He added, “I had to stop working with some of my boys, although some have returned and left again. It’s all part of the process. The priority should always be your career.”

Why I don’t attend church services – Bisa Kdei reveals

Ghanaian Highlife artist Bisa Kdei recently opened up about his discontent with religion and his decision to stop attending church services.

In an interview with Accra’s Hitz FM on September 2, 2024, Bisa Kdei explained that his dissatisfaction stems from the way churches are currently operating, especially concerning their use of social media.

He expressed frustration over how some churches seem to prioritize self-promotion over genuine spiritual growth.
Instead of promoting God, people are promoting themselves, and that bothers me a lot.

“People suffer on the streets; people suffer in churches; they pay their tithes; they pay offerings; and then later on they’ll be suffering. They will come to your DMs and say this and that while you see a pastor driving a big car, living in a big mansion, and all that. It’s a whole lot for me,” he added.

He noted that many people continue to face hardships despite their financial contributions to the church, while seeing pastors living in luxury, which he finds troubling.

Despite his grievances, Bisa Kdei affirmed that he still considers himself a Christian and is contemplating returning to church at some point.

“It’s a whole lot; sometimes I say to myself that maybe I will go very soon,” he stated.

He also mentioned that his wife remains a committed Christian, humorously noting her deep faith.

He said, “My wife is a full believer. It’s almost as though she was there when Jesus Christ was born.”

I’ll endorse a political party only if the money is good- Bisa Kdei

Ghanaian Highlife artist Bisa Kdei has shared that he would only create a song for a political party if the financial offer is substantial.

In a recent interview with Hitz FM in Accra on September 2, 2024, he explained that his decision would be influenced by the money and the potential benefits it could bring him.

“If someone offers me a significant amount that could greatly benefit me, even if it means facing some backlash, I would consider it. But if it’s just a small amount and could cost me fans, then I wouldn’t be interested,” he said.

Bisa Kdei also addressed the common dilemma faced by artists when endorsing political parties, noting that financial needs often drive these decisions rather than genuine political beliefs.

He advised fans to view such endorsements as part of the creative performance and not take them too seriously.

“For many artists, these endorsements are more about financial necessity than actual political alignment. It’s important for fans to understand that,” he added.

‘Year of Return’ initiative isn’t promoting Ghanaian music as expected – Bisa Kdei

Bisa Kdei, a prominent Ghanaian Highlife musician, has expressed frustration over the insufficient promotion of Highlife music in Ghana.

During an interview with Onua TV, he highlighted a concern that the ongoing Year of Return initiative isn’t being leveraged effectively, as local audiences seem to favor foreign genres like Amapiano and Afrobeats over traditional Highlife.

Kdei questioned the cultural message being conveyed to visitors, asking, “When people come to Ghana, what are we showcasing Highlife or Afrobeats?” He argued that the heavy rotation of foreign music in clubs is overshadowing Ghanaian sounds, thus diminishing the impact of Highlife.

He also pointed out that this lack of promotion is impacting the ability of Ghanaian artists to succeed internationally.

“When tourists and diasporans come and hear only Afrobeats, that’s what they take with them. We aren’t doing enough to promote our own culture, and that affects our international appeal,” Kdei noted.

Kdei recounted a specific incident where he challenged a DJ for exclusively playing Nigerian music at a club.

Despite these challenges, he remains dedicated to championing Highlife music, stating, “I’ve chosen Highlife as my career path, and I will continue to fight for it. Being vocal about these issues is crucial to me.”

Bisa Kdei reveals influence of Methodist Preacher behind his decision to boycott church service

Highlife sensation Bisa Kdei revealed that he has ceased attending church services.

The artist expressed that while he remains a devout believer, he chooses to worship privately, citing concerns over exploitative behaviors and a lack of compassion within some religious institutions.

“It’s been a while since I went to church but it doesn’t mean I am not a worshipper of God,” clarified Bisa Kdei, emphasizing that his faith is deeply rooted in his heart.

The musician, known for hits like “Because of Money,” criticised what he sees as a trend of pastors demanding money for prayers and services.

“One needs money for prayers, these days. The pastor has asked for money for his service, where will I find the money? Everybody is using schemes and tricks,” he lamented.

Bisa Kdei expressed dismay at the disparity between wealthy church leaders and struggling congregants, asserting, “I do not want to be part of a church that has a prosperous leader but destitute members.”

He also recounted a personal incident where a pastor refused to pray for his deceased mother because she hadn’t been a regular attendee, leading him to question the sense of such practices.

“When my mother died, a pastor was asked to pray for her but he said my mom had not been coming to church so he would not,” he recounted. “It was a big problem for me so I even suggested to my father to stop going to the church because it doesn’t make sense.

“We were all Methodists of so many years and if you utter these words, it doesn’t make sense,” he stressed, adding he has “a lot of reasons” for staying away from church.

“Now, my offering is given to the needy,” Kdei added, highlighting his shift towards direct charitable contributions rather than traditional church offerings.

