. The defense is trying to make Trump’s ex-lawyer, Michael Cohen, seem less trustworthy.

Trump’s lawyers asked Merchan to end the case before the jury makes a decision and to dismiss the charges after the prosecutors finished presenting their evidence. He didn’t make a decision right away, the request came at the end of a long and intense day. The prosecution’s main witness also admitted to stealing a lot of money from Trump’s company.

After the jury went home, lawyer Todd Blanche told the judge that the prosecutors did not prove their case and it should be stopped right away. Blanche asked the judge to not let the jury decide the case based on Mr. Cohen’s

The judge did not seem to be affected by the argument and asked the defense lawyer if he believed that the person’s testimony should not be considered by the jury at all.

“The judge replied that you said his lies cannot be proven wrong. ” “Do you really believe he can trick 12 New Yorkers into believing this lie. ”

Cohen was the most recent person to testify for the prosecutors. They are trying to show that Trump tried to hide bad news about himself and lied about his business records to cover it up, in order to influence the 2016 election illegally. The defence has said that Cohen is focused on the media and is lying because he wants revenge against Trump.

The defence asked Costello to testify because he has been an enemy and critic of Cohen since their professional relationship ended in a big way.

Costello had said he would help Cohen after his place was searched, and Cohen had to decide if he would stand up to the investigation or work with the authorities to get a lighter punishment.

Costello said that Cohen told him Trump didn’t know about the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

“Michael Cohen said many times that President Trump did not know about the payments, and that he did it by himself. He said this many times,” Costello told the jury.

Trump’s lawyer, Emil Bove, said to the judge that the defense will not bring in any more witnesses after Costello. However, they might bring in campaign-finance expert Bradley A Smith for some questioning. They have not said for sure if Trump will testify, but it seems very likely that he will decide not to go on the stand to defend himself.

Again in court for the fourth day, Cohen said on Monday that he took money from the Trump Organization because he got a holiday bonus of $50,000 instead of the usual $150,000 in 2016.

Cohen said he gave $50,000 to a tech company to make Trump look more popular in a CNBC poll about famous business people. Cohen said he only gave the company $20,000 in cash in a bag, but then he asked Trump to pay him back for the whole amount, keeping the extra money for himself.

“Did you take things from the Trump Organization. ”

“Yes, Mr” Cohen said he did not give money back to the Trump Organization. Cohen has never been accused of taking things from Trump’s company.

Cohen is an important witness, but he is also difficult to understand. He said in court that he has told a lot of lies in the past, and he says he did it to protect Trump. Cohen went to jail for admitting he lied to Congress and a bank, and broke campaign finance laws by paying hush money. He made a lot of money by writing mean books about the old president and posting rude stuff about him on social media.

However, when Blanche questioned him, Cohen maintained that he remembered talking to Trump about the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, which is the main focus of the case.

“Are you sure you remember. ” Blanche asked if Cohen remembered talking to Trump about the Daniels situation. “Definitely,” Cohen said.

More than four weeks of talking about sex, money, and Trump’s business records have been presented in court. Soon, the jury will decide if Trump is guilty of 34 counts of lying about his business records. This is the first time a former US president has faced a criminal trial.

The charges come from Trump Organization records that show payments to Cohen labeled as legal expenses. But prosecutors say these were actually reimbursements for hush money paid to Daniels.

Trump said he did not do it. His lawyers say that there was nothing illegal about the agreement with Daniels or how Cohen was given money.

“There is no crime,” Trump told the reporters when he got to the courthouse on Monday. “We had to spend money on a lawyer. ” Do you know what it is listed as. It is considered a legal cost.

Trump’s friends, including several who were with him at the courthouse on Monday, quickly took advantage of Cohen’s confession on the witness stand. Kash Patel, who used to work for Trump, told reporters that for the first time in six weeks of trial, they found a crime – Cohen took money from the Trump Organization.

“We have a person who was hurt. ” The person who was hurt is Donald J Trump,” Patel said.

Blanche asked Cohen on Monday about his first denials that Trump knew about the Daniels payment. After The Wall Street Journal said in January 2018 that Cohen had organized the payment to the porn actor over a year before that, Cohen told reporters, friends, and others that Trump didn’t know about the deal.

He didn’t change his story until the police looked through Cohen’s home, office, and other places in April 2018. Four months later, Cohen admitted to breaking campaign-finance laws and other crimes. He told the court that Trump had told him to arrange the payment to Daniels.

Cohen is usually angry, but he was mostly calm when the defence asked him tough questions about his wrongdoings in the case.

After Cohen finishes testifying, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office will probably finish presenting their case. But if Trump’s lawyers call their own witnesses, the prosecutors might get a chance to call more witnesses to respond.

  • Trump is their candidate, and Jesus is their Saviour – Trump’s backers

Trump is their candidate, and Jesus is their Saviour – Trump’s backers

Donald Trump is appealing more to Christians as he runs for president again. His support from evangelicals and other conservative Christians is still very strong.

Kimberly Vaughn from Florence, Ky said, “Trump believes in Jesus, and thinks America will fail without Jesus. ” She said this as she joined other people who also support the former president at a rally near Dayton, Ohio.

A lot of T-shirts and hats at the rally in March had religious messages on them, like “Jesus is my savior, Trump is my president” and “God, Guns & Trump. ” One man was wearing a shirt that said, “Make America Godly Again,” with a picture of Jesus and Trump.

A lot of people said in interviews that they thought Trump has the same Christian faith and values as them. Many people said they are against abortion and the rights of 2SLGBTQ+ community, especially when it comes to transgender people expressing themselves.

No one talked about Trump’s past actions or the criminal charges he’s facing now. This includes claims that he tried to keep secret payments to a porn star during his 2016 campaign. Fans believed that Trump stood for giving people another chance.

Many people see Trump as a supporter of Christianity and love for their country.

“I think he has faith in God, our military, and our country, America,” said Tammy Houston from New Lexington, Ohio.

Sherrie Cotterman from Sidney, Ohio said, “I prioritize my family and, in a bigger way, I prioritize America. ” “I would choose a president who openly admits he needs God’s strength more than his own, any day of the week. ”

In a lot of ways, this story is like ones we already know.

Approximately 80% of white evangelical Christians supported Trump in 2020, and a similar number supported him in 2016 according to two different surveys.

This campaign is new, but support for Trump has stayed strong. Even though there were other conservative Christian candidates to choose from, none of them had the legal problems and misconduct allegations that Trump has. In the Republican primary elections in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, Trump got a lot of support from white evangelical voters. He received between 55 and 69 percent of their votes.

Trump criticized another politician, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, for making strict rules about abortion. In the past, some people who speak for Trump have said he is supportive of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Trump was the only Republican running for election who had a lot of legal problems. He was accused of trying to overturn the 2020 election and also of falsifying business records to influence the 2016 election with hush money.

Trump was the only GOP candidate who had owned casinos and been divorced twice. He was also accused of sexual misconduct, and one of the accusations was confirmed by a court.

Most voters in the Republican primary chose Trump by a large majority.

This has made some conservative evangelicals very upset because they think Trump is pretending to be religious and only using the Bible and prayer for show. People think he doesn’t have strong beliefs and is dealing with serious accusations of bad behavior while using aggressive speech and wanting to have a lot of power.

Karen Swallow Prior, a Christian writer and expert on literature, has criticized other evangelicals for supporting Trump. She said that the support in 2024 is even stronger than before.

She said in the past that Trump supporters wanted to believe that he shared their Christian faith, but they weren’t sure.

“Now his followers think they are right,” she said. “Even though Trump is unsure about abortion and LGBTQ issues, people just pretend those things don’t exist and don’t talk about them. ”

At the Ohio rally, many people said they think Trump has changed his ways and started living like a Christian.

“We have all done wrong. ” Vaughn said that Jesus spent time with sinful people, so he will also spend time with Trump. “It’s not important where Trump started, but where he is going and what he is trying to do with our country. ”

The Ohio rally had a recording of the national anthem sung by people who were found guilty of crimes during the January 6th attack on the US Capitol. Trump called them “patriots”.

At the beginning of the rally, a group gave out papers encouraging people to trust Jesus for salvation and to support the J6 patriots.

Caleb Cinnamon, a 37-year-old man from Dayton, said he is a Christian and cares a lot about stopping abortion. He mentioned that Trump picked three people for the Supreme Court, and in 2022 they made a big decision to overturn a previous ruling that made abortion legal all over the country.

“Donald Trump is the first president to openly oppose abortion and take action to support his stance,” he said. “Republicans have been promising to make changes to abortion laws since the 1990s, but they haven’t followed through on their promises. ”

Jody Picagli from Englewood, Ohio, said that her beliefs as a Catholic and her thoughts on abortion are very important to her.

