Former manager of Shatta Wale and the Head of A&R at Zylofon Music, Bullgod, has proposed that a giant statue should be erected in honour of Nana Appiah Mensah.
In an interview on Hitz FM’s ‘U Sey Weytin,’ Bullgod praised Nana Appiah Mensah for investing huge sums of money into the creative industry.
“No record label had come like Zylofon. He bought cars, and houses and gave them money. Nana Appiah Mensah deserves a statue in Ghana for what he did for the entertainment space.”
According to the artiste manager, Nana Appiah Mensah had great plans and was keenly working to put Ghana music at the top until the MenzGold saga set in.
“All these numbers these boys are running would have been done way before. Here we are, we had to cut our trees down and let foreign ones grow.”
He added that “Zylofon was responsible for those international plugs… I was head of Zylofon as the CEO of Zylofon Music, there was a deliberate attempt to push every Zylofon act.”
The Zylofon Music record label which signed Shatta Wale, Becca, Joyce Blessing, Stonebwoy, and Kumi Guitar, among others, collapsed when its CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah went down over the Menzgold scandal which rocked the nation back in 2018.
It’s been days since Stonebwoy released his sing along anthem ‘GIDIGBA’ which is a great song by all standards.
Just a few days after the release, a rendition popped up online by one @ aligta.app who went in hard on our political leaders (both the ruling and opposition class).
The lyrics of this rendition is nothing but real facts. But one funny thing about this song is the chorus or hook.
This guy used a very hilarious and very catchy ‘GA’ word ‘GBEMIWAA’ and this is what seems to be making people love the rendition even more.
It was trending on Twitter just a day ago. A fan shared it as a reply to a post BBC made about the Ghanaian president with regards to the use of Ghanaian artiste AYAT’s music video by the Ghana Tourism Authority. Ironically, this fan-reply led to a whole lot of tweeps commenting and retweeting the snippet of the visualiser all over Twitter.
Just today, controversial HIP-LIFE musician and political activist A-PLUS also shared a short snippet of Aligata’s Gidigba refix visualiser on his official verified Facebook account and the fans are going crazy in the comment session amidst numerous re-shares.
Apparently, it’s going crazy on Tik Tok and Instagram too.
I won’t talk much. Follow this link and go check it out yourself https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMFJMLcHt/
“Stonebwoy plays free shows outside Ghana’ but he just rewarded himself with a customised Bentley Flying Spur worth $230,000 which is equivalent to Ghc 2,429,568.20 over 24 billion old Ghana cedis
The narrative that the Afrodancehall maestro is a ‘cheap’ artiste should be trashed once and for all because splashing such a huge amount of money on a single purchase speaks about his heavy financial muscles
In a video that surfaced on social media yesterday, Stonebwoy showed off the black-coloured car in a video on social media.
In the video which has been widely shared on Instagram blogs, Stonebwoy is seen seated in the car which’s number plate was customised with the Gidigba singer’s moniker, 1GAD.
Alot of congratulatory messages took over the comments section of the video because the musician is now enjoying the fruits of his hard labour.
Nigerian artiste Davido, who has featured Stonebowy on a number of songs and vice versa has taken to his IG story to congratulate his colleague.
Sharing a clear picture of Stonebwoy’s new toy, Davido captioned it as; “Congrats @Stonebwoy”
We must appreciate Stonebwoy’s hard work and the possibility of him being able to afford that expensive ride.
The CEO of Burniton Music Group, Livingstone Etse Satekla, known in showbiz as Stonebwoy has flaunted videos of his newly purchased Bentley Flying Spur.
Stoebwoy‘s love and high taste for expensive and luxury acquisitions are obvious as he has on many events wanted to be noticeable for owning such cars.
Some videos spotted on his Snapchat and other social media pages capture him rocking a green top, and a cap over a pair of blue jeans while comfortably sitting in the driver’s seat of his brand-new Bentley Flying Spur.
The award-winning singer was again captured taking his new whip around as he flaunted the exquisite interior and logo on the wheel to indeed prove to her fans that he has indeed acquired one of the world’s most expensive and luxurious cars.
The caption of the various posts Stonebwoy shared online was simply about rewarding himself for all the hard work he has been doing over the years.
Checking online, it is revealed that the 2022 Bentley Flying Spur costs about $204,500 which is approximately Ghc2,166,755.
After ‘Aabwoy’ purchased and flaunted a new Bentley, a fan of Ghanaian dancehall musician Stonebwoy descended on Shatta Wale in opulence.
According to the fan, Shatta Wale can never purchase such a car, even if given 600 years to do so!
StonebwoyStonebwoy is bragging differently this morning.
The ‘Baafira’ hitmaker has a new ride and he’s showing it off to the public.
The new ride is a Bentley, which Stonebwoy probably got from a rich friend or a company to promote – but this is showbiz and you gotta show off these things as your newest acquisitions!
Check out the car below…
As he flaunted his new ‘la borrow’ car, his fans are also proud and taking shots at Shatta Wale.
One fan said Wale could never acquire a car as expensive as the one Stonebwoy just bought.
“It will take shatta wale 600 years to get this,” the BHIM fan said.
An angry Wale fan clapped back: “Man do susu take buy car wale dey buy cars no now ooo and e dey give the street moni , u ever see say stonebwoy giv someone moni before or throw moni before 😂”
Stonebwoy has a new song that features Kenya’s rap heavyweight, Khaligragh Jones.