His decision reflects growing concerns among some about the commercialization of religious practices and the need for more genuine compassion within religious communities.

  • We failed to capitalize on Year of Return to promote Ghana music – Bisa Kdei

We failed to capitalize on Year of Return to promote Ghana music – Bisa Kdei

Highlife Sensation Bisa Kdei has voiced disappointment over the lack of promotion for Ghanaian music during the Year of Return and Beyond the Return celebrations, attributing the poor reception of Ghanaian music abroad to this missed opportunity.

In an interview with Accra FM on March 28, Bisa Kdei acknowledged the significant impact of the Year of Return events on the creative industry but expressed regret that the focus was not on showcasing authentic Ghanaian sounds like Highlife.

Instead, he noted, the emphasis was on genres like Amapiano and Afrobeats.

“I don’t think we utilised the Year of Return well enough. Some foreigners, even Nigerians, came to Ghana hoping to hear authentic Ghanaian songs. But we were busy playing Amapiano and Afrobeats for them. So when they are going back to their countries, which songs will they take away?” Bisa Kdei remarked.

He emphasised the missed opportunity to showcase Ghana’s rich musical heritage during a period when the world’s attention was on the country.

Bisa Kdei lamented that clubs and entertainment venues primarily promoted foreign songs during that time, contributing to the acceptance of those genres in international markets while Ghanaian music struggled for recognition.

“This situation has led to these sounds being accepted in international markets while Ghanaian music wasn’t being recognized. So if a Ghanaian artiste decides to host a show out there, the foreigners won’t attend because they can’t recognize his song. But they recognize the Afrobeats and the Amapianos,” he elaborated.

Bisa Kdei’s comments highlight the need for strategic promotion of Ghanaian music on global platforms, especially during significant cultural events like the Year of Return, to ensure its rightful place and recognition in the international music scene.

“You’ve listened to the song more than the number of hit songs you have recorded,” another tweep wrote.

While the trolls intensified, Bisa stormed Twitter, once again, clarifying his statement.

“We don’t have to attach negativity to everything someone writes. I’m acknowledging a song and a rap legend as a writer. Their problem is their problem boss.”

    Sarkodie’s reply

Sarkodie released a track titled ‘Try Me’, which is his intended response to Yvonne Nelson’s claims.

One can recall that after narrating how the rapper impregnated her and denied responsibility, Yvonne Nelson, in her memoir also detailed how he drove her to a health facility where she bled profusely in his absence.

In a chapter titled ‘Abortion’, in her book, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’ the actress disclosed how Sarkodie accompanied her to the Mamprobi polyclinic for abortion and since never bothered to find out how the procedure went.

However, telling his side of the story in the single, ‘Try Me’, Sarkodie detailed that it was Yvonne’s sole decision to abort the pregnancy.

Although the rapper admitted that they had a relationship, he said Yvonne was only playing victim and taking advantage of the fact that the world listens to women more than men.

Highlife musician Roland Kwaku Dei Appiah known by his stage name Bisa Kdei has shared a bizarre moment in his life where he had a close shave with death.

The “Mansa” hit maker also revealed that, he was not the only musician involved in the accident but together with female singer Sista Afia

So, I told them that I feel like something is telling us to pray so we parked on the roadside. By then I had signed Sista Afia a few days earlier. Sista Afia was even part of the team”.

“So, we parked and we all held our hands and prayed, fifteen minutes later we crashed with two cars. It was bad, and at that time, I thought I had lost my voice. All of us had our necks locked but I stood up like a robot and went to check on my boys; everybody was okay but the cars were all damaged. It was crazy”, Bisa Kdei revealed.

  • Bisa Kdei advises against having ‘many friends’

Bisa Kdei advises against having ‘many friends’

Ghanaian musician Bisa Kdei has spoken against having too many friends.

He asserts that bringing an unhealthy number of people into your private life leads to ruination.

Guesting on Accra 100.5 FM’s mid-morning show Ayekoo Ayekoo hosted by Nana Romeo, he was asked about the rumour that he killed his mother.

“It was actually very funny,” he responded, adding that “my disposition won’t allow me to do some things else I would have mentioned names and said some things but it’s not important.”

“It got to a point, my own people started accusing me of acquiring wealth by using black magic,” he bemoaned.

The ‘Mansa’ hitmaker then categorically said: “Your biggest weakness as a human is to make people give people knowledge about your finances and how you make money. When people don’t know the details of your finances, you’re safe.”

When this is the case, “when you are broke, nobody knows and when you’re rich, nobody knows.”

He again stressed that bringing people into one’s fiscal matters “will be your biggest failure.”

He added that living by this philosophy is what led people to attribute his financial status to so-called ‘blood money’.

“People see me moving all the time and they don’t know my source of energy so then they’ll attribute it to a lot of things,” he chuckled.

The record producer and singer-songwriter cited how “recently, some people said a friend and I are into the cocaine business and it’s so funny.” He laughed.

