Former Guinness World Record aspirant Afua Asantewaahas revealed plans to host another edition of her sing-a-thon in Kumasi this December.
In December 2023, Afua captured the nation’s attention with her attempt to break Sunil Waghmare’s record for the longest solo singing marathon.
Despite her tireless five-day performance, she was eventually disqualified.
However, in an interview with Akoma FM on October 23, 2024, the tourism ambassador shared exciting news: she has been granted clearance from Guinness World Records to organize a new sing-a-thon in Kumasi.
“I can tell you on your show that, God willing, in December, I will be hosting another sing-a-thon, but this time I’m planning to do it in Kumasi.
“My team and I are conducting a feasibility study to determine the best location in the city for the event. This will allow the local community to experience the show and enhance my role as a tourism ambassador,” she announced.
Afua highlighted that her previous disqualification has only strengthened her determination to achieve the status of a Guinness World Record holder.
“The fact that I was not successful in my first attempt shouldn’t be a barrier to my quest of becoming a Guinness World Record holder,” she stated.
She also mentioned that a press conference will be held to officially launch the upcoming sing-a-thon.
Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar, has issued a stern reminder to the media to meticulously verify all information before publication, warning that failure to do so could lead to national chaos and embarrassment.
Her caution comes in the wake of a recent incident involving a Ghanaian chef who falsely claimed recognition by Guinness World Records for a cook-a-thon, an assertion that was widely reported by major media outlets without proper verification.
In an interview in Accra on Monday, Madam Abubakar described the false reporting as a national embarrassment that must not be repeated.
She emphasized the potential dangers of such inaccuracies, particularly if they were to occur within the political sphere, especially concerning election-related matters.
“The media has the responsibility to verify every information before publication…it’s dangerous to spread falsehood because it could lead us into chaos,” she stated.
Reflecting on the incident involving Chef Smith, who organized a press briefing to declare himself the record-holder for a cook-a-thon, the Minister highlighted the critical role of the media in ensuring the accuracy of information disseminated to the public.
She underscored the possible repercussions of spreading unverified information, which could create serious conflicts or chaos, especially in politically sensitive situations.
In a bid to decentralize government communication and keep citizens informed about governmental projects, Madam Abubakar announced that her Ministry would soon launch a series of regional town hall meetings and exhibitions across the country.
Scheduled to commence at the end of July, these events aim to enhance transparency and accountability regarding government initiatives.
The town hall meetings will feature regional and sector ministers, along with key government appointees, who will answer questions from journalists and community members about various government projects.
Topics will include infrastructure developments in roads, health, education, water, and sanitation, as well as other local issues of concern.
Madam Abubakar expressed confidence that these regional meetings and exhibitions would facilitate better communication between the government and the populace, allowing for direct feedback and fostering greater transparency regarding government projects.
Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith, known as Chef Smith, recently admitted in an interview to fabricating a Guinness World Record certificate.
He confessed to modifying a certificate found online from the Guinness World Records website, inserting his own details into it.
Chef Smith, who claimed long-time inspiration from Guinness World Records, explained his actions by stating, “They have numerous certificates on their website, so I simply chose one and edited it with my own name.”
He also clarified that he is not affiliated with the Ghana Chef Association or any other professional body.
“I’m not a member of the Ghana Chef Association. I do not belong to any organization. Everything is fake and a lie,” Chef Smith admitted.
This revelation follows a statement from Guinness World Records (GWR), which stated they were unaware of Smith’s attempt to break the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Mr. Agbovi, the General Secretary of the Chefs Association, in an interview with GH One TV, commented on the controversy, saying, “You can call him a chef because he is a professional, but he is not a registered member of the Chefs Association of Ghana.” He also expressed disappointment over the fake certificate and the unauthorized use of their logo.
During a press briefing at La Palm Beach Hotel on July 2, 2024, Chef Smith announced he had set a record for the longest individual cooking marathon, claiming to have cooked continuously for 820 hours. His manager, Benny, supported this claim, citing an alleged confirmation email from Guinness World Records (GWR).
However, GWR promptly clarified that they had no record of any application or attempt by Chef Smith to set a record. Madalyn Biefield, GWR’s Public Relations Manager, stated unequivocally, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold a GWR title, and that certificate is not authentic.”
The incident has sparked public outrage as it became evident that the certificate Chef Smith presented was likely fraudulent.
Chef Smith has revealed that he did not register for a cook-a-thon attempt with the Guinness World Records (GWR).
In an interview with GH One TV he clarified his stance amid recent discussions about his involvement with the renowned record-keeping organization.
When asked why he proceeded with the cook-a-thon without approval, Chef Smith responded, “Cooking is not just my passion; it’s my calling”.
According to him, “I have read a lot about Guinness World Records and it’s an application process. When you apply, they will give you an application reference that would enable you to know who is the current record holder,” Chef Smith explained.
“I’ve read all that, and got to know the rules and guidelines, but I don’t have an application with Guinness World Records.”
In a statement released on Thursday, July 4, Amadia Shopping Centre announced a three-year partnership with Chef Smith to support his record-breaking attempt.
The shopping center, spearheaded by Mrs. Nana Ama Duodu, funded and organized the month-long cook-a-thon.
However, following the record attempt, Amadia’s management encountered challenges in communicating with Chef Smith regarding video uploads and responses from GWR.
The statement noted Chef Smith’s failure to inform Amadia Shopping Centre about a planned press conference to announce a potential GWR certificate, which violated the contract’s stipulations granting the sponsor the right of first refusal for post-event activities.
Despite multiple attempts to seek clarification, Chef Smith’s management remained unresponsive.
Guinness World Records (GWR) has refuted Ghanaian chef Chef Smith’s claim of holding the longest cooking marathon title, declaring the certificate he presented as fake.
