Ghanaian artiste Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has reconciled with fellow musician D-Black following a dispute triggered by a controversial video.

In an interview on Starr FM, Medikal expressed his displeasure over a video showing D-Black and Medikal’s estranged wife, Fella Makafui, sharing a cigarette, which he found deeply upsetting.

Medikal admitted that the incident provoked him to use offensive language towards D-Black and publicly announce a separation from his wife.

During the interview, D-Black joined Medikal in the studio to share his perspective, leading to a resolution between the two musicians.

They exchanged handshakes and embraced, signaling the end of their disagreement.

Their exchange during the interview went as follows:

Medikal: I’m uncomfortable with the idea that people might suspect an affair between my wife and someone else.

D-Black: Brother, you should’ve reached out to me for clarification upon seeing the video.

Medikal: My issue is that you seem oblivious to the problem, as you continue to justify your actions.

D-Black: I’m offering explanations because there’s a misconception that I’m involved with her. I receive messages about it daily, including one this morning. Hence, I apologize for the incident.

Medikal: And I apologize for using the F word on you.

This reconciliation follows criticism directed at D-Black for fraternizing with Fella Makafui and smoking with her at a club, particularly during the time of her widely discussed separation from Medikal.

In a series of tweets addressing the controversy for the first time, D-Black explained that he did not hand Fella the cigar but only lit it for her at her request.

Ghana’s current economic predicament requires radical action –  Reggie Rockstone

Renowned hip-life icon Reggie Rockstone has proposed an unconventional approach to tackle the economic challenges facing Ghana and the broader African continent.

Rockstone, known for his outspoken views, believes that Africa is currently grappling with severe neocolonialism and imperialism.

In a recent interview on the Unkut Show hosted by rapper D-Black, Rockstone expressed his frustration with the state of affairs, emphasizing the need for decisive action.

He called for radical measures, including imprisonment and even execution of those responsible for perpetuating the economic crisis while leading extravagant lifestyles at the expense of the population.

Rockstone stated, “Africa is moving sideways, Ghana is struggling, and we can’t rely solely on political parties like NPP and NDC to fix things. We need to overhaul everything. Some people need to be held accountable, even if it means locking them up or taking more extreme measures.”

While acknowledging the gravity of his proposal, Rockstone underscored the urgency of addressing poverty-related deaths and the stark contrast with lavish living.

“Africa on the whole is moving sideways, Ghana is not doing too good, and I don’t want to hear no NPP and NDC.

“What would I change? Everything! They need to lock some people up. You could begin with that; that’s a deterrent. That’s the only way, black people; that’s how we rock. Especially we Africans, You’ve got to show them. Lock some folks up; some people have got to be shot.”

He argued that diverting attention to music and entertainment, while important, often sidelines critical issues that demand immediate attention.

“In saying this, it might sound too drastic to you but do you realize how many people poverty kills? And you’ve got folks out here living the life; folks out here living lavish. Listen when somebody dies because they cannot afford hospital treatment that’s murder,” he stated during a recent appearance on the Unkut Show hosted by rapper D-Black.

Rockstone’s impassioned plea for drastic action against neo-colonial forces resonates with ongoing discussions about economic sovereignty and social justice in Africa.

In an episode of his show “Uncut with D-Black,” the artist disclosed that he initially received a professional-looking email inviting him to the awards ceremony where he was declared a winner.

Believing the invitation’s legitimacy due to its association with the United Nations, D-Black almost attended the event with his mother but was deterred by the mismatch between the number of invitations received and his crew size.

“So, you will see the crest, the company name, you will see the United Nation. Do you know the funniest thing? I almost went to that event with my mother because of the United Nation and the achievement but I did not go with my mum because I had seven invitations and my crew was eight people so the driver had to stay in the car and the seven of us went,” D-Black recounted on his show.

Upon arriving at the event venue, D-Black observed rapper Sarkodie already present with his security team, anticipating the fake awards ceremony.

Despite sensing something amiss during Dr. UN’s speech, D-Black remained intrigued when called to accept his award and even posed for pictures.

