Rex Omar, Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), has offered support and guidance to Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, the Ghanaian woman poised to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.

Rex Omar encouraged Asantewaa to prepare a comprehensive list of the songs she intends to perform during the event, underscoring the importance of sharing this list with the royalties collection agency.

He emphasised that compliance with this requirement is crucial to avoid potential restrictions by GHAMRO on Asantewaa from singing copyrighted songs.

In an interview on GTV, Rex Omar highlighted the significance of this advice in ensuring that artists and copyright holders receive due recognition and compensation for the use of their intellectual property.

“She has to list all the songs and their respective artistes. She may not necessarily know the right owners but when you put the artiste there, GHAMRO will know who the right owners are.

She should send a copy to GHAMRO. If she doesn’t do that, GHAMRO can come and stop her,” said Rex Omar in an interview with Kafui Dey.

He continued: “You cannot go and use somebody’s property… By law, she has to list the songs. She must do the right thing. List all the songs you want to sing, and give a copy to GHAMRO so that after you have finished, GHAMRO will follow the money. That is how it is done all over the world.”

Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Askof Productions Limited, is poised to undertake a remarkable four-day Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt at the Akwaaba Village. Beyond a personal milestone, her primary goal is to champion and elevate Ghanaian music through this extensive musical marathon.

With the ambition to surpass the current record set in 2012 by Indian participant Sunil Waghmare, standing at 105 hours, Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum envisions hosting a challenging event lasting an impressive 117 hours.

Throughout this marathon, her exclusive performances will showcase a diverse array of Ghanaian songs, spanning genres such as gospel, highlife, and hiplife.

Motivated by the success of Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon, where she broke a longstanding cooking record, Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum is determined to leave a lasting impact in the music realm. Simultaneously, she aims to contribute to the global recognition of Ghanaian talent on the international stage.