The clarification came in response to an inquiry by Derek Edem Kojo, a journalist from GhOne TV.
Madalyn Bielfield, the PR Manager for Guinness World Records, confirmed that the current record holder is Alan Fisher from Ireland, not Chef Smith.
“No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate,” Bielfield stated, affirming the doubts raised by many regarding the authenticity of the certificate displayed by Chef Smith.
Chef Smith made the announcement during a press conference at La Palm Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
He declared himself the new Guinness World Record title holder for the longest individual cooking marathon, claiming to have achieved a time of 802 hours and 25 minutes.
“I am deeply humbled and honoured to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon,” Chef Smith proclaimed during the conference.
The certificate shown at the event read: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
However, the assertion and the certificate were both swiftly debunked by Guinness World Records. The organization confirmed that the record remains with Alan Fisher, whose verified time stands unchallenged.
It’s OFFICIAL! 🎉

Media personality and former Guinness World Records (GWR) contender, Afua Asantewaa, finds herself at the center of controversy after her recent attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon.
Asantewaa, sang for an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes in December 2023, aimed to surpass the existing record of 105 hours held by an Indian singer since 2012.
However, the excitement surrounding her attempt quickly turned into a dispute when GWR announced on social media that Asantewaa did not break the record due to a violation of rules concerning rest break timings.
The organization also mentioned that they had refunded the $750 Asantewaa paid for a priority review and provided her with the results.
This announcement sparked public backlash, with accusations that Asantewaa was withholding the results from the Ghanaian public.
In response, Asantewaa clarified the situation during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz on March 2, 2024.
According to Asantewaa, her GWR account was deactivated due to the actions of one of her team members who attempted to send an application using her account, triggering a security alert from GWR.
She explained, “My logins were in the hands of different people in my team, some were responsible for uploading pictures and videos, and others were responsible for uploading witnesses and other evidence.”
Despite her account being reactivated on Thursday, February 29, Asantewaa claims she did not receive any specific details on why she was disqualified.
She expressed her determination to seek clarification from GWR, stating, “For now, it’s been opened, if you log in, you will see ‘Unsuccessful’.
But as to the reasons for their disqualification, they haven’t been given yet. So I’ve written to them to please provide details.” Amidst the controversy, Asantewaa revealed that she is taking a short break to spend quality time with her family after the physically and emotionally demanding singing marathon.
The unfolding situation continues to capture the attention of fans and the public, leaving many eagerly awaiting GWR’s response to Asantewaa’s request for more information.
Media Personality, Afua Asantewaa has expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she received from fellow Ghanaians during her Guinness World Records (GWR) sing-a-thon attempt in December 2023.
Defying the notion that Ghanaians do not support their own, Afua shared her heartfelt appreciation on Okay FM, recounting the incredible backing she received.
In an exclusive interview, Afua asserted, “I am proof that Ghanaians support their own, looking at how they rallied behind me during the sing-a-thon. I will forever be grateful for the support of Ghanaians. Some ladies stayed at the venue throughout the period. I don’t know how they bathed or survived. It was amazing.”
Encouraged by the overwhelming show of solidarity, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has now declared her intention to reattempt the Guinness World Records sing-a-thon, following the setback of her initial attempt.
“If Ghanaians would ever want me to do this [sing-a-thon attempt] again, with the permission of my management and husband, I am ready to do it,” disclosed Afua.
Her willingness to give it another shot has sparked excitement among her supporters, with many expressing their eagerness to witness her make another record-breaking attempt.
Fans have taken to social media platforms to voice their support, creating hashtags such as #AfuaSingAgain and #GhanaSupportsAfua to amplify their encouragement.
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s determination has not only inspired her fans but has also reignited a sense of national pride as Ghanaians unite in supporting one of their own on the global stage.
As discussions around her potential reattempt gain momentum, it remains to be seen whether Afua will once again captivate the nation with her musical prowess in a bid to etch her name in the prestigious Guinness World Records.
Media personality, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has found herself at the center of a brewing controversy.
The journalist, who gained attention for her ambitious bid to break the sing-a-thon record, is now facing allegations that she was fully aware of her disqualification despite publicizing her results.
Last week, the Guinness World Records (GWR) released the results of Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon in a tweet, revealing that she did not break the records.
This revelation sparked criticism from some netizens who accused her of capitalising on the fame garnered from her singing marathon, which took place from December 24th to December 29th, 2023.
Responding to the backlash, Asantewaa refuted claims that the sing-a-thon was a ploy for fame.
“First of all, sing-a-thon was not for fame because I already had it,” she asserted.
The journalist went on to explain that she frequently interacts with celebrities and had interviewed many of the notable figures who supported her during the event.
“While I won’t deny that the sing-a-thon brought me more visibility, I was already famous in my own way,” Asantewaa declared.
She acknowledged that the event had indeed introduced her to a broader audience but emphasised that her pre-existing fame as a journalist should not be overlooked.
Despite the controversy surrounding her Guinness World Records attempt, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum remains steadfast in defending her reputation, asserting that her Sing-a-thon was an extension of her ongoing journey in the public eye.
Entrepreneur and media personality Afua Asantewaa Aduonum‘s ambitious attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual hit a snag due to a communication breakdown with Guinness World Records (GWR).
Despite impressing many Ghanaians with her sing-a-thon, it was revealed on Friday, February 23, 2024, that her effort fell short.
The disappointing news surfaced after an individual raised an inquiry, prompting questions about whether Afua was aware of the setback.
In a video statement, Afua expressed frustration over being unable to access her account on the official Guinness World Records portal.
Eric Toscar shared screenshots of Afua’s conversations with Guinness World Records online, highlighting her complaints about account access issues.
One screenshot revealed that she had formally communicated with an official from Guinness World Records regarding the problem.