“When I got there Sarkodie had come with security, management and in suit.

“When the guy [Dr.UN] started talking he was making grammatical errors. He said he went to Harvard but every sentence he says, he will make grammatical errors. I was told the Guest of Honour was Information Minister and President Akufo-Addo and I was very good friends with the personal photographer for President Akufo-Addo but he never told me about that event.

“I did not see the Information Minister but I saw some chiefs and Daughters of Glorious Jesus so I was convinced because they are very respectable people.

“When he started talking, I wanted to leave with my crew. Suddenly, Sarkodie was awarded and was asked to stay and help with the presentation of the awards.

“I was just about to leave the event grounds when I was called for my award and went for the award and took nice pictures.

D-Black believes the crew which worked with Dr. UN to organise the awards were all “fooled” just as he was.

“The guy is a full-blown scammer,” D-Black stated.

Reflecting on the incident, D-Black expressed disbelief at being duped and noted that other reputable figures, including Sarkodie and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, also fell victim to the scam.

He labeled Dr. UN as a “full-blown scammer,” highlighting the widespread deception orchestrated by the fake award scheme.

During a recent appearance on  Desmond Kwesi Blackmore known popularly as D-Black‘s Unkut show, comedian Derick Kobina Bonney popularly known as DKB shared a personal experience prompted by rapper Trigmatic’s recollection of finding him in tears.

Trigmatic recounted encountering DKB at Trade Fair, where the comedian looked visibly upset.

“I met DKB at Trade Fair sometime ago. I was supposed to perform, but they hadn’t called me yet. So, I decided to walk around. I noticed someone sitting in a car with the engine running, and I thought, ‘That must be DKB.’ I approached him and asked, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ I could see that his eyes were red, and tears were welling up,” Trigmatic explained.

Taking ownership of his experience, DKB revealed that the cause of his distress was a recent heartbreak. His then-girlfriend had abruptly ended their relationship, citing his belly fat as the reason.

“I was there, and she said I gained belly fat, so she couldn’t continue with me. Do you know the painful part? I had paid for a gym for her to get in shape,” DKB recounted.

I sing in Twi, Ga to boost my music career – D-Black

Renowned rapper Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, known by his stage name D-Black, shared insights into his early career tactics, highlighting strategic collaborations as the key to his mainstream breakthrough.

Speaking on his show ‘Uncut,’ D-Black disclosed that aligning with artists boasting substantial followings and singing in local dialects was instrumental in dispelling misconceptions about his nationality and amplifying his music’s appeal.

The ‘Vera’ hit-maker emphasized the importance of choosing collaborators who not only resonated with the masses but also incorporated languages like Twi.

By breaking the language barrier, D-Black effectively connected with a broader audience, addressing perceptions that his English-language raps might suggest otherwise.

D-Black reflected on the music landscape of that time, noting the limited commercial presence of Hip-hop in Ghana.

“It (Hiphop) didn’t exist commercially, people were doing it but the songs were not huge…My strategy was to always do a Hip-hop song with an artiste who was singing in a local dialect. So I will do a song with Kwabena Kwabena so that his fans or the rest of Ghana will listen to it. Just doing those collaborations I think is what broke me into the commercial scene,” D-Black said.

He strategically chose artists, such as Kwabena Kwabena, with whom he collaborated on Hip-hop tracks infused with local dialects.

“As soon as it happened for me Ghana Music Awards created Hip Hop Song of the Year because there was nowhere to fit me in. You couldn’t fit me in hiplife, so as soon as that category came I won that and it continued,” D-Black added.

This approach, as D-Black asserted, played a pivotal role in propelling him into the commercial scene, garnering more listeners and followers along the way.

He recounted a learning experience where a Nigerian musician persuaded a studio owner to allow him to record even after closing hours.

In drawing a comparison, Camidoh expressed his belief that Ghanaians could benefit from adopting a more assertive and determined approach, similar to their Nigerian counterparts.