“I believe in the right to live,” she said. “That’s really important for me. ” Just being good and having good values. I think people’s sense of right and wrong is off track. “We need to bring religion and the church back here. ”

She said that because the US Supreme Court is letting each state decide on abortion laws, a future President Trump may not have much influence on those laws.

“But I know he won’t ever go to an abortion clinic and visit it, like our vice president did,” she said, referring to Kamala Harris visiting a Planned Parenthood clinic in Minnesota in March.

Christians who support Trump also mentioned .

  • Trump endorsed by NRA and promises to uphold gun rights

Trump endorsed by NRA and promises to uphold gun rights

Ex-president Trump told people with guns to vote next time there is an election. He said this to a big group of National Rifle Association members in Texas, where they said they support him for president again.

“We need to make sure that people who own guns are voting,” Trump said a day after campaigning in Minnesota during his criminal hush money trial. “I believe you are a group of rebels. ” “But let’s break the rules and vote this time. ”

Trump said that in the upcoming election, the Second Amendment, which is about the right to own guns, is very important. He claimed that if Democratic President Joe Biden is re-elected, he will take away people’s guns for sure. Joe has been trying to take guns away from law-abiding people for 40 years.

The Biden administration is trying to stop gun violence. They made a new rule to close a loophole that lets unlicensed dealers sell many guns without doing background checks.

Trump promised to keep supporting the Second Amendment, saying it’s in danger. He also said he’s the best friend of people who own guns while the US has more deaths from mass shootings than ever before. 42 mass killings happened last year, and 217 people died. It was one of the deadliest years ever.

Biden criticized the likely Republican candidate for president. He said Trump made inappropriate comments after a school shooting in Iowa. Trump said the incident was really bad, but then he said we need to move on from it. We need to keep going.

On Friday in Minnesota, Trump said, “You know, it’s really surprising. ” People who own guns and use them legally really like guns, but they don’t usually vote. But we still need their votes. There’s no one else to vote for because the Democrats want to ban guns and they will ban guns.

Trump criticized Robert F Kennedy Jr during his speech, calling him “radical left” and “a disaster,” and mentioning that Kennedy had labeled the NRA as a “terror group. ”

“Don’t worry about it. ” “Don’t throw away your vote,” he said. “He said you’re a bad group, but I say you’re very important to America. ” (Kennedy later said in a Fox News interview that he didn’t remember his 2018 tweet. ) “He said he doesn’t think they are a terror group and he supports the Second Amendment. ”

Trump said he will talk at the Libertarian Party’s meeting next week and will ask its members to vote for him.

“He said we need to join them. ” “We need to win that 3% because we can’t risk Joe Biden winning. ”

On Saturday, Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee said they made a new group called “Gun Owners for Trump. ” It’s for people who support gun rights and work with guns.

Biden wants to reduce gun violence a lot, so he made a special office to help with that. Kamala Harris is in charge of it. Biden wants Congress to make a law to ban assault weapons, which is something Democrats were scared to do in the past.

Harris said that Donald Trump is supporting the gun lobby and making the problem of gun-related deaths among children and teens worse. She and Biden will work to keep Americans safe from guns, while Trump will prioritize the interests of the gun lobby over the safety of our kids and communities.

When Trump was in charge, he promised to make gun laws tougher at times. After a shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed and 17 others were injured, Trump promised survivors and their families that he would be very strict about checking people’s backgrounds before they can buy guns. He said he would stand up to the NRA (National Rifle Association), but later he changed his mind, saying that there wasn’t much support from other politicians for his idea.

Major organizations that support gun safety and have approved of Biden were going to protest close to the convention center in Dallas, where the gun lobby’s yearly meeting was taking place.

Trump has a lot of supporters in Texas, but the Democrats there believe they can win a Senate seat in November. US Rep Colin Allred is leading a campaign to try and beat Republican Ted Cruz. No Democrat has been elected to an important state job in Texas for 30 years, making it the longest streak in the country.

  • Biden should undergo drug test before first presidential debate – Trump

Biden should undergo drug test before first presidential debate – Trump

US forme president, Donald Trump has asked for Joe Biden to take a drug test before the two presidential debates they both plan to be in.

The former president talked about the current president’s speech and said that he was “high as a kite” and should be drug tested.

“I just want to argue with this guy, and I’m going to ask for a drug test too,” Trump said to Republicans at a GOP dinner in St. Paul, Minnesota

“Yes, I am. No, I’m not; I swear. He shouldn’t enter like the Secretary of State, in my opinion. The presumed Republican candidate for president said, “He was high as a kite.”

“We will ask for a drug test,” Trump said again, but he didn’t say if he would take one too.

The Biden campaign did not quickly answer The Post’s request for a comment. Biden, who is 81 years old, spoke loudly and quickly during his long speech.

“Representative” Greg Murphy, a Republican from North Carolina and co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus, claimed that Biden must have taken something to be so energetic during his speech.

Trump, who is 77 years old, has asked before for Biden to take a drug test.

In 2020, he said Biden’s debate performances were not always good, and he wanted Biden to take a drug test before their debates for the 2020 election.

Neither person running for president in 2020 got tested for drugs before their two debates.

Trump and Biden have agreed to have a debate on June 27 and Sept 10.

“They will be fair, I think they will be fair enough,” Trump said on Friday about the networks hosting the debates.

  • Trump and Biden to debate on television

Trump and Biden to debate on television

President Donald Trump have different opinions on many issues, including immigration, healthcare, and climate change. They both have strong beliefs and ideas about what is best for the country, but they often disagree on how to achieve those goals. Their differing opinions have led to intense debates and disagreements between their supporters and critics.

Despite their differences, both men have a strong influence on American politics and policy. President Donald Trump said yes to having two debates for the election. The first one will be on June 27 and hosted by CNN. The second one will be on September. ABC is hosting a big event where the first presidential debate will happen soon.

The Democrats quickly agreed on a schedule to meet after one of them said he won’t be joining the presidential debates in the fall that are organized by a nonpartisan commission. Biden’s team suggests that media companies should set up the debates with the Democratic and Republican candidates. The first debate would be in June and the second in September before people start voting. Trump posted on his Truth Social site that he is ready and willing to debate Biden at the times that were proposed.

A few hours later, Biden agreed to debate on CNN on June 27 after getting an invitation. He also challenged Donald to join him. Trump said on Truth Social that he will be there no matter when or where. He also said, “Let’s get ready to Rumble. ”

And then they decided to have another debate on ABC. Trump said on his new social media platform, Truth Social, that he was very honored to agree to the debates.

Biden said he also got the invitations and said yes to them. “Trump says he will find his own way to get there. ” I will also bring my airplane. “I want to keep it for four more years,” he wrote on X.

However, both sides seem to have some differences in how to set up the debates. This includes deciding on who will moderate and what rules to follow. These were the same issues that led to the creation of the Commission on Presidential Debates in 1987.

Biden’s team wanted to keep other candidates, like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., out of the debates. According to the debate commission’s rules, Kennedy or other third-party candidates can take part in the debate if they have enough support from states to get 270 Electoral Votes and if they have at least 15% support in some national polls.

CNN announced that the debate will take place in Atlanta and there will be no audience. They will announce the moderators and other details at a later time. The group said Kennedy could join if he met their rules about polling and being on the ballot, like everyone else.

Just this morning, Trump said he wants a big crowd of people to watch him.

“I think there should be more than two debates and they should be held in a very big place. Biden might be nervous around big crowds, but that’s just because he’s not used to them,” Trump said. “Just let me know the time, and I’ll come over. ”

Trump wants to have more debates and have them earlier. He thinks voters should be able to see the two men debate before early voting starts in September. He has said many times that he is willing to debate Biden anywhere and anytime, and even suggested they have the debate outside the courthouse where he is currently on trial. He has been teasing Biden by using an empty podium at his rallies.

Biden’s team is mad at the nonpartisan commission because they didn’t make Trump follow the rules in the 2020 debates. They’re talking to TV networks and some Republicans to find a way around the commission’s control of the debates.

Biden’s campaign leader, Jen O’Malley Dillon, wrote a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates. She said Biden’s campaign doesn’t like the dates for the fall debates because they come after some people have already started voting. Trump’s campaign also doesn’t like the dates. She also complained about the rule breaking and the commission’s decision to have the debates with a live audience.