On Monday, October 3, the BET award-winning international Reggae/Dancehall artist shared a 15-second clip of what appears to be a new song with an unconfirmed title.
In the video posted across his social media channels, Stonebwoy is captured in a recording studio with Khaligraph Jones vibing to the song.
Stonebwoy arrived in Kenya at the weekend to begin a week-long media tour and music activations across the country.
The tour comes off the back of an epic performance at the 2022 GUBA Awards in Rwanda, which was attended by the CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr, as well as state officials, dignitaries, and other stakeholders.
As part of his activities, the four-time AFRIMA Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year awardee has appeared on some of the country’s most renowned media channels, including Soundcity Radio, TRACE, Boomplay, and NRG Radio, to discuss his brand and promote his new singles “Therapy” and “Gigigba.”
He also connected with Kenya’s boy band, Sauti Sol, creating an impression of a soon-coming collaboration.
Stonebwoy is expected to be in other parts of East Africa in the coming days.
Ghana witnessed one of the biggest outdoor events on September 24, 2022, and there’s been several talking points emanating from the event.
From production, performances, to who was brought who on stage to the President of Ghana receiving some jeers from a section of the crowd, it’s been such a week inundated with varied chatter on what transpired at the Black Star/Independence Square.
As we are still reeling over the grand spectacle that was unfurled last weekend, it would also be disingenuous on our part as an industry not be pick valuable lessons from the festival and try and better our space of events, production, performances and everything else.
It is really possible that we can have major concerts like that of Global Citizen Festival and not have any flaws.
There are quite a number of lessons to pick from but for the sake of lack of space, let’s stick with investment, organization, discipline, and timing among others.
Investment
From the gigantic stage to the exquisite set-up to everything else that went into the promotion of the show, the level of production and the international artistes billed, there’s little dispute on the sort of investment that was injected into the Festival.
Global Poverty Project, owners of the Global Citizen Festival run a well-financed Non-Governmental Organization with connections to various governments and the United Nations – making the festival one of the most expensive.
Most of the technical guys and assistants used for the festival are Ghanaians, led by Kojo Poku and Edem Lumor among others – and pulled off one of the best outdoor shows ever staged in Ghana.
The fact is; the likes of Big Ideas, Charterhouse, Image Bureau, Silicon House, 3Music and others have the men, the expertise and knowledge to pull events like Global Citizen but there’s one major setback; funding.
Clearly, there’s expertise, there are amazing performers, a music-loving public and a convivial environment to hold as many big concerts as possible. All we need is the adequate investment to have such a stage, set up and everything else that comes with staging a mammoth concert like what we witnessed.
Organization
The kind of organization that was exhibited with the Global Citizen Festivalwas top tier. From the day Accra was announced one of 2 host cities till the last performing act finished his set, everything, every move was properly planned and expertly executed.
For a moment, the feeling was that, the publicity was low in months leading to the event, but that was a wrong mindset. They had all avenues for marketing covered – starting with that massive online promotion, then traditional media took over and then with days to the event, the euphoria kicked in.
The organization on the day of the event was exemplary – from set up, to strict entry rules, security, strict performance rules, to the sharing and refilling of water bottles to refresh patrons. Amazing stuff!
Security was adequate and properly managed – from car park to the main event and on stage, no room was left for any unnecessary skirmish.
To have such an event and not have complaints of safety and security to bad performances tell of how grand the event was put together.
Discipline
One cannot recount how our artistes were this disciplined to any of our home-based events. For Global Citizen Festival, our A-list acts were humble, listened and complied with all directives without squealing.
Ghanaian artistes were not late for dress rehearsal, they were early to their hotels and of course, they were on time for their performances on the night.
Even Stonebwoy had no qualms opening the show as early as 8pm. In fact, from his entry to exit, he gave one of the best performances on the night.
If our artistes could exercise such restraint, tolerance and control and listen to foreign event organizers, then moving forward, they must exhibit the same form of discipline to our local events.
Timing
One of the biggest banes for our events is time. We hardly stick to the advertised time for the commencement and closure for most of our high-profile shows. That was not the case with Global Citizen Festival. The show kicked off officially at 8pm with Stonebwoy as the opening act and closed before 1am with Usher as headlining act – including all the various speeches and commitments expressed by World Leaders.
For a show produced live for TV and streamed across the world, the handling and execution of production was world-class.
The VGMAs and 3Music Awards are produced for TV too yet, the Red Carpet segment for such shows commence late in the night, forcing such shows to close very late – not to mention the technical challenges that fraught the events.
We know it is possible to have a blemish-less event like Global Citizen in Ghana; it is about to our home-based events having enough resources, having proper planning and handling and effective execution.
Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has labeled as impossible claims that he is often sidelined by some event organizers in the country.
The dancehall artiste said he usually charges US$200, 000 and above for shows and because some people cannot afford that, he (Shatta Wale) willingly decides not to participate in their event.
Shatta’s comments are on the back of claims that he was sidelined for the 2022 Global Citizen Concertwhich saw the likes of Usher, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Gyakie, Tiwa Savage, Oxlade, and many others perform at the Independence Square in Accra.
Scores of individuals including Akuapem Poloo, Afia Schwarzenegger, and many others have wondered why the dancehall artiste wasn’t billed for the prestigious event which featured most A-list artistes.
Critics trolled Shattawhile stating that he was sidelined by the event organizers after they sought validation from some showbiz industry bigwigs and got bad feedback about him.
The ‘live band king’ Stonebwoy was recently at the GUBA Awardsand as usual, he did not disappoint.