He remarked, “We’re not as exploiting as Nigerians. That’s the only problem. When I put out Sugar Cane, I remember how I used to call people every day. ‘You don’t do some TikTok video. What’s up?’ because that’s what Nigerians are. That’s who they are. Like, they go pursue you, make you do what you have to do.

“It’s about the drive. Because you can now make me want to do something, even though I didn’t want to do it. It’s about you. How much do you want it? And that’s one thing I work with. When I saw that guy’s drive, I said to myself that even if the store was closed, I can make them sell to me. And that’s one thing I feel like many Ghanaians don’t have. For me, it’s about, do you want this song to be played? If you want it to be played, go to that DJ. Make it happen,” Camidoh stated.

Camidoh emphasized the importance of drive and determination, citing how Nigerians actively pursue opportunities for their music.

He urged Ghanaian musicians to take initiative, engage with their craft, approach DJs, and seize control of their success, echoing the proactive ethos prevalent in the Nigerian music scene.

His statements prompt a call for greater recognition and inclusion of diverse cultural influences within the Ghanaian music space.

“Most of our radio stations in our media space have chosen one particular language that they will promote. There is a very good rapper in the north who actually raps in D’agati or Sissala but he can’t fluently speak Twi or pidgin…if you take that music to Accra. It won’t get up to two airplays,” Jupitar remarked.

In a tweet, he stated, “this whole industry is a set up, and if you be ‘Ga’ like myself, @shattawalegh, @iamkingpromise, or @dkbghana, etc., certain kinda support you go suffer or you no go get kraa no matter the effort.”

Jupitar, known for hits like ‘Enemies,’ ‘Badness,’ and ‘Moni Konika,’ continues to advocate for inclusivity and diversity in the Ghanaian music industry.

Dancehall sensation Jupitar laments the lack of visibility of Twi songs on radio stations

In a recent interview on D-Black’s Uncut show, reggae and dancehall artist Jupitar raised his dissatisfaction with the apparent lack of promotion for songs in Twi language on radio stations in Ghana.

Jupitar criticised the predominant focus on promoting music in Twi or Pidgin, asserting that talented rappers in other regions of Ghana are being overlooked because their songs are in their native languages.

He highlighted the challenges faced by a northern rapper who performs in Dagati or Sissala, languages not widely spoken in the southern part of the country.

Using the example of Fancy Gadam‘s ‘Total Cheat,’ Jupitar emphasised the success of songs that incorporate Pidgin English, but he urged the industry to embrace diversity in language.

Drawing comparisons with South African artist Focalistic and Nigerian artists Phyno and Asake, Jupitar pointed out that songs in native languages are appreciated across diverse tribes in those countries.

He urged the Ghanaian creative space not to limit songs to one language.

This isn’t the first time Jupitar has spoken out against perceived biases in the industry.

Last year, he expressed frustration about the lack of support for musicians from certain tribes, specifically mentioning the Ga tribe.

Combining music and having a married life is “suicidal” – Jupitar

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall icon, Jupitar, recently delved into the hurdles he faced while attempting to balance his booming music career with family life.

In a candid interview on the “Uncut with D-Black” show, Jupitar labeled the music industry’s demanding nature as “suicidal” when endeavoring to establish a family.

Despite recognizing the inherent difficulties, he admitted to occasionally making compromises in an effort to strike a harmonious balance, acknowledging that sacrifices are an unavoidable aspect of his dual responsibilities.

Jupitar underscored the ongoing struggle to synchronise his music career with family obligations, emphasising the inevitability of sacrifices to navigate both realms effectively.

“Even aside from maturity, music itself is a complex business. Combining music and family is incredibly tough. It’s a challenging decision for a musician to settle down while still pursuing this demanding career. It’s suicidal, I won’t lie.

“I try as much as possible to sometimes bend the rules. Even if I come home at ten, I might come home the next morning. I won’t make it a regular occurrence. Striking the right balance is quite difficult,” he added.

Jupitar stands as one of Ghana’s prominent reggae and dancehall artists, renowned for hit songs like “Money Box,” “Enemies,” and “Smile.”