“She said the debates should be for the American voters, not for entertaining a noisy crowd of supporters and donors. ” “Like the first televised debates in 1960, it’s better and saves money to have just the candidates and moderators in a TV studio, so the focus can be on what voters want. ”

Trump didn’t like the commission because of problems at his first debate with Hillary Clinton in 2016. He was also upset when a debate with Biden was canceled in 2020 because he got COVID-19. The Republican National Committee said they won’t work with the commission for the 2024 elections.

The commission didn’t answer a request for comment on Wednesday.

The Trump campaign said they don’t like when debates are scheduled after people start voting. They think voters should hear from the candidates before they vote.

O’Malley Dillon said there should be a debate between the two candidates who have the best chance of winning the election, and not waste time on candidates who have no chance of becoming President.

The Democrat said the two candidates could choose some dates. They also made a joke about Trump’s trial, saying he has free time on Wednesdays.

The president said he would debate Trump in an interview with Howard Stern on the radio last month. He told him, “I am, somewhere. ” I don’t know when it will happen. “But I’m willing to argue with him. ”

Biden said last week that he was getting ready to debate and told reporters to make the arrangements.

  • DeSantis intends to gather funds in Florida and Texas for Trump

DeSantis intends to gather funds in Florida and Texas for Trump

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is going to help raise funds for former President Donald Trump in the next few weeks. He made a promise to do this when he met with Trump last month. This shows that DeSantis wants to support Trump’s potential run for president in 2024. Two people who know about this confirmed it.

The people didn’t want to give their names because the details are not final yet and plans might change in the next few weeks. However, DeSantis is contacting people who give money while his finance team is working fast to plan a schedule that would involve visits to Florida and Texas.

DeSantis is trying to make peace with Trump after months of arguing. Trump used to make fun of DeSantis, but now they are trying to work together. The progress also shows that DeSantis is trying to use his successful fundraising skills to help him if he decides to run for president in 2028. This could be helpful if Trump can’t run again because of term limits.

Roy Bailey, a Dallas investor who helped raise money for DeSantis during his presidential campaign, said he believes other supporters and donors will also follow DeSantis’s lead. “We will be looking at the people who gave money to DeSantis in the past but haven’t given money to President Trump. ” We will try to get donations from those people for him. “That will make a lot of money. ”

DeSantis, who was thought to be a strong candidate to compete against Trump, raised over $183 million for his Republican presidential campaign, but he did not win. The super PAC Never Back Down raised over US$145 million, which is a lot of money and they could collect as much as they wanted. DeSantis collected over $200 million for his 2022 campaign in Florida.

“We are putting effort into raising money to support President Trump and other Republicans running for office,” said Taryn Fenske, spokesperson for DeSantis, in a text to The Associated Press.

  • Third week of Trump hush money trial’s testimony coming to an end

Third week of Trump hush money trial’s testimony coming to an end

The third week of witnesses talking in Donald Trump’s trial about paying money to keep things secret is almost over. The people deciding the case heard from Stormy Daniels, a person who acts in adult films, and soon they will hear from Michael Cohen, who used to work as a lawyer for Trump and is an important witness for the prosecutors.

Daniels said she had a physical relationship with Trump, and this is important for the lawyers trying to prove that Trump and his friends kept secret information before the 2016 election to help him win.

Trump said the sexual encounter never happened and he felt very angry when he left the court on Thursday. He said to the reporters that he didn’t do anything wrong. His lawyers asked for the trial to be stopped because Daniels talked about things that were too detailed, but the judge refused.

For more than 7.5 hours, Daniels talked a lot about what she says happened after she met the person at a big golf event at Lake Tahoe. The event was sponsored by the company where she worked in adult films. Daniels said she was shocked, frightened, and uneasy, even though she said yes to having sex with Trump.

During a difficult time answering questions, Trump’s lawyers tried to prove that Daniels is lying and only wants money and attention by accusing the former president. Donald Trump’s lawyer, Susan Necheles, asked Daniels why she accepted money to keep quiet instead of telling everyone. The two women disagreed about the changes in Daniels’ story over time.

Necheles asked Daniels if he had just pretended everything.

    “No,” said Daniels.

The lawyers are saying that the money was given to protect his reputation and family, not to hide stories about his personal life and help his campaign.

After Daniels spoke in court on Thursday, Trump’s lawyers asked the judge to change the rule that stops him from talking about the case’s witnesses, so that he could respond to what she said in public. The judge also said no to that request.

This happened before Trump became president and now jurors have to deal with Cohen, who paid $130,000 to Daniels. It’s not known when the prosecutors will bring their main witness to testify. He admitted to federal charges and went to jail for being involved in the hush money plan.

Trump is accused of making false records for his company 34 times. The charges are related to paperwork like bills and payments that were marked as legal expenses in the company’s records. Lawyers say the money Cohen got was mostly to pay him back for giving Daniels money to stay quiet.

On Friday morning, Madeleine Westerhout, a person who worked for Trump, will be answering questions in court. She was working at the Republican National Committee when a video of Trump was leaked just before the 2016 election. The tape is important because it caused a lot of controversy and made the payment to Daniels happen sooner, according to the prosecutors.

Westerhout, who later worked as Trump’s personal secretary, said on Thursday that RNC leaders were so upset by the tape that they talked about finding a new candidate to replace Trump if necessary.

People who have seen what happened have been giving two different types of testimony. Some of them have been giving very boring and hard to understand information about finances, while others have been talking about scandalous and embarrassing stories about Trump and the world of tabloids, and how they were kept secret. In the end, this trial is about whether money was given for business deals to illegally influence the 2016 election, despite all the drama.

This court case could be the only one out of four against the likely Republican candidate for president to go to trial before voters decide in November whether to re-elect him. Trump says he didn’t do anything wrong and thinks the justice system is unfair because it is trying to stop him from being president again.

At the same time, Trump may go to jail if he keeps breaking the gag order. His lawyers are arguing with the judge’s decision and want a quick ruling from a higher court. If the court doesn’t remove the rule to keep quiet, Trump’s lawyers want to ask the state’s highest court for permission to appeal.

Trump fined US$1,000 for breaking gag order in the hush money scandal

The judge in charge of Donald Trump’s trial for paying to keep something secret has made him pay a fine of US$1,000 for disobeying his order to stay quiet. The judge also told Trump that if he disobeys again, he could go to jail.

Trump has been punished for saying things that upset people during the trial. This is the second time it has happened. Last week, he had to pay $9,000 as a penalty for breaking nine rules.

Judge Juan M. can be rewritten as “Judge Juan M. ” Merchan said that if the gag order is broken again, someone could go to jail, but he doesn’t want that to happen.

Lawyers in Donald Trump’s trial about paying someone to keep quiet are getting closer to him. They have new information about how he reacted to a bad recording that came out just before the 2016 election.

Hope Hicks used to work in the White House and was a top aide for many years. She is the closest person to President Trump who has testified in the Manhattan trial.

On Friday, she told the jurors about a crazy and important time in the campaign. This was when a recording from 2005 of Trump saying inappropriate things about women was made public. He and his supporters also tried to stop other embarrassing stories from coming out. According to prosecutors, Trump gave money to a porn actor and Playboy model to keep them quiet about their sexual encounters with him before he became a politician.

“I knew this was going to be a big story and it would be in the news for many days,” Hicks said about the “Access Hollywood” recording that was first reported in a Washington Post story in October 2016. “This was a bad thing that happened. ”

The trial is in its third week of testimony. The prosecutors are getting ready to bring in their main witness, Michael Cohen. He used to be Trump’s lawyer and helped to solve his problems. He admitted to breaking the law by making secret payments. Cohen will be asked tough questions by the defense lawyers who want to make the jurors doubt his honesty.

Trump is accused of committing 34 crimes for lying about his business records and paying to hide bad news stories. Prosecutors say Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, paid Cohen back for the money he gave to porn star Stormy Daniels and also gave him bonuses and extra money. Prosecutors say that the transactions were recorded as legal expenses in the company’s records even though they were not.

Trump has said he did not do anything wrong and didn’t have any sexual encounters with the women. He says he is not guilty.

“Jurors have listened to people speak in court, like a magazine publisher and a friend of Trump’s. The friend bought stories about Trump to keep them secret, and a lawyer arranged to pay money to keep two woman’s stories quiet. ”

Trump’s lawyers have been trying to weaken the prosecution’s argument and make some witnesses seem less believable. They asked if Trump was pressured to pay money to stop negative stories and protect his family. The lawyers say the money was to keep him in the running for president.

This case is one of four legal actions against Trump. It might be the only one to go to trial before the November election. He is being charged with trying to undermine the 2020 election and keeping secret documents illegally after he stopped being the president.

