Lil Win pursuades Martha Ankomah to settle GHS5m defamation lawsuit outside of court

Troubled Kumawood star Kwadwo Nkansah has successfully persuaded actress Martha Ankomah to settle the GH₵5 million defamation lawsuit outside of court after both parties reached an agreement.

The settlement terms were finalized on Tuesday, February 25, following a previous impasse that had been disclosed in open court.

With this new understanding, the legal teams are required to file the settlement details and reappear before the court on April 1, 2025. Justice Forson Baah Agyepong will then formalize the agreement as a consent judgment.

During the hearing on February 25, 2025, an initial offer from Lilwin and his legal representatives to pay GH₵150,000—comprising GH₵50,000 in legal fees—was outrightly dismissed, with Martha Ankomah’s lawyers deeming it “an eyesore.”

“We have been trying to reach the defendant for settlement,” counsel for the plaintiff stated. “My learned colleague representing Lilwin is here, and I have called her numerous times in an attempt to find common ground,” but with no success.

According to him, it was only the previous Saturday that Lilwin’s legal counsel reached out with a proposal, but the amount suggested was described as inadequate.

Nii Applatu Plange, the lawyer representing Martha Ankomah, emphasized, “In our estimation, this is not a matter worth pursuing further, so we are back in court to continue with the case.”

Lilwin’s counsel acknowledged the statements made in court by the plaintiff’s lawyer but argued that her client’s offer was reasonable.

She admitted being taken aback by the opposing counsel’s strong description of their proposal.

“We are now at the mercy of the plaintiff and the court,” she added.

Clarifying their position, the plaintiff’s lawyer reminded the court, “At our last appearance, we made a significant concession, reducing our demand from GH₵5 million to GH₵2 million. When my learned colleague finally reached out, she proposed GH₵100,000 in compensation and GH₵50,000 for legal fees.”

He maintained that the amount was unsatisfactory, justifying his earlier remarks about it being “an eyesore.”

Lilwin’s counsel explained in court that their proposal included GH₵100,000 for Martha Ankomah and GH₵50,000 in legal fees, bringing the total to GH₵150,000.

“We are approaching the Easter season, and we recognize that the harm caused to the plaintiff is not something that can be measured in monetary terms,” she reasoned.

She further stated, “Considering our faith as Christians, we acknowledge that we cannot adequately compensate Martha Ankomah for her stature.”

She also noted that “We are suggesting a substantial 1.5 billion in the old currency,” which they believe is a fair figure.

The plaintiff’s counsel, however, raised additional concerns regarding the revised apology, arguing that it had not been handled appropriately.

Presiding judge Justice Forson Baah Agyepong, who had previously advised both parties to resolve the matter amicably, expressed frustration, saying, “I won’t say any more; I have counseled both parties enough.”

As it became apparent that the plaintiff and her legal team were unwilling to accept the GH₵150,000 offer and preferred to continue with litigation, Lilwin, through one of his managers, whispered to his lawyer in court.

His counsel then informed the court that her client had decided to increase the amount to GH₵200,000, inclusive of legal fees.

This led to further exchanges in court before both parties approached the bench. After further discussions, they agreed to continue negotiations in chambers without the judge’s direct involvement.

Following nearly two hours of deliberations, the legal teams returned to inform the court that they had successfully reached a settlement.

Upon checking their schedules, both parties confirmed that they would return to court on April 1, 2025, for the formal adoption of the settlement terms as a consent judgment.

While the exact amount agreed upon for general damages remains undisclosed, the final resolution will include a fresh public retraction and an appropriate apology.

Lilwin and Martha Ankomah agrees to settle the GHS 5m defamation lawsuit

Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah and actress Martha Ankomah have agreed to settle a GH₵5 million defamation lawsuit out of court. Both sides have finalized the terms of their agreement.

The decision was made on Tuesday, February 25, after previous settlement talks failed, which was announced in open court.

According to Starr FM, the next step requires both parties to submit the agreed settlement terms and appear in court on April 1, 2025. Justice Forson Baah Agyepong will then officially approve it as a consent judgment.

Earlier on February 25, 2025, Lil Win and his team offered GH₵150,000 as compensation, including GH₵50,000 for legal fees. However, Martha Ankomah’s lawyers dismissed the offer, calling it an “eyesore”.

We have been pursuing the defendant for a settlement,” counsel for Ankomah stated. “My learned friend (counsel for Lil Win) is present, and I have contacted her multiple times to reach an agreement, but to no avail.