  • D-Black shares his bit of why Nigerian artistes are doing better than Ghanaian artistes

Ghanaian rapper and singer Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, widely known as D-Black, attributes the greater success of Nigerian artists compared to their Ghanaian counterparts to their business-oriented approach.

He observes that Nigerian artists prioritize the business side of the industry, while many Ghanaian artists create music primarily for the love of the art.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Afrobeats Podcast, D-Black said, “Why Nigerian records are flying higher than the Ghanaian ones is because Ghanaian artists don’t really care about the money.

“They don’t care about the business. It’s just the love of art that overpowers everything. There’s really no business behind it.

“BET nomination, all the accolades, I made no money. But as soon as I switched to the commercial mood of Afrobeats, I bought my Ferrari and Range Rover. I was everywhere.

He emphasised that relying solely on talent is insufficient and suggested that artists should utilise social media to amplify the business aspect of their craft.

“Artistes and creatives need to understand that music alone is not enough. You need to get up and grind. You need to take advantage of social media to promote your craft.”

  • D-Black reveals the real reason behind Castro’s hit song Seihor

Ghanaian musician D-Black has shared the backstory behind the popular hit single ‘Seihor’ by the late highlife musician, Theophilus Tagoe, commonly known as Castro.

According to D-Black, the song ‘Seihor’ by Castro was originally created to criticize Charterhouse for not awarding him an accolade he believed he deserved. He explained that Castro was deeply upset when he did not win an award at the Ghana Music Awards organized by Charterhouse.

During an interview with Okay FM, D-Black recounted how Castro conceived the hit song ‘Seihor’ out of frustration for not receiving an award.

Castro started freestyling on the beat that was ‘Seihor’ but the song was a diss to Charterhouse; that’s Ghana Music awards. Because there was an award that he thought he deserved that he did not win,” he said.

“It was a song with Asamoah Gyan and Kofi Kinaata so he was angry about not winning the award. He asked me to do a song to diss Charterhouse but I told him we should make it normal then he eventually agreed.

“So we changed it from a diss song to a normal song. After we mixed itCastro called and said this is going to be my first single and I will drop it on my birthday. Then it all got released around the same period,” D-Black narrated in an interview with Okay FM.

  • Get to know the businesses owned by D-Black

Rapper and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Black Avenue Music, D-Black, has disclosed his business ventures in Ghana alongside his music career.

He revealed that Black Avenue Works was his initial business venture, established with income generated from music.

Subsequently, he ventured into other business projects that have contributed to his economic stability.

D-Black also highlighted the formation of Black Avenue Music, his prominent record label. He emphasized that he co-founded it with fellow musicians, including Joey B and DJ Breezy. During an interview on JoyPrime’s CelebBiz, he elaborated on his various businesses in Ghana and how he manages to ensure their success.

“The first one was the first thing I did before even getting into music and that was advertising and marketing. So I was doing that, and that’s where I got the money to invest in my music. So it was a company I started called Black Avenue Works,” he said.

He continued: “And then when I invested in music, I started a record label, Black Avenue Music. So it was me, Joey B, and DJ Breezy, that’s how I started that company. And then I took a break from music in 2016, around the time when Castro disappeared and I went into events. So I started livewire events. We did Bukom Banku versus Ayittey Powers Celebrity soccer, and a host of events so that was my third company.

“And then I started doing branding that’s Volcano; then I built Club Onyx that’s number five. Then Oasis Lounge that’s number six. Number seven is the Casablanca Lounge then Frosty Moon, which is an ice cream franchise business that’s where we eat. And then Twelve Saints is a merchandise store in West Legon, that’s nine. I set up Ramazan and then a food delivery business called ‘Just Order.’ So that’s 11,” D-Black disclosed this in an interview with JoyPrime.

  • “GHAMRO is a terrible organization,there’s no accountability” – D-Black

Rapper and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Black Avenue Musik, D-Black, has strongly criticized the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), labeling them as ineffective organizations.