Fresh off his Global Citizen Festival performance on Saturday, 24 September 2022, the ‘Activate ‘hitmaker gave Rwanda a performance to remember.
He was one of the acts that graced the stage at the Grow, Unite, Build, Africa (GUBA) Awards held at the Intare Conference Arena in Kigali (Rwanda).
His performance was announced with a VCR which showed Stonebwoy Street in Ashaiman and introduced him as a multi-hyphenate artist who dabbles in reggae, dancehall, afrobeats, and highlife.
Stonebwoy performed with a band and backup singers who showed off their vocals while harmonizing with him.
He started his set with ‘Le Gba Gbe’ and performed songs such as ‘Strength and Hope’, ‘Higher’, ‘Sobolo’, and ‘Therapy’ before ending his set with ‘Activate’. In addition to thrilling the crowd, Stonebwoy used his performance to preach oneness and unity in Africa.
His performance was received well by the audience as they nodded their heads, stood up to dance, and sang along. Notable among the persons who stood and danced during Stonebwoy’s performance was the CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr.
The GUBA Awards seek to reward the innovation of African individuals and organizations in the diaspora and home working towards the advancement of the community.
Contrary to a claim by Kojo Poku, the Chief Executive Officer of Big Ideaz Consult, a local partner of the just-ended Global Citizen Festivalin Accra, that none of the artists billed for the event was paid a performance fee, Gyakie, one of the musicians who performed at the event said she was duly paid.
3news.com quotes Gyakie to have said on 3FM Drive, Tuesday, that she was paid a full amount.
“Yes, everybody that was on the stage was obviously paid. The dancers, the choristers, the band. Everybody,” she said while responding in the affirmative that she was given what was due her.
“Yes. (full amount?) Absolutely. Every single person was paid.”
The Global Citizen Festival 2022 came off at the Black Star Square on September 24. It wasn’t an average Accra Saturday evening as stars from around the world and within Ghana graced the show.
With powerhouses like Usher, SZA, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Gyakie and Stormzy on the bill, the event saw tens of thousands thrilled to spectacular performances.
After the successful event, Kojo Poku in an interview 3FM said performers were not paid because they understood the rationale behind the concert.
He said: “I have to say that no artist was paid a performance fee for this. Everyone who mounted the stage did so out of the benevolence of their heart and the Global Citizen because it’s bigger than how much you’ll make out of a performance on that stage.”
What is the Global Citizen Festival?
Global Citizen Festival is an annual music festival where fans take actions toward ending extreme poverty in order to earn free tickets. The festivals bring together Global Citizens, artists, activists, world leaders, philanthropists, corporate leaders, and more, with one collective mission: End Extreme Poverty NOW.
Global Citizen Festival is timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly to leverage opportunities to get policy and financial commitments from government, corporate, and philanthropic leaders to defeat poverty, demand equity, and defend the planet.
The topic ‘Greedy Men’ has for the past five hours been the headlining trend on social media in the country. On the bird app, ‘Greedy Men’ takes the top spot for the most engaged topic.
It all began when ace journalist and television personality, Kafui Dey published on his official Twitter page that he has nominated Stonebwoy’s hit single, ‘Greedy Men’ for the Grammy Awards category, ‘Best Song for Social Change’.
The category was established to honour songwriters and musicians whose songs address a timely social issue and promotes understanding, peacebuilding and empathy.
In his post, the celebrated media personality wrote, “I have just submitted @stonebwoy’s anti Galamsey song ‘Greedy Men’ to the Grammy @RecordingAcad for consideration in the ‘Best Song for Social Change’ category. Try and do same too.”
I have just submitted @stonebwoy’s anti Galamsey song ‘Greedy Men’ to the Grammy @RecordingAcad for consideration in the ‘Best Song for Social Change’ category.
Briefly after this post, Kafui Dey shared a reply from the recording academy indicating that they have received his nomination of ‘Greedy Men’ for the social change category.
Kafui Dey called on his many followers to do same and the response was positive and instant as fans shared screenshots of their nominations with the hashtag ‘Greedy Men’. This made ‘Greedy Men’ the most engaged topic on social media.
‘Greedy Men’ by Ghanaian Reggae-Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, is a song that talks about corruption in Africa and the world. It also highlights human activities such as illegal mining, deforestation and many other social problems and calls for immediate solutions to these challenges.
As the only Ghanaian female artist to perform on the Global Citizen Festival stageat the Black Star Square last night, Gyakie did an incredible job representing the country and doing her part in being a contributing voice for global change.
The fast-rising singer started her performance with the reggae song Waka Waka off her recently released “My Diary” EP. An unlikely song intro to her performance, Gyakie delivered a fantastic live rendition of the song with the help of the Ghana Army regimental Band. At the same time, the Ghana flag and branded Gyakie flags were waved behind her: A statement of who she is and where she is from.
Fitting that she is referred to as Queen by people in the industry and her fans, Gyakie showed up on stage, resplendent in a bedazzled outfit by Eleanore, thrilling fans with “Far Away” and her hit single, “Forever” the remix, before ending with her current hit, “Something”.
Gyakie’s band, backing vocalists, and instrumentalists were testament to the fact that she has come a long way since her first performance as an artist, and the future is promising for what she is capable of in the coming years.
