You need a strong, robust team – Kuami Eugene told after Lynx exit

UK-based showbiz expert, George Britton has suggested a strong, robust and well connected publicity team for Ghanaian highlife musician, Kuami Eugene.

He has expressed concerns over Rockstar’s visibility in the entertainment industry after parting ways with long-standing record label Lynx Entertainment after eight years of partnership. Britton believes the singer needs a solid team to maintain his influence in the industry.

“Kuami Eugene has been in the industry for a while. He knows what to do and has built relationships,” he said in an interview cited by MyNewsGh.com.

“But if he wants to work effectively, he needs to form a strong team—one with a good network and members who have key industry connections.”

Britton noted a decline in the singer’s promotional strategies, referencing the recent release of a song on his birthday.

“Back when he was with Lynx, we would have seen more updates about his release. At Lynx, there were people ensuring the public was always informed about what Kuami Eugene was doing. Now, I don’t know who is on his team or what they’re up to,” he told Amansan Krakye.

Highlighting the importance of visibility, he added, “If I don’t see Kuami Eugene posting about his new music on Instagram, and I don’t see anything elsewhere either, it shows just how crucial a good team is.”

Meanwhile, the publicity of his recent releases compared to when he was with Lynx Entertainment, there’s been a noticeable shift. While Lynx Entertainment provided a robust promotional machine that ensured his music reached a wide audience, his recent releases under his new label, Rockstar Records, have relied more on his personal social media presence and collaborations

Kuami Eugene released his latest single “Belinda” on September 13, 2024, after his exit from Lynx Entertainment. This song is his first release under his new label, Rockstar Records, in collaboration with Clear Road Music Group.

    Lynx Entertainment
label’s CEO, Richie Mensah, confirmed in January 2025 that Eugene has left the label. Kuami Eugene had been with Lynx for eight years before deciding to part ways and pursue his career independently under his new label, Rockstar Records.

  • They’re not cursed, It’s just tough – Richie on life of artistes who leave Lynx Entertainment

They’re not cursed, It’s just tough – Richie on life of artistes who leave Lynx Entertainment

Lynx Entertainment CEO, Richie Mensah, has dismissed claims within the creative arts industry that artistes who part ways with his record label struggle in their careers.

Speaking on Hitz FM, he clarified that Lynx Entertainment is not under a curse, attributing the challenges former signees face to insufficient investment and effort rather than any supernatural influence.

“The music business is hard. Lynx Group has over 60 employees, and it is even difficult. People see the result and think it is easy for us, but it takes a lot of brainstorming, work, and investment to keep us where we are. When an artiste leaves that setup and they are on their own, it is difficult. They are not cursed; it is difficult,” he said.

Richie Mensah added that there are artistes who have left Lynx Entertainment and have become successful in the creative arts industry.

“Artistes have left Lynx and they did well. But what happens is, it’s hard to maintain that level because if you initially had 60 people working on your project… when you leave and you don’t have the power to employ as many people, that is when the input and output drop drastically. Sometimes, we should also stop judging certain things by success,” he added.

Over the years, Lynx Entertainment has been home to several artistes, including Kuami Eugene, DopeNation, and MzVee, who have since moved on from the label.

At present, the record label has Kidi, DJ Vyrusky, and DSL signed under a 360 deal.

    Kuami Eugene replies DopeNation

Kuami Eugene has hit back at his former Lynx Entertainment labelmates, DopeNation, following their recent remarks about his exit from the label.

This come after a recent comment from the twins on X (formerlly Twitter) social media about Kuami Eugene’s departure from Lynx Entertainment, where they cheekily referred to the so-called “Lynx curse,” suggesting that artists who leave the label struggle to maintain their careers.

This was in response to comments Kuami Eugene made in an interview, where he expressed relief after DopeNation’s exit.

Kuami Eugene responded by dismissing their remarks, calling them clout-chasing antics and suggesting that DopeNation was seeking attention to promote another “gym song.”

He emphasized that he would be focusing on releasing a high-quality song for his birthday, tailored for quality music listeners.

He questioned their relevance in the music scene, labeling their songs as nothing more than workout anthems.

He assured fans that once the song is out, he would address the ongoing drama and engage with DopeNation if that’s what they are after.

The ongoing back-and-forth has divided fans, with some backing Kuami Eugene while others are calling for a resolution between the two artists.

All eyes are now on his upcoming release and how the feud might evolve.

At the end of the day, if we are close to the level where we feel like ‘okay Kuami is no longer with Lynx and he is done’, we will put it out for everyone to know,” he said.

He therefore intimated that he still works with the record label.