Notably, the screenshots also showed that Guinness World Records acknowledged receiving evidence related to Afua’s record attempt and the payment she made for a quick review.
After more than four weeks since Afua Asantewaa’s ambitious singing marathon, Guinness World Records has finally provided an update.
Unfortunately, the news is not in her favor. Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has been disqualified from the record attempt due to inconsistencies with her rest breaks.
This decision has stirred up a storm of controversy online, with many of her fans expressing disbelief and accusing her of withholding information about her results.
Afua Asantewaa herself addressed the issue during a recent media appearance on GH One TV. She explained that she had lost access to her log-in credentials and therefore had not seen the official documents regarding her disqualification.
In response to the criticism, Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale took to Facebook to defend Afua Asantewaa.
He argued that many Ghanaians have failed to appreciate her efforts and instead have been quick to criticize.
Shatta Wale pledged his support for Afua Asantewaa, stating that he and his fans would take a different approach.
“Some Ghanaians won’t appreciate you but Shatta wale and his shatta movement fans say Ayekoo .God said I should tell you ,you are the YAA ASANTEWAA OF OUR TIME . Go girl and forget some lazy Ghanaians.”
Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Kwasi Aboagye has revealed an unexpected incident where Fadda Dickson, Managing Director of Despite Media, urged him to apologize for his critical remarks about Afua Asantewaa during a sing-a-thon contest.
During a conversation with entertainment pundit Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, Aboagye shared his astonishment at his boss’s request, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of the situation and its lasting impact on him.
The incident stems from Aboagye’s previous comments about Asantewaa, which had sparked disapproval from the Ghanaian public who deemed them inappropriate.
Having faced backlash for his initial remarks, Aboagye had previously issued a formal apology to Asantewaa, acknowledging the potential discomfort caused by his comments.
However, with Asantewaa’s subsequent disqualification by Guinness World Records (GWR), Aboagye revisited the challenges he encountered when expressing his opinion.
Recalling the moment Fadda Dickson intervened, Aboagye revealed, “My disappointment was when Fadda Dickson sent me a voice note that I should apologize. If you ask me how far this went, that was it for me. He hasn’t done anything of that sort before. So, out of respect, I had to heed. I was in the U.S. at that time, I checked my phone at dawn and I saw several missed calls from him and the voice note as well.”
Aboagye also alluded to the public insults he endured, asserting, “As for the insults [from the public], I don’t want to go there. Because I am used to it.”
The broadcaster’s revelation adds a new layer to the unfolding saga surrounding Afua Asantewaa’s journey and the controversies it has generated.
What Kwasi Aboagye said about Afua Asantewaa
A few hours before the start of Afua Asantewaa’s singing marathon contest in December 2023, Kwasi Aboagye made headlines with his critical remarks.
Expressing what seemed like frustration, he urged Afua to cease speaking and focus solely on her attempt to break the record.
He also commented on her vocal abilities, suggesting that she should avoid interviews and concentrate on improving her voice.
“You are about to sing for four days, yet, this is how your voice sounds like. Even though your voice isn’t nice, let’s put that aside… You need to stay indoors and rehearse properly for this because Hilda Baci did not do ‘try and error’ with her cooking contest. Stay indoors and rehearse and shut up! Keep quiet, you are talking too much,” he earlier stated.
The controversial comments sparked a backlash with many questioning the appropriateness of such statements.
On December 24, 2023, Asantewaa embarked on a mission to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. She was the toast of December in GH as she sang for 126 hours and 52 minutes. She initially planned to end on 27th December; however, after consultation with her team, she decided to sing continuously for five days.
Disqualification
Officials at the Guinness World Records (GWR) have disclosed reasons Afua Asantewaa could not achieve the ‘longest singing marathon by an individual’ mark.
In a response to an email by JoyFM’s Kwame Dadzie probing into the disqualification, the entity stated that Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon attempt was unsuccessful because the guidelines around rest break timings were not met.
In the statement by the PR Executive for the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya, sighted it was established that these are standard rules that couldn’t have been overlooked.
“Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon attempt was not successful due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans…We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” the statement contained.
Popular social media sensation, Afua Asantewaa, has accused the Guinness World Records (GWR) of breaching their contract by announcing the results of her singing marathon before she had the chance to do so herself.
In an exclusive interview with GTV, Asantewaa expressed her frustration, stating that according to the contract signed with GWR, she was supposed to be informed of the results first before they were made public.
“In the contract we signed, until I decide to let it out, they can’t. There are so many things I have tried in the past that I willingly embraced failure that brought me this far. So why would I hide the results from the public? No way,” she asserted.
As of Friday, February 23, Asantewaa claimed she had not received the results of her record attempt due to issues accessing the email sent by GWR containing the results. Despite alerting GWR about her inability to access the email, she stated that they had not responded to her complaint.
“We had screenshots of it as if I knew this would happen. I lodged a complaint with them that I cannot access their website or my account so they should look into it for me because I need official documents, whatever they’ve sent to make a statement,” Asantewaa explained.
However, she assured her fans that she and her team were making plans to announce the results once GWR got back to them, emphasizing that she would not purposely hide the results and would embrace them regardless of the outcome.
In December 2023, Asantewaa undertook the challenge to beat the existing sing-a-thon record, enduring a five-day singing marathon. Despite her efforts, the outcome of her record attempt has remained undisclosed by GWR.
The situation escalated when rumors circulated that she may not have passed the record attempt. In January 2024, she disclosed that her team expedited the approval process by paying $750 for a priority review. However, even after the payment, her result was delayed, leading to further speculation.
In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), GWR revealed that Asantewaa failed to break the longest singing marathon record and refunded the money paid for a priority review.
Despite the setback, Asantewaa remains determined, emphasizing that the experience itself was an accomplishment.