    Rejection of Initial Offer

Counsel for the plaintiff revealed that it was only on the preceding Saturday that the defendant’s legal team proposed a new offer, which was still deemed “an eyesore.”

Nii Applatu Plange, counsel for the plaintiff, stated,

In our view, it is not an offer we can entertain further, so we have returned to court for the case to proceed.

The defence counsel confirmed that the statements made by the plaintiff’s legal team were largely accurate but insisted that Lil Win’s offer was “reasonable.”

I am, however, surprised to hear my learned friend describe it as ‘an eyesore, she remarked.

Acknowledging the plaintiff’s stance, she added, “We are at the mercy of the plaintiff and the court.”

To clarify, counsel for the plaintiff further noted,

At the last sitting, we significantly reduced our demand from GH€5 million to GH€2 million. However, when my learned friend called, she only proposed covering legal fees and GH€100,000 for Martha to abandon the case.

According to him, this proposal was unacceptable and was the basis for his description of it as “an eyesore.”

Counsel for the defendant explained that “We proposed GH€100,000 for Martha and GH€50,000 for legal fees, bringing the total to GH€150,000.

She further elaborated,”We are approaching Easter, and we recognise that the damages caused to the plaintiff are immeasurable.

We are doing this in the spirit of Christianity… We acknowledge that we cannot put a price on Martha Ankomah’s stature and reputation, she pleaded in mitigation.

She also disclosed that “We are proposing a substantial sum of 1.5 billion in old currency,” arguing that the offer was reasonable.

However, the plaintiff’s legal team also raised concerns about the defendant’s handling of a retraction and apology, which was initially rejected.

Presiding judge Justice Forson Baah Agyepong, who had earlier encouraged both parties to settle, remarked, “I will not intervene any further; I have advised both parties sufficiently.”

As the plaintiff’s legal team remained resolute in rejecting the GH€150,000 offer and insisted on proceeding with the case, Lil Win consulted his team. A member of his management whispered to his counsel, who then informed the court that Lil Win was willing to increase the offer to GH€200,000, inclusive of legal fees.

This prompted further discussions in open court, followed by a private negotiation session. After nearly two hours, both parties emerged to announce that they had reached a final agreement on the terms of settlement.

Following a review of their schedules, both parties agreed to return to court on 1st April 2025 for the terms to be officially adopted as a consent judgment.

Actress Martha Ankomah has reportedly rejected Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah’s, also known as LilWin’s, public apology in the GH¢5 million defamation lawsuit currently before the High Court.

According to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, the actress felt the apology did not meet the standards of a proper retraction and sincere apology.

As discussions to resolve the matter out of court continue, it is likely that a new and acceptable public apology will be issued.

The High Court in Accra has adjourned the case to February 25, 2025, to allow both parties to finalise the terms of their settlement.

The case was held in private on Friday, December 13, 2024, and lasted nearly three hours as the parties and their lawyers worked on an amicable resolution. Both Martha Ankomah and LilWin were present in court with their legal representatives.

The issue began on February 14, 2024, when Martha Ankomah filed a defamation lawsuit against LilWin. She accused the actor of making offensive and damaging remarks about her in a viral video. In the video, LilWin allegedly insulted the actress and dismissed her significance in the film industry.

Martha is seeking GH¢5 million in damages, along with a public apology and retraction of the defamatory comments with the same level of attention the original remarks received.

“Damages in the sum of GH¢5 million for the defamatory statements made by the defendant. Compensatory damages for the damage done to the reputation of the plaintiff.

“Aggravated damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the defamatory words. An order directing the defendant to publish an apology and a retraction of the said defamatory words with the same prominence,” the plaintiff seeks from the court.

LilWin and his lawyers have since entered an appearance while the parties are considering an out-court settlement.

According to reports by EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, the actress found the apology lacking essential elements of a proper retraction and genuine remorse.

As discussions between the two parties continue in an effort to settle the matter outside of court, a more acceptable public apology is expected.

The High Court in Accra has postponed the case to February 25, 2025, for the parties to announce the settlement terms.

During a private session on December 13, 2024, which lasted nearly three hours, both Martha Ankomah and Lil Win, along with their lawyers, worked on resolving the issue amicably.

The defamation suit dates back to February 14, 2024, when Martha Ankomah filed a claim against Lil Win for alleged derogatory remarks made about her in a viral video.

