I was already famous before GWR attention – Afua Asantewaa

Media personality, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has found herself at the center of a brewing controversy.

The journalist, who gained attention for her ambitious bid to break the sing-a-thon record, is now facing allegations that she was fully aware of her disqualification despite publicizing her results.

Last week, the Guinness World Records (GWR) released the results of Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon in a tweet, revealing that she did not break the records.

This revelation sparked criticism from some netizens who accused her of capitalising on the fame garnered from her singing marathon, which took place from December 24th to December 29th, 2023.

Responding to the backlash, Asantewaa refuted claims that the sing-a-thon was a ploy for fame.

“First of all, sing-a-thon was not for fame because I already had it,” she asserted.

The journalist went on to explain that she frequently interacts with celebrities and had interviewed many of the notable figures who supported her during the event.

“While I won’t deny that the sing-a-thon brought me more visibility, I was already famous in my own way,” Asantewaa declared.

She acknowledged that the event had indeed introduced her to a broader audience but emphasised that her pre-existing fame as a journalist should not be overlooked.

Despite the controversy surrounding her Guinness World Records attempt, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum remains steadfast in defending her reputation, asserting that her Sing-a-thon was an extension of her ongoing journey in the public eye.