The ongoing saga has sparked debate and raised questions about the transparency of the record verification process and the handling of Asantewaa’s case by GWR.
Entrepreneur and media personality Afua Assantewaa claimed to have lost access to her Guinness World Records (GWR) logins, hindering her ability to inform the public promptly about her disqualification.
Entertainment journalist Kwame Dadzie has strongly contested her assertions, labelling them as false and threatening to expose her if she challenges him on the issue.
“She is lying, I am telling you, she didn’t lose her log in details, her interview she granted is false, I have proof, if she wants it, I will expose her,” Kwame Dadzie stated.
On Friday, February 23, 2024, the Guinness World Records announced that Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa failed to break the longest singing marathon she attempted in December 2023.
The GWR said this in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) adding that despite the setback they hope she makes another attempt.
“We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans…We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” they noted.
They added that the money Afua Asantewaa’s team paid for a priority review has been refunded.
Afua Asantewaa in December 2023 took on the challenge to beat the existing record which stands at 105 hours set in 2012.
Asantewaa endured a five-day singing marathon which began at midnight on Sunday, December 24, 2023, and ended at 7:00 am on December 29, 2023.
At the time she ended her record attempt on Friday morning, the young woman had sung for five days, six hours and 55 minutes.
Ghanaian entertainment expert, Arnold Baidoo Asamoah, renowned for his contributions at Despite Media, has initiated a one-man crusade, accusing Afua Asantewaa of dishonesty regarding her recent sing-a-thon disqualification.
In an exclusive segment on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review with Kwesi Aboagye, Arnold Asamoah claimed that Asantewaa deliberately concealed the outcome of her attempt.
Arnold argued that corporate entities had chosen to collaborate with Asantewaa under the impression that she was a potential winner.
Fearing repercussions on her professional relationships, Asantewaa allegedly chose to withhold the disqualification news, a decision Arnold believes could tarnish her reputation as a trustworthy individual, making it challenging for businesses to associate with her.
“It would have been more prudent for her to be transparent about the situation, as no brand wishes to be associated with dishonesty. Contrary to the claim of receiving the news while preparing for a show, the decision to conceal the truth may have significant consequences,” remarked Arnold Asamoah during the program.
Officials at the Guinness World Records disclosed why Afua Asantewaa was unsuccessful with her singathon attempt.
“Afua Asantewaa’s singathon attempt was not successful due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records,” PR Executive for the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya replied to a mail by Joy FM.
In response to the announcement of her disqualification, Afua wrote on social media that she received the news of the outcome of her sing-a-thon attempt just moments before hosting a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network, attended by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
She stated, “I would announce my next line of action in a few days. Thank you all for your love and support.”
In the meantime, she has been appointed Tourism Ambassador by the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Guinness World Record (GWR) in a reply to an X user’s post concerning the results of Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, who attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon in December 2023, announced that she has been disqualified.
This was met with mixed reactions from several Ghanaians, with some expressing disappointment and betrayal while others commending her for her effort and courage over her intention to hide such news from the public.

However, in response, Afua Asantewaa explained in an interview with GHONE TV that she received the news of the outcome of her sing-a-thon attempt just moments before hosting a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network.
She attributed this to a miscommunication by GWR, highlighting her inability to access her account; hence, she has no official documents to post or prove that her attempt was unsuccessful.
She contends that she hasn’t disappointed Ghanaians, as many claim.
“I spoke about a miscommunication with GWR and it had to be with my log-in account. I don’t have access so I sit here and don’t have official documents to even post on my social media, that this is my disqualification letter and probably that’s the reason they went ahead to comment on another person’s post and it went viral so I think that I haven’t disappointed Ghanaians, and maybe the only disappointment is that they didn’t hear it from me.
So I hope that, in due time, they will get to understand me and believe my story,” Afua stated.
Consequently, Afua assured Ghanaians that ” there is no way I will holdon to results such as this. I’m a very strong person, and I believe in not giving up, regardless of whether I’m successful or not. I will still share with Ghanaians anyway.”
Guinness World Records (GWR) recently clarified the grounds for disqualifying entrepreneur, Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum in her individual Sing-A-Thon attempt in December 2023, citing non-compliance with rest break timings as the key factor.
GWR emphasised that this rule is standard for all their longest marathon records.
The explanation came in response to an inquiry from Ghana Business News, which sought details on the verdict and communication with Aduonum.
GWR’s spokesperson expressed regret, asserting, “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the Longest Singing Marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”
Despite completing an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023, in an effort to surpass the current record held by Sunil Waghmare, Afua Asantewaa faced disqualification.
In a Facebook post following the official announcement, she shared her plans for the future amid preparations for a gala dinner with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Despite the setback, Afua’s accomplishment resonated with many, sparking a call for GWR to reconsider and validate her marathon as deserving of recognition.
In the eyes of her supporters, Afua remains a winner who captured hearts and showcased her determination, regardless of official validation.
Guinness World Records (GWR) has provided clarity on the disqualification of Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum for her Sing-A-Thon attempt as an individual in December 2023.
According to GWR, Afua’s disqualification stemmed from “guidelines around rest break timings not being met,” which they assert is a standard rule across all of their longest marathon records.
The explanation came in response to an inquiry from Ghana Business News regarding Afua Asantewaa’s disqualification. The news outlet had sought clarification on the verdict and whether it had been communicated to Aduonum.
In their response, a spokesperson for GWR stated, “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the Longest Singing Marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”
The main reason cited for disqualifying Afua’s attempt was the failure to adhere to guidelines regarding rest break timings, a standard rule applied to all GWR longest marathon records.
Afua Asantewaa had aimed to break the current record set by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012. Despite her valiant effort, she completed the longest singing marathon as an individual at 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023.