In a statement from the Songbird on stage, Gyakie revealed the source of her consistency, hard work and achievements were the young girls around the world, who look up to her. She said: “Before I do anything, I try to picture two or three girls that look up to me. I have their faces etched in my mind as a reminder of my responsibility to show up in a way that inspires them and lets them know they can be anything they want to be, no matter the odds against them.”
The Global Citizen Festival is the world’s longest-running global campaign calling for an end to extreme poverty. Through the Festival, the organization brings together millions of people to amplify the message to #EndPovertyNow and this year, in celebrating 10 Years of impacting change, the event was split into two locations:
Accra and New York with artists like Sza, Usher, Tems, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy performing while dignitaries from around the world including his Excellency, President Akuffo-Addo delivered speeches calling for leaders and persons around the world to take action to #EndPovertyNow.
Event organization is an arduous and complex terrain. From conceptualization to the composition of a team, to resource mobilization, to marketing, to delivery, it is such a mammoth task which requires grit. Some people presume event organization as an easy task until they have first-hand experience.
Unfortunately, the smooth ecosystem in Ghana to facilitate event organization is virtually non-existent. While industry players and ‘ordinary’ citizens strive to see a miraculous change in new event organizations, a new yardstick has been created – the Global Citizen Festival.
What is this new yardstick?
Over the weekend, the Global Citizen Festival (GCF) came off as one of (if not) the best-produced entertainment event in Ghana. Everything was perfect, from the artist lineup, promotions, performances, light, sound, set up, audience control, extra support for attendees (charging ports, free refillable water stations), and live stream. In the past few decades, I have witnessed many events as a physical and a virtual audience. However, I have not even caught such a flawless piece of work.
During and after the event, many netizens in Ghana concur that the GCF has set a benchmark for rating future shows organized by our ‘local’ entertainment bigwigs. That’s fair enough. Barring any other noteworthy piece not directly mentioned, I am convinced that the event’s success rested on a large pool of resources – human and capital.
Expertise and sub-substandardness of local production:
Getting experts to run successful events in Ghana has been a severe bane to event organizations. British Advertising Tycoon David Mackenzie Ogilvy once said, “Hire people who are better than you are, then leave them to get on with it. Look for people who will aim for the remarkable, who will not settle for the routine”. Unfortunately, one of Ghana’s significant shortfalls is the lack of technical know-how. Not to say that we don’t have people who have experience in handling events in Ghana. But, the challenge is those who have ‘experience’ are stuck to a particular mundane routine over the years and ‘refuse’ to learn or grow.
Why do I say that? First, it was fascinating to see that our ‘experienced guys’ such as Mr Rudy Kwakye(served as a team lead), Mr Frank Kwakye (sound), and Derrick Ankomah, alongside other production crew members, played impressive roles in the successful organization of the GCF. Yet, these same people offer services to event organizers in Ghana and produce negligible differences yearly. Correct?
So the big question is, what different methods did organizers of the event rely on to pull off such an incredible event? The answer is simple. Our ‘experienced practitioners’ were led/directed by ‘experienced professionals’ (foreigners essentially) assigned by the GCF organizers. For instance, the OB Van (owned by a Ghanaian) used to operate the control room was handled by “outsiders/foreigners”. Not to take anything away from us, but we are just so accustomed to a particular norm.
Thus, pulling off a spectacular production is challenging unless there’s a direction from an “outsider”. Our experienced guys would not take a word from you (as a local) if you tried to suggest other creative ways to get the job done. You will likely hear statements such as, “do you know how long I have been doing this? This is my job; let me handle it”. But do they say the same to “outsiders”? Your guess is as good as mine.
We need skilled individuals to thrive in every facet of our industry. But how will we learn new techniques and improve when there is an institutional and financial lapse? When the people themselves are used to the same routine and are unteachable – unless it is a foreigner?
Finance:
On finance, while going through the feeds on Facebook and Twitter, I saw how some netizens went hard on events such as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards – calling them out to take a cue from the GCF and do better. But one missing link was that very few considered (or consider) the level of capital investment that went into the production of the GCF. The budget, if disclosed, would shock the bone marrow of ordinary Ghanaians who lack insight into what goes into the production of a successful event. I, therefore, ask, when will corporate Ghana and the government understand that the creative arts industry can drive tourism and help accrue millions of dollars into the Ghanaian economy?
On this side of the sun, event organizers will go arm’s length to secure sponsorship only to be given a paltry of it (that is when they successfully get any). Lack of financial support leads to inadequate funds to pay for “experts” and acquire advanced equipment to run a flawless event. While the sound guy is underpaid, the light guy is taking his share. As a result, everyone is de-motivated right from the onset, leading to poor production year in and year out. I must also mention GSF employed a large pool of Human resources to see the event’s efficiency. It won’t be surprising that the cost of paying the crew alone can be the entire budget of several “big events” in Ghana. Capital is thus critical in acquiring the tools and human resources needed to man these tools.
Impact on economy:
Notably, the creative arts industry contributes significantly to counties’ gross domestic product (GDP) worldwide. For instance, in 2020, Media and entertainment contributed a whopping $2 trillion annual economic impact globally and some $500 billion in the United States. It is estimated that about 5 million people are employed within the audiovisual space alone in the creative arts industry, bringing in about $5 billion annually. Sadly, we do not have precise data on the influence of the creative art industry on our economy.
Way forward:
Consequently, I hope that while we set the GCF as a benchmark for future events in Ghana, funding bodies and the government will open their arms wide to support the creative industry. I still consider it an untapped sector. We need to do more. Also, event organizers need to stop underpaying creatives – all in a bid to make so much for themselves. If the resource is available, it is better to pay creatives well, as it would lead to the success of the events. What’s the return on this? Better sponsorship packages for subsequent events.