  • Trump returns to campaign with fear of jail time if he violates trial gag order

Trump returns to campaign with fear of jail time if he violates trial gag order

Donald Trump will take a break from his hush money trial to talk to voters in Wisconsin and Michigan. This comes after he was in trouble for disobeying a court order.

People are going to pay attention to what he says because he got in trouble for talking about the case. He had to pay a $9,000 fine. Judge Juan M. has decided to make Trump pay a fine for the posts on his Truth Social account and campaign website. Merchan said that if Trump keeps breaking the rules, he will punish him by putting him in jail.

The ex-president is trying to do something that has never been done before in American history. He is running for president again as the likely Republican candidate, at the same time as he is being accused of a serious crime in New York. Trump often criticizes Merchan, prosecutors, and people who might testify against him at his rallies and on social media. His supporters like when he does this, but it might cause legal problems for him.

Trump says he’s just using his right to free speech, but his posts on Truth Social and campaign website were removed. Merchan is thinking about other possible instances where Trump may have broken a rule about speaking freely, and will listen to reasons why on Thursday.

Trump seemed upset after the ninth day of the trial ended. He said he’d rather be in Georgia and New Hampshire than in court.

“He said the people running the campaign don’t want me to be involved. ”

Trump has said many times that these cases against him are interfering with the election. He believes they are stopping him from campaigning for the presidential election in November.

The gag order stopped him from talking publicly about the people involved in his hush money case.

Manhattan prosecutors say Trump and his friends did something illegal to try and change the 2016 election by buying and hiding stories. He says he didn’t do it.

Trump went to Wisconsin and Michigan for the second time in a month. These states are important because they can go either way in the election. In recent rallies, the ex-president mainly talked about immigration and people living in the U. SSpeaking bad about people who do illegal things and are thought to have done crimes by calling them “animals”.

Wisconsin and Michigan are few of the states that will likely decide the 2024 election.

For Trump to win in both states, he needs to get a lot of support from the suburbs. This includes places like the areas outside of Milwaukee and Saginaw, Michigan, where he will be having rallies on Wednesday. He didn’t do well in the suburban areas during the primary election this year, even though he did really well compared to the other Republican candidates.

Trump keeps saying that he didn’t really lose the 2020 election, even though that’s not true. Trump lost in important states in 2020. People checked the results many times, but he still lost. Even the Justice Department and other people looked at the results and agreed that he lost.

  • Trump has “no standing declassification order” involving materials -Former official

Trump has “no standing declassification order” involving materials -Former official

In the court case about Donald Trump’s private papers, lawyers said that a past official from his administration told investigators that Trump, as president, was not allowed to make the documents he had public.

The papers are from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s response to a request from Trump’s lawyers. They have information from when the prosecutors talked to a person who used to work for the government. The official didn’t want to be recorded during the interview because it was too risky in the Trump administration, as per FBI notes.

The FBI notes, which are called a 302, have some parts blacked out so we can’t see the name of the person they used to work for. Their name is Person 16, and some pages are completely covered in black.

The former government worker who had access to see Trump and was in the Oval Office every day, told lawyers that there was no official rule to keep things secret, and they were never told about it while working at the White House.

In 2022, the FBI looked through Trump’s Mar-a-Lago house and found more than 100 hidden papers. Trump’s team said that when he was president, he made a rule that any papers brought from the Oval Office to his house were no longer secret.

Trump is being accused of breaking the law by keeping secret government papers when he was no longer at the White House. He was accused of committing 37 different crimes. The papers had hidden information about US nuclear weapons and protection. Trump did not want to return them to the government, so he tried to keep them. He said he didn’t do the things people said he did.

The new court papers don’t say anything different from what the special investigator has already stated, but they give us a look at some of the proof that Smith will present in the trial. This proof includes specific statements from people who are employed at the Trump White House.

In late October or early November of 2021, almost a year before police searched Mar-a-Lago, a former official asked Trump to give back government documents, according to the court documents.

“Return everything you have,” said the former official to Trump, according to the 302.

The ex-official said they tried to get many people close to Trump, even his kids, to tell him, “There are problems with the boxes. ” They are owned by the government. Ask your dad to return them. “It’s not worth the frustration. ”

In late November 2021, the former official said the warnings became more serious when talking to investigators. The person who used to work for the government said to Trump, who was wearing clothes for playing golf, “Give back everything you have. ” “Don’t give them a reason to charge you, because they will. ”

Trump gave a strange response like “you’re the man” to the investigators, according to the former official.

Another document submitted to the government explains an FBI interview about how the National Archives and Records Administration tried to find government records that were missing. This includes letters from President Obama and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The interview with a former Trump administration official, whose name is not mentioned but is called “Person 40,” talks about how Trump liked certain papers, like the North Korean letters.

The person in charge wrote down a lot of information about how records were managed when Trump was president. The notes say that another person who worked at the White House said that Trump didn’t believe in the system.

During a talk, Person 40 said that Trump’s boxes of papers should go to NARA. Person 14 asked, “Who’s NARA and how can they make it happen. ”

A person in their 40s wrote about how Trump destroyed, tore up, or threw away documents in the White House. Even when this was made public in a Politico story, the person said Trump didn’t stop.

  • US presidential campaign team of Trump for 2024 raised US$15m in March

US presidential campaign team of Trump for 2024 raised US$15m in March

The formal president of the United States of America Donald Trump, has announced that he desires to hold the position of President of the United States in 2024. The presidential election campaign said it got US$15 million in March, which is a lot more than the month before.

Trump has consistently raised less money than President Joe Biden for their upcoming election in November. The vote to choose the next president.

It was unclear from Trump’s financial report to the Federal Election Commission if he made progress in raising money. Biden was supposed to share how much money his campaign had at the end of March on Saturday.

  • Man dies after setting himself on fire outside of Trump’s Manhattan hush money trial

Man dies after setting himself on fire outside of Trump’s Manhattan hush money trial

A man died after he burned himself outside the Manhattan court where former President Donald Trump‘s trial for hush-money is happening.

37-year-old Maxwell Azzarello poured liquid on himself and then threw conspiracy-theory papers into the air.

It happened after the jury was chosen for Mr. Trump’s trial was completed

He was really sick and had to go to the hospital on Friday. Sadly, he died later at the hospital. This was confirmed by CBS News, which is partners with the BBC in the US.

Donald Trump was at the building to pick people for the jury, and he had bodyguards with him. But he left while the trouble was happening.

The New York City police said on Saturday that Mr Azzarello was pronounced dead by hospital staff, according to NBC.

Security at the court was not broken during the incident on Friday, according to emergency officials. The trial, which had finished choosing the jury, started again in the afternoon. The first statements will start on Monday.

Investigators got a 911 call at 1:30 pm saying that a man set himself on fire.

They found out his name is Maxwell Azzarello, and he came to New York from Florida last week. He is 37 years old. He didn’t do anything wrong in New York, and his family in Florida didn’t know he went there.

New York Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said Mr Azzarello was seen walking around in the park and then taking out a flammable liquid and some pamphlets from a bag.

Chief Maddrey said that the pamphlets were spreading propaganda and conspiracy theories.

There were a lot of police outside the courthouse because of the trial, and they quickly ran into the park yelling for a fire extinguisher. Mr Azzarello was taken on a stretcher because his body was badly burned. The police said he was brought to a special hospital for burn injuries and he is in very bad condition.

Julie Berman told reporters: “It was really hot and didn’t make much sense. ” It all happened really quickly. It took me about 20 seconds to understand what was happening.

NYPD investigators picked up brochures that Mr. Azzarello had dropped before setting himself on fire. They have said that the area is safe.

The police are still talking to people who saw what happened. They said the person who set himself on fire didn’t seem to say anything before doing it.

Three police officers and one court officer got hurt a little while putting out the fire.

Authorities stated they will now review the safety measures outside the court.

  • Man sets himself ablaze in front of New York court hosting Trump trial

Man sets himself ablaze in front of New York court hosting Trump trial

A man set himself on fire outside a New York courthouse where Donald Trump‘s trial was happening. Officials said he wasn’t trying to hurt Trump.

The man was on fire for a few minutes where everyone could see him on TV, outside the courthouse. This is where they’re holding the very first trial of a former US president.

Authorities said the man lived and was in very serious condition at a nearby hospital.

Onlookers saw the man take some papers out of a bag and throw them in the air. Then he poured a liquid on himself and lit a fire. A brochure talked about “really rich people” being bad, but the part that a Reuters person saw didn’t talk about Trump.

The police in New York said the man, Max Azzarello from St Augustine, Florida, didn’t seem to be trying to harm Trump or anyone else in the trial.