In response to the GWR’s official publication of her disqualification, Afua took to her Facebook page to express her gratitude for the support she received and hinted at announcing her next course of action in the coming days.
Her Sing-A-Thon attempt garnered significant attention and admiration, solidifying her as an inspirational figure. Many supporters hope that GWR will reconsider and declare Afua’s marathon as qualified for the certificate she had aimed for.
Despite the setback, Afua’s determination and perseverance have resonated with many, affirming her status as a winner in the eyes of her supporters. She has shown that with dedication and resolve, she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to, regardless of external validation.

Guinness World Records (GWR) has finally made a decision regarding Afua Asantewaa Aduonum‘s daring attempt to shatter the record for the longest individual singing marathon, after over two months of waiting.
Despite high hopes, a social media post circulating, allegedly shared by Guinness World Record on X, has cast a shadow over the expectations of many Ghanaians who were rooting for Afua to achieve the record-breaking feat.
The post revealed that Afua Asantewaa’s attempt at the longest singing marathon fell short of success after a thorough examination of the submitted evidence.
Afua Asantewaa has now addressed the matter on her Facebook page, asserting that the news of the outcome reached her just moments before she was set to host a gala dinner and launch the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network, an event attended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In her statement, Afua expressed gratitude for the love and support received and hinted at revealing her next course of action in the coming days.
“Thank you all for your love and support. When life hands you lemons, turn them to lemonade. Success is sweetest when snatched out of the jaws of defeat,” read a portion of her post.
In a hashtag on her announcement post, Afua provided Ghanaians with a glimmer of hope, suggesting a potential reattempt of the singing marathon and promising to share further details in due time.
Guinness World Records has officially announced the rejection of Afua Asantewaa‘s bid to establish the record for the longest individual singing marathon.
Despite singing for an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes, her attempt fell short of the existing record held by Sunil Waghmare from India.
Afua Asantewaa, who captivated thousands with her five-day singing marathon at Akwaaba Village in Accra, near the Kotoka International Airport, received overwhelming support from fans and showbiz personalities.
Notable figures like Nana Ama McBrown, Kwabena Kwabena, Efya, and others joined in the event, making it a significant moment in Ghana’s entertainment scene.
However, the official response from Guinness World Records, shared on February 23, 2024, stated, “Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful.”
The evidence check had already commenced, and despite Afua’s request for priority service, she received a refund earlier this month.
Afua Asantewaa is currently dominating the trending charts, with social media users delighting in playful banter at her expense.

Bert Janssen, who is 57 years old and from the Netherlands, has been living for almost 40 years with the heart he got from a donor at Harefield Hospital in Uxbridge, north-west London, in the 1980s.
He was being treated for a heart condition that makes it hard for the heart to pump blood.
He said he was “very thankful for the amazing gift” his donor gave him.
His heart doctor in his country knew the doctors at Harefield Hospital and the person who started doing heart transplants, Prof Sir Magdi Yacoub. Prof Sir Magdi Yacoub did the surgery on 6 June 1984.
The operation didn’t happen in the Netherlands yet. Mr Janssen, who was 18 when he had the operation, said: “It all happened very quickly. Just one week after coming to Harefield, two hearts became available from a big car crash in London.
“I had surgery where they replaced my heart with someone else’s. ”
Mr Janssen said that he was able to go back to feeling good after the surgery.
The man is happy to have broken the record for air gliding. He is also a husband and has two children. He feels proud.
“He said he never thought he would come this far. ”
I believe the most important thing is to be a good example for others to follow. It has been proven that it is possible to go this far with a donated heart.
“I think the marker will continue to move even more, and I will be happy if someone else breaks my record eventually. ”
He was the 107th person to have a transplant at Harefield Hospital.
Sir Magdi performed the first transplant in 1980, and the center has done thousands more since then. In 2022-23, 54 transplants were completed.
Dr Fernando Riesgo Gil, a heart specialist at Harefield Hospital, said he is happy to hear that one of their first heart transplant patients is still living a good and happy life many years after the transplant.
Last week, there were 7,314 adults and 248 kids waiting for a transplant in the UK. This information is from the NHS Blood and Transplant website.
Out of all of them, 334 people are waiting for hearts.
Reggae and Afro-Dancehall artist Article Wan has voiced his opinions on the growing trend of record-breaking attempts in Ghana.
In a recent interview on Cape Coast’s Property FM, Article Wan humorously commented on the rising number of individuals making efforts to set or break records.
He playfully suggested that the Guinness Book of Records might have to release a new edition before leaving Ghana due to the increasing enthusiasm for record-breaking in the country.
“In terms of setting records, Ghana is on the rise. Before the Guinness Book of Records leaves Ghana, they might have to invest in a new edition because the number of people attempting to set or break records is steadily growing,” Article Wan said.
“As for me, the record I want to break, unless I engage in a Ton-A-Thon – that is, if I purchase something and sell it because the ‘Thon Thon’ trend is becoming quite prevalent in Ghana.”
“Today, you’ll hear someone proclaiming they will undertake a Talk-A-Thon, another person opting for a Stand-A-Thon, and yet another individual proposing a Walk-A-Thon,” he added.
Article Wan, however, recognized the positive influence of the trend, highlighting its capacity to create enthusiasm and encourage community involvement, particularly during the festive season in December.

Irish chef and owner of a restaurant in Japan, Alan Fisher, has achieved two remarkable Guinness World Records in the realm of cooking and baking.
His first record-breaking feat was the “longest cooking marathon (individual),” where he impressively cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes. This exceeded the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci by more than 24 hours.
Not content with one achievement, Alan then went on to secure the title for the “longest baking marathon (individual)” with an incredible time of 47 hours and 21 minutes. The previous record holder, Wendy Sandner from the USA, had held the record with a time of 31 hours and 16 minutes.