Romeo wondered if Bisa Kdei had come into some fiscal abundance.

Reacting with laughter, the singer said: “That’s not the case. It’s just about the way you carry yourself. For sure, people are going to say a lot of things, but at the end of the day it’s you and your God; you alone know what you’re going through.”

    He pointed out another rumour.

“People say I killed my mother,” he sucked his teeth and noted: “It hurts but then again, I came to realise it’s simply human nature. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.”

“No matter what you do, they’ll talk about you. You just have to stay lowkey and do your thing,” he advised.

“Keep to yourself and don’t be overly social or available because it’s not everything that others should see to talk about,” he stressed. “If you allow people into your life too much, that’s what puts your private affairs into the public.”

Advocating for keeping to oneself, he emphasised controlling the number of friends one has. “It’s important because it’ll be these very friends who will destroy you. It’ll shock you,” he asserted during the Tuesday, January 17, 2023 interview.

  • Bisa Kdei speaks on how some musicians ‘sell their souls to the devil’

Bisa Kdei speaks on how some musicians ‘sell their souls to the devil’

Singer Bisa Kdei has advised his fellow music makers to be careful of what music deals they accept and sign to, lest they sell their souls to the devil.

Sitting with Entertainment Journalist Kwame Dadzie for a YouTube interview posted on Monday, January 16, 2023, the popular musician said “it’s the best,” to be an independent artiste compared to signing to a record label.

“It’s my opinion but I think,” he explained. “You can have a record deal, maybe you can have a distribution deal, it depends on the contract, just don’t sell yourself away,” Bisa advised.

Explaining what it means to sell oneself away, the respected songwriter said: “The thing is that you can sell your whole catalogue to a record label and you’re [ruined].”

Kwame wondered if it is always bad to sell ones catalogue to a record company regardless of how lucrative the deal offered may be.

Bisa Kdei insinuated that US$2 million is not enough for an artiste to hand over their catalogue to a record company but granted that it will be a mouthwatering offer for some music acts, nonetheless.

“I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve had offers but I turned them down because I don’t want to give my catalogue away,” he revealed but without stating the amount involved. “It’s very important as a musician that you keep that. That’s why I said it’s the best [to be an independent artiste].”

Born Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah, he asserted this is what is meant by the popular showbiz phrase ‘selling one’s soul to the devil’.

“Because you sell your whole catalogue and at the end of the day, you’re making nothing out of it and the record label is taking all the money,” he added.

Noting “it all depends on the kind of contract,” an artiste is given, the serial hitmaker underscored the importance of “lawyers and you need intellectual people around you who will check these kind of things for you.”

Concerning the labels that reached out to him, he revealed they are “very big record labels,” from the international world.

“I’m not saying record labels are bad, they are good. It [only] depends on the kind of deal they are bringing,” the 36-year-old clarified.

Kwame Dadzie asked what he thought of a US$200 million deal.

The ‘Mansa’ hitmaker answered by citing the Ghanaian proverb that teaches: “Eating [well] regularly is better than eating all at once.”

The award-winning Ghanaian singer, songwriter and record producer’s fourth album, ‘Original’, is slated for release on Friday, January 20, 2023.

He revealed “Our elders have a proverb which says a single broom can easily be broken but a bunch of brooms can’t be broken”.

“Meaning that there is strength in unity. That’s how we ought to do the work”.

“If we start doing favoritism by throwing all our support behind only one artiste whilst other artistes also need support, then we all can’t move forward progressively”.

  • Bisa Kdei’s career not dead; he’s only diverted attention – Fredyma

Legendary music producer, Fred Kyei Mensah popularly known as Fredyma says he disagrees with critics who claim highlife artiste Bisa Kdei’s music career is dead.

According to him, Bisa Kdei is still vibrant in the music industry and keeps churning out songs.

Fredyma noted that the ‘Mansa’ hit maker’s songs seem to have been buried in the local music scene because he and his team are not doing enough to make Ghanaian music lovers appreciate his works.

He told host Akwasi Aboagye on Thursday’s ‘Entertainment Review’ on Peace FM that Bisa Kdei has become inactive in Ghana because he has concentrated his efforts on making great exploits internationally, thus marketing his music across borders.

He recounted that the artiste has been performing in foreign countries and he appears missing in Ghana’s music industry because his team is not making noise about his achievements.

Fredyma further reprimanded Bisa Kdei over his recent comments that the “media is fake” and that the media has been paid to stop playing his songs on the air waves.

He advised him together with his management to focus on making his hard work and music resonate with Ghanaians and stop the needless utterances so he will not become irrelevant.

“His career is dying out because once the talent is there and he can still write songs, he can do everything. It is rather unfortunate that his public relationship or his utterances in terms of how he relates with the public didn’t go well. Because if you can say the media doesn’t play your songs because they have been paid, such utterance is distasteful . . . but it is untrue for any person to say Bisa Kdei is going down in terms of his music artistry or his businesswise or his wealth acquisition,” Fred Kyei Mensah stated.