Additionally, our ‘experts’ need to take it upon themselves to outgrow their comfort zone. It is time for them to plug themselves into international productions to acquire enhanced skills and knowledge to change the fortunes of event organizations in Ghana. On the flip side, I believe our ‘experienced guys’ learnt a thing or two about production while working with these “foreign experts”.
I would use this opportunity to congratulate all the acts who performed, especially our Ghanaian acts, for their stellar performances. Big shouts to Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Gyakie, DWP Academy, Kwesi Arthur and Yaw Tog. You made us proud.
From the United States of America came Usher Raymond, SZA, and H.E.R. British act of Ghanaian descent, Stomzy and Nigeria’s Tems who also performed at the programme.
Stormzy brought on stage two of Ghana’s enterprising musicians, Yaw Tog and Kwesi Arthur who did the remix of Yaw Tog’s ‘Sore’ which features all the three acts.
Usher during his performance also brought on stage three Nigerian acts: Oxlade, Tiwa Savage, and Pheelz.
Ghana’s DWP Academy, with choreographed dances by Afrobeast, put up spectacular performances for the artistes.
Hype MCs Kojo Manuel, OGee and DJ Mic Smith were also in their element at the concert.
Uncle Waffles joined the lineup of performers in Accra with Berla Mundi, Joselyn Dumas, Michaela Coel, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Sabrina Dhowrie Elba as presenters.
The event in Accra was hosted by award-winning actor, playwright, and activist Danai Gurira.

Through the Festival, the organization brings together millions of people to amplify the message to #EndPovertyNow, and this year, in celebrating 10 Years of impacting change, the event will be split into two locations: Accra and New York.
The 2022 Global Citizen Festival campaign is supported by governments and world leaders across the world.
Since its inception in 2012, the Global Citizen Festival has become the world’s longest-running global campaign, calling for an end to extreme poverty, gender inequality, and environmental degradation.
According to the founder of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, SDRs (a type of reserve asset mostly sitting unused by the world’s wealthiest countries) can immediately provide new and affordable financing relief for countries at high risk of financial and debt distress.
Global Citizen is calling for world leaders, major corporations, and philanthropic foundations to take to the Global Citizen Festival stages and announce new commitments to End Extreme Poverty NOW, by deploying funds to meet the total goal of reallocating $100 billion in IMF Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), by making up the $40B shortfall.
The festival held in Accra yesterday saw UK rapper, Stormzy, American singers, Usher and SZA gracing the one of a kind stage mounted at the Black Star Square.
Local artistes were not left out. Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Gyakie represented the motherland with mesmerizing individual performances.
When it was his turn to perform, Stonebwoy arrived at the festival on a horseback with escorts wielding Ghana flags before disembarking to climb the stage to meet a “hungry” and excited crowd.
Sharing a video of the moment, his wife who was also at the festival wrote in a caption: “epic entry!”.
On a night where two of Ghana’s elite collection of ‘S’ artistes scored important points for wowing patrons at the Global Citizen Festival, the ‘dancehall king inna di whole’ was no where to be found.
While Sarkodie and Stonebwoy were entertaining patrons at the Black Star Square on Saturday, September 24, 2022; Shatta Wale was conspicuously missing.
Stonebwoy who performed first thrilled the crowd with his energetic performance and got praised for the top-notch performance.
Sarkodieon the other hand, per social media commentary, carried the night with his electric and touching performances.
Other Ghanaian acts like Kwesi Arthur, Yaw Tog among others, were featured but Shatta Wale was not spotted at the event.
The absence of Shatta Wale at the event has triggered conversations on social media with questions on why he was not present at the event.
Others are also trolling him as they believe in most prestigious events, he is often left out.
The event also had international acts like Stormzy, Usher, Tiwa Savage, among others.

This show wey Shatta Wale no perform de3 ego pain am oo
As the DJ dropped SHATTA WALE’S Song, the fans were singing it loud word to word than all the Artistes that performed on the stage. Goat for a reason. pic.twitter.com/TFgHGAfl6H
At the end of the day, Shatta Wale who got the street is at home and Stonebwoy who does have the street on the one performing to an empty venue I guess 🤣.
Music has evolve so passed only having the street love, it includes everybody.
Someone said all the artists who perform at the GLOBAL CITIZEN FESTIVAL are very decent that is why SHATTA WALE was not invited to perform aah Ghana 🇬🇭#GlobalCitizenFestival
In a snippet of his performance of his “Caught Up” track, Usher ha the crowd singing alongside as he delivers hi typical dance moves and ‘interaction’ with the microphone stand.
On Friday, 23 September, 2022, he visited parts of the capital city Accra including a basic school in the Chorkor community.
The ‘My Way’ hitmaker was in the company of officials representing the Global Citizens Festivaland the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
Sharing pictures of the tour on social media, the GTA wrote: “Today, the Global Citizen Festival Artiste Usher and SZA visited BASICS International and toured the Chorkor community.
“BASICS International is an education-focused NGO in Chorkor, Accra, engaged in making education and childcare accessible in vulnerable communities. The organisation is also one of Global Citizen’s regional response partners for the End Extreme Poverty NOW campaign for Global Citizen Festival: Accra.”
The 10th Global Citizen Festival at the Black Star Square had performances from Americans Usher, SZA, HER, British-Ghanaian Stormzy, Nigerian Tems, and Ghanaian stars Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Gyakie.