“Right now we are calling him a conspiracy theorist, and we are investigating further,” said Tarik Sheppard, a deputy commissioner with the Police Department, at a press conference.

In a message online, a man said he lit himself on fire and said sorry to his friends, people who saw it happen, and the first people who helped him. The post talks about a very bad takeover by a fascist group and is not happy with cryptocurrency and US politicians. It does not mention Trump specifically.

People who saw what happened said they were troubled by what he did.

“He was burning for a long time,” a person who didn’t want to share their name told the news. “It was really scary. ”

There was a lingering smell of smoke in the plaza after the incident. A person who saw what happened said a police officer used a fire extinguisher on the ground. A backpack was on fire and there was a gas can nearby.

The court in downtown Manhattan had a lot of police guarding it. Many people protested and watched the trial on the first day, but fewer people have come since then.

    Jury has been chosen.

The big news came right after the jury was chosen for the trial. This means that the prosecutors and defense lawyers will be able to start making their arguments next week. The trial is about money that was paid to a porn star to keep quiet.

12 people who decide things, along with six backups, will look at evidence in a trial to decide if a former US president broke the law.

The jury has seven men and five women. They mostly have jobs in offices and wear white collared shirts. Some of the jobs include corporate lawyer, software engineer, speech therapist, and English teacher.

Many people are not from New York originally, they come from different places in the United States and other countries like Ireland and Lebanon. The alternates are backup jurors kept in case one of the regular jurors has to leave because they are sick or for some other reason.

Trump is said to have hidden a $130,000 payment his lawyer made to a porn star to keep her quiet about an affair they had before the 2016 election.

Trump says he didn’t do anything wrong. He’s been accused of lying about his business records. He also denies having any dealings with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

Trump said he did not commit the crimes in three other cases. This case is the only one that will definitely go to trial before November. The Republican politician wants to run for president against Joe Biden again in the next election.

A conviction would not stop him from holding a government job.

  • Lawyers for Trump claim Stormy Daniels resisted subpoena outside of bar in Brooklyn

Lawyers for Trump claim Stormy Daniels resisted subpoena outside of bar in Brooklyn

Donald Trump’s lawyers tried to give Stormy Daniels a subpoena when she came to an event at a bar in Brooklyn last month. She is supposed to be a witness at the former president’s trial. But she refused to take it and left.

A person delivering legal papers for Trump’s lawyers said he gave the papers to Daniels but had to leave them on the ground because she wouldn’t take them. This was stated in a court document released on Wednesday.

“I told her she was given the papers and told her what they were,” said Dominic DellaPorte, who delivers legal documents. “She ignored me and continued walking into the place, and she had a blank expression. ”

Before a showing of the “Stormy” movie at the 3 Dollar Bill club, there was a fight between Trump’s lawyers and Daniels’ lawyer. This fight has been going on for a month and is still going on this week as Trump’s criminal trial starts in Manhattan.

Trump’s lawyers want Judge Juan M. to do something. Merchan wants Daniels to follow the subpoena. They included a picture that they said DellaPorte took of Daniels as she walked away.

Clark Brewster, Daniels’ lawyer, says they did not get the papers. He said the requests were like looking for something that is not necessary and have nothing to do with Trump’s trial for breaking the law.

Brewster wrote a letter to Merchan on April 9, saying that the process set up before the trial seems like it’s meant to harass or scare a regular witness. Brewster didn’t answer a message from The Associated Press right away.

Trump’s first criminal case that involves paying hush money is now going to trial. Seven people have been chosen to be jurors. The process of choosing the jury will start again on Thursday.

Daniels will talk about getting $130,000 in 2016 from Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, to keep quiet about a sexual encounter she had with Trump years ago.

Cohen got paid back by Trump’s company for the payment. Trump is being blamed for changing his company’s records to keep secret the payment and other things he did to hide bad news during the 2016 election.

Last year, Trump said he didn’t do 34 bad things related to lying about his business records. He says he didn’t have sex with Daniels. His lawyers say that the money given to Cohen was for valid legal costs and was documented accurately.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office said that if Trump decides to speak at the trial, they will question him about his recent legal losses to test if he is telling the truth. The documents were filed last month and kept confidential.

Trump has to give $454 million as a punishment because a judge said he lied about how much money he has. In a different court case, a group of people decided that he had to pay $83. 3 million for saying bad things about writer E. Jean Carroll said that he accused him of sexually hurting her.

Merchan said he wants to have a meeting on Friday to decide if it will be allowed.

According to the law in New York, prosecutors can ask witnesses about their past legal issues in some situations. Trump’s lawyers disagree. Trump wants to speak in court, but he doesn’t have to and can decide not to later.

Regarding the subpoena argument, Trump’s lawyers are trying again to get important information about Daniels, who is an important witness for the case.

They want a lot of papers about how the movie “Stormy” was made. The movie is about Stormy Daniels and how she became famous after being linked to Trump. It also talks about her time in the adult film industry.

They also want Daniels to say how much money she was paid for the movie.

Trump’s lawyers argue that the movie’s debut on NBC’s Peacock streaming service last month, a week before the trial was supposed to start, created bad publicity for Trump, making it hard for him to get a fair trial.

Trump’s lawyers say that Daniels is just trying to make money by using her reputation as a witness.

The subpoena asks for messages between Daniels and other people who might be witnesses in the trial, like Cohen and Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who says she had a relationship with Trump. It also asks for any messages between Daniels and Carroll.

Earlier this month, Merchan stopped Trump from getting information about the documentary from NBC Universal by using legal power. He said that the subpoena and its demands are like a fishing trip, trying to find something.

  • Seven jurors selected for Trump’s criminal trial over hush money; eleven more required

Seven jurors selected for Trump’s criminal trial over hush money; eleven more required

On Tuesday, the first seven people to decide if Donald Trump broke the law by paying hush money were chosen. Lawyers asked them questions about their social media, politics, and personal lives to make sure they can be fair to Trump.

The people chosen for the panel are an IT worker, an English teacher, a nurse who works with cancer patients, a salesperson, a software engineer, and two lawyers.

Eleven more people need to promise to tell the truth before the trial can start next week. It is the first trial of a former president. This is a crucial time for Trump. He has been trying to delay his court cases until after the November election and says that he is being treated unfairly by the justice system for political reasons.

The trial is making Trump’s legal problems the focus of his close election race against President Joe Biden. This is the first of four cases against Trump that will go to trial. It might be the only one where a decision is made before people vote for the Republican presidential nominee.

The careful process happening in a Manhattan courtroom shows how hard it is to find fair judges for the controversial defendant in the city where he built his real estate empire before becoming president in 2016. However, picking the jury happened faster than expected on Tuesday afternoon. It was supposed to start again on Thursday.

After leaving the courthouse, Trump stopped in the hallway to talk to reporters about the case. He said Judge Juan Merchan was rushing the trial. He says he didn’t do anything wrong.

Trump said that we will keep fighting against this judge. He tried to have the judge removed from the case, but he was not successful.

Later on Tuesday, Trump went to a store in Harlem. Someone asked him what he thought about the people who were deciding his case. He said it was too soon to know for sure, and we will have to wait and see what happens.

In the past two days, lots of possible jurors were let go because they said they couldn’t be fair or because they had other plans. Trump’s lawyers questioned a few people about their social media posts, and one person was let go because of a post from 2017 that said “Lock him up. ”

Some potential jurors told the judge that they thought they could make a fair decision in the case, regardless of their opinions about Trump or his policies as president.

Trump watched in the courtroom while potential jurors, whose names are only known to the prosecutors, Trump, and their legal teams, talked about their lives and opinions of him. The judge scolded Trump for talking loudly and using big hand gestures while the judge asked a lady about a post on social media.

“I didn’t understand what he was saying, but I could hear his voice and he was using his hands to communicate. ” “He was talking to the jury,” Merchan said. I won’t put up with that. I won’t allow anyone to scare the jurors in this courtroom.

Lawyer Joshua Steinglass challenged Trump’s reputation directly, telling potential jurors that they didn’t have to be completely unaware of recent events. They just needed to be open-minded.

This situation is not about your own political beliefs. It’s not about judging President Trump or trying to see who you will vote for in November. We are not concerned. This is about whether the man did something against the law.

Trump says he didn’t do the bad things he’s accused of. They say he lied about his business records to hide embarrassing stories about his sex life during his 2016 campaign.

The trial is going to go on for six weeks or longer. Some people in the jury might have plans for Memorial Day and after that.

A man was let go because he was worried he couldn’t be fair. He thought his past and job might make him automatically favor certain people.