“What I am trying to say it that me and Lynx are still working. I just sent a song to Richie two days ago on a project he is working on and he needs me to do one or two things for him, so we are so cool, and if I happen to leave there, we will put it out,” he further noted.

Kuami Eugene has shared his grass-to-grace story in a recent interview while revealing that being frugal with his finances had helped him cater for the members of his extended family.

According to the 2020 VGMA Ariste of the Year, wearing designer clothes is not something he subscribes to because he channels those expenses to buy things for his family.

The singer who is one of the most sought artistes in Ghana and Africa, admitted that he was hurt when people made fun of him for his sense of fashion in a message he shared on Twitter Space with Sincerely Accra Podcast on November 17.

According to him, because he wanted to construct his mother a house and provide for his family, who he said were not wealthy, Kuami Eugene indicated that he had to set spending limits.

“When I came to Lynx Entertainment, trust me, I actually had nothing. My parents didn’t have money and you can’t compare me to some artiste I came with because they were living in their parent’s house. My mum, my dad, my siblings, and myself were living in a rented apartment. It wasn’t okay for all of us.

“The time everybody was talking about my shoes and dress, trust me, I was trying to put things together. The things these other artistes had to go to the boutique to put together, I had to go to Kantamanto… so you can’t compare the two of us. People will say these things without knowing my pocket,” Eugene disclosed.

The Lynx Entertainment signee, who recently released the song “Single,” talked out about the sacrifices he had to make in order to avoid being ridiculed for dressing in “cheap” clothes that weren’t appropriate for his status as one of Ghana’s top musicians.

He added that his aim was to change his family’s story and get them a better life and looking back today, there are no regrets as his mum is in a better state.

“The first thing I was thinking of was to find a good place for my mum to stay…I wasn’t thinking of what to wear but how to fix my mum’s life because the English I am speaking today is because she put me through good education. I had to find somewhere better for her to stay before thinking of putting on a Louis Vuitton or a nice t-shirt that will cost like GH200. It was too much for me back then,” said Kuami Eugene.

  • Guru’s 2021 tweet that predicted Kuami Eugene’s exit from Lynx Entertainment resurfaces

In 2021, rapper Guru and Highlife singer, Kuami Eugene, were caught up in a beef after it emerged that the latter had turned down his senior colleague’s collaboration request resulting.

The local industry witnessed Guru releasing “Who Born Dog”, a diss song targeted at Eugene.

In one of his tweets, the rapper made it clear to the Lynx Entertainment signee that his reign and the hype surrounding his brand was one day going to come to an end.

His tweet dated August 8, 2021, read: “I know that you will not be under Lynx Entertainment forever but remember not to have any issue with Lynx Entertainment because those that exited couldn’t maintain the hype. There are always new Lords so remember nothing last forever.”

The tweet has resurfaced after social media users posited that there might be bad blood between Eugene and his label, Lynx Entertainment.

Although the singer has not confirmed the rumours, others believe that his tweet that reads “I try saa say I go stay, buh chaley I for leff. Suro Nipa,” might have nothing to do with his label.

Until there is a confirmation, rumours of Kuami Eugene parting ways with the Ghanaian label owned by music producer, Richie Mensah continue to intensify.

Lynx Entertainment signee Kidi has cautioned the media not to ask him questions about his colleague Kuami Eugene anytime he avails himself for interviews.

Speaking in a one on one interview with Angel Fm’s Ohemaa Woyeje monitored by Blogger Attractive Mustapha, on his new EP titled 4Play, the interviewer asked a few questions about his label mate Kuami Eugene.

The “touch it” hitmaker answered a few and also rubbished Kuami Eugene’s statement about the fact that winning artiste of the year does not make one an overall champion.

Kidi’s reply to that statement was that it is Kuami Eugene’s opinion and everyone has their own perspective on issues.

“But whatever it is, since majority have decided that you are artiste of the year then no need digesting it“ he disagreed.

Ohemaa Woyeje attempted to find out from Kidi if Kuami Eugene is still with Lynx Entertainment. The musician responded that he has heard some rumours but he has no idea about Kuami Eugene’s contract at Lynx and whether he has left or not.

When Ohemaa Woyeje pushed further, Kidi cautioned that he does not want to be answering questions on Kuami Eugene when he is being interviewed.

  • ‘I still made it in life’ – Delay claps back at KiDi over illiterate tag

Ghana’s Highlife and Afrobeats singer KiDi has been in hot waters in the last 24 hours after Twitter users dug up old tweets including one where he described media personality, Deloris Frimpong Manso aka Delay as an ill start.

The 10-year-old tweet which reads: “I think Delay is an illiterate *shruggs*” has attracted a response from the victim who has schooled the famous singer.