In the video, Lil Win is said to have belittled Martha’s significance in the film industry, sparking her decision to pursue legal action.

Martha Ankomah is seeking GH¢5 million in damages, along with a prominent retraction and apology for the alleged defamatory statements.

In a statement, the lawyer emphasized that Ankomah’s decision to forgive LilWin reflects her strong personal values and commitment to reconciliation.

She indicated that despite the harm caused by the controversial remarks, Martha Ankomah’s response demonstrates a deep understanding of the significance of forgiveness in both personal and professional settings.

“We are grateful to God for enabling Martha to extend forgiveness to Lilwin. She is a kind and God-fearing woman who believes in the power of mercy. As she puts it, she cannot refuse to forgive when her neighbor wrongs her, for the God she serves is merciful, and she strives to mirror that compassion in her own life,” She added.

Earlier this year, a video showed LilWin criticizing Martha Ankomah, accusing her of allegedly telling Kumawood director Frank Fiifi Gharbin that she would no longer collaborate with Kumawood stars due to their “nonsensical” movie productions.

Martha Ankomah-Lilwin case: New date for hearing set as out-of-court settlement fails

Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, is facing a defamation lawsuit worth GH¢5 million filed by actress Martha Ankomah, according to reports from Accra’s High Court.

Efforts to resolve the matter outside of court have been unsuccessful, leading the plaintiff’s legal team to push for the case to continue in court. Discussions around a possible settlement were held in July, which resulted in a temporary adjournment.

However, during a court session on October 15, 2024, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Nii Apatu Plange, explained,

, “We presented our proposals to the intermediary, but he later informed us that the defendant does not seem interested in reaching a settlement. Therefore, I can confirm that settlement efforts have failed.”

Justice Forson Agyapong Baah adjourned the case to 5 November 2024, noting, “In the circumstances, the case is adjourned to 5 November 2024, for hearing to begin at 8:30 a.m. Let hearing notices, along with today’s notes, be issued and served on the defendant.”

The plaintiff, Martha Ankomah, appeared in court, while the defendant, LilWin, and his legal team were notably absent.

The lawsuit arises from a viral video in which LilWin allegedly made derogatory remarks about Ankomah, damaging her reputation within the film industry. Ankomah asserts that his comments, including claims that she refused to collaborate with Kumawood actors, are defamatory.

In her statement, Ankomah describes herself as “a respected actress with over 20 years of experience, having starred in numerous film productions across both Ghana and Nigeria.”

I’ll play a “bad girl” role if the overall story has a positive impact – Martha Ankomah

Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah recently shared her thoughts on taking on “bad girl” roles in films.

Speaking in an August 13, 2024, interview with Adom TV, she revealed that she would embrace such roles if they contribute to a positive message in the overall storyline.

Ankomah drew a parallel between these roles and the portrayal of Judas in films about Jesus Christ.

Although Judas is typically seen as the antagonist, his actions are crucial to the narrative.

She emphasized that, similarly, playing a negative character could be justified if it ultimately serves to inspire or positively influence the audience.

“If a role has the power to impact someone’s life for the better, even if it involves being the ‘bad girl,’ I would take it on,” Ankomah explained. She also addressed possible criticism, asserting that her main focus is on the positive outcomes of her work, as acting is her profession and means of livelihood.

She concluded by saying, “This is what I do to earn a living, and if it can make a difference in someone’s life, then I’m willing to take on those challenging roles.”

Martha Ankomah, the acclaimed Ghanaian actress, expressed her deep passion for acting during a recent interview on Adom TV, which aired on August 13, 2024.

Reflecting on her successful career, Ankomah conveyed immense gratitude for the blessings that acting has brought into her life.

She revealed that if given the chance to live again, she would choose the same path, embracing the diverse roles and opportunities that acting offers.

“If God were to bring me back and ask what I’d like to be, I’d choose acting again,” she shared.

“Any job done with dedication, prayer, and positivity brings blessings and opens doors. I’m thankful to God for my talent as an actress.”

Ankomah also highlighted how her acting career has opened doors to numerous brand ambassadorial deals, which have provided her with various perks such as free clothing, hairstyling services, market discounts, and even free parking.

These benefits, she noted, are direct results of her work in the entertainment industry.

Martha Ankomah rose to fame after her participation in the 2007 reality show “Next Movie Star.”

Over the years, she has starred in numerous films, secured major endorsement deals, and become a respected figure in Ghana’s entertainment scene.