“I’m not sure I can be fair,” another person told the judge. “I will give it a shot. ” “But I’m not completely sure I can be fair. ” She was also fired.

A person picked for the jury said they think Trump is interesting and that he always makes people feel strongly when he enters a room.

Another woman said she doesn’t like what Trump does and gets annoyed with him sometimes. However, she promised to be fair and unbiased. She told the defence lawyer that she would do her best to make a fair decision if she was chosen for the jury.

“I couldn’t sleep last night because I was thinking about if I could do that,” she said.

Trump smiled and nodded big when one person said he read two of the former president’s books, “The Art of the Deal” and “How to Get Rich. ” The man, who said some of his wife’s family members work for the Republican Party, said he didn’t think there was anything that would stop him from looking at the case fairly.

“He said that everyone should follow the law. ”

The charges are about Trump’s company paying $130,000 to his lawyer, Michael Cohen. He gave money to stop Stormy Daniels from telling everyone about her time with Trump. Trump said that the meeting never happened.

Prosecutors say that the money given to Cohen was recorded as legal fees, but it wasn’t true. The prosecutors said the money was part of a plan to hide harmful information.

  • Media call on Biden, Trump to participate in US 2024 presidential debates

Media call on Biden, Trump to participate in US 2024 presidential debates

Twelve news groups have asked Joe Biden and Donald Trump to have debates. They said debates have been a big part of every election since 1976.

Trump didn’t join the debates to become the Republican candidate, and now he wants to debate the Democratic president in 2020. But the Democratic president hasn’t said if he will debate Trump again.

Even though they haven’t been officially invited, the news organizations said it’s okay for each campaign to announce that they will take part in the three presidential and one vice-presidential forums organized by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.

“Americans all believe that this election is very important, even though people have different opinions. ” The organizations said this together in a statement. “In that situation, nothing is as good as the candidates debating with each other in front of the American people about their ideas for our country’s future. ”

ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, PBS, NBC, NPR, and The Associated Press all agreed to the letter.

Biden and Trump argued two times in 2020. The third debate was called off because Trump, who was the president at the time, got sick with COVID-19 and didn’t want to have the debate online.

On March 8, Biden was asked if he would agree to debate Trump. He said he would only do it if Trump behaved well. During the first 2020 debate, the president was annoyed by his opponent and even told him to be quiet at one point.

Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, who work for Trump’s campaign, wrote a letter saying that President Trump is ready to debate at any time and any place. They think the debates should start now.

They mentioned the seven debates that happened in 1858 between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas in Illinois. They said that today’s America also deserves the same kind of debates.

The Republican National Committee decided in 2022 that they will not be part of debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates anymore. The Trump campaign has not said it would follow those rules, but they did have some conditions. The people in charge of the campaign said that the commission picked a moderator, Chris Wallace from Fox News, who is clearly against Trump. They want to make sure that the debates organized by the commission are fair and neutral.

The Trump campaign is asking for the schedule to be changed because they think a lot of people will have already cast their votes by September. October 16thOn October 1st. On September 9th, the commission set the dates for three debates.

The Biden campaign didn’t have anything to say about the news organizations’ letter because they referred to the president’s earlier statement. The Trump campaign did not respond right away.

On Saturday, Trump had a rally in northeastern Pennsylvania. There were two stands on the stage – one for him to give a speech, and the other to show that Biden didn’t want to debate him. The second stand had a sign that said, “Anytime. ”

During his speech, Trump looked to his right and pointed to the second lectern.

“We have something small for him,” he said, pointing to it. “Hey, look at the stage. I want Crooked Joe Biden to debate me whenever and wherever. ” OverWe need to have a discussion because our country is heading in the wrong direction, and we need to do it soon, even though it’s a little early. We need to tell the American people what is happening.

C-SPAN, NewsNation, and Univision also want debates to happen. Only USA Today newspaper said something about it.

Definitely, the TV and radio stations could benefit from the energy and excitement that debates can bring. TV news has fewer people watching it now compared to when the 2020 campaign was happening. This is because more people are canceling their cable subscriptions and the pandemic also made people more interested in news four years ago.

There were no discussions between the Democratic candidates for president this time. Trump’s decision not to take part in the Republican debates made people less interested in them.

  • Immigration is major source of violent crime in United States – Trump

Immigration is major source of violent crime in United States – Trump

Donald Trump claims that illegal migrants are contributing to a surge in violent crimes in the US. He is talked about this in his campaign as he fights to become president again. He has said these things before when he ran for president the first time. But research shows that immigrants are not more likely to commit crimes.

What is Trump talking about regarding immigrants and crime.

The ex-president, Donald Trump, is running against Joe Biden in the upcoming elections. He wants to make the borders stronger because he thinks immigrants illegally in the US are committing crimes.

Trump says that Biden’s rules are too lenient and he has called crimes committed by immigrants who are not allowed to be in the country as “Biden migrant crime. ”

Trump has used mean words to talk about immigrants who are in the US without permission. He called them “animals” when talking about crimes they are accused of. He also said they are “poisoning the blood of our country,” which some people criticized as being mean and sounding like what the Nazis used to say.

Recently, Trump and Republicans are looking at the case of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Georgia who was allegedly killed by someone from Venezuela who was in the country without permission.

The Republican National Committee made a website called “Biden Bloodbath” that shows stories about migrants in eight US states, including Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

What did Biden do in response.

During his speech in March, Biden was stopped by Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is a Republican. She wanted Biden to talk about the murder.

Biden said that Riley was a innocent woman who was killed by someone who wasn’t supposed to be in the country. Then he asked how many people were killed by people who are in the country legally.

Biden admitted he made a mistake by using the word “illegal” to describe Riley’s accused killer. He said he should have used the word “undocumented” instead.

Biden’s head border official, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, said last week that he strongly disagrees with trying to make all migrants look bad because of the actions of one person.

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said earlier this month that strong language was being used to divide our country.

  • Appeals Court denies Trump’s bid to postpone his criminal trial for hush money until April 15

Appeals Court denies Trump’s bid to postpone his criminal trial for hush money until April 15

A judge in New York refused to delay Donald Trump’s trial for paying hush money. Trump wanted to delay the trial because he is fighting a rule that stops him from talking about the case. But the judge quickly said no.

Judge Cynthia Kern’s decision was the second time in two days that the state’s appeals court said no to delaying the trial, which is supposed to start next week. This makes it even harder for Trump’s legal team to postpone the trial like they wanted to.

Trump’s lawyers asked to postpone the trial so that a larger group of judges could decide whether he should be allowed to talk publicly about the people involved in the hush-money case.

They say that the rule to not speak publicly is against the law and stops the likely Republican nominee from talking to the public while he is running for president and dealing with criminal charges.

“The damage caused by this gag order to the First Amendment cannot be fixed,” said Trump’s lawyer, Emil Bove, during a quick hearing on Tuesday at the state’s appeals court.

Bove said Trump should be allowed to speak freely, even though his former lawyer Michael Cohen and porn actor Stormy Daniels often criticize him. Both of them are important witnesses for the prosecution.

Bove said the order unfairly limits Trump’s ability to speak out about the case and share his views with the public. It also restricts the public’s right to hear from him.

Steven Wu, who is the head of appeals at the Manhattan district attorney’s office, argued that it is important to protect the fairness of the trial for the public.

“What we are discussing is that the defendant has a history of making hurtful comments about people involved in the case,” Wu said. This is not a discussion about politics. These are mean and hurtful words.

Wu said that some witnesses are afraid to testify because they don’t want their names in the news. Wu didn’t say who they are, but he mentioned that they are people who can talk about how records are kept.

The gag order allows Trump to talk about many different topics. He can also comment on Judge Juan M. Merchan and District Attorney Alvin Bragg can make political arguments when he wants to. Trump has criticized Bragg, who is a Democrat, and the judge many times.

If no more legal action happens, the process of choosing jurors will start on April 15th.

Last month, Merchan was told by prosecutors to not talk about a certain topic. Then, last week, he made the rule even stricter by saying no one can talk about his family. This happened because Trump said bad things on social media about the judge’s daughter, who works for the Democratic party, and said things that weren’t true.

On Tuesday, Trump’s lawyers had to go to court for the second day in a row. Judge Lizbeth González said no to their request to wait for the trial to be postponed while Trump tries to move his case out of Manhattan, where there are many Democratic people.

Trump’s lawyers made their request to limit speech look like a case against Merchan. In New York, people can take judges to court under Article 78 to question some of their decisions.

Before, Trump has tried this tactic when he wanted to delay his New York civil fraud trial but it didn’t work. He also did it when the judge told people involved in the trial not to talk about court workers. That request came after Trump criticized the judge’s main law assistant on social media.