As customary of the Adonai rapper, Sarkodie stepped out in style, rocking a white Cole Buxton t-shirt on black shorts. He completed his look with a pair of Nike Dunk sneakers and a red scarf with white polka dots.
Posting a photo collection on Instagram, Sarkodieshared several pictures of his stage rehearsal. He also included pictures of himself getting off the stage and walking with his crew. Captioning the post, he wrote;
The Global Citizen Festival will take place on Saturday, 24 September, for the first time in Accra and will see performances from Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Gyakie and Nigerian singer Tems. In addition, international acts like Usher, SZA, H.E.R and Stormzy will thrill fans during the show.
Dancehall singer, Stonebwoyhas announced that he will stay strong and keep his head high despite the plans against his career by some Ghanaian industry players who sabotage him.
On Friday, September 24, the singer published a screenshot of a conversation with a friend who had received a tipoff of a plot against his brand.
In their chart, the sender brought to the fore how Stonebwoy’s colleagues have been pitched against him by these same stakeholders in the music industry.
“KING, honestly the agenda against you is wild o. Very wild. Some industry players say ‘he is not there for us, when we need him.’ Reason they keep pitching…” the unknown sender told Stonebwoy.
In response, the ‘Gidigba’ singer published the screenshot to officially announce to the public all the schemes and arrows fired at him.
“Topic for another day, Time is the master…We See Them And We Know Them.. Still We Stand #Gidigba,” he tweeted.
Another Ghana and Nigerian collaboration is on the way as Stonebwoy, has expressed his intention to collaborate with Nigerian Afrobeat singer Oxlade on his “Therapy” single.
A few weeks ago, the Bhim President delivered a stunning song titled “Therapy.”
The Award-winning dancehall crooner graced the speakers of his followers and music enthusiasts with the smashing, which is steadily making outstanding success on the music market.
The song has dominated all digital streaming services and continues to project and extend its wings outside of Ghana’s boundaries, advancing Stonebwoy’s musical career.
Oxlade, a singer from Nigeria, posted the song on his Twitter page, and Stonebwoy responded by saying he wanted to work with him on the remix version.
Oxlade in the comment section dropped a handshake emoji which implied that he is up for the remix.
This won’t be Oxlade’s first Ghana Collaboration. Recall that he was featured on Sarkodie’s “Non-Living things” which was released in 2021.
Award-winning Ghanaian musician, released his first single “Therapy” for the year on My 3, 2022 and it has amassed over 1million views on YouTube which was shortly after Stonebwoy sealed a music distribution deal with Def Jam Recordings and Universal Music Africa.

In a Twitter post sighted by GhanaWeb, the Ghana Police Service wrote: “The suspects who are being held for various offences attacked some of the funs with toy guns, cutlasses, knives, scissors and other offensive weapons at different locations towards the end of the concert.”
In a separate tweet, they added: “The Police arrested 42 suspects during the Ashiaman to the World concert held on 3rd August, 2022 at the Saka Saka park in Ashiaman in the Greater Accra Region.”
Meanwhile, veteran broadcaster, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, has disclosed that police personnel narrated how robbers outnumber them despite efforts to prevent casualties this year.
“The police told me that this wasn’t the first time robberies had taken place at the concert. It happens yearly when armed robbers intentionally storm the place. An official told me that his regional command deployed more police personnel, but the armed robbers outnumbered them. They were more than the police. I will plead with the organizers to maybe change the venue because that same Ashiaman route was where I was robbed. They took away all my phones and dollars,” KKD disclosed in an interview on Onua Maakye on Monday, September 5.
He added that a woman who was rushed to the Tema General Hospital sustained knife injuries.
“Police personnel were deployed to the concert however the thieves outnumbered them. I witnessed a fair lady whose thigh had been slashed with a knife. She was rushed to Tema General Hospital. Also, a young man was cut with a sharp object, his shirt had been cut open with scissors.”

The suspects who are being held form various offences attacked some of the funs with toy guns, cutlasses, knives, scissors and other offensive weapons at different locations towards the end of the concert.
The show was massively attended by music lovers from across the continent.
Three years down the lane, Shattahas expressed his worry over the decision by organizers to tag Stonebwoyas a “very special guest” in his own motherland in the 2022 edition of the festival, while the big spot as a headliner has been handed over to ‘foreigners’, Davido and P-Square from Nigeria.
Following the announcement of the Afro Nation’s phase one artiste list, the outspoken dancehall musician, Shatta, who has for years been fighting for the promotion of Ghanaian music and its artiste took to his officail Snapchat account to vent his frustrations.
“How can you be a special guest in your own country and they are happy about it,” read the post, which was in connection to the music festival.
According to him, it was funny for organizers to overlook Stonebwoy, one of Ghana’s biggest musicians, and wondered why the artiste gave consent to the line up.
Ghanaian socialite, entrepreneur and brand influencer, who is popular for her obsession with Stonebwoy, took Ghanaians by surprise when she took to social media to make some claims about Stonebwoy.
In the earlier hour of Friday, September 3, 2022, Ayisha Moditook to her Instagram page to throw some shades at the boss of Burniton Music Group, Stonebwoy.
The shades of Ayisha Modi were a reaction to an interview Stonebwoy granted Nana Romeo of Accra FM as part of activities leading up to the return of his popular Ashiaman To The World Festival slated for Saturday, September 3, 2022.