Known for her dedication to positive roles and her advocacy for youth literacy, Ankomah continues to inspire many.

  • I reject movie roles if the storylines don’t make sense – Martha Ankomah

I reject movie roles if the storylines don’t make sense – Martha Ankomah

Martha Ankomah has clarified that she holds no bias against movies produced in local languages, specifically addressing misconceptions that she dislikes the Kumawood film industry.

Speaking with Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, Ankomah explained that her absence from Kumawood films is not due to any aversion but rather the result of not being offered roles that meet her standards.

She emphasized that the decision to accept a role hinges on the quality of the script and storyline. “If I read the story and I don’t like it, I wouldn’t want to be part of it. Otherwise, why not, I’ll jump on it,” she noted, stressing that she is open to participating in Kumawood projects if the content resonates with her.

Ankomah also mentioned that she had previously worked on a film in Kumasi, the hub of Kumawood, under the direction of Sammy Rasta. This, she argued, demonstrates her willingness to engage with the industry, provided the project aligns with her criteria.

She further highlighted the importance of story quality over language or location, referencing the success of Nigerian films in Yoruba and Igbo on Netflix as examples of how compelling narratives transcend linguistic boundaries.

Ankomah reiterated that her refusal of roles is not exclusive to Kumawood but applies to any film local or international that does not challenge her or inspire positive change.

She pointed out that she recently turned down a Nigerian film for this reason, maintaining that she always prioritizes meaningful content.

Addressing previous comments from a 2017 interview with Hitz FM, Ankomah acknowledged her appreciation for certain Kumawood films, like the 2002 classic Kumasi Yonko, but expressed her discomfort with the recurring themes of fetishism and witchcraft in some productions.

Despite this, she made it clear that she does not reject Kumawood projects outright, citing a specific instance where she declined involvement in LilWin’s A Country Called Ghana for reasons unrelated to any bias against Kumawood.

Martha Ankomah, the movie star, clarified her stance on movies shot in local languages, addressing misconceptions that she dislikes the rural and Akan/Twi-led Kumawood movie scene in Kumasi.

Speaking to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, she explained that she has never appeared in a Kumawood movie because she has not been contracted for one, and emphasized the importance of the storyline and script quality in her decision to accept roles.

Ankomah recounted an experience where she traveled to Kumasi to work on a movie with director Sammy Rasta, underscoring that her participation in any project depends on the strength of the storyline.

She highlighted how platforms like Netflix collaborate with Nigerian filmmakers to produce movies in Yoruba and Igbo with subtitles, yet prioritize the storyline and production quality.

She clarified that her earlier comments about rejecting nonsensical roles were not directed specifically at Kumawood.

Ankomah mentioned that she adheres to a personal rule of only accepting roles that challenge her mentally, inspire positive change, and contribute to the country’s development.

She recently turned down a Nigerian movie role because the story did not meet her standards.

Ankomah also noted her admiration for certain Kumawood films, particularly mentioning “Kumasi Yonko” (2002) directed by Samuel Nyamkye.

However, she expressed her discomfort with the frequent portrayal of fetish practices and witchcraft in some Kumawood movies.

Despite this, she refuted claims that she declined a role in LilWin’s ‘A Country Called Ghana’.

“I love Kumawood movies but what I dislike about their movies is the fetish stuff they inculcate into them. Apart from that, I love their storylines and they used to have really good movies like Kumasi Yonko, but, of late, most of their movies portray witchcraft and that does not motivate me to shoot with them,” she said.

  • I’ve nothing against movies shot in local languages – Martha Ankomah

I’ve nothing against movies shot in local languages – Martha Ankomah

Martha Ankomah, the well-known actress, recently addressed misconceptions that she harbors negative feelings toward movies shot in local languages, particularly the Akan/Twi-led film industry known as Kumawood, based in Kumasi.

Speaking exclusively to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, Martha clarified that her absence from Kumawood films is not due to any bias but rather her selective approach to roles.

She emphasized that her decision to accept a role hinges primarily on the storyline and script quality.

“If I read the story and I don’t like it, I wouldn’t want to be part of it. Otherwise, why not, I’ll jump on it,” she stated, making it clear that she has no issue with Kumawood itself.

When asked if she had ever been offered a Kumawood role, Martha reiterated that the storyline is her top priority.

She recalled a project in Kumasi, where she worked with director Sammy Rasta, further illustrating that she is open to working within the Kumawood framework when the script aligns with her standards.