One judge lifted the rule that stopped people from talking about the trial, but another group of judges put the rule back two weeks later.

Trump’s hush-money criminal case is about claims that he changed his company’s records to hide the payments he made to Cohen. Cohen helped Trump keep bad news out of the media during his 2016 campaign. Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about her affair with Trump.

Last year, Trump said he didn’t do the 34 crimes of lying about business records. He said he did not have sex with Daniels. His lawyers say that the money given to Cohen was used for legal expenses and was completely legal.

Trump has tried many times to delay the trial.

Last week, Merchan kept saying no to requests to delay the trial, and Trump asked the judge to leave the case again. The judge said no to a request that was the same in August.

Trump’s lawyers say the judge is not fair to him and has a problem because his daughter works for a company that helps Democrats, including President Joe Biden. Trump’s lawyers complained that the new gag order was protecting the Merchans from valid public criticism.

Merchan had been avoiding putting a restriction on talking. At Trump’s court appearance in April 2023, he warned Trump not to say things that could make people violent or unsafe, but didn’t completely silence him. At the next meeting, Merchan mentioned that Trump is a former president and current candidate. He said he is making extra effort to give Trump every chance to talk about his campaign.

Merchan started to worry more and more about Trump’s words causing problems during the important trial as it got closer. He said he had to make sure the trial was fair and honest, so he told everyone to stop talking about it. This was more important than people’s right to free speech.

Trump responded on social media that he thought the gag order was illegal and against American laws. He said Merchan was trying to stop him from speaking out against Democratic rivals using the law enforcement system for their own purposes.

Trump said something about Merchan without proof. He suggested that Merchan made decisions based on his daughter’s job and claimed that Merchan posted a photo of Trump behind bars on social media. But court officials said that the claim was not true.

After the outburst, Merchan made the gag order bigger on April 1. Trump can’t talk about the judge’s family or Bragg’s family.

“Trump said, ‘Why can they talk about me but I can’t talk about them. ‘ on his Truth Social platform. “

  • Trump opposes ban on abortion nationwide

Trump opposes ban on abortion nationwide

Former President Donald Trump said on Monday that he thinks each state should decide their own rules about abortion. He made a video where he talked about this and didn’t say he supports a national ban on abortion, after giving different opinions before.

“Many people want to know my thoughts on abortion and abortion rights,” Trump said in the video on his Truth Social website. I think that now that abortion is legal, each state will decide if it is allowed through voting or making laws. And whatever they choose will be the rule for everyone in the state.

In the video, Trump did not say when he thinks abortion should be banned during pregnancy. He didn’t support a national cutoff that Democrats could use against him in the upcoming election. However, by supporting the mix of different ideas, he can be linked to the toughest state laws that President Joe Biden and his campaign are trying to connect him to.

Anti-abortion activists were really upset that Trump didn’t do more.

In the video, he said he did something good for the United States. “The Supreme Court decided to stop Roe v. ” Wade said he was happy that he was the one who ended the law about abortions, and he thanked the conservative judges who helped overturn it.

He once again said he supports three exceptions in certain cases, like when a woman is raped, there’s incest, or the mother’s life is in danger. He also talked about how different states have different rules about abortion after the court’s Dobbs v. caseWade decision, has sparked a lot of controversy and debate. The decision could have a big impact on women’s rights and access to abortion in the United States. Wade decision explained simply.

“A lot of states will change. ” “Some will have more weeks than others, and that’s just how it is,” he said. “In the end, it’s all about what the people want. ”

Trump believed that the Supreme Court’s decision on abortion gave people who are against it a lot of power to make deals. He wanted to use this power to make both sides happy and bring the country together. Abortion is a very controversial issue in American politics, with some people thinking it’s murder and others thinking it’s a right for women.

SBA Pro-Life America, a major organization against abortion, quickly criticized the announcement.

“The group’s president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, said she is very unhappy with President Trump’s decision,” “Unborn babies and their mothers should be protected by the government and supported by the whole country from the harm caused by abortions. ” The Dobbs decision gives permission for both states and Congress to take action.

SenatorLindsey Graham, a politician from South Carolina who supports Trump, disagrees with him about whether states should make their own rules about abortion. Mike Pence, who is against abortion and was Trump’s vice president, is now competing with him to be the Republican nominee for this year. He has also said that he will not support Trump. This has upset many pro-life supporters of Trump.

Trump went on a social media app called Truth Social on Monday and criticized his critics. He said that Dannenfelser and Graham were not helpful and blamed them for the Democrats winning elections. He also told Graham to focus on the wars that he supports, where many people are dying.

Biden’s team acted fast, using the opportunity to their advantage. Spokesperson Ammar Moussa posted on X that Trump supports all abortion bans, even those with no exceptions. “and he’s proudly talking about his part in making this terrible place. ”

Biden said Trump is to blame for causing cruelty and chaos in America since the Dobbs decision. He said women are being denied medical care and forced to travel long distances for help.

“Trump is facing problems and he is aware of it,” Biden mentioned at a fundraiser in Chicago on Monday.

Jenny Lawson, who runs Planned Parenthood Votes, said she is sure that the people who said no to anti-abortion laws in the past will do the same in the 2024 election against Donald Trump and his supporters.

During a Biden campaign call, a Texas mom named Kaitlyn Kash talked to reporters about her struggles. She had to go to another state for medical care after she lost one baby, and then had trouble getting a procedure after giving birth to a healthy baby. She blames Trump for making it harder for her to get the care she needed.

“Kash said that what happened to me was avoidable, but it happened because of Donald Trump. ”

Biden’s team made a commercial with a woman from Texas named Amanda Zurawski. She almost died twice because she couldn’t get help for a miscarriage, due to a law in Texas that blocks abortions. This law was made because of Donald Trump’s decision to overturn Roe v. WadeWade

Last month, Trump said in a radio interview that he was thinking about supporting a national ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. But he also seemed unsure about making it a law for the whole country.

Republican-controlled states have put in place many new rules after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. Wade, go ahead. Over 12 states run by the GOP have made abortion illegal, and others have made the time allowed for getting an abortion shorter.

Other procedures related to making babies have had limits, like in vitro fertilization. It became a big issue in a campaign after the Alabama Supreme Court said this year that frozen embryos can be seen as children by the law. Trump said he really wants IVF to be available. The government officials in Alabama and the Republican Governor. Kay Ivey said that she will make sure that IVF providers can’t be sued for any mistakes they make.

Democrats think that supporting abortion rights makes more people vote for them, and they have done better than expected in elections as a result. Voters in seven states voted to support abortion rights. Abortion will also be on the ballot in more states like Florida, Maryland, and New York this year.

Trump has been talking about abortion during the campaign. He says he is very against it, but he also blames other Republicans for the party’s losses in 2022 because they didn’t allow any exceptions.

In the video, Trump told Republicans to listen to their feelings about this issue. But keep in mind, you also need to win elections to bring back our culture and save our country, which is currently declining.

Instead, he has tried to make Democrats look like the extreme ones on this issue.

Democrats and Biden’s team have been focusing on this problem as they try to show the differences between them and Trump.

Most surveys have found that the majority of Americans think that abortion should be allowed in the early stages of pregnancy. Roughly half of American adults think women should be able to have an abortion at 15 weeks, a recent survey found.

Information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tells us that most abortions between 2012 and 2021 happened during the first 13 weeks of pregnancy.

  • Prosecutors want US Court to dismiss Trump’s claims against immunity in election subversion case

Prosecutors want US Court to dismiss Trump’s claims against immunity in election subversion case

Special investigator Jack Smith’s group has asked the US Supreme Court on Monday night to deny former President Donald Trump’s argument that he cannot be prosecuted in a case accusing him of plotting to change the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The prosecutors sent their request to the judges a little more than two weeks before they will discuss whether a former president can be accused of crimes for things they did while in the White House, which has never been tested legally.

“They said that the President’s plan to use his power to change the election and stop the peaceful transfer of power goes against the rules that protect democracy. ”

The result of the April 25 arguments will help decide if Trump will go to trial this year for trying to stop the peaceful transfer of power after losing the 2020 election.

Trump says that former presidents cannot be held responsible for things they did while they were in office. Both the judge in charge of the case, Tanya Chutkan, and a three-judge federal appeals panel in Washington strongly denied that argument.

The highest court in the US said it will consider the question, making it unclear if the case against Trump can go to trial before the election. Trump is facing four criminal prosecutions and is the likely Republican nominee for president.