What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is that Alan undertook both record attempts consecutively. This means that he spent over 160 hours in the kitchen, with just a little over a day of rest in between these remarkable feats. Alan Fisher’s dedication and culinary prowess have truly earned him a place in the Guinness World Records.
Recreating Irish culture in Japan
In 2008, the year of his graduation from Dublin City University, Alan was in search of a new challenge. His journey led him to an overseas graduate program that connected Irish graduates with companies in Asia, ultimately resulting in a job offer at a company in Tokyo.
Over the course of six years, Alan not only established a solid presence in Tokyo but also met his future wife, who would later become his business partner. Despite his achievements, something within him didn’t sit quite right.
“After the wedding, saying goodbye to 30 friends and family who came over, I remember a feeling of being trapped, thinking to myself, ‘Is this it? Is this my life now, to have kids and work in the same company?’ It was time for the next challenge.”
In August 2014, Alan made a bold decision to follow his entrepreneurial instincts and embark on a new journey. For him, the choice was clear: Irish food and culture would be the foundation of his business.
Alan’s establishment, Kyojin Stewhouse, places a strong emphasis on the staples of Irish households, such as hearty stews, soul-warming soups, freshly baked bread, and, of course, the beloved potato. Alan’s vision was to create an atmosphere where customers not only experienced the flavors of Ireland but also felt the warmth of being in his own home.
Breaking records
Alan’s introduction to the longest cooking marathon record came in March while he was actively participating in the “I Love Ireland” festival in Tokyo. This festival was a special occasion where Alan even spent two nights in a rented kitchen car, fully immersed in the culinary world.
During one of his breaks at the festival, Alan decided to research the current record holder for the longest cooking marathon. To his surprise, he found out that Lata Tondon (India) held the record with an impressive time of 87 hours and 45 minutes. However, by May, he discovered that Hilda Baci had extended the record, achieving a remarkable 93 hours and 11 minutes.
Throughout this period, Alan was also contending with the various challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had taken a toll on his business.
“When Omicron spread, a sudden dining out advisory from the local Government meant I lost all my reservations for the month of July 2022 and needed to take out a pandemic support loan just to pay bills,” he said.
“I was broke and heartbroken. To have worked so hard for so long, to give up your own savings, your own salary and then still need a loan simply to stay in business with no guarantee things will recover. That was a tough pill to swallow.”
Despite the recent easing of restrictions, Alan continued to carry this negative energy as he continued with his work. “Lata and Hilda’s achievements served as an inspiration,” he said.
To redirect his frustration and transform negativity into a positive endeavor, Alan made the decision to embark on this record-breaking journey himself.
The record attempt proved to be extremely challenging, even during the preparation phase. In particular, Alan had to make a food distribution plan so that there would be no wastage of the food he cooked. “Everything must be for human consumption. My attempt would only be successful if the people of Matsue got behind what I was doing and showed up to support the challenge.”
In addition, Alan needed to film the record his attempt for evidence. He was thankful that TSK, the local TV provider, came to help. “I know that they needed to allocate staff and resources to support this challenge. This costs time and money and is definitely not lost on me. I’m incredibly grateful to them.”
During the record attempt, Alan had to overcome different types of obstacles as time went by. During the longest baking marathon (individual) record attempt, it was his back that caused him trouble. Because Alan was mixing dough by hand, his posture got distorted, and as a result, his back got tight and sore.
Towards the end of the longest cooking marathon (individual) record attempt, Alan had to endure fatigue and sleepiness. “I peeled roughly 300 kg of potatoes during the cooking marathon. For the first few days, I would look forward to this each evening as it gave me a chance to sit down.”
“Towards the end of the cooking marathon however, as fatigue started to take hold I would find it more and more difficult to stay awake whenever I sat down to start peeling. The rhythm of the peeling would almost hypnotize me. I had one hallucination on the second-to-last day. I turned to ask someone to pass me something, like I would on any normal day only to realize there was no one there.”
In the face of numerous challenges, Alan found the unwavering support of the local community to be the driving force that encouraged him to persevere.
“It got to the point where I definitely couldn’t give up. In my mind, I was representing myself, my family, and Irish food, and through these attempts, I was sharing our story. As time went by it became clear that many people in Matsue were also wishing me well. As if I had been adopted into this community over 9,000 km from my home. How could I not persevere? That was the only option.”
Following nine intense days of relentless baking and cooking, Alan managed to produce a staggering 357 kg of soda bread and 590 kg of delectable dishes, which equated to a grand total of 3,360 portions featuring 32 different recipes.
The culmination of this incredible effort was beautifully rewarded when Alan proudly received his two Guinness World Record certificates.
The Guinness World Records has named Pepper X as the spiciest chili pepper in the world, taking away the title from the Carolina Reaper chili pepper after 10 years.
To compare, a habanero pepper is usually spicy with 100,000 Scoville heat units. However, the Pepper X is extremely spicy with 2. 69
Breeder and farmer Ed Currie made the peppers that broke world records.
Pepper X pods and seeds will not be available for purchase because they are a special kind of pepper that is owned by someone and not for sale.
MrCurrie grew Pepper X for ten years on his farm in South Carolina, but he kept his project a secret to safeguard his ideas and creations.
“MrCurrie said that everyone worked together as a team,” he said in a statement. “We realized we had something unique, so I only told a small group of my closest family and friends about the true situation. ”
In lab tests at Winthrop University in South Carolina, Pepper X was found to be much hotter than Mr. Currie’s Carolina Reaper. Pepper X has an average of 2,693,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while the Carolina Reaper only averaged 1,641,183 SHU.
In 1912, a pharmacist named Wilbur Scoville created a tool called the Scoville Scale. This scale tells us how much we need to dilute capsaicin to make it less spicy.