Delay who interviewed KiDi in 2018 has explained that being tagged as an illiterate doesn’t stop one from achieving their goals in life.

“Illiteracy is not a crime. I guess the end justifies the means after all. I made it in life so that’s what matters!” she exclaimed.

Delay, an old Aburi Senior High School student, also obtained a degree from Methodist University College.

She is best known for her control over the Twi language and her ability to host top personalities in the country on her show.

Meanwhile, some have expressed concern over why netizens continue to dig up past tweets of KiDi when the singer apologised in 2020.

The Lynx Entertainment signee in a statement at the time rendered an unqualified apology to the general public and explained that his old tweets were made without considering the ‘negative impact’ on the victims.

“I’ve posted some things on social media when I was too young to understand how it would negatively affect those I talked about. But life has taught me to always appreciate people’s hustle, and never speak ill about someone else. Let’s take me as an example so we are more supportive of each other on social media.

“I apologise to those I offended with these actions from my past. I hope we can focus our energy on putting Ghana music on the map together. Love,” read KiDi‘s statement in 2020.

In an exclusive interview with Caleb Nii Boye on 3FM, Richie explained that although initially, Lynx Entertainment had a healthy and productive relationship with Asem, Lynx Entertainment had to end their contract with the rapper because he had the intentions of establishing his own record label.

Richie believes that this ambition by the rapper probably made him have divided attention.

Aside from Asem’s intention of starting his own record label, Richie revealed that, a financial misunderstanding between them and a rape allegation against the rapper hastened the end of their business journey.

He said, “I remember when the news was about to break, somebody called me from the newspaper that was about to break it and said, guys, I just saw this article; it is too late to do anything about it but I am letting you guys know so that you would know how to handle it when it gets out tomorrow and everything, so we said okay, cool. So, we were waiting for the paper to come so we know how to respond. So, when the paper came, what shocked us was they had already interviewed him about it and he hadn’t told us anything about it. In his response, he said that he was going to leave it for his new management to handle.”

Over the course of the year, the two parties, Lynx Entertainment, and MzVee have had time to reflect, peruse, and review the work done over the past years. We wish to announce that after 8 years of a very successful working relationship, Lynx Entertainment and MzVee are parting ways.

Lynx Entertainment is proud of the woman we have watched MzVee grow into as her brand has soared from strength to strength. It is important to state that the two parties have separated amicably and will continue to support each other. We would like to thank MzVee for her hard work and dedication throughout our epic journey together.

The Lynx family will continue to wish MzVee well as she heads into a new chapter of her life and will always support her in all her endeavors.

    Thank You

    LYNX AND MZVEE MUTUAL TERMINATION

The Last 8 years have been an amazing journey, and absolutely significant stride in the Discovery and evolution of my person and talent, none of which would have been possible without the extraordinary support of Lynx Entertainment which stood as my record label and family.

A little over a year ago I took a sabbatical leave from active music and there were a lot of rumors surrounding it. I had only taken a much-deserved break to reenergize, get in touch with self, and redefine my artistic expression in a way that allows me to give my best to my fans.

Lynx Entertainment will always be a strong pillar in my career and so it comes as no easy task to have to announce my departure from the label. Both parties have amicably consented with continuous support for each other to part ways moving forward.

These 8 years with Lynx Entertainment have been absolutely delightful and a blessing and I am glad we still hold our relationship regardless of our decision to part ways. I am eternally grateful. In this regard kindly note that.

All bookings and business inquiries should be thus communicated through my official channels, i.e my official business email, the new management number, and my social media handle. A heartfelt thank you to Richie Mensah, you will always be a big brother, to the entire Management and my label mates, you have been amazing and I couldn’t have wished for a better foundation and launchpad for my career.

    Thank You

The biggest news is that Kuami Eugene is set to call it a quit after four years with Richie Mensah’s label. Why would the Obiato hitmaker want to leave the label because his songs are well appreciated by Ghanaians home and abroad and some part of the Africa continent, he’s winning awards, he’s getting endorsement deals?

The multiple award-winning highlife and afrobeat musician wants to set up his own record label and manage artists just like his boss Richie. Already he’s the one writing songs for Vanessa Nyce. Kuami Eugene who was crowned King of Highlife Music during the last edition Ghana Music Awards by the legendary highlife musician wanted to leave the label in 2019 but some big names in the industry intervened.

Secondly, the singer’s incoming team of investors wants him to leave so he will do everything by himself with their support. Just like the then Mzvee and now Kidi, the singer doesn’t have his own Youtube Channel meaning when he spends the next 10 years with Lynx Entertainment before leaving just like the label did to Mzvee he wouldn’t have control over his works.