In their recent report, Smith’s team repeated a lot of the same arguments from lower courts, specifically mentioning that “federal criminal law applies to the president. ”

The people who wrote the rules for the country did not say that a former President could not be charged with a crime. Every President from the beginning of the country to now knows that they could be charged with a crime for things they did while in office, even after they are no longer President.

The prosecutors mentioned that even if the highest court agrees that a president has some protection for their official actions, they should still allow the case to continue because a lot of the charges are about Trump’s personal behavior.

Smith’s team said that the court could decide that Trump is not protected from being sued in this case, without making a decision that would affect other cases.

“They said that if the person accused of crimes is not protected from punishment, then the case will be resolved. But there might be other difficult questions to answer in the future if different situations come up. “

  • Trump asks for different judge prior to his hush-money criminal trial

Trump asks for different judge prior to his hush-money criminal trial

Ex-President Donald Trump wants a different judge for his hush-money trial, even though it’s about to start. He’s unhappy with the current judge and is trying a last-minute move to cause problems and make the trial take longer.

Trump’s lawyers recently told Judge Juan M. in Manhattan that they agree with Trump’s complaints on social media. Merchan is stepping off the case because he thinks he might be treated unfairly because his daughter works for the Democratic party. The judge said no to a request that was the same last August.

Trump’s appeal is pending before the District of Columbia Circuit. Therefore, the lawyers are asking for the judge to recuse herself from the case. Merchan is making money and improving their reputation because this case is getting in the way of Trump’s campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

The court case will start on April 15th. This is the first of four cases against Trump that will go to trial. It would also be the first time a former president has a trial for a crime.

Merchan didn’t make a decision right away. He can make the decision by himself. If he leaves, the trial schedule will be messed up and Trump will get a delay he has wanted while a new judge gets familiar with the case.

We left messages asking for a comment from a court spokesperson and from Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan. The Manhattan district attorney’s office said there is no need for Merchan to step aside.

The lawyer for Loren Merchan says that her business is not benefiting from her father’s choices, but the prosecutor doesn’t agree. He wrote a letter to the judge saying that there isn’t enough evidence to prove this.

“This series of hints is far from proving that Judge Merchan has a personal or financial interest in reaching a specific conclusion,” according to Colangelo.

Loren Merchan is the boss of Authentic Campaigns and has gotten at least $70 million from Democratic candidates and causes since starting the company in 2018.

The company has worked with important people like President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and a big political group connected to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. According to campaign finance disclosures, Senate Majority PAC has given $15. 2 million to Authentic Campaigns.

On Friday, Merchan stopped Trump’s lawyers from making NBC give them documents about a documentary on Stormy Daniels, a important witness in the case. He decided that the defense’s request for information was too broad and not necessary for them to have.

On Wednesday, Merchan said no to the Republican nominee’s request to wait for the Supreme Court’s decision before starting the trial. This decision was related to the claims of presidential immunity in a different case. The judge has not decided yet on the defense’s request for a delay. They say they won’t get a fair trial because the media has said bad things about them.

The hush money case is about claims that Trump lied about his company’s records to hide payments to his former lawyer, who helped Trump keep bad news quiet during his 2016 campaign. Cohen gave Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about her relationship with Trump.

Last year, Trump said he did not do the 34 bad things he was accused of, of lying about his business records. He said he didn’t have sex with Daniels. His lawyers say that the money given to Cohen was used for legal expenses that were allowed by law.

Trump hinted that his lawyers will try again to get the judge to leave the case by making critical posts about the judge and his daughter on his Truth Social platform.

Trump said, without proof, that Merchan’s decisions, like putting a limit on what Trump can say in public, were influenced by his daughter’s job. He falsely said that she had posted a picture on social media showing him in jail. Trump’s criticism of Lauren Merchan caused the judge to make a rule that he can’t talk about his family in public.

“The judge needs to step down now and correct the mistake of not doing so last year,” Trump wrote on March 27th. “If the unfair and conflicted judge is allowed to continue with this fake ‘case,’ it will be another unfortunate example of our country becoming like a corrupt, unstable government, not the America we once knew and loved. ”

Trump also asked the judge in his election interference case in Washington, DC, to step down because he thought her past comments about him might make her unfair. But Judge Tanya Chutkan said she doesn’t need to leave her position.

Last year, the defence requested that Merchan should not be involved in the case because his daughter was closely involved. They also took some small donations that the judge gave to Democratic causes during the 2020 campaign. They added up to $35 in total, with $15 going to Biden.

Merchan said no to the request. He said that a legal group found that his work did not affect how fair he is. He wrote this in August. The judge said he was sure he could be fair and impartial. He also said that Trump’s lawyers did not show any good reasons for him to step down from the case.

Trump’s lawyers say things are different now because Trump is running against President Joe Biden again. Democrats, including clients of Loren Merchan’s firm, are trying to raise money by talking about Trump’s legal problems in emails about the hush-money case.

“Most New Yorkers would not be okay with the judge in charge of this case having a grown-up child who works at WinRed or MAGA Inc. ,” Blanche and Necheles said. They were talking about a platform that raises money for Republicans and a committee that raises money for Trump.

Judge rejects Trump’s request to drop prosecution over sensitive documents

The judge denied the motion to drop the case against Donald Trump for concealing confidential government papers.Trump’s defense said the case should be dropped because he was a former president and should be allowed to keep the records. But the judge said no.

Donald Trump’s lawyers said that a law from 1978 called the Presidential Records Act allowed him to take his records from his time as President with him when he left the White House.

Lawyers working for special counsel Jack Smith strongly disagreed with that idea, saying that the law didn’t apply to a case about secret documents.

US District Judge Aileen Cannon agreed with the government in a short order, saying that the indictment does not mention the Presidential Records Act, and does not use it to describe a crime.

  • Judge in Trump classified materials case chastised by prosecutors for her “fundamentally flawed”

Judge in Trump classified materials case chastised by prosecutors for her “fundamentally flawed”

Federal prosecutors scolded the judge in charge of former President Trump‘s case in Florida. They told her not to use jury instructions that are based on a bad legal idea.

In an unusual way, Judge Aileen Cannon told the prosecutors and defense lawyers to submit suggestions for jury instructions for most of the charges, even though it’s not clear when the trial will happen. She asked the lawyers to give their opinions on different explanations of the law. These explanations seem to support the argument of the former Republican president that he was allowed to keep the important documents that he has been accused of having.

Legal experts were surprised by the decision and Jack Smith’s team was worried. They said on Tuesday that a law from 1978 doesn’t apply in this case about very secret documents. This law says presidents have to give back official records when they leave office, but they can keep personal ones.

Prosecutors said that those documents were not personal and there is no evidence that Trump ever marked them as his own. They said he only made up the suggestion after people found out he took boxes of records from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago estate. And the people they talked to didn’t support his argument.

“No one heard Trump say he was making records personal or that when he moved the boxes to Mar-a-Lago, he thought he was making them personal under the PRA,” prosecutors stated. “Actually, none of the witnesses knew anything about it when asked. ”

The team of Smith said that if the judge keeps on mentioning the law about presidential records in her instructions to the jury, she should tell the lawyers right away so they can ask for a review.

The documents show that the prosecutors are still frustrated with how Cannon is dealing with the case.

The judge chosen by Trump has not made a decision on several requests to end the case. There are also other arguments between the two sides, and the date for the trial is still not decided. This means that the case, which Smith’s team says has a lot of evidence, might not be finished by the time of the November election.

Cannon was criticized for allowing an independent person to review documents from an FBI search of Mar-a-Lago after Trump requested it. Last month, Cannon listened to arguments about two of Trump’s requests to dismiss the case: one that said the Presidential Records Act allowed him to call the documents personal, and another that said he was allowed to keep them because of that.

The judge seemed unsure about that argument but didn’t make a decision right away. Days after, she told both sides to create jury instructions that answered this question: “Can a president decide by himself which records are personal or presidential during his time in office. ” Neither a judge nor a group of people in a court can decide or look at that type of decision.

The former president’s choice to keep personal records instead of giving them back to the government, means that the president sees those records as personal under the PRA.

Prosecutors said that the way they understood the law is incorrect. They also told Cannon to quickly reject the defence motion to dismiss.

They said that the difference between personal and presidential records doesn’t matter when it comes to a former President having documents with national defense information. The law that makes it a crime to keep national defense information illegally should not consider the Presidential Records Act when giving instructions to the jury.

“They said that according to the information we have now, the PRA should not be involved in the trial. ”

Trump, who is expected to be the Republican candidate for the 2024 election, is accused of breaking the law by sharing secret documents. He could be charged with many serious crimes related to this. The former president is facing four criminal cases in Florida. He says he didn’t do anything wrong in any of them.