Martha also pointed out that successful international platforms like Netflix produce and feature local language films, such as those in Yoruba and Igbo, with subtitles, proving that language is not a barrier if the story is compelling and the production quality is high.

She highlighted that her cautious approach to selecting roles applies universally, whether for local or international films.

Citing an example, she mentioned recently turning down a Nigerian film because the script didn’t resonate with her.

In a 2017 interview with Hitz FM, Martha expressed her appreciation for Kumawood movies but voiced concerns about the prevalence of themes like fetishism and witchcraft in some of their productions.

She noted that while she admires the storytelling in classics like Kumasi Yonko (2002), she is dissuaded from participating in films that overly focus on such themes.

Additionally, Martha dispelled rumors that she declined to appear in Kumawood actor and producer LilWin’s project, A Country Called Ghana, reaffirming her commitment to roles that challenge and inspire positive change.

I never received a movie role from LilWin – Martha Ankomah

Actress Martha Ankomah clarified that she did not recently reject a role in LilWin’s movie ‘A Country Called Ghana‘. Instead, she explained that two years ago, director Frank Fiifi Gharbin approached her for a different project.

Speaking exclusively to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, she addressed the misunderstanding, stating, “It was not about their recent movie, A Country Called Ghana.”

Martha expressed frustration over the misconception that she had dismissed the offer disrespectfully.

She shared that Gharbin had pitched a movie centered around a couple, but she declined due to its storyline involving spirits, a theme that doesn’t interest her.

Despite this, she expressed a willingness to collaborate with Gharbin on other projects.

Unfamiliar with Gharbin and his association with Kumawood prior to their conversation, Martha revealed, “Were it not for this incident, I wouldn’t have known he was a Kumawood director.”

She noted that Gharbin’s narration of the story, rather than sending a script, and the casting choices did not indicate it was a Kumawood production.

Their conversation two years ago was their only interaction, Martha confirmed, adding that they had agreed to work together on a future project.

In early February 2024, Kumawood actor and filmmaker Kwadwo ‘LilWin’ Nkansah publicly criticized Martha, claiming she harbored a disdain for Kumawood.

He questioned her talent, popularity, and relevance as a brand ambassador for Ghana Textile Printers (GTP), suggesting her success was due to connections with influential men in Ghanaian society.

Martha responded by filing a GH¢5 million defamation lawsuit on February 14.

    The legal proceedings are ongoing.

The movie ‘A Country Called Ghana’ is produced by LilWin and directed by Frank Fiifi Gharbin.

Don’t accept LilWin’s apology, test the law – Sally Mann to Martha Ankomah

Media figure Sally Mann has advised actress Martha Ankomah to reject LilWin’s public apology amidst their ongoing legal battle.

LilWin and Ankomah are currently in court after she sued him for defamation, triggered by a video in which he insulted her for not participating in his film.

Recently, LilWin publicly apologized and asked her to drop the lawsuit so they could resolve the matter privately.

However, Sally Mann has urged Ankomah to proceed with the legal case.

She argued that pursuing justice through the court system is essential, especially given LilWin’s dismissive comment about anyone being able to go to court.

Mann emphasized that a court victory and a financial settlement could serve as a powerful deterrent to prevent similar behavior in the future.

Mann concluded by stressing the importance of the law in protecting individuals and advocated for an end to the demeaning stereotypes about women in the industry, insisting that their achievements should not be unfairly attributed to questionable behavior.

“I am not for the settlement; I want Martha to test the law. I will be highly disappointed if there is an out-of-court settlement. Keep your eye on the prize, GH₵5 million. It is the price that will serve as a deterrent to others,” Sally Mann stated.

She ended by saying, “The law is there to protect us,” and noted that it is high time men stopped attributing women’s success in the industry to sleeping around or prostitution.

I haven’t reached an out-of-court settlement with LilWin, ignore such false claims – Martha Ankomah

Martha Ankomah, a prominent Ghanaian actress, has refuted claims that fellow actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has sought an out-of-court settlement regarding her defamation lawsuit against him. This follows reports from GhOne News indicating that an Accra High Court had been informed of LilWin’s intention to settle the matter outside of court.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Entertainment on August 1, 2024, Ankomah denied these claims, stating that the case remains in court and neither LilWin nor his legal team has approached her directly for a settlement.

