Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith also known as Chef Smith in a recent interview confessed to creating a fake Guinness World Record certificate.
Chef Smith admitted that he edited one of the certificates available online from the Guinness World Records website to include his own details.
When questioned about the forgery, Chef Smith explained, “I have been following Guinness World Records for a long time.
They have a lot of certificates on their pages, so I just picked one and edited the details to my name.”
He also revealed that his assistant chef was unaware of this fraudulent act.
On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith held a press briefing at La Palm Beach Hotel, claiming to have set the record for the longest individual cooking marathon by cooking for 820 hours.
However, his manager, Benny, asserted they had received a confirmation email from Guinness World Records (GWR).
Despite these claims, GWR clarified that they had no record of any application or attempt from Chef Smith.
Public backlash ensued as it became apparent that the certificate was likely not genuine.
Madalyn Biefield, Public Relations Manager for GWR, stated, “No, it is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.”