He expressed deep frustration over GHAMRO’s failure to distribute royalties to musicians, which has had a detrimental impact on the financial well-being of artists, including himself.

D-Black highlighted the lack of accountability within GHAMRO and MUSIGA as a significant obstacle hampering the progress of the music industry and placing many musicians in challenging circumstances.

During an interview on JoyPrime’s Celeb Biz Show, he vented his frustration at GHAMRO for failing to pay his royalties and called for greater transparency and accountability within these organizations.

“If I will speak bluntly, I would say that the structures that are in place for our music industry are terrible. GHAMRO is a terrible organization. There’s no accountability. I don’t know how much revenue I’ve made from GAMRO in my 13 years in the music industry,” he fumed.

“They’ve attempted to [pay the royalties], but there’s no accountability. You can’t tell me, oh, this is what we are giving everybody. It doesn’t make any sense. When we receive our royalties from outside of the country, you get reports.”

He further disclosed that in foreign countries, records of the performance of songs are readily available, but the situation is different in the case of Ghana.

He further indicated that GHAMRO refused to accept assistance from foreign organizations to aid their operations.

“In New Zealand, the song was played 77 times between the months of May and August. On Spotify on, Apple Music, all this data is there. I know companies that are ready to come and assist Ghana for free, to set up organizations to track our music and disburse our royalties properly. GHAMRO refused to do so for whatever reason. I don’t know.”

D-Black laments on current hardship in the country

Businessman and musician Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, better known by his stage name D-Black, claims that Ghana’s difficult economic situation makes doing business there very unappealing.

He claims that all of his businesses, which range from the music industry to the hospitality sector, are being negatively impacted by the constantly rising taxes combined with the unstable exchange rate.

On Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz Saturday, the businessman said that the unfavourable circumstances are drowning his profit margins, which is a major deterrent to innovation and creativity.

“It’s difficult [doing business in Ghana]. The hospitality business is now taxed at 21.9 percent by the GRA. If you’re making GHS1,000, GHS219 is for the government”

“They just audited us. So you have to make sure your books are proper. It’s difficult. Taxes go up every other year. We don’t have proper structures in place as musicians to collect royalties. It’s difficult in all the areas that I’m in. You have to be blessed and very hard-working to be able to manoeuvre yourself and remain in business in such conditions,” he explained.

D-Black’s remarks come in the aftermath of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest in Ghana, in which numerous celebrities, including himself, took part. He believes the current government has lost touch with the realities and is unwilling to address the numerous challenges facing citizens and their livelihoods.

The three-day protest aimed to compel the President and his Economic Management Team to address the country’s economic mismanagement and corruption issues, which the protesters described as widespread.

Mr. Blackmore clarified that he does not endorse politicians but is committed to raising his voice on matters affecting ordinary Ghanaians and struggling businesses.

The ‘Enjoyment Minister’ has no plans to enter politics at this time, as it would require significant persuasion. His primary goal is to advocate for the best interests of Ghana.

D-Black bemoans high cost of living in the country

Ghanaian rapper and Black Avenue Music CEO D-Black expressed regret for having backed the current Akufo-Addo administration in a series of tweets lamenting the state of the nation’s economy.

His outburst was sparked by a throwback post in which he praised President Nana Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for lowering taxes and making spare parts more affordable.

D-Black bemoaned the high cost of living in the country while withdrawing his praise for the government in a series of tweets in 2017.

In a new twist to events, D-Black now shares the assertion that the reduced taxes for which he praised the government back in 2017 was a tactic to lure citizens to believe a false sense of comfort.

“Chale this be the wagadriii dem take catch we all. No be me p3,” he expressed in English and the Akan language.

Replying to fans on claims that he had been silent on the country’s current state, D-Black wrote,

“Never quiet. We in a big mess right now . And we gotta rise to make a change . Or make we move go kenya ?” he called.

The sushi hitmaker joins a list of celebrities who have regretted their open support for the current government due to economic hardships.

After publicly endorsing the NPP party for three years, actor Prince David Osei recently complained on Twitter about the high cost of living in the country.