“It is not true, LilWin has never approached me for an out-of-court settlement. The case is still in court. He hasn’t even approached me personally; he has only sent people to come and talk to me,” she clarified.

Ankomah also confirmed that LilWin has been absent from all court proceedings since the case began.

However, she expressed her willingness to drop the lawsuit if LilWin issues a public apology for his remarks.

“If he does the right thing, why not? I am a Christian; I am ready to forgive. He came out to insult me publicly, so it is only fair that he comes back out to retract and apologize for his statements,” she said.

The lawsuit was initiated by Ankomah after LilWin made derogatory comments about her in a viral video, which she claims harmed her reputation and that of the textile brand GTP. Ankomah is seeking GH¢5 million in damages, both compensatory and aggravated, along with an apology, a retraction, and an injunction to prevent further defamatory statements.

The conflict began after Ankomah expressed her interest in collaborating with Kumawood actors due to their compelling storylines during an interview on Accra FM. LilWin responded with a series of insults in a video, which led to Ankomah’s defamation suit.

We’ve resolved our issues outside the courtroom – LilWin on legal battle with Martha Ankomah

Popular actor and musician LilWin revealed in an exclusive interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz that he and actress Martha Ankomah have resolved their legal dispute outside of the courtroom.

The conflict between the two arose earlier this year when Martha Ankomah filed a lawsuit against LilWin, alleging defamatory remarks made by the actor.

LilWin had previously accused Martha of holding a negative opinion of Kumawood actors and criticized her role as a GTP Ambassador.

During the interview, LilWin expressed surprise at the legal action taken by Martha Ankomah, citing his own experience in handling criticism without resorting to litigation.

Despite the initial discord, LilWin mentioned that he and Martha have reached an amicable resolution and even hinted at the possibility of collaborating with her in a future film project, alongside acclaimed actors Van Vicker and Majid Michel.

The resolution of this legal matter marks a positive turn in the relationship between LilWin and Martha Ankomah, highlighting the potential for collaboration and mutual understanding in the entertainment industry.
    About the suit

On February 15, 2024, Martha Ankomah, through her lawyers, sued LilWin.

In a copy of the writ of summons obtained by GhanaWeb, the plaintiff, Martha, petitioned the Accra High Court for damages totalling 5 million Ghana cedis due to defamatory statements made by the defendant, LilWin. Additionally, she sought compensatory damages to rectify the harm inflicted upon her reputation.

“A declaration that the words, ‘Who knows you? If not for GTP and senior government officials who signed you on at GTP, who would have signed you? What kind of star are you? Even your own daughter doesn’t know you. I don’t even know why GTP bypassed the likes of McBrown, Mercy Asiedu, and co and made Martha Ankomah their brand ambassador. If you had been a male actor, you would have suffered. When you become an actress, and you become a star, men take care of you; men rent accommodation for you; men buy you houses; men buy cars for you. You would have suffered as a man, but for the fact that you are female.

“‘It is men who look after you. You have become a star that is why men take care of your needs; you don’t use your money on anything’ published of and concerning the plaintiff and contained in paragraphs 8 and 9 of the Statement of Claim are defamatory of the plaintiff. Therefore, the plaintiff is seeking Damages in the sum of 5 million Ghana cedis for the defamatory statements made by the defendant. Compensatory damages for the damage done to the reputation of plaintiff,” parts of the summons read.

I was just acting – LilWin’s initial response to the lawsuit

During an appearance on Daybreak Hitz in late February, LilWin clarified that the controversial video, which caused considerable speculation, was actually a scene from an upcoming movie project he was involved in.

He emphasized that the snippet circulating online had been extracted from its original context.

“The video I did is a movie. I was acting… I was not angry. I had done some makeup,” he claimed.

Speaking at the inaugural Film Investment Breakfast Meeting organized by the National Film Authority (NFA), Ankomah emphasized the pressing need for support and collaboration within Ghana’s film industry to improve its accessibility and reach.

“When you go on Amazon and Netflix, there are Nigerian movies…But for us in Ghana, it’s difficult to get our movies there. I don’t know how they do it, but it would be great if the NFA could help us get our films on those platforms,” Martha Ankomah stated.

The event, attended by dignitaries, celebrities, and industry experts, showcased a collective effort to tackle challenges and explore opportunities within Ghana’s vibrant film landscape.

Insights from speakers including Juliet Asante, Danny Damah, Shirley Frimpong Manso, and Ivan Quashigah underscored the significance of strategic partnerships and investment in driving the sector’s growth.