In the interview, Stonebwoy subtly suggested that Ayisha Modi was not really a part of his team all along, however, just like any fan, she just used the privilege she got to come close to him to somehow make a name for herself.
It appeared that those remarks did not sit well with Ayisha Modi who quickly took to Instagram to warn Stonebwoy to desist from making such utterances.
Amid the reactions to the things Ayisha Modi said, she has come back on some media to reveal that her attack on Stonebwoy was just a ploy to hype his upcoming concert — and in her view, it worked to perfection because everybody online is talking about Stonebwoy.
Speaking to Nana Romeo in an exclusive interview on Accra FM, the singer explained that crime is not exclusive to Ashaiman and, like every community that records cases of criminal activities, Ashaimanhas its fair share of such unfortunate events.
According to him, it is erroneous for people to conclude that Ashaiman is not a safe community based on the criminal activities of a select group of people.
“In every home, there is a bad nut, and that is the situation Ashaiman finds itself. Even in America and Germany, there are records of crime, so Ashaiman is not isolated from such acts. It is very wrong for anyone to assume Ashaiman people are bad generally because of the actions of a few people,†Stonebwoy explained while promoting his show Ashaiman to the World.”
Touching on the safety of fans during his Ashaiman to the World Concert”, Stonebwoy indicated that his team has put measures into place to safeguard attendees.
He called on fans to take charge of their personal security and heed all laid down security protocols for the event.
He said, “My team and I are working very hard on security, but again, everyone must be responsible and obey all the security protocols for their own safety.â€
This was disclosed at a farewell celebration held in Accra after the ambassador to Ghana had served her four-year term in office.
Bola Ray and Stonebwoy were among the numerous Ghanaian superstars who attended the farewell celebration.
In a tweet shared by Bola Ray, Stonebwoy is captured announcing that Anne Sophie Eve has been made a permanent Ghanaian and also thanked her for the love she has shown the Ghanaian music industry.
“…Bola Ray says I should break the news on behalf of her excellency Anne Sophie Eve has been made a permanent citizen of Ghana,†he said.
Other celebrities who showed up at her send-off party also included Kwame Eugene, Stacy Amoateng, Kalsume Sinare, and husband, among others.
A talent manager and former ardent Stonebwoy supporter, Ayisha Modi, has for months avoided engaging in social media activity, leaving many to speculate as to why she has chosen to remain “silent” in the business.
Ayisha, alias “She Loves Stonebwoy,” on Wednesday used her Instagram page to reveal a secret about herself. She also said that her distinct personality has cost her friends, particularly the ones who couldn’t handle her.
She has decided to persevere by improving herself in order to face these obstacles, nevertheless.
“Sometimes you just have to die a little inside in order to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you….!!!. I am different, and it has cost me many people, but I am always myself. It is better to lose others than to lose yourself to Fit in. OBAA YAA MODI,” she captioned a photo that captured her beside a car.
Ayisha made headlines early this year with her drastic weight loss. This outspoken woman has gone mute following her feud with actress and comedienne Afia Schwarzenegger.
After suffering several verbal attacks from industry colleague Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, has noted that Shatta Wale, will do anything for attention.
He said, even if it means putting dirt on the brand of his colleagues.
He explained that his relationship with Samini was the beginning of Shatta’s unexplained jabs thrown at him, however, for the sake of peace, he held himself from hitting back at him in all those instances until 2019, when tempers flared on stage at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Speaking on VladTV, Ghana’s dancehall artiste recalled how his colleague ruined his glorious moment when he walked on stage to pick up his award for the ‘Best Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year’.
Although they managed to patch things up after their fight on the VGMA stage, Stonebwoy still labels the love from Shatta as fake.
This is because he continues to jab him at the slightest opportunity, all to create a bad picture of him.
Commenting on his current relationship with Shatta, he noted that the singer can’t turn over a new leaf.
“The last time he tried something on me again over something, dah dah dah, and you know, I hardly talk about him in the media or try to say something about him or put some dirt on him.. You know, that’s who he is, I say without any apology because we know who we know. It’s as simple as that,” he said.
The Dancehall singer added: “…peace is the ultimate, you know, so we managed because we have a whole lot of following and people looking up to us. We managed to come to a nice consensus, but you know, it’s never been genuine because you can’t force people to be who they’re not.
“Subsequently, the man (Shatta) goes on to do him and be him but the truth is that I am used to that. I laugh about it because I know he’s joking with it basically. Even if it’s no joke, that’s the extent of it. It can’t get any worse. I mean, come on…but if necessary, I will come out and say what I have to say, but it is no more necessary.”
Whilst some Ghanaians praised him for his performance, others called him out!
One fan said Stonebwoy was trying too hard to emulate Burna boy with his performance.
“Chairman wan copy wat burnaboy go do,†he said.
This triggered a BHIM fan to come at him hard!
“U people always talk nonsense why do God even create blacks because we are full of bitterness u will not support him but trying to downplay his effort to I can see u are jobless,†he fired.
Some disgruntled customers of the defunct gold-trading company, Menzgold Ghana, have sent a reminder to award-winning dancehall artiste, Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, that they have not forgotten his role in putting them through their current plights.
According to the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers, Stonebwoy should not deceive himself that he can easily re-introduce another investment of similar fashion to Menzgold to his huge fan-base and get away with it.
“Ghana has not forgotten so soon that Livingstone Etse Satekla alias Stonebwoy was one of the lead brand ambassadors for the botched MenzGold investment where in a similar fashion he and others lured their followers into investing in MenzGold which has resulted in the deaths of not less than 179 victims with many others down with various degrees of ailments,†portions of the statement said, reports classfmonline.com.