Capsaicin is a substance that causes the spicy feeling in peppers. It can make the body release dopamine and endorphins.
MrCurrie had addiction problems with drugs and alcohol but managed to overcome them. As a hobby, he started growing peppers and claims that they have a similar effect to feeling high naturally.
People usually think that the spiciness of a pepper comes from its seeds, but actually, capsaicin is found in the part of the pepper that holds the seeds, called the placenta. According to the Guinness World Records, Pepper X has a lot of curves and ridges. This means that there is more space for the placenta to grow.
MrCurrie is among a small group of just five individuals who have consumed a whole Pepper X.
I felt hot for three and a half hours. “Then I started feeling intense stomach pain,” Mr. Currie informed the Associated Press.
Those cramps are really painful and unpleasant. I was lying down on a hard marble wall for about an hour while it was raining, making sounds of discomfort.
MrCurrie said that Pepper X is a mix of two types of peppers – the Carolina Reaper and another extremely spicy pepper that his friend sent him from Michigan.
MrCurrie’s lawyer said that 10,000 products were using the name Carolina Reaper without permission.
In order to keep his ideas safe and make money this time, the creator will not make Pepper X pods and seeds available to the public.
The only way to experience the flavor of Pepper X is by purchasing and using hot sauces that contain it.
There has been an increase in record-a-thon attempts in Nigeria, which has prompted Guinness World Records to issue a warning.
In a response to a record-a-thon initiative by one user on Instagram, Ọláwùnmí Àjọkẹ́ (Livingwithajoke), Guinness World Records wrote: “Please enough with the record-a-thons”.
Ọláwùnmí Àjọkẹ́ announced her decision to break the Idea-a-thon and puff puff-a-thon titles. “Get ready,” she added.
Guinness World Records tired of record-a-thons
Another user interested in this initiative and the response from Guinness World Records asked the international institution whether it was not fed up with the numerous attempts made by Nigerians to break current world records.
Guinness World Records replied saying: “We welcome applications from all over the globe, we can all be friends.”
Nigerians have gained the appetite to break world records after their very own Hilda Baci officially broke the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.
The previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes was set by Lata Tondon (India) in 2019.
The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began on Thursday 11 May and continued through to Monday 15 May, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.
Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.
Since then, Nigerians have gone bananas to continue to put their country on the map.
Chef Damilola Adeparusi has attempted a 120-hour cooking marathon in Oye Local Government Area in Ekiti State with the intention of breaking Chef Hilda’s record.
Another chef who tried to surpass Hilda Baci’s record was Oluwaseun Oyedele, who cooked for 105 hours in June 2023, but his attempt was disqualified due to rule violations.
Away from cooking, Sugartee, a musician from Nigeria, announced that he will be hosting the proposed 72-hour kissing marathon intended to break the current Guinness World from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 10.
On its website, the Guinness World Records notes that due to the volume of applications it receives, the standard application process currently takes up to 12 weeks.
“Sometimes the 12 weeks waiting time is extended during high demand,” it adds.
However, there is the Priority application which provides a speedy reply.
If you choose the Priority service, Guinness World Records will respond to you within five working days (as opposed to the usual 12 weeks).
The Priority Application service for existing titles costs £500 / $800 US / €630 (plus VAT where applicable), while the cost for new titles is £650 / $1,000 US / €820.

Chef Dammy, the viral Ekiti chef also known as Damilola Adeparusi, has clarified that her recently concluded cooking marathon was not intended as an endeavor to break the Guinness World Record, contrary to popular belief.
The young chef made this revelation in a chat with BBC Yoruba after successfully reaching her target of 120 hours.
Chef Dammy, an undergraduate from Ekiti State, gained viral attention on social media when she embarked on an extraordinary feat of cooking continuously for 120 hours.
Many people assumed that her endeavor was an attempt to surpass Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s record for the longest cooking time by an individual.
However, during her interview with the BBC, Chef Dammy clarified that her remarkable endeavor was simply a personal challenge driven by her love for cooking.
“I did it because I enjoy cooking. I didn’t do it to be recognized by the Guinness World Record or to break Hilda Baci’s record,” she said in Yoruba.
In response to Nigerian chef Damilola Adeparusi’s 120-hour cook-a-thon, Guinness World Records has at last spoken out.
The young lady, better known as Chef Dammy from Ekiti State, began trending on social media after she embarked on a 120-hour cooking marathon, attempting to break the record of Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who currently holds the world record for the longest cooking time by an individual.
However, her decision to challenge Hilda Baci’s record sparked mixed reactions and ignited a widespread debate on social media.
On Wednesday morning, June 14, Chef Dammy reached her target of 120 hours, leaving many wondering if Guinness World Records would approve her feat.
To clear the air, Legit.ng sent a press inquiry to Guinness World Records on Tuesday, June 13.
A response received from the organization suggested that the chef did not seek their approval before beginning the cook-a-thon, as there are procedures and rules that would have been sent to her to follow.
The Guinness World Records has announced that Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, successfully crashed their website for two consecutive days with her remarkable cook-a-thon event.
A representative of the record body disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday while officially certifying Hilda as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
The representative said their website crashed because of the immense volume of traffic received from Hilda’s legion of loyal fans.
“Hilda’s cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans,” the rep said.
It is reported that Guinness World Record failed to certify Hilda’s 100-hour-kitchen stint, acknowledging just 93 hours 11 minutes.
The record body said it deducted seven hours from her record because “she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.”

Awe-shocked, she wrote: “This is the best news ever omg omg omg thank you so much.”

She set a new record of 100 hours, however, the Guinness World Records is yet to verify her claims.
In a Twitter post, the Guinness World Records explained that they are reviewing all the evidence before officially confirming her record.