Ghanaian veteran actor, Oboy Siki, has urged his embattled colleague, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, to consider apologising to Martha Ankomah to resolve their dispute instead of pursuing legal action.

Oboy Siki emphasised that LilWin has faced legal challenges before due to his remarks, indicating a need for him to learn from past experiences and seek an amicable resolution.

During an interview with Angle FM, Oboy Siki criticised LilWin for his statements and advised him to extend an apology to Martha Ankomah before the situation escalates further.

“He’s got into a similar issue before when he was sued and dealt with for messing around with a politician. Even though the case has gone to court, he should be fast and see the woman’s family and render an apology instead of facing her in court,” he advised.

Since LilWin posted a video of NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah saying “Any idiot can go to court” on his Instagram page after the news of him being sued became rife, the actor has received backlash for his conduct.

Do you call yourself a star? Who knows you? What do you have? – Lilwin fumes at Martha Ankoma

Kumawood actor LilWin has strongly criticized some of his colleagues who have disparaged his efforts, including Martha Ankomah.

The actor launched a blistering attack against Ankomah, specifically addressing some ‘disparaging’ comments she made about ‘Kumawood’ movies in recent years.

Martha, in earlier interviews with HitzFm in 2017 and later with Accra FM in 2023, downplayed the storylines of recent Kumawood movies, comparing them unfavorably to the Agya Koo era.

“I love their story lines and they used to have really good movies like Kumasi Y)nko), but of late, most of their movies portray witchcraft and that does not motivate me to shoot with them,” she stated in her interview with HitzFM.

However, the discussion about Martha Ankomah’s remarks arose while LilWin was criticizing Dr. Likee’s team, following the departure of one of his actresses to Akabenezer’s camp.

The actress in question, Mimi, has been giving interviews lately, taking shots at LilWin. In response, LilWin has been attacking anyone who has undermined his efforts, including Martha Ankomah.

“Martha, those who are richer than you are rather humble and respect themselves a lot. Do you honestly call yourself a star? Who knows you? What do you have?

“I don’t even know why GTP bypassed the likes of McBrown, Mercy Asiedu and co, and made Martha Ankomah their brand ambassador. The likes of Van Vicker, Roselyn Ngissah and co, do not do these things. They even work with us. They shoot Kumawood movies. I’m still amazed that you made such statements, were you drunk?

“I’ve rejected a lot of roles, because they make no sense – Martha Ankomah

Ghanaian actress, filmmaker, model, and entrepreneur, Martha Ankomah, has shared her criteria for choosing roles in movie casting. She passionately stated that she evaluates a movie based on its ability to condemn evil and promote goodness for personal growth and the betterment of the nation. If a movie does not align with these principles, she believes it holds little value and is not worth her time.

Martha Ankomah made these remarks during her guest appearance on Accra 100.5 FM on October 24, 2023. The discussion arose when host Akua Sonto inquired if Martha had turned down any potentially lucrative movie roles before venturing into producing her own films.

“I’ve rejected a lot of roles.

“Basically, I look at the storyline, the script. If I read the script and there’s no sense in it, I will not join the cast,” Ms Ankomah answered.

She explained: “There are movies which go about in circles and appear aimless. You find no sound advice in it. It’s not something the youth can learn productive things from. So any movie without a good moral lesson, I reject.”

Another example is a script which contains scenes like “a man who sleeps with women and kills them,” she cited. “What is the viewer taking aware from such a movie, how to kill multiple women?”

According to Martha, she recently rejected a role in a Nigerian movie.

“I was bold enough to tell the person who sent the script that the story doesn’t make sense. I was straightforward, and I have said that to many producers also,” she said.

Martha said this is why “nowadays, people don’t see me in a lot of movies. It’s because if the movie doesn’t make sense, I won’t show up for it”.

In Martha’s view, a good movie is not just relatable but does not encourage bad choices or promote unhealthy lifestyles.

“It is like soup which has all the ingredients that makes viewers exclaim: ‘Ah, this is a quality movie!’,” she said.

The Kiss Me If You Can star, loved for her talent and beauty, emphasised: “If it does not challenge you mentally, inspire positive change and cause development in the country, there’s no point being part of it. That’s my opinion.”

Chiming in, Peter Richie buttressed by pointing to Tyler Perry’s Acrimony as a movie “I watched five times because at every stage, I wanted to understand why this [or that] happened”.