The group has since called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to arrest Stonebwoy for endorsing and promoting an unlicensed financial scheme called SidiCoinNFT.
Stonebwoy recently announced the new investment scheme via a tweet but the coalition wants even stiffer punitive actions to be taken against the dancehall: to be stripped of any “national or corporate award†he has earned.
“It should be noted that Stonebwoy has over 2.8 million followers on Twitter, over 3.1 million followers on Facebook and over 4 million followers on Instagram and as such we must not take his influence lightly.
“This unlicensed sidicoinNFT has been structured in almost the same manner as MenzGold was. Their legal terms, purity of gold of the coin being offered, fixed percentages of dividends one is assured, and language of their terms and conditions cleverly tells you that this business is a Nam1- made- scam,†the statement co-signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Vice-President, Francis Owusu, added.
The group further expressed shock and disappointment in the dancehall artiste for continuously supporting such initiatives, especially when it is linked to the same person.
“Media reports that this new scheme belongs to Nam1 is not doubtful and as victims of MenzGold we cannot understand why this gentleman has been a bi-annual innovator, creator and father of modern day schemes in Ghana and our state authorities continue to look on helplessly in bringing him and his assigns including Stonebwoy to face full justice,†it added.
The group also wants all relevant security to investigate and arrest all the people linked to the new SidiCoinNFT investment.
“The relevant security agencies and state authorities to investigate, arrest, and prosecute all those behind this SidicoinNFT and its brand ambassador Stonebwoy without delay,†it added.
In the meantime, the company known as SidiCoin says it is not aware of any company registered under the name SidiCoinNFT in the country.

Ghanaian Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, has warded into the on-going debate about Stonebwoy’s ‘Putuu’ hit song.
According to Shatta Wale, it appears the trend now is for artistes to release songs that do not have meaning.
Shatta Wale‘s comments come after several industry players had criticized Stonebwoy for releasing his ‘Putuu’ hit song.
In a Snapchat post sighted by YEN.com.gh, Shatta Wale wondered if singing ‘nonsense’ is the new normal in the music industry.
He also sought his fans opinion on whether he should also release a ‘nonsense’ song.
Posting on his Snapchat, Shatta Wale wrote:
“Ei ryt now nonsense singing be the eish now. Make I drop mine anaa?”
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, had justified what went into the production of his ‘Putuu’ hit song.
Stonebwoy in a Snap sighted by YEN.com.gh stated that he cannot stop praising God because he has helped him attain greatness.
He added that said looking at his independent Burniton Music Group brand and how he built it alone from scratch, he owns Jah all the praise. The ‘Nominate’ hitmaker he also when stops praying.
Ghanaian singer, Stonebwoy finally dropped Putuu (Pray) Freestyle, an afrobeat jam which, according to the dancehall artiste inspires listeners to pray regularly.
The Patapaa-like lyrics had been trending on social media after users identified it in one of his songs. The initial intention was to troll the artiste but Stonebwoy joined in and made it a challenge.
He finally decided to release a song and according to him, the inspiration behind it is very simple. People demanded it and he has delivered.
One would have thought Stonebwoy might slow down after the success of his Anloga Junction album but that won’t be the case as Stonebwoy is seen still putting in more works.
The latest to join the chain of goodnews is the announcement of his collaboration with Kenya’s Victoria Kimani. The news was broken by Stonebwoy on his Instagram handle, just as Victoria Kimani did.
Given the source of the news we can not be in doubt but only expect greatness.
As to when the song will be released the songstress did not state.
About the song itself, the original song featured Ferre Gola and the song was featured on her album titled Afreaka.
This however will not be the first time the Kenyan songstress is hitting the shores of Ghana as she already has two songs with Ghana’s very own, Sarkodie.

Contrary to what has long been speculated that the on-stage Stonebwoy-Shatta Wale brawl was planned, the Afropop and Raggae-Dancehall singer has revealed the action was unintended.
A section of the Ghanaian populace and music lovers believe the rivalry between the two top Ghanaian artistes is just to sell their brands; and the clash at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA19), is no exception.
But speaking on United Showbiz, a popular weekend night entertainment show on UTV, Stonebwoy cleared the air that, he had no such plans with Shatta Wale prior to their big night, as has been concluded by many.
“People say my colleague and I had planned what happened that night but it’s not true, it wasn’t a planned thing. It shows you how serious the music industry is”, he told host, Nana Ama McBrown.
Talking about the fight, the ‘Sobolo’ hitmaker stated he does not want to dwell on the awfulness of the night but rather the good thing it has brought between himself and Shatta Wale.
“I’ve talked about this issue countless times on different platforms across the world but I don’t dwell on the negative side of it. The beautiful thing is that today we sleep peacefully, we wake and call each other on the phone and we are all focusing on our works now and moving forward”, he stated.
Background
Pandemonium broke out on the night of VGMA19 after Stonebwoy went to collect a prize.
He had just been awarded Raggae-Dancehall Artiste of the Year when his musical rival, Shatta Wale, and his entourage mounted the stage.
Video footage of the brawl appears to show Stonebwoy holding a gun.
The action marred the event but after a short delay the VGMA19 in the capital, Accra, resumed.
During the acceptance speech for another award, Stonebwoy apologised to Ghanaians, saying “I only had to react out of natural instincts”.
