Following a vicious pickaxe attack at Central Middlesex Hospital in London that left two people with stab wounds, a guy has been detained.
The hospital in Acton Lane, northwest London, is said to have a significant police presence, and officers are now on the site.
According to the police, one person was battling for their life when two people with stab wounds were discovered.
‘Non-life threatening’ injuries are claimed to have been sustained by the other victim.
Before the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 1.18 pm today, armed officers sprang into action.
The suspect is also said to have sustained life-threatening injuries, which he is believed to have inflicted himself, police said.
He is also in hospital.
Police said they do not believe the incident is terror-related and they are not looking for anyone else relating to the attack.
Journalist Amie Ferris-Rotman tweeted: ‘I am at Middlesex Central hospital in the dialysis unit and we’re sheltering in safe rooms.
‘Armed policemen are on the scene, being described as a ‘major incident’.’
Mark Thewlis said: ‘My partner is in lockdown situation.’
A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers will remain in the hospital as further searches are conducted but at this time they are satisfied that no one else is sought.
‘Police are working to establish the circumstances.
At this time the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
‘The hospital was temporarily locked down but has now re-opened and will be operating services as normal.
‘There is a heightened police presence at the hospital while we investigate.’