On her Twitter page, Baci noted how she continuously checks her email for confirmation.
She wrote;
“Not me refreshing my email every second since we submitted all the evidence to Guinness World Records,” she tweeted on June 1.
Responding to Hilda Baci’s post, Guinness World Records tweeted that their records team is currently reviewing the evidence.
“Our records team is working on it,” the official Twitter handle of Guinness World Records replied.

A Twitter user @HerStoryUG has shared a picture purporting to beNigerian chef Hilda Baci with a certificate from the Guinness World Record for breaking a record of 100 hours of uninterrupted cooking.
The current record holder is Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours and 45 minutes. According to reports, she broke the record for cooking for over 96 hours. Already, Hilda Baci has received massive support for her attempt to break the current Guinness World Record.
However, the Twitter caption of the photo by @HerStoryUG, on May 16, 2023, says, “Nigerian chef Hilda Bassey has won the Guinness world record for completing 100 hours of cooking by an individual. Congratulations Hilda.”
The post has already received over 53,000 views and over 500 views. Even though reports have been widespread that Ms Baci has broken the Guinness World Record, DUBAWA decided to fact-check the image to discover if she has officially received her certificate from Guinness World Record.
Verification
Investigation using Fotoforensics suggests that the image has had some edits done to it. The JPEG% in the Fotoforensics tool also shows a mass repetition of numbers. This is a red flag. This suggests that the image has, possibly, been edited multiple times.
DUBAWA also ran a Tineye image search and was directed to Rawpixel, a website dedicated to publishing stock photos. DUBAWA saw the original photo captioned, “Cheerful black woman showing a vv sign with a blank speech bubble on the website.”

In the photo above, it is evident that the face of the Nigerian chef Ms Baci has been edited into the original photo. The certificate allegedly from the Guinness World Record is also doctored.
Meanwhile, a reply via the official Twitter handle of Guinness World Records indicated that the organisation knows Hilda’s fantastic record. Still, there will be a need to review all the evidence before officially confirming her record.
“Hilda began cooking on Thursday and continued through to Monday, reportedly whipping up 55 recipes and more than 100 meals in a whopping 100-hour stint,” the May 16, 2023 publication reads.
“Officials on our records team look forward to reviewing the evidence and hope to be able to verify Hilda’s efforts as a new record very soon,” the publication continued.
“We would like you to know we haven’t received the award yet, and we’re currently working on uploading our evidence,” a statement issued on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, read.
Bassey’s team released the statement via Twitter.
In view of this, Ms Baci is not yet certified by Guinness World Records. If Guinness World Record confirms her, she will overtake the current world record holder, Lata Tondon.
Baci, a Nigerian and an Akwa Ibom State native, surpassed the record for the longest cooking time by an individual, with a 100-hour record time. Baci beat Indian chef, Lata Tondon, who had completed the task in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 secs in 2019.
The statement, released on their official website read; “She’s hoping to snap up the record title for the longest cooking marathon (individual) which currently belongs to Lata Tondon (India) with a time of 87 hr 45 min.
“Hilda began cooking on Thursday and continued through to Monday, reportedly whipping up 55 recipes and more than 100 meals in a whopping 100-hour stint.
“Officials on our records team look forward to reviewing the evidence and hope to be able to verify Hilda’s efforts as a new record very soon.”
According to the British reference body, one of its spokespersons said they “are looking forward to receiving the evidence for its Records Management Team to review before we can confirm the record is official.”
Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, is a Nigerian chef and restaurateur who just finalised her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking by an individual.
The chef initially set out to cook for 96 hours to significantly break Lata Tandon’s2019 record of 87 hours and 45 minutes. As the 96th hour approached, she was motivated to extend her attempt to 100 hours and 40 minutes, breaking the record by over 13 hours.
Hilda’s Cook-a-thon started on May 11, 2023, and ended late on May 15, and she prepared over 200 meals served to more than 4,000 people.
While appreciating the love and support, Hilda Baci said, ” I am so amazed at the outpouring of love from Nigerians towards achieving this record. The first six hours were the toughest for me, I had to pray to God for strength.
“I appreciate everyone who took time out to support and encourage me by visiting the venue to cheer me on or driving the conversation on social platforms.
“Your unwavering passion to see me succeed through this attempt is heartfelt. I am grateful to my family, the various teams that worked with me on this project, and fans from all over the world who kept the passion going.’’
The Guinness Book of Records attempt will be ratified after the Official World Record Office verifies the proceedings. This will include ensuring that the attempt is well-measured, standardised, and verifiable.
The barrel-chested Australian from Brisbane performed an incredible 3,206 push-ups in one hour, which equates to an average of over 53 push-ups every minute.
According to the Guinness World Records, Helmke’s attempt took place in his old powerlifting gym, Iron Underground in Brisbane, where he broke the push-ups down into 30-second sets, aiming to complete 26 push-ups in each one.
Lucas was required to maintain perfect form for each push-up, or they wouldn’t count towards the record total.
The body must remain straight throughout, meaning there can be no bending at the knees or waist.
CNN reported that Lucas told Guinness World Records that he wanted to inspire his one-year-old son to believe that anything is achievable with hard work and dedication.
He said: “This will be the first record I wish to set off a number of other push-up records “
Helmke’s determination and rigorous training regimen paid off, as he smashed the previous record of 3,182 set by another Australian man just a year earlier.
Helmke’s excellent form resulted in only 34 of his push-ups being discounted, an impressive accomplishment considering he was attempting to break a world record by going as fast as possible.

Last year, the Tesla co-founder slipped from the top of the billionaire’s list as shares in the automaker declined.

Now, an increased investor demand and customer interest in his recently discounted Tesla models, and a better economic forecast, have propped up his fortunes.
